This just shows that the developers were influenced by the modding community along with the other new super boss. Glad to see that they added new stuff like this.
In PM64, one of his attacks was throwing his bump, but whenever he did, it would crash the game ‘cause Whacka is an unused and unfinished enemy, so the game can’t process Whacka throwing his bump, lol.
I kind of wish they made Jr. Troopa a superboss too, playing off that little cameo in Zip Toad's email. It'd be amazing to just go back to Riverside Station or something and just, out of nowhere, hear "MARIOOOOOOO!" and then the music starts playing.
Ahhh this is SUCH a missed opportunity! I didn't even think about that. A fully powered 200 HP Jr. Troopa with every battle gimmick imaginable would have been incredible. Just to hear him say "Darn it, darn it, DAAAARN IIIITTTT!!!!!!" at the end 😂😂
They could've added Jr. Troopa as like a 1% spawn any time you change screens post-game, so you never really know when he's gonna appear. I forget the term for it, but they would need to program it so that you're guaranteed to get him in 100 screen changes so you don't have to run back and forth for hours to see him. So post-game you've got a 1/100 on your first screen change, then a 1/99 on the second, and so on until you get a guaranteed Jr. Troopa encounter. I'd love to have seen him return in this remake.
the fact they added this AND mush just shows how much love was poured into this, i just remember the community talking about how the whaka you hit shouldve attacked you as a secret boss, or that mush shouldve been a secret boss fight. to see both become true is just awesome. also to further add to this, kinda funny that unlike mush, wacka HAS one status condition he's actually weak to...and its the one that damages him, aka, strengthening him. the dev's knew what they were doing.
@yomama9390 I know it’s not much, but not only is it a remake that fans have been asking for for about 20 years or so at this point, but it’s also a complete asset remake of the game and it adds little extra details into the game! Am I saying that you’re wrong? No, because tbf the only new thing content wise that was added was the two bosses, but they did a lot outside of the content additions so it does sorta make sence as to why Prince Mush and Wacka are the only two new bosses
@thepainpanda7681 Yeah, there’s little to improve when it comes to the challenge of TTYD, unlike when they remade Mario RPG last year. That’s why they added a lot more postgame to that one
The Remake in general really feels like it’s encouraging players to use builds that don’t include Power Bounce or to get good at getting frame perfect jumps since they made the timing more difficult (instead of 7-7-6-6-5-4-3-2-1-1… it’s 7-7-6-1-4-3-2-1-1… so they expect most players to only get three bounces in per use).
I mean... you should still Power Bounce (or use Mega Rush P strats), just with a focus on getting more damage per hit. You will always need about the same number of hits to kill him, and slowing the fight down just means that he will get more bumps that are only worth 1 of his HP. Just also use Boo's Sheets or Life Shrooms. Or Rally Wink to kill him in one turn.
Such a creatively thought out boss. Basically most OP strats that involve chain attacks (power bounce, yoshi's group pound or whatever it's called) now get used against you. Actually pretty cool tbh.
@@frankmaae8216 This would be true if Life Shroom wasn't the best healing item in the game by miles, guarding infinite damage at the cost of 0 turns. You can also just use Quick Change + Mega Rush P strats.
Honestly it's a pretty cool boss fight, though it's kind of a missed opportunity that superguarding the bumps doesn't work like superguarding pokey segments. Like imagine if whacka used superguards too and you had to volley the bumps back at him a few times
Yeah that’s how I did this fight, I had Mario attack (Spring Jump) than had Vivian use vail to avoid all of Wakka’s bumps. Then Wakka goes again but just did further damage to himself which is also dodge by the next vail. 😂🧀
And Whacka and Prince Mush can both be fought as many times as you want. BUT, for this rematch, you have to fight your way down through the 100th floor every time (even after paying 300 coins to start at Floor 50).
This is the strat I used. He always spends the turn when you're vulnerable to create bumps, with the following turn while you're veiled to throw them. Made the fight actually free, even if kinda slow and tedious.
They didn't really denied to be fair they just wanted to focus on other way to make a paper mario game which is completely valid (also I don't think they took less than 5 years to make it)
It's funny because the og paper director came back because he finished working on the fire emblem card game and he felt the need to do a remake right away lol.
I'm pretty sure that I'm not the first person to realize this. but given the gimmick of the fight that Whacka self damage itself with hazards to gain it's attack. you can do a "pacifist" challenge in which you just superguard all of Whacka's moves until it's health reaches 0.
Definitely feel like Mush is a much more difficult fight since you can't mow him down just as easily as whacka. Honestly think Whacka just needs to be able to heal with his bumps more often instead of basically only once, that'd be what really helps push him toward being on par with Mush. This is still an amazing fight, and both bosses are amazing in their own ridiculous ways
@@miepsi4299 Well we know the red whacka bumps heal 75 hp, could be fitting for him to eat one of those. Not a full heal but at least would fit with what they have already there. But I do dig the idea for sure
Maybe its too much to ask, but I REALLY hope both of them get changes in any potential patches. Have a damage cap on the first phase of Mush to combat OHKOs, and make Whacka heal more often. They're minor enough changes that I feel they're possible, but I dunno
@@squiddu Don't remove OHKO strats, if people want to cheat themselves out of the fight let them. This game isn't meant to be hard but rather allow options and creativity to avoid mechanics should be rewarded. I love how they made prince mush, he does crazy damage and if you don’t super gaurd him he’ll be unhittable for the next turn
For this fight I recommend using piercing blow and power stomp along with power lift. (It also helps I have 100hp)
You can't do pre-Cortez since Cortez is the only one that can take you off Kehelhaul Key.
