When a 50 year old song is still enjoyed by different generations, you know it was epic.
Absolutely
Right On !!!!✌
There is a reason certain bands just transcend... Lynyrd Skynyrd is one of those.
FACTS 💯👍
Especially when the song sounds as fresh today as it did when it came out, there's is no stopping the song from touching hearts.
This one brings me to tears. My mother had alzheimers and the last coherent thing she told me was " I've always been proud of you, do whatever makes YOU happy." Miss ya mom.
So Sorry for your Loss.🥺
@@tinapatterson5022 thank you
@@Seven50ml ❤
Same dude. I lost my mother unexpectedly a few years ago. Skynyrd was her favorite band and this song gets me tearing every time but I love it. Stay strong bro keep your head up 💪😤🤘.
@@xvsoulsocietyvx8470 thanks brother, same to you
The band had such a problem with people mispronouncing their name, they actually titled one of their albums "Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd". They named themselves after a teacher at their school, named "Leonard Skinner". He hated them, and treated them like shit for being long hairs, so for revenge they named themselves after him.
Not only that, but this song is from “Pronounced”
Lol
Lynyrd Skynyrd put out 5 albums in the early 70's before a 1977 plane crash ended it all. This song was written in about an hour by Gary Rossington and Ronnie Van Zandt. They had both just lost female family members that gave them life advice.
6 One More From The Road
"Is this country rock?"
Wow... awesome. That's exactly what Southern Rock is. It's great when someone can feel the music.
Nope it's called Southern Rock ....
@@MrAmartin8 um, yes...that's exactly what I said. 🤦
I'm old enough to have heard this on repeat over multiple stations when it was first released. At that time, I just like it as a Skynard song. As time went on, I became a parent and then a grand. Now the lyrics have taken on a whole different meaning. It's what I hope I have taught my kids & grands. And it can bring tears to my eyes. And now that kind of rock is referred to as Southern Rock.
Southern fried, I believe….
Beautiful Song. Skynyrd has so much more to offer. Gold Standard of Southern Rock. Thanks for the Reaction.
Southern Rock brought a whole new edge of rock n roll to America and holy smokes, it rocked our socks off. Good old southern boys standin' on the gas. Lord have mercy.
Truth and wisdom don’t age.
I lost a good friend around this time last year. This was his favorite song. A lot of the things you guys spoke on were the reasons he loved the song too. It's awesome to see you guys reacting to it in such a positive way. Rock on, and keep it simple. 🤘
This was my song at my sons wedding for the son and mother dance...love it!
This song always gets me in the feels too. It's such good good advice. I can always picture a mother sitting down with her son and telling him these things. Good advice for anyone.
After everything you guys said, then checking out the song "Cat's In The Cradle by Harry Chapin is an absolute must.
This is the song I picture playing at the beginning of the movie about my life.
You've got to introduce her to Freebird with one of the famous live versions. Either Oakland or Knebworth
“We just chat shit all of the time.” Just shot milk out of my nose! It is a Beautiful thing to see two people enjoy each other’s company so much. You show such interest and respect for each other’s opinions. Never stop “chatting shit.”
I recently had a dear friend pass away at 60, completely unexpected. It was upsetting as hell. I had no idea his family had done so, but they selected this song for his funeral. Boy did it hit hard.....but in a good way!
There was a lot of Country Music influence in Rock: Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker, Allman Brothers, and the Eagles--to mention a few. I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd in the 1974 and they were a blast. Came back on twice.
One of the most relatable songs I've ever heard - at least for me. Insanely talented band.
I guess this was something most southern moms told their sons because I remember hearing advice exactly like this from my mom and my grandma.
What a charming reaction. Nothing more to add as you pretty much both nailed it.
This should be their signature song. This should be one of the most played classic rock songs in history. It's so perfect.
Agreed100 I love it even more than freebird
Three guitars all playing the solo in the middle. Thank you for reviewing this great tune. I sang this at my Brother's memorial service because it was his favorite song. I'm not a great singer by any means but I did my best. I also love this song and have, ever since the album hit the record store in Tampa, FL when I was 15. Now I live in the hometown of L.Z., Jacksonville, FL. Everyone here is so, so proud of them! Me too! ❤️
From a Dave with kids who are now both in university, you guys just nailed it. Dave, it can pass you by before you even know what’s happened. We dropped our second off to university this fall and I wondered where the hell the time went, and whether I spent too much of it working too hard trying to support them. You guys totally nailed what I’ve been going through for the last month…. For the last 20 years…..
GOAT, Rip gary, ur all together now❤
This was released from debut Album (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd) 1973.
Mine and my late nephew's song....so beautiful. You will never go wrong with Skynard live Gold and Platinum!!! The original...
