Nice, I had my troopy HJ45 for thirty five years as my daily run around, a great truck. I Sold it for twice my purchase price. The new owner did a soft restoration, the vehicle will run on for many decades. Cheers
Love it! Nothing flashy - just everything that works for the owner! I have had 3 x 60’s, an 80, a 100TD and a 200 - my hj61 with the 12ht is the favourite of the lot, but watching this 40 has got me looking at Gumtree....
Darcy's rig looks great .. simple but effective for what they want, the KISS format works great. Rig rundown episodes are great for me because they give me ideas of what I'd like to do to my diesel non-turbo 80 series. I look forward to seeing what you do with your troopy. I had an FJ40 petrol many years ago and it was a great fun beast.
That’s a great fj 40 series Troopy. 😃👍. I liked the vid 🦘🦘🦘. My Troopy has a Perth Brunswick x-military low kms V8 with a turbo. 75 series 5 speed with ranger 111 Daisy drive. I’m still working on it since 2009. My wife laughs when I say, ‘I fixed the Troopy!!!’ How many times has she heard that? I’m yet to find space for the air con condenser, then I’ll be right and the original knee freezer will be back up and running. It’s already got 10 radiators to keep it cool, but it works. 8 of them are oil coolers for radiators as well as a front radiator and a massive one underneath in the wheel well. It’s amazing what you can do with heater hose and high pressure irrigation pipe. Also I’m yet to connect the double Donaldsons to the turbo. It sounds like a farm tractor and smells like one too. The Troopy seats 10 people. I recommend everyone gets an old Troopy, and just poke along with it, if that’s what you would like to do for a hobby. And it’s really exciting, you never know who will come over and have a yarn about it next.🦘🦘🦘👍. People love the old troopees the most I reckon, more than the shorties and tray backs, and like old mate said in the vid, they are getting harder to find.
Great Troopy. Couple of comments I want to share. The snorkel. You might consider carrying a removable extension tube for those unknown depths. Hate to see you suck any water into that motor. Also, the roof rack. How about a sheet of something lightweight on the bottom of the rack, to give an extra layer protection from the sun. Remember the old Landys had a double layer on some, with airflow between. Adds some insulation, as the top layer cops all the heat. Safe travels. Greg - TAS

The toughest ride I’ve seen was an Hj ute dumped on its guts, 22 inch low profiles, growling V8,chrome side pipes and timber tray. It drove through Newcastle one night and I haven’t seen it since. Food for thought.
Found an old cruiser in a paddock for $200! Wish that was me! Did he know the owners or was it on Gumtree/Marketplace? Ill have to keep and eye out for $200 cruisers...
Just be careful of those kick out vents in the foot well. On our way to our wedding in the middle of summer I was getting a bit hot so I kicked mine out resulting in both of us getting covered in dust , the wifes wedding dress & all. OUCH !!
Mine was a pre cleaner about roof high leading into the standard Toyota air cleaner ( which does a really good job of filtration with a pre cleaner). Crossing the finis river ( and others)in flood I was glad the air intake was up high, (bonnet under water ) current vehicle (2012 Navara) has a pre cleaner mounted on a safari snorkel, again it,s up high. I had my troopy long before Roothy was popular, didn’t know who he was back then. ✌️
That salt water driving makes me cringe, it sends my anti rust OCD into overtime but at the same time you gotta do what you gotta do to see some cool places I guess.
