The fact that you guys are just coming up to the 100k sub number is one of the great crimes of social media. You guys should be over 500k. You have, and continue to, put out quality content on all levels. Your channel is also one that should be watched by more than just overland or Toyota fans, but should also include lifestyle, relationships, ingenuity, and the true grit required to accomplish what you guys have done. You both exhibit so many of the qualities that lead to success. The part where you were first stating the 3.4 reminded me of one of life's great axioms. If at first you don't succeed, drink some beer and try again!
Speaking for both of us, we can't wait to meet one day, hopefully around a campfire, Phil. I'm quite certain there will be many more 'beer required moments' during 2.0
The only people who don’t understand the magnitude and scale of the challenge in this bespoke creation they are either being spoon fed by someone else or they use a white cane to walk through life. I mean …..who does this!!!? Just swapping out a smaller OEM engine for a bigger one that then needs to be mounted and completely rewired by someone who has never attempted to do a job like that is a mammoth hurdle to overcome! If you think that’s hard try swapping out a smaller chassis for a beefier monocoque that will need bespoke parts welded to the frame just to make the body, the suspension, the larger wheels fit under a camper shell that was designed to fit a smaller chassis!? WHAT!? I applaud the creativity, the imagination and the courage to do such a monumental job that normally would require the type of skill set of a NASA engineer! Who else can create such a complex bespoke design as this!? Bravo!
@@ToyotaWorldRunnersas you're doing a version 2.0 I recommend you look at a _Watts linkage_ to replace the Panhard rods, it's a much nicer ride on extreme terrain as it keeps the axle centred in the frame, it also can have more travel than a Panhard rod. Depending how the steering linkage works replacing the front one may be overly complicated & thus unreliable though.
In high school, I restored an old Chevy c10 pickup with my dad. Small budget and 3 years, we finished just in time for to drive it to my graduation. It was one of the most satisfying feelings and I had never felt such pride and accomplishment in my work up to that point. I can only imagine the excitement of putting this beauty on the highway!
Love this transformation. My Father had one of those in stock form. We traveled all over CA, NV, OR, and WA fishing wherever we could. If we'd had something like this the World would've been a beautiful goal... Thank you for this trip down memory lane...
I've had this dream for probably 10 yrs. You guys actually did it! Just as cool as I dreamt it would be! Love it! Thank you for tackling this project, now I want to build one even more!
Watched the full build. That's how I got hooked. 2.0 version should be even more awesome. Gotta get ready for Alaska and beyond. I'll keep watching while you keep the Landcuriser chinook rollin.
Im watching from Wasilla Alaska. Id love to meet these two when they make it up this way. Beautiful build. Ive always loved the Chinooks and Dolphins. Awesome build.
I have had four 4 runner’s. I was just telling a buddy of mine today about the motor from my 1998. At 250k miles, I changed the standard water pump timing belt, but also changed out the oil pump. Changing the oil pump was the ticket. Everyone always changes the water pump and belt but never hear about the oil pump. I tell you that motor ran and sounded like a sewing machine afterwards. I revedl the motor by hand at the throttle body and that motor was so dang quiet and smooth. I have a 2010 and it pales in comparison. We dropped the oil pan and cleaned it out and the pick up tube at the time of oil pump. You could check the oil months later and the oil was as clean as the day you put it in. The 3.4 will run forever and whisper quiet if you maintain it. Again, changing the original oil pump out with a new one made it crazy quiet with no valve noise or lifters . Prior to replacing it you would have a faint ticking at idle, afterwards it was gone and any other noise that never realized or noticed anything abnormal until after the pump replacement, was also gone.
Did you replace it with the Toyota factory part, or something aftermarket? I want to quiet my drivetrain down when I do my next coolant system service.
"I just wanted to express that this build is, by far, my favorite! In all the years I've watched countless builds across various TH-cam channels, nothing compares to this one. You, along with your wife, family, friends, and everyone involved, have created the most beautiful, affordable, and realistic go-anywhere, all-purpose vehicle I’ve ever seen. Absolutely amazing the amount of work you put into this project. Congratulations to you and your team for the success of this work. I really enjoyed the narrative of your trips. I’m glad you guys had such a great time driving all the way to Argentina. The transformation of the truck was amazing.