My friend and I went Lynyrd Skynyrd concert back in July with original singer, Ronnie Van Zandt's younger brother, Johnny doing the singing. Johnny regrouped LS 10 years after fateful day when in 1977, plane carrying the band crashed killing Ronnie and I think 3 other members plus the pilot. Last original member, Gary Rossington died early this year. As band played this classic, tribute to Gary Rossington by showing photos of him from early days to current. Current band called Shinedown does an excellent cover of this song. Interesting fact is Shinedown before they gotten big, they played this song at local Jacksonville (Lynyrd Skynyrd's Hometown), Florida's bar once owned by widow of Ronnie Van Zandt.
Simple Man was recorded in 1973 making 50th anniversary of this song.
My favorite line is be something you love and understand. I have all my life, which is essential to happiness and contentment.
Skynyrd is a Jacksonville Florida, Southern Rock Band from the 70's...got to see them in concert in 1974. The lead singer and a few of the band members died in a plane crash sometime in 1977. You're pronouncing it right Dave.
At 67 , i first heard this as a new song. Still great. Glad young people get to find them. Southern rock as good as it gets..began in JACKSONVILLE . Fl. Great band. Saw whats left of them 2 yrs ago along with METALLICA . Daytona speedway. Still sounded great .. soo many yrs ltr. Thats good music that last over 50 yrs!! Good for you. .. dan. JACKSONVILLE FL…
When speaking about a parent missing out on their child growing up because of working to provide a better life for their family, it reminded me of the Harry Chapin song "Cats In The Cradle". It'll hit you in the feels too. Ugly Kid Joe did a great cover of it, but I definitely recommend listening to the original first.
Love your reactions. Especially country and southern rock. We are the Appalachian people of Scots-Irish descent.
🤘👍☮️
Southern Rock is a mixture of Blues..Country and Rock.
Pull the lyrics up with out music and just read them
"Cat's in the Cradle" by Harry Chapin is about an absent dad
Dave I got my forty plus acres my man. My neighbor has 1100. Nobody near us. My driver was like a six hundred yards of the county road. Nobody on that road but us. Safe…no violence and quiet. Small town about ten miles away. Ninth generation American ….family came from Scotland. fifeshire.
This was an original southern fried rock band who contradicted all stereotypes. Example, anti gun - Saturday Night Special, from the south. But, nothing……. is more epic than their standoff with Neil Young. The inspiration for 3 of the greatest songs ever! Southern Man, Alabama and Sweet Home Alabama.
My mother taught me about the same it's because of her I've bled several times helping lost broken women
Lynyrd Skynyrd is simply Southern fried rock at it's finest.
Hell yeah!
Freebird live in Oakland 1977 three months before their plane crash! Fantastic video!
Yes definitely is a treasure 🌹🌹🌹🌹
'Southern Rock" would be the description.
I love this band and all of their music,
Thank you kindly for doing this reaction.
Lynyrd Skynyrd Lives On, generation after generation.
Written by 16 year olds in the mid seventies. One had lost a family member and another had lost a friend if I remember correctly. It is closed as Southern Rock.
Great reaction. Spot on with your interpretation. The lyrics are awesome, but I also love the music, especially the bass line.
Leonard Skinner was one of their teachers. He was a militaristic hardass who hated longhairs...so they named their band after him. Be careful teachers. KA-THWAP !!
Me and brother listened to this on repeat when our mom lost her 6 year long battle with cancer I was 19 still hard to listen 2 at 35
Lynyrd Skynyard made this freebird song in 1976 they named the band after a gym teacher in high school
There is a few other Bands you can look into Marshall Tucker to start with.
You are correct when you said Country Music was born out of Blue Grass and Blue Grass was born from Irish and Scouts people coming into this country.
Southern Rock is a blend of Country, Blues and Rock if you are a music lover I suggest watching a documentary titled Muscle Shaols ... This recording studio in Muscle Shoals Alabama recorded some of the greatest hits we hear... There will be some very familiar faces you will recognize like 1 of yours Mick Jagger to start....
yo glad to see you have your own channel too man. great song of course, one of the best.
Look at the album cover of Skynyrd's first album. It has the pronunciation of the band's name on the cover.
: )
If the end credits of a movie is the only place you've heard Free Bird then you have missed out. Watch their performance live in the Oakland Coleseum in July 1977. Subscribed.
My Son will be 31 soon & I’ve always dedicated this to him since he was a baby🥰♥️🎶
You guys get it . Beautiful ...
Shinedown is still an active band and still touring. Brent Smith is an amazing vocalist.
Their cover of Simple Man is great. Their OMV for Simple Man pays homage to Lynyrd Skynyrd.
I believe both bands share the same hometown area.
