@@bestaround3323 He said outright at the beginning of the video that he wasn't allowing super guards because they would have made the video uninteresting. 1:33
While it wasn't directly stated, it was indirectly stated why Damage Dodge is worse. The interaction with Last Stand is why. In 64, Damage Dodge triggers after Last Stand, so if it reduces the damage to 1, Damage Dodge makes it 0. In TTYD, that's not the case
Actually the real reason he calls out Damage dodge in particular is because of the piercing damage moves. If you can't defend you can't get the benefit of damage dodge. Though he didn't mention it, he kind of made the point clear when he mentioned "In PM 64, Bowser couldn't pierce and defense was a straight reduction, now almost all the end game bosses pierce defense..." Just have to remember what he said about Damage dodge. Also Magnus Von Grapple 2.0 is similar, he explicitly says "But he has no defense piercing moves, meaning we get +6 defense out the gate" as the first battle has that quake move which can't be guarded.
I will now defend Veil. She's actually one of the best characters in Fire Emblem Engage, her unique class serves as a dragon unit, meaning that she can get maximum benefit out of many engage rings, especially Soren if you've got him. She also has quite respectable stats and is useable from the getgo, and has a signature weapon that's actually really good. In addition, she has a useful passive ability, which whilst not as good as Alear's can still make a difference and save your units at times. Not even counting gameplay, she is also one of the few characters who is actually relevant to the story, along with Alear, Mauvier and Hortensia. Most of the rest of your units don't really have much importance sadly. She gets some really nice critical hit lines and some genuinely great moments, even if they are a bit silly and- Wait. That's Veyle, not Veil. Yeah, that move sucks..... Sorry for wasting your time.
I had this same thought in this video, and yes the Veyle/Soren crit build is really funny to pull off. I really hope Intelligent Systems updates their little Petalburg gamer Toad to play Fire Emblem Engage.
Kappy’s “unsuperguardable attacks” short coming in handy for a prediction here. We can’t superguard Hooktail’s or Gloomtail’s bite, as well as 2/3 Shadow Siren attacks, and Shadow Queen’s attack with the hands that pull you under the stage. So I expect it’s only possible if there’s a consistent way to kill those enemies before these types of attacks go off.
Hooktail, Gloomtail can both be 2/3 rounded with perfect setups and Shadow Queen... you can cheese very easily with a giga glass cannon set up and/or perma farm power badges...
I didn't think you'd be able to do the pit or the shadow queen. Shouldn't have doubted you, holy crap. Those strategies you used were wild. You should do more videos like these, the way you make and edit them is very entertaining
TTYD is a very unhinged game in terms of crazy strats, you can 1 round almost everything in the game if you spend enough time doing setups/ glitches/ farming...
There are ton of little secrets like that, most people didn't even know about badge farming when it first came out and even then not every badge effect stacks like you'd expect (or they don't stack in ways you'd expect, stacking item hog, heart finder, flower finder and money money all cancel each other out, it just manpiulates the odds of getting one of the four drops relative to each other and while 32 is the max number of units that can drop, item hog is more the chance an item drops period and is based on the type and number of enemies you defeated, but item hog only affects the odds an item WILL drop period, not the odds you get an item from the enemies.) Same for how much the dodge badges stack their bonuses to make Mario nearly unhittable. It's pretty cool how indepth things are. Just a shame it's all overkill even to casual players. Hope the remake makes a challenge mode.
I am so glad you showed off a lot of creativity in this run, many challenge runs tend to take the easiest way out, which doesn't always pan out great for the viewer experience. Loved the gags, went back to replay that spicy pasta ending lmao
I'll admit when he did the danger mario segment I was like "Hold on.... you're not going to..." but he stood by his pride and didn't. I recall he also didn't in PM64 despite mentioning it as he wanted to show every fight (including Master 3) is possible without it and he stated that "If I lower my health to 5 that technically isn't "taking damage", but it IS reducing my health so therefore...it's taking damage) and thus banned it. I really love the integrity of his run. That's what top tier paper mario gameplay looks like. Strategizing, not watching a video or hearing about a strat and suddenly becoming an expert. XD (Gosh can't wait for the remake to come out.....)
I genuinely don't know if it's possible to beat Sticker Star, or Origami king damageless, but I know Color Splash is impossible due to the nature of the final battle. The only "Thing card" that can one shot bowser is the card that you get after beating him, his own castle, and defense cards will prevent Huey from absorbing the black paint so he'll just heal himself like he does when he hits you normally. I think Mizztar Blizzard in Sticker Star being the only boss who's immune to being crumpled was proven possible to beat damageless, but I think you need a damage sponge for one turn cause of his multi phase battle structure. and Origami King.... that's impossible. I just remembered the bosses will hit you guaranteed as they're more puzzle based and thus no strategy can beat them damageless. Just leaves Super paper mario which should be relatively easy damageless, just "don't get hit" (and spam blocky blocks). Though a minimum damage run would still be interesting for the second set of PM games. Namely Color Splash.

