Awesome trucks, here in Honduras they are still the work horses of inland coffee farms and cattle ranches, they are powered by an inline 6, 3.6l Diesel H engine.
Over in my country ( Venezuela) the Fj45 is super common, they’re everywhere and still use as daily/work truck to this day. The vast majority of them still rocking the 2F or 3F engine
If it was from Costa rica was it a Bandeirante or Japanese made? I can't say Im for the 4bt conversion. I think a mild turbo 1hz would have been the better choice, but I'm glad that he's happy with it.. The 4BT is a bit of a boneshaker and the 1HZ is so silky.
That is definitely one cool rig but 6 figures seems a bit much for any off road rig. I'll just hang on to my FJ40 for now. It still has a lot of the same cool factor and off road capabilities at about 1/4 of the value!
Those trucks are legends here in Costa Rica 🇨🇷, they were literally the workhorses in the coffee farms... they gained reputation of being indestructible and people said joking that you could easily climb a tree with one of those without even revving the engine 🤣... a lot of them are still running and being restored all around the country, glad to see this one in perfect shape👌🏾
Pretty sweet! I own a 1980 FJ40 with the original 2F inline six. I also know of a house in Las Cruces, NM that has a FJ45 pickup parked out front. Nice rig!
can't blame him, it's just too old and slow. Nice to have only if you are a purist. I removed mine too (still have it in the garage) and installed a 14BT turbo from a dyna probably.
Checkout the brazilian land cruiser, it's called BANDEIRANTE and its model was only released here🇧🇷, look up for the whole history and versions of the truck!
One thing I know about this guy from every interview...is that every vehicle he ever worked on needed EVERYTHING rebuilt......maybe that is how he makes so much money??? You know the kind of guy, they have them in every shop.....sorry buddy you need a new engine/gearbox/everything, we can source on but it's gonna cost like $$$$$$$$$.
Just bought one a couple of weeks ago here in Costa Rica. Want to rebuild to sell. Dont know whether to keep the original 2H engine or go for 1HZ or 1HDT
Land Cruiser, the official workhorse of Central America. These pickups trucks (and their “SUV” counterpart whatever they are called) where used and abused in coffee plantations and dairy farms for decades until they eventually became too old, too worn and too rusty (especially rusty due to rain and mud) to keep in service. Now they are getting “restored” locally and then sent abroad where they sell, sometimes, for unreasonable amounts of money! Who would have thought that an old and abused work instrument would become so expensive! I remember a few years ago we were to take a look at an old pickup truck like this that was for sale. It was “cheap” but decades of work at a dairy farm had taken its toll on the body and chassis. The chassis was too rusty to be saved and there was evidence of several poorly done resprays in the past, collision damage, lots of bondo everywhere, trashed interior, it had a wooden bed that was rotten and it needed mechanical work too. In other words, it was a complete basket case not worthy of restoration. Finding a good or even decent example of that kind of car is next to impossible and when one appears is expensive, so most of the examples that are exported to the USA are basket cases like the one that I described that are patched, resprayed, reupholstered and refurbished mechanically so they look nice and can be sold easily for a good profit. If you were to buy a good example or restore it a good example, there wouldn’t be any money to be made. So, if you are considering one of these, go a take a look at it in person and check it very well so you don’t buy an overpriced rust bucket that will rust again and look like thrash in a few short years.
Ohhh... That's not rare... HJ45 with factory deisel would have been more rare ... U just took an FJ45 body and put a Cummins in it .... and put a bunch of crap on it so now it's worthless as far as original goes
I had one they are absolute crap 2 motors and a gearbox later I sold it poor bloke that brought it.Leaf springs on a 4 wheeler use less coils the only way to go.
Sell the UAZ 4 this Andrei. I can’t believe he’s saving a couple of unimogs from snow to drive a boring GLA instead, as if they’re some collectible spots cars. There’s almost no point of having them. People sure are weird.
outback farm. Gee mate is that an old cruiser... yeah mate. how many Kays she's done... oh about 900.000Kays. she needs much attention. Nah mate. an oil change now and then.
Here in Costa Rica you see these everywhere. Amazing vehicle and is still used as a work truck in farms all around the country.
I used to live in Costa Rica 7 years ago, but yes. These things are everywhere
Wish these were sold in America just like this
9
the 45 and 70 series LC's are the ultimate badass Toyota pick-ups.
I used one of those as a daily to go to college for 5 years in South America, it was an FJ with 2F engine. They are expensive here in the U.S

Yep, the reliable 2H engine!
My brother had one of these for use in the Alberta oil fields. Indestructible, harsh riding, slow, uncomfortable and SO COOL WE ALL LOVED THAT THING!
So many of these in Australia, they are literally rotting out on farms everywhere. The HJ45 was a na 4L diesel, generally good for 500-600k km
If Toyota came out with this type of body style yet modernized features and interior and drivetrain, it would literally sell out in .1 seconds
Thank US emissions regulations, unfortunately we will never see it here

All are Japanese made. We never got the south american made cruisers for some reason (Colombia & Venezuela made them too)
I also agree the 1hz/1hd is a far better engine, also a lot more expensive and harder to find even here in Central America!
I agree
HJ45 and HJ 47 S are common in Australia back in the day
Not fast but you can’t kill em

I think you mean 1/4 the price and all the value
See these with the factory engines in El Salvador loaded with coffee, sugar cane, or wood. Wish i could import one.
I'm so jealous. I would love to add one of these to my Land Cruiser collection aspirations.

