I'm afraid most of your sub-genres are incorrect. Many tracks mentioned here are just Pop, Disco, Italo or simply just Trance. It is possible that you are presenting this from a USA point of view, which is completely incorrect. Even though the genre originates from Detroit, most sub-genres originate from Europe. That is why in Europe genres are more focused on the specific musical elements than overal vibe. Like the fact that Tech House has Swing, Hard Techno is fast and over modulated and Trance Techno (Melodic Techno) is just Trance with a typical Tech drive instead of the normal basic disco drive. And finally you seem to have missed one of the most important sub-genre of Techno ever......TRIBAL-TECH and TRIBAL-TECH TRANS. Also called TT or just TTT, which basically accounts for at least 65% of all modern techno tracks.
I agree with what you said : some of his titles sound like House (his Detroit choices) or disco (his tech-house examples) ... Rest of his playlist is very good .. With the regret of the absence of PsyTrance ... (Aahhhhh ... Astral Projection Kaballah !) + he is 100% right to diss Electronica .. This said, for those of us not knowing about TRIBAL-TECH and TRIBAL-TECH TRANS could you please direct us to some of the jewels of this genre ?
Dude, nice vid! Solid editing and you nailed the audio balance, which is really important but often overlooked! Keep up the good work! When I think of techno, industrial techno plays in my head. Some of the tracks are bad examples, I know its not easy to explain it all correctly, but Acid-Techno for me its like DJ MIsjah, Germany: "Man, Woman, Love," or Emmanuel Top-Tracks, then, there is also Acid-Trance like Nostrum-Tracks for example, too...and Gamma Loop, or simply called Acid-Warrior's-Acid...and Acid-House...... Acid-House, Acid-Trance and Acid-Techno are all subgenres... even Acid-Jazz exist! For me, in the beginning was HOUSE, from Chicago, started in 1985,86.. It was like a big tree with many branches. All genres growing out of this tree...and the thickest branch of all was the Techno branch.... Acid/ Electro/ Techno/Trance/ and other electronic genres like Drumn Bass, Jungle, Breakbeat, Breakdance was in the 80's in the hip hop-scene... Don' t forget Chill-Out and Ambient. All European countries had their own scene... Drumn Bass was very populated in the UK, the Belgians had their New Wave, Electric Boogie early scene in the 80's.. There was a sound of Berlin, of Frankfurt, for example, and of Detroit... Watch, the interview of the famous DJ Sven Väth, , he gives us a small overview over the electronic scene and their beginnings...Musical pioneers. in germany were the Electronic Group " Kraftwerk" or "Tangerine Dream"...you can see it wasn't house alone, in Germany we had our roots, also... And one word to MINIMAL.. Minimal alone don't stand for genre, Its a definition for a soundproperty, many young kids who listen to nowadays techno, don't understand this..There is Minimal-Techno of course..but Minimal don't stand for itself..its a definition of a sound... and SCHRANZ is a fashion-word😊, its no style..Chris Liebing used this word one day, because the techno in his club was so heavy and crashing...its Techno !!

Contrary to many other commenters here, this video gives a pretty good breakdown of some of the Techno genres. I first heard Techno music after arriving in Goa in early Dec. 1991 after spending the previous five and half months traveling all around India with my girflriend of the time, Sandra Grulli. (Including our 1 month in Goa, we spent 6 and half months riding 16,000 kms on an LML Vespa, plus train hops, through the National Capital Territory(Delhi), Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujurat, Madyha Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Goa. The techno parties in Goa in Dec. 1991 were superb. From 1992 to 1997 I organised some great house and warehouse techno parties in Melbourne, Australia with 100 to 1200 guests. We attended the very first Earthcore Party that was held in early 1992 in Toolangi State Forest. There were only 150 people there. It was organised by Spiros Boursinos (R.I.P.) and Pip Darvall. Anyway, my favourite tracks from the list on this video are: (1) "Children" by Robert Miles (2) "The Acid" (T78 Remix) by "A*S*Y*S. BTW, you don't need to be on drugs to enjoy Techno music. The last time I had recreational drugs of any kind was in 1999. 😎 Adam Neira Founder of World Peace 2050 Founded April 2000 Paris - Jerusalem - Melbourne

