      Mission said music is the master, technology is the slave. These days we forgot about this because we are blinded by expensive things we do not understand thinking oh well must be something behind it. And yeah there are some few notable exceptions. But overall is a marketing win win experience. And I highly recommend Steve Guttenberg's advices. Or this channel, that basically reminds us to trust our own ears not others.

    My first time and I think I can safely say that we all remember our first time. Really enjoyed the show and the fabulous presentation. Maybe the reason I enjoy John Darko and the Audiopheliac so much is they don’t take themselves tooooo seriously. Yet my strong impression is that you truly know what you’re talking about even though it’s often phrased as “I like this one better.” That’s what its all about, isn’t it? I want to enjoy the music and not feel that I have to be anally analytical about how vibrations get to my ears! So, count me as a fan, and someone who has been saving his dollars in hopes of better enjoying the music I like by buying a pair of RP-600Ms.

    Never heard the BR03 and Elac but Klipsch RP600M base performance and surprisingly well scalable. And what i mean by that is the better amp they get the better they are. It's one of the reason for people that want to improve their system with time to buy and keep those speakers.

    Slight correction on the bass and the back wall - bass is pretty much omnidirectional, and the only difference between front and rear - is the rear port gets closer to the back wall sooner.
    Placement closer to the back wall will boost the bass, because the omnidirectional bass doesn't have to fill the space behind anymore. When any speaker is placed out into the room it has to fill the whole "sphere" around it. And when you move it closer to the wall that "sphere" is truncated and the energy that the speaker puts out is increased by having to fill less space.

    During my listening career I have had quite a few speakers. I started with some acoustic energy 109s and then moved on to Heco Celans. Currently I have a pair of LS50s, a set of Quad 12l2s and a set of B&W 606S2s. I also auditioned a lot of high end speakers. Out of everything I have had the 606S2s are the best. Never have I heard instruments so lifelike. I know they are little more expensive than 600 but to anyone reading this if you have little more try the B&Ws before you decide.

Clean, clear sound, plays good even with the volume up a bit, good bass for a bookshelf (I would still recommend a sub) they look great (white) and I am very impressed by how heavy and solid the boxes are. I own the Polk t15 and the Elacs blow them away, as expected. I would recommend them if you don't mind the price.

      The other issue I have is that I live in Cambodia and stuff is next-to-impossible to get here and even harder to send back if necessary. I run a pair of Edifier s2000mkiii's and I am *super* happy with them -- I paid $300 but that's Cambodia prices; the US price is (I think) more like $550, but you get an amplifier stage and a surprisingly good DAC.

    It is interesting that no one comments on how these speakers sound for classical... how close to a concert hall. In the late 60s, 70s and 80s it was about not adding color-brightness or boomy bass. I had moved from KLH entry level to KLH 5s in 69, same speakers as George Szell, famed conductor of Clev Orch, still magnificent. Added Ohm C4s for a different location, still great concert sound, and Celestian DSL6 acoustic suspension in the 80s for my office which I have now moved into my home and considering replacing. Of course my 3 stereo receivers, which I have replaced as necessary (and 10 years ago my decision was based on weight, not merely specs - but quality capacitors protected by substantial heat sinks to keep initial specs constant - which is why Macs have lasted) have more at least 100 "continuous" (peak is different) watts per channel with great specs years ago... probably off by now but still fine. So after much thought have decided to keep my Celestians which due to the quality of sound produced by acoustic suspension speaker, which are more expensive to manufacture, so the Theil approach with multiple speakers and sub woofers has taken over. But with vinyl back decided to get a new turntable, my dual stopped a decade ago and I can make audiophile quality CDs on my denon recorder player. My point is that I assume the 3 speakers will sound good, but compared to an acoustic suspension SL6 depends on the form of music and placement... and the reviews are dependent on ears not necessarily experienced in listening to a world class orchestra playing Brahms, Bach and Beethoven in a great hall. I do appreciate the humor and lack of self-importance of this reviewer! However, there is a massive distinction between playing jazz, Jagger, or R & B and the great symphonies - also all the graphs do not measure the subjective nature of how close any speaker reproduces accurate concert hall sound. Klipsch years ago made massive and truly remarkable speakers, so wonder how these bookshelves do on classical.

    • @zenphony
      @zenphony 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      💯 I like this guy but with every reviewer there is a subjectivity scale in multiple categories. I always take CAM’s thoughts with a high subjectivity to rock. The triangles I have heard are more impressive with classical and jazz.