Can’t believe this bloody whacka could deal 27 damage in one attack.
Fun fact: Whacka was originally intended to be fightable in the original Paper Mario 64.
you can actually beat that guy in one turn if you equip a ton of dmg ups
I love how everyone is losing it over the Whacka fight and not even mentioning the CRAZY Prince Mush Fight you can do.
Dark Star Edition moment.
I had way more trouble with the other new boss than with this guy
The Thousand Year Door: Whacka Whacks Back!
Whacka finally gets revenge for all those bumps you knocked off...
This is why you don't whack Whacka.
My boy finally got revenge
Not bad for being able to bring back an unused feature. Also, what is your opinion on the song?
I brought him all the way down to 1 HP, and for some reason he decided to do the earthquake attack and a bucket fell down and finished him off lol
Behold, the TRUE ultimate life-form.
I love the fact that whacka's just a better version of anti guy
Honestly, by seeing how amazing the rework for music, areas and backtracking... I do hope a randomizer mod will happen 'cause DAMN i'll be on it for days xD
LOL, what, is this canon to the remake now? XD
Man, I swear it would be so awesome to have a bonus boss like the Radian Dragon from Radiata Stories again. :p
So how do you fight this guy? Is it like the shadow fight in Super Paper Mario after doing the 100 trials twice?
I’m just a bit happy about this, when I beat Whacka, I got double Star Points.
And on floor 98, I got 2 Amayzee Daisy’s in one battle for 97 SP, leveling up, then got enough on floor 99 to level up again.
Curious if Art Attack would've caused a bump with each hit; I'm gonna guess yes. Maybe he also only heals if there's only one bump on the stage, or perhaps his RNG for picking "heal" goes down with each bump on the stage? I also wonder if it ate the red bump if it would have healed an enormous amount, lol
Yellow Whacka Bumps = 10 Damage
Red Whacka Bumps = 25 Damage
Did Wacka eats his own bump?
Why would they say mod inspired them to create this super boss? It's the same company that down fan-games and rom hacking!
3:12 Sado-macho 3:58 Oh shit! 4:54 Dang it! 8:23 WHAT?! 9:5027 Damages?! 11:06 Hello meteor 11:16 Plus the statue!
12:27 Good Shell Shield! 13:26 Golden Bump FTW!
Start: do heavy damages and super guard well
No mod, paper mario 64 has unused tattle and battle stuff so it originally was going to be an enemy you fight.
@@3DTwinkies Now, that's more like it!
Very cool boss
I just wish charge didn’t completely break the fight
I had a feeling a new enemy appeared in the Pit of 100 Trials because of the Tattle Log (133 was the one I was missing, it's after the Shadow Queen and it's after Bonetail if sorted by place) so I did the pit again right after beating it and didn't find anything at the bottom so I had to look up how to unlock it and got spoiled 😢 that's what I get for sparring Wacka on the island LOL (thank you devs for the option to skip to Floor 50...)
I’m pretty sure the meteor and statue are scripted because I got 2 of each when I fought him
They are not, I never saw them
how to easily cheese whacka:
mario in first, vivian in second
power bounce for mario then use veil
whacka will attack on the veil turn then attack himself on the turn after
I still need to do Whacka but Mush was fun, although kinda easy if you can superguard.
I beat it quite easily by just stacking charges, makes for a great way to minimize your hits on him and do it all at once, or at least as much as possible.
Can someone help me with this? I didn't know about this fight until I already completed the game, so I didn't get Whacka to leave Keelhaul Key until the post game. I have done literally everything else, all I'm missing is this battle but I've been wandering the game world for like 20 minutes and I still haven't gotten the RDM mail that gets him to spawn in the pit.
Is there some kind of trick or timelimit or is it actually completely random when you get the mail? I don't want to go into the pit again only to be greeted by nothing but just aimlessly running around isn't much better.
EDIT: NEVERMIND!!! I just got it literally after writing this! As if the game fucking knew.
Felt. I went down the pit with the mindset of "I'll get the email before I reach the bottom."
I reach the bottom, leave, get the email like 5m later.
KISS THIEF DOESN'T STEAL A WHACKA BUMP
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO REFUND
also, methinks they need to put some of the modding community in the special thanks after you beat whacka
they should've made it so u could target a whacka bump too
Paper Mario 64 had an unused whacka fight in its code, which modders worked off of. It’s unlikely that Nintendo took inspiration from them.
He didn't use kiss theef when a bump was out
flurries wind not works against bumps too
U get whacka bumps on refights
I wanna see someone troll and just power bounce and use yoshi to attack him lol.
omg this is SUCH a funny boss, loved that they did this!!! great level of challenge
I’m having a hard time getting the email saying whacka is there I’ve completed every part of the game 100% and hit whacka 8 times on the island. Does anyone know what triggers it?
Edit: I battled prince mush again just to see if it did anything and I got the email after coming back to rougeport so try that if any of you guys can’t get it
Need to beat the pit once prior, beat the game, and smack whacka till he's gone
Yeah I finished those three things but I’m still not getting anything this is the last thing I need to do to get 100%
@@jasonc6202did you beat mush?
@@techteen3000 yeah all tattles all bosses beaten all collectibles and I’ve beaten the game
@@jasonc6202it’s 30 minutes after getting whacka to leave keel haul key and beating bonetail requirements are met. Just be patient I had the same problem and got concerned 😅