What an amazing vision you had to put this together (the build and story). You’ve done it again. Easily a million pairs of eyeballs on this before the weekend. People need to see this!
It’s crazy to think that this awesome channel has only 100k subscribers! This is by far the best all around off-road/overland/adventure/cinematic/best storytelling channel in a low budget! Thank you guys for sharing your adventures!
Can’t believe how much work had to go into that build. I’m very impressed that you kept going despite all the setbacks and custom fabrication required!
"Factory parts wherever possible" is honestly so smart. They may not have been designed to work in exactly that configuration, but you know they're made out of the right quality materials to a certain minimum standard that will (most likely) last on the road. And, as you alluded to - it's possible to get repairs/replacements on them instead of having to fab a whole new one.
This was entertaining the entire time, I’m usually skipping through trying to get to a good part but I enjoyed every bit of it. The skills that all of you have to put this together was awesome. I want one of theses now

Very well done brother. That is one of the most impressive overlander builds I've seen in sometime. I'm in in the process of a (very slow) 3rd gen 4Runner build and you've given me a lot of encouragement and inspiration! My GF and I dream of doing this kind of overlanding one day. Keep up the fantastic work! Can't beat the 5VZ! I have 296,000 on mine and she still pulls strong. I'll be following you closely from now on! Best of luck
I wish I had your knowledge and skills to do this kind of stuff -- Wow! Thoroughly Impressed. Congratulations on the great build - and the great video!!!
Wowsers. This video just popped up on my recommended. And I’m so glad it did. Well done guys. Coming from a fellow Landcruiser 80 series owner, this machine you’ve built is bloody amazing. I absolutely love it. I will subscribe and watch everything you guys do. Cant wait for version 2. ❤
That's instant like from me when I saw this beautiful car I didn't know it even exists. Watching you giving it a new life is so fascinating, Thanks for that. Wish you safe and enjoyable adventures!
All I can say is …..wow. Just the filming and editing alone is a task. I can’t even talk to the complexities of this build….ok I can also say…Bravo! And thank you. I subscribed immediately and look forward to what yall do in the future.
Sure doesn't look like your first build. Your skill with welding is 2nd to none. Great Build. Looking forward to your trails down South America Way. The Best To You and Your Team.
Gotta comment… this video and build? Was so professionally executed. I sat with a smile the whole time watching. You are a artist and you guys built a piece of art. Absolutely this is the 2nd video ever !!!!! That will go down as a favorite. Great job and god bless ..
I don’t even know why this popped up on my feed as I do performance shoe reviews. But this video deserves to go viral, the whole entire build was custom down to bolts and welds. This brought me back to the old MTV days of “Pimp My Ride” only my real OG’s know what I’m talkin about 😭☠️
Great video as usual! You have some great talent Matt. After watching all of your whole series of adventures, I was inspired to buy some Falken tires for my Toyota. I love them, best tires ever!
Back in the mid 80's I built the same rig for a friend. But, instead of wasting my time changing the frame, I swapped in land cruiser front and rear ends with electric lockers and lower gearing. With the lower gearing the stock motor worked great and got almost 20mpg cruising. Like you mention in your video, the frames are almost identical so no need to go through the pain of changing them out.
I just came across your channel. Wow, is all I can say, exceptional work, mate. I've never seen this car before (im from Australia). It looks like a monster, great work 👏 👍 👌.
I just saw one of these old original chinooks today at the local grocery store getting dinner, follow your progress for a while. I was explaining to my adventure, buddy. What a Chinook was, and what they can be.
I was looking your build and i was amazed how well made that truck is mate. Then i was thinking. Here un argentina You'll be doing some offroad or dune driving and then you see some bone stock Fiat 147 or volkswagens gol driving on the snow/sand/mud like it is nothing... But You'll steal the looks man good job

Given the distance and the potentials for hazards and encounters with "undesireables" i'mglad you were able to do it all safely. the composition of the video was also worth subscribing. Thanks for sharing.

