He's talking to The World Elite

The World Elite are 1% who own 99% of the wealth and make us fight over the 1% of wealth that's left

The lyric was "The rich men north of Richmond". It is in reference to the politicians in Washington DC. Washington, DC is north of Richmond, Virginia.
The message is that the politicians sheer the workers from the top and freeloaders sheer them from the bottom. They are thus destroyed from both sides. The young men who put themselves six feet in the ground is referring to the twenty two military vets who commit suicide every day.

    • @derpyeh9107

They are not just referring to military vets ...although we own them more than anyone, but self deletion is rampant across our nation and young men see nothing but attacks from the main stream and decide this world isn't worth it for them.😢

    • @papaandnanahomestead1467
      @papaandnanahomestead1467 ปีที่แล้ว +14

The young men putting themselves six feet in the ground isnt about military vets at all. Im a vet and that is a very important issue. He is talking about how taxes are going to unfair welfare distribution for things that it shouldnt. And young men are working themselves so hard paying not earning enough and what they do earn. Much of that is going to taxes. This creates stress and leads to higher suicide rates in young men and older men. The whole theme to the song is about working class being craped on.

Thank you for your reaction. The fact that this song got over 14M views in the first seven days tells you that the message transcends age, color/race/ethnicity, religion, nationality, etc., and resonates with ordinary folk the world over. This should be mandatory listening for everyone in government, whether elected, appointed, or just employed. "The rich men north of Richmond" is a reference to politicians and “power players” in Washington DC.; Washington, DC is north of Richmond, Virginia, and probably to the financiers on Wall Street. However, politicians and the “elites” seem to be the same anywhere."I wish politicians would look out for miners and not just minors on an island (Eppstein Island) somewhere" is certainly an indictment of the elites who seem to get away with their crimes too often. I hope this anthem will wake up more people and get us ordinary folks to unite and take a stand before it's too late. God bless you.

some details…for those who do not know the miners vs island for minors reference, its about the richmen north of richmond (washington politicians) legislating away the coal industry and putting sooo many of the us middleclass “all the miners” (after all, Oliver’s from Virginia) out of work and then the island for “minors” is a reference to the convicted child (minors) sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein's private island, Little St. James, in the US Virgin Islands and the illegal activities involving minors occurring on his island. Epstein hosted many influential persons, on his island, including several US politicians, former president clinton just to name one!
This is a Blue Collar Anthem...A MIDDLECLASS ANTHEM, that UNIFIES all the colors that make that Blue: black, red, yellow, white and all tones and shades in between, ALL hard working, responsible men and women not only in the us but around the world! It's time WE recognize, embrace and promote our common ties: our love of Family, our concern for our Fellow man, our work-ethic, and our Demand for LIBERTY! rather than letting the richmen North of richmond (Virginia...aka washington politicians) divide us and in so doing destroy the middleclass! In a society where there is no middleclass, to help keep the ruling elite and their desires to have Absolute Power at bay, that society WILL collapse!

He has an intro video on his personal channel that he posted the day before the song was released. He tells some of his story. He was hoping the song would get "some traffic " lol. I guess it did.

Oliver really spoke to countless millions with this song. It’s *exactly* what, not only the States, but the whole world needed. Not too bad for a working class recovering alcoholic who just had something to say.
But yea, as others have mentioned, the rich men north of Richmond refers to everybody’s friends in DC, which is less than 100 miles from there.
And there are actually a few English bands that play country and Appalachian folk and pull it off well - the Stones, for one. Keith Richards has an incredible country voice.

    From the man himself:
It's been difficult as I browse through the 50,000+ messages and emails I've received in the last week. The stories that have been shared paint a brutally honest picture. Suicide, addiction, unemployment, anxiety and depression, hopelessness and the list goes on.
Im sitting in such a weird place in my life right now. I never wanted to be a full time musician, much less sit at the top of the iTunes charts. Draven from RadioWv and I filmed these tunes on my land with the hope that it may hit 300k views. I still don't quite believe what has went on since we uploaded that. It's just strange to me.
People in the music industry give me blank stares when I brush off 8 million dollar offers. I don't want 6 tour buses, 15 tractor trailers and a jet. I don't want to play stadium shows, I don't want to be in the spotlight. I wrote the music I wrote because I was suffering with mental health and depression. These songs have connected with millions of people on such a deep level because they're being sung by someone feeling the words in the very moment they were being sung. No editing, no agent, no bullshit. Just some idiot and his guitar. The style of music that we should have never gotten away from in the first place.
So that being said, I have never taken the time to tell you who I actually am. Here's a formal introduction:
My legal name is Christopher Anthony Lunsford. My grandfather was Oliver Anthony, and "Oliver Anthony Music" is a dedication not only to him, but 1930's Appalachia where he was born and raised. Dirt floors, seven kids, hard times. At this point, I'll gladly go by Oliver because everyone knows me as such. But my friends and family still call me Chris. You can decide for yourself, either is fine.
In 2010, I dropped out of high school at age 17. I have a GED from Spruce Pine, NC. I worked multiple plant jobs in Western NC, my last being at the paper mill in McDowell county. I worked 3rd shift, 6 days a week for $14.50 an hour in a living hell. In 2013, I had a bad fall at work and fractured my skull. It forced me to move back home to Virginia. Due to complications from the injury, it took me 6 months or so before I could work again.
From 2014 until just a few days ago, I've worked outside sales in the industrial manufacturing world. My job has taken me all over Virginia and into the Carolinas, getting to know tens of thousands of other blue collar workers on job sites and in factories. Ive spent all day, everyday, for the last 10 years hearing the same story. People are SO damn tired of being neglected, divided and manipulated.
In 2019, I paid $97,500 for the property and still owe about $60,000 on it. I am living in a 27' camper with a tarp on the roof that I got off of craigslist for $750.
There's nothing special about me. I'm not a good musician, I'm not a very good person. I've spent the last 5 years struggling with mental health and using alcohol to drown it. I am sad to see the world in the state it's in, with everyone fighting with each other. I have spent many nights feeling hopeless, that the greatest country on Earth is quickly fading away.
That being said, I HATE the way the Internet has divided all of us. The Internet is a parasite, that infects the minds of humans and has their way with them. Hours wasted, goals forgotten, loved ones sitting in houses with each other distracted all day by technology made by the hands of other poor souls in sweat shops in a foreign land.
When is enough, enough? When are we going to fight for what is right again? MILLIONS have died protecting the liberties we have. Freedom of speech is such a precious gift. Never in world history has the world had the freedom it currently does. Don't let them take it away from you.
Just like those once wandering in the desert, we have lost our way from God and have let false idols distract us and divide us. It's a damn shame.