for all who are interessed in hardcore techno: if you are into gabba, thunderdome is the best way to find out. speedcore and doomcore: terrordrome VI and VII is a great way to start - with tracks up to 340 bpm and the iconic hölle mix from nordcore
I've only been getting into techno relatively recently which youtube has helped a lot with. So far my favourite sub genres comprise of mixes of acid, hard, industrial, dark, house and trance. I gradually drifted towards techno from my love of acid jazz, lo fi hip hop, synthwave, edm, house, melodic rock, pop rock, grunge and metal. Quite a mix huh but I think techno incorporates essences of all those genres and gives it such energy or chill vibes, that's what draws me to it! I also love 70s, 80s pop/motown and 90s ballads 😂
Thank you for your nice comment and I appreciate your attitude. I understand your point, and I will do my best it he future videos. I hope I'll do better. I've learned from my mistakes.
the thing is. most of the examples are from the last decade and that's already a crossover blend with multiple genres. And back in the days "Innercity - Big fun" was a commercial house tune and no way accepted as a Detroit techno tune. its only produced by Derick May under a different alias. And the Acid techno examples are Peaktime techno blends from a couple of years ago. Huge kicks, rumble bass and a 303 on top. the real acid techno is more like tunes: Stacker- humanoid, Josh Wink - higher state of consciousness. and have a more trippy vibe. and so on with the rest of the genres. nowadays its just a big blend of styles. but u can recognize them by listening tunes in those subgenres between 1989 till 2000

So you got TRANCE TECHNO (Wth is that even?) but you don't have HARDCORE TECHNO (aka Hardcore/Gabber). You don't have Schranz Techno, you don't have Swedish Techno. Cybotron - Cosmic Cars is definitely Electro (also called Electopop sometimes) and not techno, just compare it to Kraftwerk, Anthony Rother, Egyptian Lover etc... The minimal Techno examples could've been way better than using Ritchie Hawtin's music which is early 90's, more like Detroit era. The Swedish sound for some reason ended up in Industrial Techno which is not true at all. And don't even get me started about the acid part...
Hold your horses Bro....... You cant make a ten minute video with all subgenres and with 3 examples of TRAXs Just make a video of your definition of Techno Im not expert of Techno(im listening from 1991-my first experience was Techno Trax compilation) ,but this video wasnt so bad SUN in SOUL Man

There are really only a few bits correct here, and a significant chunk of it is just BLEURGH!! I mean, just for starters: - All the tracks you put in "Trance Techno" are simply "Trance". Full stop. - Todd Terje 'Inspector Norse' is tech-house?! Fucking LOL. There's nothing "tech" about it whatsoever. The disco sounds are inescapable. It's something like disco house. - Your other "tech house" examples just seem like EDM. Have you never heard any actual tech house before (as in music which is techier house) eg artists such as Mr. G, Tyrant (Craig Richards & Lee Burridge); Layo & Bushwacka; even Claude VonStroke?! - Octave One 'Blackwater' is "minimal"?!?!?! Erm, it has quite a bit of instrumentation, as well as vocals with verses and a chorus. Nothing minimal about that. - It's highly disputable whether 'Acid Techno' is even a genre worthy of the name, as demonstrated by the Doruksen track in the 'Hard Techno' section and the Ghost in the Machine track in the industrial section having acid lines and sounding pretty similar to your "Acid Techno" examples.. If any techno track with an acid line is supposedly 'Acid Techno' then you're going to have to throw a lot of the tracks in to that imaginary bucket! - Cybotron 'Cosmic Cars' is more electro than techno. - This one is a bit contentious but imo Inner City 'Good Life' is more house music that just happened to be made in Detroit. The biggest surprise in this vid is that after all that you somehow didn't completely screw up the 'Industrial Techno' section. Plus, your descriptions for each of the above are mostly shitty ethereal meaningless word salad. Aside from all that, good work ;)

I might be one of few here but i think IDM also falls into techno despite its obvious dnb and jungle influences. I believe that Aphex Twin and Squarepusher should have a place in Techno history as well, they were pioneers of their time.

Lucky enough to be introduced into the scene in 1990, I have some news for you.... - you left out Belgian techno, Sheffield techno, tribal techno, the debatable "melodic techno", and a whole lot more. - Cybotron is classified as electro, not techno - Octave One: BlackWater is NOT minimal techno (Pig & Dan - Micro Kitchen is an actual example of minimal techno and a kick ass track to boot.... th-cam.com/video/iIrB0tIeUwY/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=Marvelous12627 - Tech house.....is a sub genre of house, not techno ffs, get a clue - Todd Terje: Inspector Norse is not tech house (look it up on Discogs fer F's sake) - there's no such genre as "trance techno" lmao. Robert Miles - Children CAN be classified as "Dream Trance" and OH MY GOD you think Saltwater by Chicane is "TECHNO"?!?!? It's trance you $%^&*# ......just trance, nothing more nothing less. - AND SO you actually did miss out on another genre (tho it's really a trance subgenre)..."Tech-trance". Here's an example by Classified Project - awesome stuff.... th-cam.com/video/JrkkyGssGPI/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=RevivalDanceHits PS. Not all techno originated in Detroit. Belgian Techno grew out New Beat and EBM...different sounds, vibe, feel. A little bit later, but still, its own thing, not derivative of Detroit.