Love to hear it! We speak very highly of this motor!
I wish I had your knowledge and skills to do this kind of stuff -- Wow! Thoroughly Impressed. Congratulations on the great build - and the great video!!!
Thank you!!
Wow this build is outta this world!!! SOOOOO COOL! Makes me want to build something and go on an adventure with my family.
Thank you so much! 🙌🏻
That's instant like from me when I saw this beautiful car I didn't know it even exists. Watching you giving it a new life is so fascinating, Thanks for that. Wish you safe and enjoyable adventures!
Thanks for watching! We can’t wait to give it a whole different life again coming this fall 😅
This is really one the most interseting build I have ever seen. A word first build in the unknown wowww this is amazing. Congratulation for this build
Thank you so much!
All I can say is …..wow. Just the filming and editing alone is a task. I can’t even talk to the complexities of this build….ok I can also say…Bravo! And thank you. I subscribed immediately and look forward to what yall do in the future.
Thank you so much for the compliment!
Sure doesn't look like your first build. Your skill with welding is 2nd to none. Great Build. Looking forward to your trails down South America Way. The Best To You and Your Team.
Thank you!1
Gotta comment… this video and build? Was so professionally executed. I sat with a smile the whole time watching. You are a artist and you guys built a piece of art. Absolutely this is the 2nd video ever !!!!! That will go down as a favorite. Great job and god bless ..
So happy you enjoyed it!! Thank you so much 🤙🏼
I don’t even know why this popped up on my feed as I do performance shoe reviews. But this video deserves to go viral, the whole entire build was custom down to bolts and welds. This brought me back to the old MTV days of “Pimp My Ride” only my real OG’s know what I’m talkin about 😭☠️
Pimp my ride! What a compliment 💪🏼
Great video as usual! You have some great talent Matt. After watching all of your whole series of adventures, I was inspired to buy some Falken tires for my Toyota. I love them, best tires ever!
Glad to have helped with that tough decision, you made a great choice!
By far .....the greatest build I've ever seen!
Haha awesome!! Thanks 🤘🏼
I just came across your channel. Wow, is all I can say, exceptional work, mate. I've never seen this car before (im from Australia). It looks like a monster, great work 👏 👍 👌.
Thank you! We appreciate it
I just saw one of these old original chinooks today at the local grocery store getting dinner, follow your progress for a while. I was explaining to my adventure, buddy. What a Chinook was, and what they can be.
So rad! We hope to own a stock one again one day
I always thought that these old Toyotas needed to be on the 4Runner platform. Excellent build, well done
Haha you’re right!
Today is Nov. 2, 2024 Phil time... Subscribed and Liked this video coz it's a Holiday and no Office works, but seriously, LOVED this Vid. God Bless!!!💪💪💪
Cheers! Thank you for watching 🤘🏼
Wow, this was fricking awsome!
I wanted to do this on bikes but then figured a van would be more realistic, but something like this would be amazing!
Thanks! We’ve heard bikes is a pretty unforgettable experience. More human interaction for sure!
This is one of the best videos i have seen on TH-cam. This build is amazing. Have a fun trip and look forward to the next video.
Thank you so much!

You've earned a new Follower from the Philippines. I loved how the build was going and was always fascinated by this content. You definitely had me hooked up while I was Scrolling through what to watch while working at home. Keep it Up! 💪🔥
🙏🏼 welcome!!
That's epic. You put time and money in all the right places. Love the brake upgrade and suspension. Good luck. God speed on your adventures.
Thank you!
Given the distance and the potentials for hazards and encounters with "undesireables" i'mglad you were able to do it all safely. the composition of the video was also worth subscribing. Thanks for sharing.
insane build! even for ver1.0 its perfect! Hello from Belarus followers🖖
Thank you!!
You two have the best overlanding channel in my opinion. I can’t believe you don’t have more subs,,,, it must be an algorithm thing??
I’ll do what I can to help, sending a link to this video out to friends and family right now!
Love this! We appreciate it 🤙🏼🤙🏼