Holy hell that fight against Bonetail was insane, I thought for sure you wouldn't be able to best him
Just surprised he even did it in the first place and as legitimately as possible (without danger mario or luck shenanigans). I thought he was just going in to get Fire drive and would peace out, but bro said he'd run a mile and did the whole marathon!
Playing Lying Coldly in the background as you explained using chill out on Bowser was a nice touch lmao
i wish i could have bin there for the live stream but work but i knew that before my day ended i had to watch this amazing video. so exited to see it and it was amazing man. love your work
I clicked this at midnight trying to find something to sleep to and the hello Jordan scared tf outta me
oh shit, a guy who sounds like uberdanger but actually makes content
I love the super macho man references
"Oh god it's the footnote" caught me off guard holy shit
It's always the Armored Harries that make a Challenge impossible or near unbeatable
Completely blown away with how you bodied Chapter 8 and bonetail. Next level strats, yo 💯
bro my name is jordan intro freaked me
Not only the rare Bomb Squad strat but the ULTRA RARE Hold Fast strat
Wow
"No I cannot get emotional now. There's..."
*Raymore and Flannigan Ad Begins*
Deep deals!
I've been playing TTYD since it released and I never knew about the wand thing. Amazing
i used veil in the pit of 100 trials on the giant bob-omb fights and just used their charging turns to appeal and use sweet feast as free healing. I know that dodging charged attacks is like, veils thing, but it felt satisfying to just get a free full heal and then just vwoop out of existance before the bombs exploded
long-time viewer! i dont usually leave comments, but the editing and pacing in this video was fun and perfect! it was a really fun watch both to have in the background and watch actively. i'd love to see more content like it in the future, and thank you for all of the awesome content you make 🙂
very much looking forward to seeing what you do in 2024!
Fatguy videos are always a... field trip of a rollercoaster...
"I don't think I need to explain the pit to anyone"
I can piece together why, but having never played Thousand Year Door or ever watched anything about it outside of this challenge run, even a brief explanation would've at least been nice.
The nerd emoji says, "But actually, some attacks aren't superguardable."
11:12 - underrated intro babe
I have never been more angry at myself than at “You rewound the video, didn’t you?”
Guilty as charged, dammit.
Ngl the cutaway at 14:37 slayed me 😂
My name is Jordan and this intro freaked me out. This is literally the first video I've seen from this channel.
If i dont see gold Fuzzy in this video im going to be so fucking mad
Mario: man I wish this door was really old
Thousand Year:
"AHH it's the footnote!" at 45:27 has to be my favorite comment in this video
Mario technecally took damage in Chapter 4! When Doofus took Mario's body you were dealing damage to MARIO'S body.
The super macho man voices & Earthbound music earned the sub GG's
Dude is looking sick and sexy in those glasses
-a fellow member of the glasses alliance
11:56 would make _such_ a good notification tone.
The 50 damage to the Shadow Queen was insane!
36:38 [BIG SHOT] really does fit this fight, huh?
Grubba telling Mario to eat shit caught me so off-guard
can't wait to finish, loving it so far! Fatguy is so cool, I really wish the Netherlands were real.
God, the Ukulele music for "Train..." had me giggling like an idiot 🤣
Now do the same again...
_...but this time you play on the Japanese port of it_
*_Good luck with Shadow Queen..._*
Fatguy is Paper Mario: the thousand year dork. And he is INCREDIBLE.
can't believe I got caught off-guard by my name being said in the beginning, in the most menacing tone possible
great stuff
As someone named Jordan, I am glad that I enjoyed the video!
I recognized every background music in the video. Great music taste xD
31:58 This actually made me cackle out loud. So pointless.
I got fucking Scared when this came on autoplay and all i hear is "HELLO JORDAN"
Next Challenge: Talk about Paper Mario online without taking damage.
Great music choices.
Still can't wait for the third game in the paper mario series to get made.
Super paper Mario no damage when, just kidding but for real great job
Legit you are my favorite youtuber and always get excited when you upload!
Veil and Outta Sight can’t beat the chad Bubble Shield Lite + Taunt
Bug Fable sweep
I saw what you had for your background after getting Double Dip. I don't know what it's from but I saw it.
Is that a copy of bug fables behind the green screen 👀 a man of culture