No, it should be Spicelab - Feathers (Terry Lee Brown Jr. Remix) or (Humates Flying High Mix), but what can we do...
Better title suggestion: Techno for amateurs, by amateurs.
As if AI tried to confine a couple of decades of the genre and distill it into a handful of contemporary and classic names and titles in passing only
9:12 and on - total disaster; as a fan of tech trance that... collection has almost choked me, but I put like for the effort.

Jungle techno.

missing out Dark Techno. It's somewhat similar to industrial techno, but it has some more hardcore elements in it. Check out the likes of [KRTM], Tripped, Synaptic Memories and Tymon for some examples (their catalogues also include industrial hardcore, so don't be too surprised if the first release you come across from one of them ends up being hardcore).
I can recommend Dope Amine when it comes to Dark Techno. He is releasing 4-5 mixes each year here on YT.
dark techno isnt a genre. its a way to describe the sound character just as „driving“ techno

He made it with ChatGPT. You spent more time writing the comment than he making the video.

As a guy who mainly went clubbing between 2003 and 2008 I'd say you screwed up the minimal techno part. Plastikman may be one of the early producers (check out Sistol for another real oldskool super minimalstic sound), but the stuff that came out in the period I mentioned lifted the bar substantially in terms of producing quality and groove.

Yeah, but examples are not so genre-defined really…
Robert Miles - Children - it's Dream House!
Chicane - Saltwater - it's Progressive Trance!
Eric Pridz - Midnight city - Progressive House!
dream trance*
No no no, that's all the same genre: cheesy pop edm
Edit: replace 🤮 by 😴
Robert Miles is pure trance. Where do you hear house?!? No way!
Oh no please not "Children" by Robert Miles!! History of trance. I agree for Eric Prydz, some edm electronic cheese. The third tune is trance, also a bit cheesy, but beautiful.
Saltwater is actually beautiful, yet still a 'petit fromage'. Children in comparison is a big fat lump of stinky cheese 😂
But for real: discussing matters of taste is fun, but there is no accounting for it. Love music, and cheese.
Oh,cmon, Basic Channel - Phylyps trak is not a dub-techno at all. Though very happy it is in this video; same with Octave one - Pure detroit techno, not the minimal

@@sarvoshaktivan what?🤣
What an Awesome Overview!
You don't know much about techno I'm guessing. This was useless and incorrect.
Legend. My favorite is trance techno. Thanks a lot!
more tracks like inspector Norse?
Tensnake - Coma Cat prob the closest
I don't know which generation's interpretation this video is but these are not "main subgenres of techno"...
What do you mean? WHat are then?
i have NEVER thought of todd terje's inspector norse as a "tech house" track and honestly, you didn't convince me one bit, bringing the legitimacy of your whole case into question.

The last time I had recreational drugs of any kind was in 1999.

what abut Drak techno, EBM artis like Ancient Methods, Perc, Orphx, Makaton, AdamX, Phase Fatale.NX1, Ontal .
good selection but would consider them just "techno", some closer to "industrial" - as there is no "bright" techno, what should "dark" techno be?
for all who are interessed in hardcore techno: if you are into gabba, thunderdome is the best way to find out.
speedcore and doomcore: terrordrome VI and VII is a great way to start - with tracks up to 340 bpm and the iconic hölle mix from nordcore
this is like 50% acid
ok

@@Loroths Thanks so much for your support man. I appreciate it.
the thing is. most of the examples are from the last decade and that's already a crossover blend with multiple genres. And back in the days "Innercity - Big fun" was a commercial house tune and no way accepted as a Detroit techno tune. its only produced by Derick May under a different alias. And the Acid techno examples are Peaktime techno blends from a couple of years ago. Huge kicks, rumble bass and a 303 on top. the real acid techno is more like tunes: Stacker- humanoid, Josh Wink - higher state of consciousness. and have a more trippy vibe. and so on with the rest of the genres. nowadays its just a big blend of styles. but u can recognize them by listening tunes in those subgenres between 1989 till 2000
is tech house really a part of techno ? thought it belongs to house ? and maddix is more like peaktime techno pared with acid sounds ?

Oh awesome! You're most welcome!
There are really only a few bits correct here, and a significant chunk of it is just BLEURGH!! I mean, just for starters:
- All the tracks you put in "Trance Techno" are simply "Trance".
