    Great post, wonderful rig....Yota for life. my son got a 04' V-8 4Runner with 86k years ago. 2.5 in lift, tires bars, shafts fox shocks etc and around 120k miles ago, still runs like a tank. Can't wait for your build out, especially when it comes to the Ham radio, fog lights, LED all over the place, two lithium batteries for...and a Pioneer, Klipsch, Sony 1k watt stereo surround sound with 4k tv....uhh ohh, got ah little head of myself...im excited for ya!

  • @nickc3856
    @nickc3856 5 ปีที่แล้ว +47

    I mean this rig is fine I guess, but it doesn't stack up to the ultimate overlanding vehicle (my '92 Toyota Camry) which has premium expedition features like:
    -A powerful 1.8-liter engine that goes 0-60 in a BLAZING fast 22.5 seconds
    -Genuine _Panafonic™_ tape deck with Jimmy Buffett's _Cheeseburger in Paradise_ stuck on repeat
    - A half-eaten CLIF bar in the glove compartment for sustenance on the go
    ...and so much more. If you beg nicely, I MIGHT be willing to trade it to you for this Landcruiser.

    Very cool. I owned and drove a 1965 FJ-45 for 12 years. It was A close comparison to my WW2 Jeep (1943 GPW) and my g.granpa’s horse & buggy. Gas mileage varied from 10 to 12 MPG. Due to its great length (it was a long bed) it was not as good off road as my stock FJ-40. But it brought smiles to everyone who saw it, and I was beseeched by off roaders who wanted to buy it from me. They finally won out. Don’t let them get yours. So cool!

    Reminds me a lot of the FJ55 I owned in the early 1980s. I was going to do the V8 swap from Man-A-Fre but I ended up finding too much rust. I had to give it up. Build it up! It is absolutely a unique vehicle here in the states. I hope to one day see the Beast in person... Love it!

    To be honest, I don't think what people say here will matter.
    You bought this because you wanted it and wanted to build it to drive it. You didn't ask people if you should buy it or not. So, no matter what people say, you will still go ahead and build it because that is why you bought it in the first place. So, carry on with the plan. I can guarantee you that I will be watching the build.

    Wow, been lurking for a while but gotta say nice ride. I used to have a ‘74 FJ40 with a small block 383 stroker. A true “Chevota”. I miss that truck and how it would make the windows in my girl friends house rattle when I came to pick her up. That’s what her dad said anyway. 🤣I also had the exact winch on the front. Warn 8000 upright. Never let me down. Love the channel.

    Quite literally my dream car since I was a little kid. Yeah, a left hand drive would be nice, but I'll never say no to a right hand drive. I've been looking for a HJ45, left drive, diesel for YEARS. Never have I found one affordable. :-( (On a good note, I was able to check off one bucket list item, a 1968 Kaiser/Jeep Gladiator.)

      @@danielhill9080 Perfect for off road because of the torque and water crossing abilities. If you want on road power, by a Hellcat.

    • @danielhill9080
      @danielhill9080 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lboggan417 I grew up in the Western Desert of Australia's Northern Territory dude, one of the most remote places in the world, learnt to drive in Troopy, aged 7 or 8. You want plenty power in the bush, get you out of trouble, blast through mud, water, or sand, high top speed allows you to glide over the top of deeply corrugated, unsealed roads, which haven't been graded for years. Power and reliability are the two most crucial characteristics of a good bush vehicle. Toyota know what they're doing, the current Aussie 70 series Landcruiser has a 4.5L V8 turbo diesel, which produces 200kW of power (severely detuned 268 horses, easily capable of 400 chipped) and 650Nm of torque, soon to be replaced by a V6 with even more power. Seems you don't know what you're talking about.

    I only subscribed for the Alaska and Canada part as I one day wants to explore the area myself. Thought that it was just another travel series/channel and that I would unsubscribe when the Alaska - Canada series were over. But now that you have introduced the 40 series, I might just stay a tad longer :)
    A few thoughts on the cruiser.
    1. The transmission and transfer shouldn't whine like that unless some gears have been changed to straight cut gears. The seal between the gearbox and transfer often starts to leak after it gets really old. Then your oil can migrate to the transfer or get pumped up in the H55F. Either way, one will get empty and run dry, so be on a lookout for this. I have experienced both scenarios.
    2. Why gasoline? You now have quadrupled your fuel expenditure. The original H engine is a reliable engine, just add an oil cooler as it doesn't have one.
    3. I could probably help you get a cheap 2H engine from Scandinavia, you already got the sought after H55F, so you are set. Both the H and 2H are a real slug, but they do really wake up with a turbo.
    I have had an HJ60 with the 2H and now have an HJ61 with the 12H-T and they do really move and use little fuel. I get about 25mpg on long hauls driving between 80 and 110 kph. Ohh, and the sweet, sweet engine purr. And the turbo whistle.
    4. It should be capable offroad with the low 1st gear and low range, at least that is no problem with big tires and the 2H/12H-T engine. Do you have original locking differentials?
    5. Do an undercoat and keep doing them!

    Okay, so just to be clear, I'm not a Toyota guy (Jeeper thru and thru), but the Beast is awesome. Absolutely you should build it into an Overlander so you and the ladies can hit the trails. If you can leave the trailer at home, your fuel mileage (it may vary...) shouldn't be any worse than the big SUV. Looking forward to your continued adventures and build videos. Safe Travels and God Bless!

    cool ride, I wish Toyota sold the stripped down rugged version of land cruisers they sell in Australia here in the US. I like the 200 series cruisers but its too fancy and wide for offroading and overloading, I might get a 100 series LC and build it up, not too wide but still reliable.