Screw them for removing the H motor 😢

Yes Sr, this is a common rig here in Costa Rica 🤙🏼🇨🇷
Still have the Costa Rican registration sticker on right top of the windshield, nice HJ45.
Great video. I have enjoyed all the videos with Jay and Andre. Jay has some cool toys!
My guy really imported one of the rarest diesel pickups and replaced the motor. This is why normal people can't find these
Agree!
My dream truck 😍
I wish Toyota would make old school like this now
There are many of these in Colombia, but hundreds of thousands in Venezuela.
Checkout the brazilian land cruiser, it's called BANDEIRANTE and its model was only released here🇧🇷, look up for the whole history and versions of the truck!
The truck that broke Land Rovers domination of the farm truck market here in Ireland.
Pity they rotted like a pear.

If from Costa Rica, where is the “Otro… TOYOTA” sticker?
That is super cool.
This thing would cost a small fortune where I live
The big question? Does the "glovebox" say Pocket?
Just bought one a couple of weeks ago here in Costa Rica. Want to rebuild to sell. Dont know whether to keep the original 2H engine or go for 1HZ or 1HDT
Makes me miss my '81 FJ-40.
Jay Couch reminds me of the GTA5 character Dom Beasley :D

Paul at fab rats here on TH-cam is building one of these right now!
You can't never go wrong with 4bt 3.9 Cummins
That is an AWESOME truck!!
you should make some video with it why sill can. it vs bread box vs trx vs rover..
Quais a medidas dos pneus?
Awesome Truck!!! you guys need to buy it to do a comparison
Jay has the coolest stuff...
Perfectly purpose built!
I want one!!
Check out Fabrats build of his HJ. He is in the middle of the ultimate rock crawler build.
Ohhh... That's not rare... HJ45 with factory deisel would have been more rare ... U just took an FJ45 body and put a Cummins in it .... and put a bunch of crap on it so now it's worthless as far as original goes
I still drive my '81 TLC BJ41.
Love it
Should have put an 12h-t in it. Or a newer 1hd-ft/1hd-fte, hell even an 1hz.
nice truck. land cruiser used to be like a jeep cj but Japanese.
In my next life, I plan to be wealthy...
🤞🏻🤞🏻
Amen Brother! No doubt about THAT!
Paul from FabRats is making one
I would trade a kidney for that rig.
holy crap do I want this one!
Love it but the cummins is rubbish would have left the 2H engine in it if it was my car.
You off roaded it?
This video should be titled “At what point is a Land Cruiser not a Land Cruiser” 😑
Jeep needs to make a modern version of this.
Very popular in middle east specially in Saudi Arabia and Yemen
More please.
I own a 1978 h diesel hj45 original condition only aftermarket thing it has its a/c if toyota brings this old school back they will go broke
The 4BT is awesome. The 2.8 is terrible
Love it, I’ll give ya $20k 😉
Wow!
I like it! I like it “alawt”!!! Haha.
Can't beat a Toyota tractor.
got a buddy w one in arizona he cant find a place to work on it lol
Resurrection land cruisers in Colorado
Great 🤗🤠👌🤝
20 miles per gallon = 🤗
It's a HJ not a FJ. FJ is the petrol engine HJ is the diesel.
Never seen a left-hand drive one.
I have one (Canada) haha
Awe not Jay leno...
I don’t personally like it. Fairly unimpressive for the money invested.
I had one they are absolute crap 2 motors and a gearbox later I sold it poor bloke that brought it.Leaf springs on a 4 wheeler use less coils the only way to go.
sorry clicked off when he said it was a Cummins swap, at least its not as bad as an LS swap but still
That's FJ still many of them in my country, and American buy them and sell it to Hawaii for high price

I'd rather perfect 79 G wagon for half that at most.
Tlf conclusion the ford 150 ecoboost and the fiat 3.6 gladiator is the vehicle to buy 😂
WHERE’S THE OFF ROADING?? I OFF ROAD IT.?? LIES!
Absolutely. Keep it washed everyday and it might last 10 years
10 years? It's not a Land Rover.
outback farm. Gee mate is that an old cruiser... yeah mate. how many Kays she's done... oh about 900.000Kays. she needs much attention. Nah mate. an oil change now and then.
I’ve never seen wheels that should come with a lead poisoning warning.
No sweets..bad for teeth
Trade you my xB