This gent wrote a song that became an anthem for the working class worldwide in an absolutely short amount of time. From his video on his channel a few days after this went viral he is a very humble man. This song will be remembered for quite some time. The best part of it is he never called out either side of the American political isle, rather he called them all out. The politicians forget that in the structuring of the U.S. by the founding fathers the politicians work for the people but they have gotten so greedy that they have twisted that into thinking that we work for them. And "The Rich Men North of Richmond" is referencing Washington D.C. as it is only around 100 miles north of Richmond Virginia. Which ironically was also the dividing line during the American Civil War. Richmond being the Conferderate capital and D.C. being the Union's
P.S. Your observation of the whole stemming from Adam and Eve got me banned from a church when I was around 10 or so years old.

DC is north of Richmond. Our taxes and heath care deductions is 58% of paycheck in the USA. We go and see a doctor and we still pay for the office visit. $15.00 is normal per hour.

He is from South West Virginia. He is Scots-Irish as most of them are. It begins in Montgomery County VA and goes West into Kentucky. It is a totally different culture there. Where I am from it is very English culture derived along with German. I live one County away. It is very difficult to explain the Scots-Irish there. Their culture is that of Ulster Scots who fled North Ireland after being settled there 400 years ago. Both of my wives have been from out there. Wife two is a red head but is 80% English with some Irish/Scottish thrown in. My first wife was blond blues eyes and had the Scots-Irish facial features. Washington DC is 100 miles north of Richmond VA, South West VA is 200 miles West of Richmond. Richmond was formally Richmond-Manchester. It changed names about one 130 years ago.

It really reminds of an Irish lad out there belting out a chorus of one of the many great protest songs in their history that just hit home with the forgotten folk of the world.

Rich Men above Richmond is the US Government that sits in Washington DC, which is situated in Northern Virginia. He is talking about how they the Elites and the Politicians dont give a Sh** about the regular guy/girl. He took a stab at the epstein Island child trafficking and child trafficking in general and how they closed the coal mines and killed the jobs. then he took a stab at people who are on welfare that are milking the welfare system. Excellent song, speaks volumes. He has a really big set of cahones to speak about the establishment.

As others have already mentioned, this song is strictly about politicians, not "the rich" in general. It has nothing to do with corporations or anyone who is rich due to making an honest living or running a company. It's specifically about politicians who are rich due to being corrupt to one extent or another. Hence the two references in the title, rich men, and the area North of Richmond known as Washington D.C. Also, this is a great example of what Country music is all about. The genre is also known as "3 chords and the truth". It's all about the story, or the message in the song.

He's singing in the style of Appalachian Folk Music. Richmond, Virginia is the Capital of Virginia and NORTH of Richmond is WASHINGTON D.C. = his rich men are the elites, Politicians and Corporations. -- Loved your reaction, just luckily happened to come across your post. Love your take and your thoughts you find in Oliver's tune. The main thing I have found from watching reviews is no matter who WE are or WE we are from, this tune has a different meaning to each one of US = however, we all come to the same conclusion, things can NOT stay the way they are!

After watching the reaction and the conversation afterwards I must say that you are 100% well within your rights to feel and get pissed off… your feelings are a good indicator for how bad things have gotten… and when it comes to not being able to do anything about it… we’ll I must say YOU can do something about problems that seem out of your control as can every person that feels the way you do! You have an large audience of people that feels exactly how you do and support you… don’t ever just roll over and be contempt with how the world/country is… our ancestors fought and died for change throughout history and just because we are in a technological age that doesn’t mean the fight just stops… there are plenty of ways to fight the good fight all it takes is stepping up to the plate and figuring out how you will do it… I love the reaction and I love the channel… RAH from America 🇺🇸 🦅🌎⚓️

If you're not from USA, here's a few things to give you more context to the song....
    1. "Rich men north of Richmond" is referring to all the politicians in America's capitol Washington DC just an hour or so north of Richmond, Virginia. And the whole song is about how they're abusing their power and running this country into the ground
    2. 7:14 is so ridiculous - "Wish politicians would look out for miners" - referring to coal-miners or the blue-collar hard-working middle class who are the backbone of our society and work their tails off to barely survive.....then he flips Miners to Minors which means underage....."And not just Minors on an island somewhere" - referring American billionaire Epstein who was sexually trafficking minors/teenages to his private islands, who had connections to many American politicians and powerful people and dodged accusations for years.
