  • We’re reviewing the weekender plus from Bellroy. This is best suited for those who enjoy lots of organization, are primarily road traveling, and on the taller side. It comes with excellent and premium materials and awesome build quality.

      Thank you, I appreciate that! My aim is to do reviews that I would like to see if I was interested in a bag; so your words are very encouraging.

    I don’t think you’re being nit-picky at all. These bags are expensive and should be “easy” to use. I’m a short guy as well, 5’-6”, so I’m glad I never purchased this one. If my bag was dragging on the ground while I was holding it from the hand straps, I’d be upset. I love Bellroy, but find it tough to try out their products due to the cost.
    Thanks for the thorough, honest review. Well done.

    Very nice and informative video for Weekender Plus. Thank you, because of your previous video of Transit Backpack Plus in Marine Blue, I've purchased it while it's on sale in my country.

      I am glad I was able to provide some help in your decision making process! Hopefully you’ll enjoy the Transit backpack as much as I do. And in marine blue? Fantastic!

      Yes it's in marine blue. Already used it few times and I love it! Easy to clean and hold so many gear inside neatly.

    Great review; there’s so many channels that have only positive comments on this. I have a Bellroy tote for my cafe study sesh/office edc, and the organization for Bellroy products seem to be great for small bags. I’ll probably do a bit more research before I replace my old nike duffel.

      Thank you! Unfortunately, I don’t think they make this one anymore. Not in this iteration, they only have the premium on sale. They do now offer a “Classic Weekender” that I feel is a better offering. If I sold this one, I’d get the classic without hesitating.

    The inner zippered pocket that you "had no use for" is the actual laptop compartment. Maybe that's why you found the external compartment unusable

    Which one will you recommend? Weekender plus or transit backpack plus?(l like the way how you can pack the weekender plus but that will too uncomfortable when travel by the plane)

    • @ofthetraveler
      @ofthetraveler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a tough one since they serve different use cases. Weekender is awesome for land-based travel, but the Transit shines in air travel. It would really depend on what you want it for. But if I had to choose just ONE, I feel the Transit Plus would have a lot more utility. I’d never ever ever take the Weekender for air travel, whereas the Transit can be used for virtually any travel situation if you can fit everything within the capacity. Hope that helps!

    I bought this and within 90 minutes of use the main compartment leather attachment to the zipper came loose. There is an inherent defect in the zip - which leaves a gap, that gets exaggerated easily. Bellroy suggested I fix it with pliers! Poor quality. Shame for what should be a great product.

    • @ofthetraveler
      @ofthetraveler  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@docm6310 Sorry to hear that. The weekender has since been discontinued. The classic weekender is what they’re offering now, I haven’t used it yet, but I think it responds to a lot of the issues I had with this particular bag.

    @samsam95 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi! Belroy recently released a new version of the bag! Do you have any plans on comparing the 2?
    also do you think this bag could get through airline carry on specifications? I know the technical measurements are pass the allowable dimensions for carry on but the bag seems compressible enough to slip through ahaha
    Thank you for your video I really appreciate this!

    • @ofthetraveler
      @ofthetraveler  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hey there! Yeah, Bellroy released the Classic Weekender, which, honestly, I think fixes the issues I had with the Weekender Plus - it seems like the perfect travel duffel. They’re two different bags. The classic is a bit wider and not as tall.
      I’ve travel with the weekender as a carry on without issue. It’s 45L which is technically more than the 40L most airlines allow, but the Weekender Plus has so much wasted space that can compress down, as you said, that it’s never been an issue.
      If I can sell my Weekender Plus, I’d get the Classic, for sure. Just by looking at the photos and how it works, I think the Classic is a better bag.
      I sincerely appreciate your kind words, this channel is a labor of love and it’s worth it when I hear that it can provide some value to those looking to spend hard-earned money on a bag.

    Sounds like this isn't the bag for you. All of the "negatives" you cite are reasons why I love it and what set it apart from every other duffel. As you said, it's designed for vertical orientation. That keeps it slim against the body and doesn't force me to lean sideways to offset the awkward weight. I could never do one bag travel with other duffels bc they never had sufficient organization I could trust for my tech. This does. And btw, packing sideways is probably why you felt the front pocket was too tight to get into. And the long straps make it easy for me to carry this over my shoulder. If they were shorter they would be awkward to lever my elbow through. It honestly sounds like this bag was designed to optimize in one direction and you kept trying to make it do something else. I loved this design so much I have both the weekender and weekender plus and years later they are still my go to for short trips.
    Edit: RE: the zippers. They extend past the opening to allow for more visibility into the corners. If the zippers stopped right at the ends of the bag the opening would be smaller bc of the taper. They also tethered it to the side attachment points to make handles for if you are trying to grab it out of an overhead bin or car trunk.

      Thanks for the feedback and your thoughts, since this review I’ve used this bag for at least a dozen more trips. I’ve come to terms with its nuances and I haven’t really looked around for another duffel - it’s fine. Still, this is far from a perfect bag, so much that Bellroy discontinued this design after a relatively short amount of time. In fact, their Classic Weekender, that replaced this bag, corrects a lot of the perceived issues I had with this one. It *looks* like a better product, but since I already have this Weekender, I haven’t spent the money to try it. I may do so.
      Also there’s the Venture Duffel that looks pretty cool too, although not as premium as the Weekender Plus.
      Thanks again for your thoughts, I appreciate it.

      @@ThexImperfectionist that’s interesting, on the Bellroy website, the only Weekender available is the Premium Edition, the rest are Classic Weekender or Venture Duffels.

    The first issue is this guy was not packing for a simple weekend. He was over packing and then complaining that the bag was over stuffed seems he needed two bags.

    • @ofthetraveler
      @ofthetraveler  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Who are you to say what a simple weekend looks like? It’s 45L irrelevant of purpose. The load out on the video could have been a weekend for two people. Other reviewers have taken this bag on extended trips. I wasn’t complaining that it was overstuffed, I complained that the packing orientation isn’t ideal. But good job being condescending for no reason.

    I‘m considering the apex backpack and the weekender plus…Do you have some suggestions?

    • @ofthetraveler
      @ofthetraveler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Apex is one of my favorite bags, I also did a review of it on this channel. A word of warning, though, despite a difference in color, the Onyx and Raven are slightly different in hand feel. Onyx is a bit harder and patinas, but is very abrasion and water resistance. Raven is a little softer, does not patina but is slightly less abrasion resistance.
      The Apex and the Weekender together is a KILLER combo!

    • @ofthetraveler
      @ofthetraveler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@shutyourmouthup6928 I don’t have the Raven, I couldn’t justify it. When the Raven was first being released, Bellroy did a web stream with the designers to talk about the differences. Also some of my carry-buddies have the Raven and confirmed it’s softer. You can’t go wrong either way.

    • @ofthetraveler
      @ofthetraveler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am a big fan of Baida Nylon, it’s incredibly water resistant as well as abrasion resistant. It just plain looks nice. In the review, I mentioned a couple of scuffs, but they’re not big and I’ve legit travelled a few thousand miles with this bag.
