Hmm, I tried that before and I could not get the corners level with the middle that was sanded by the orbital. Granted that was a refinish and not new mdf. Would a light pass with the orbital be best to be able to blend the corners? Last refinish I did I just sanded the entire center panel by hand and it came out well but it was a lot of work
Pete Rose if you are doing this professionally but a 3x4. It is going to make you money. Stefan has air advantage sanders that are a bit cheaper than surfprep.

For those of us that don’t have a 3x4 sander what is the most effective way to sand mdf by hand?
I would a random orbit for what I could am then hand sand the corners.

Everything shown can be done with a $50 dewalt sande with various grit papers without paying the ridiculous prices from companies like surfprep

You can DO IT with a dewalt but once you go surfprep you will never go back. Actually, I have a Mirka and I regret not buying one years ago.