    Another great review but I've noticed some in your audience are concerned about rising cost on the speakers you are reviewing feeling like you may be stepping slightly beyond the "cheap". For me what would be important is knowing if the $400 + speakers are 2 or 3 times as good as the $100-$200 speakers. You know for me I would pay $300 for a pair of speakers that sound as good or better than speakers costing 2,3,4 or several times more money. The JBL L1's definitely do that for me. Did you ever watch Thomas@Stereo review of the elac debut 6.2. He was very impressed comparing them to speakers costing much much more. STICK WITH BANG FOR BUCK in you reviewing, I know many will appreciate that....and thanks a lot for listening to your audience and making appropriate adjustments. I really do like the new treble intro much better than your previous one. Thanks for that.

    • @cheapaudioman
      @cheapaudioman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This price level is really about my ceiling. And to your point, I do believe that these are 3-4X better than the 100ish speakers. For me, this is the level where the law of diminishing returns truly kicks in. Are they twice as good as some of the sub $300 speakers... kind of. There is just so much more air that can be displaced with the larger drivers. I'm doing a sub $300 6.5" woofer category next week and that is probably going to be the sweet spot for most people as you get maybe 70% of these at around half the cost. I think this level of speaker can truly be a final destination speaker for most. I know it is for me unless a company sends me a $1000 speaker and I can truly say that it's twice the speaker as this category.

After several unsuccessful listening tests wondered if you have taken a retro speaker and explained the modern differences with something comparable. For example, I have a pair of Gale GS210 that are going strong but can't help I am stuck in my ways and am missing a trick!

    you didn't enjoy the BRO3 the first tie you listened...or the second time, so how come they're on this 'best speaker' shootout? you basically disagreed with almost every plus other reviewers have commended these for. I'm probably forgetting something from the day before (this vid was posted Dec 12th, the BRO3 review on the 11th), so I'm looking forward to being enlightened or the rationale to put up something you didn't care for. ;)

      I auditioned the original Elac b6's there and didn't end up getting them til later. The magnolia listening room isn't an ideal place to listen to speakers. All the bookshelves are well... on bookshelves and all the same distance and all hooked up to receivers. The Elacs b6's don't have the top end sparkle as more consumer oriented speakers so they often sound less desirable compared to others in a situation like that but they're phenomenal after someone spends some time with them.

    Coincidently, Sean at "Zero Fidelity" did a video to compare these same three speakers. He describes their sound characteristics differently. I suppose the differences can be caused by room acoustics, break-in period, and equipment matching among other things. How long do you typically break-in equipment before evaluations take place? Do you evaluate them with a variety of different amplifiers? It would be nice to hear you talk about your opinions on which affordable amplifiers match-up best with which speakers.

    • @cheapaudioman
      @cheapaudioman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Bro's were broken in for 50 plus hours. And frankly, if I need to run a speaker for 100 hours to break in then it's not the speaker for me. Amps I used on this were the Emotiva TA-100 and the Anthem Integrated 225. The Elacs and 600M's I've had for 6 months or so and they're very well broken in. Sean is way smarter than I am and comes from the industry so I'm sure his take is much more valuable. My experience with the speakers and I've lived and enjoyed the 600's and the Elacs for months before I ever even thought about starting this channel. I don't think the Bro's have the top end of the Elacs let alone the Klispch. They don't have the midrange or the top end clarity to my ears and for me is the least desirable speaker of the three. Not saying that some won't love them, simply relaying what I heard. Unless one is really into a "laid back" and veiled speaker then the bros need a very analytical amplifier and even when I hooked them up to the Anthem, I didn't notice them getting any better. I'd love to get some more affordable NAD amps in to see how they do.
      And I considered that maybe the room was affecting the sound accept the Bros were in the same position as the others. I try to eliminate as many variables as possible so I can just listen and then relay what I heard. I'm unsure of whether or not Sean actually A/B/C'd these speakers or just kind of shared his thoughts on them from memory. I can... maybe see that if someone just commented about them from memory coming up to the same conclusions as he did but I just don't see how someone could say the Elacs are more laid back than the Bros if they're actually A/Bing them.

    I'd be curious to know what equipment you used in your testing of these speakers it would help folks make a better decision or understanding if their outcomes will match your evaluation equipment. Did you try them with a class D amp or any other than the TA 100 ?
    I have the Triangle and the Klipsch in my home and what I've found is my Klipsch are incredible with my A/B amp and the the Bro3 is incredible on my class D amp reverse them and the Klipsch is bright and the Bro3 lacks detail.
    You can't lose with any of these but they need to be amp paired correctly for the sound you prefer.

    In 2003 I got divorced and one of many issues was my stereo. Not having a lot of disposable income I set out to put together a kick ass system I saw a pair of Infinity interlude IL50 speakers reviews mostly favorable( owner reviews) and pro reviews for IL10s put the system together for$750. Had a Rotel pre-amp processor, bought a used Carver Av705x, $450 it's a beast. Think I did pretty good. Wouldn't trade the speakers, only had to repair one of the sub amps last year 16 1/2 years not too bad. Like your reviews, a regular guy who loves good sound. Sorry about being long winded.
