  • First step - saves me 1 coat of primer! Sanding before primer with 320 grit sandpaper - until it becomes a bit gloss and very smooth ( some call it polishing raw mdf)
    But
    Here's my go to system for painting MDF door:
    1) sand
    2) prime 1st coat
    3) sand
    4) prime 2nd coat
    5) light sand
    6) two coats wet on wet
    All 2k polyurethane system ( either water or solvent based polyurethane)

    Not only is it a coat and time saver sanding well prior to primer, it sometimes is quite a headache to sand back down smooth AFTER primer. Once you saturate some MDF panels and the fibers raise, it becomes extremely rough, and sanding it back down can sometimes take twice as long. Thanks for sharing this advice 🙏🏻

    Thanks for helpful tips. I'm about to try my hand at making some doors this weekend. I had no idea where to start with the finishing process until I came across your video. Those are some pricey sanders you're using, but I"m sure well worth the money. Cheers!

      @KonstantinUdalov  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Michael. It doesn’t have to be these exact same sanders. Any affordable substitute would do the same job.
      The reason we have these is cuz we use it pretty aggressively every single day. And obviously they need to be reliable

    Thank you for your videos. I follow them to a tee. The only problem i am having is that when I use the 1.25 pocketing bit it leaves ridges where it passes over. Also my 45 degree bit at the corners is not nice and clean. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you
    ps we re surfaced the cnc bed so its not that.

      Sorry brother this issue is a bit too complex for a quick solution. It could be a loft of different things - and I heard that bigger companies run into it at times . Sorry couldn’t help much 🙌

    What mdf is that? When I get my shaker doors from perfectli flat mdf sheet, they all got warped. Is it possible to fix it?

    Thanks for this video, Can you explain what wet on wet means? does it mean yo ucan spray a second topcoat over the first topcoat without sanding? How does that work? would it affect adhesion if you dont sand?

    • @KonstantinUdalov
      @KonstantinUdalov  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Aaron. Yes that’s exactly what it means.
      With polyurethanes you can do wet on wet. Second coat melts into the first one. You usually have a window up to -2 hours .

    hey nice video man it helps a lot i just have a question When your mdf has a lot of pores and you sand it and you still can see a lot of them what do yo do to cover them to leave it nice and smooth?

    • @KonstantinUdalov
      @KonstantinUdalov  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Alex - that means you use wrong mdf. The proper mdf is called platinum (highest quality mdf with very consistent core density ) - it has almost no pores.
      But to help you get out of a tough situation if you’re already in it. Fill in the pores with white filler and when dry sand flat. Prime . Top coat.

    Константин здравствуйте ещё раз, будьте добры подскажите пожалуйста, какой номер наждачной бумаги лучше всего для затирания внутренних дверей перед нанесением pre vanish. И ещё какой цвет varnish вы посоветуете чтобы не получился оттенок красного. И вообще что лучше для деревянных pine дверей stain or varnish. Спасибо огромное

    • @KonstantinUdalov
      @KonstantinUdalov  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ухо сколько вопросов. 😊 я советую использовать 2х компонентный полеуретан. Не варниш он токсичен. Грунт полеуретановый - белый. Верхний слой один. Достаточной толщины и один слой будет достаточно. Наждак - зависит от типа материала. Мдф новый - 320. Старое дерево лакированное - в основном 180

      @@markhorton9020 We use solvent based 2 k poly primer - so we don't really have an issue - but we are moving to a infra red catalytic drying system so the wb primer would be no problem . Thin coat - dry/cure in 30 min , quick sand through our automated sander and ready for full thick coat of 2k primer - no grain raise.