Ronnie Van Zant’s daughter was married to one of the members. Ronnie’s granddaughter is holding his picture in the video. There is a video on TH-cam of the granddaughter performing with Shinedown in 2019.
When listening to Skynyrd you have to look past the great music and listen closely to the lyrics. Ronnie had such a great way of expressing thoughts and feelings.
Leonard Skinner was Gary rossington's gym teacher, the band was sarcastically named after him
70's rock, still the best music. So many great bands and the stories in the songs are just better than we have today, imo🥴
I remember seeing in a documentary, Gary Rossington talking about how much they were influenced by the Beatles and Stones. It’s so interesting how that influence produces this form of music.
Thanks for this one, just listened to the song a few days back while unwinding, glad to see that you also feel the same of it.
Your a good man dave,
Nice reaction, lost my dad a 7 years ago, miss the man every day, cherish the times the best you can.
Enjoyed watching you 2 thanks again
Essential southern classic rock. Tuesdays Gone is my favorite and from Dazed and Confused
I do believe they have an album that shows you how to say their name.. LOL! Lynyrd Skynyrd (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd)
Yes, 70s band. Love your channel bloke, you too Ash!
Yeah, Dave, It's been my favorite song, (practically my theme song) for a very long time.
Watch the movie Muscle Shoals about the millions of songs recorded at the music studios, including Brits like The Rolling Stones, Steve Winword, Bono, etc. plus American artists.
I've always heard it pronounced as Lenard Skinard here in the States.
Dave - you are an inspiration to us metal-rock loving Dave’s! You have an amazing taste is music!
i am just like you, i have listen to this song for a long time and when i hear it i calm down and become relaxed. i have even tried to take the message of the song to heart to become a "simple" good man
wish i had a dollar for every time I've played this one. if you played in a cover band in the southeast back in the 80's-90's you knew all the Skynyrd tunes. or you didn't get called back for gigs lol.
thanks! this song will never get old to me!
In the seventies we used to call that rockabilly rock and roll with a little hillbilly😅😅😅❤❤❤
Call Me The Breeze, T for Texas, I Need You. Underrated but Amazing
An Amazing song with a perfect message. I wish I could've heard when it 1st came out, but my parents pretty much were adverse to 1970s rock.
I like the dynamic between you guys. Nice.
The band got their name from their high school gym teacher that they all hated bc he was no nonsense, hated rock music, and would get them in trouble bc of their long hair. His name was Leonard Skinner and they just misspelled his name lol
Beautiful song.
My mother son dance at his wedding. Lyrics were perfect.
Beautiful song. It brings back, " simplicity."
No Dave, you nailed it . Nobody here in the US pronounces it like Leonard (The pronunciation key is on the album cover for fucks sake. though I have no idea what an e with a half moon above it means). Lin erd...
How wasn’t I subscribed before now? Been an “Office Bloker” for years; I’ve been a ginger for life. I fixed the subscription issue so that was a start haha Had to let you know, we’re proud of all the hard work you’ve put into your multiple channels. Now I’m just waiting to see how good your cooking skills are getting, especially since you also can grow/raise a few yummy ingredients it sounds like! Anyway, see you at the Patreon for that family guy and the Office, eventually at some point too. Enjoy your Sunday evening, with the smarter half too, sir. 🎉 (I assume she’s scary smart Dave lol) tell her thank you; we really appreciate her carving out some of her limited free time for us here. ❤
Ideal listening for this song: eating a full American breakfast before going to a baseball game...
Timothy-the buoys
Hi Guys I like this song. Goid Luck with everything. FYI If you watched Supernatural the lead actor who played Dean in the show also sings this song. P.S Some of the other actors in the show also sing. .( Jensen Ackles).
One of my favorite songs. Thanks.
I love that song - still give the chills everytime I hear it.I actively choose not to be between a rock and a hard place to have time enough with my family. Probably also because I never had the ambition to rich the top of the piramide - that is not important to me.
Never was important for me either. I'm satisfied just living a modest life with my family that's comfortable.
I believe it is pronounced “lenurd skinurd”. I was a bastardization of the name of their gym teacher that they weren’t fond of in high school.
Excellent choice, excellent 🤘
Every time I see a couple watch this song I always notice the guys dig the music but the ladies pick up lyrics in a heartfelt way men can’t quite grasp like them !!!!!! !
I really enjoy your reactions! Nicely Done! I've become a subscriber! Keep rolling!
My folks worked their butts of to raise us kids and I have worked (and my wife has) weird shifts and hours to raise our kids. They were always the focus and we just did what we could.
I grew up listening to this band. They have had a interesting past. Our radio stations still plays this bands music
Shinedown does an awesome version of this song
What can you say. Yes. Truly yes.
She's got a good ear, the song is from that era, maybe not in it, but surely influenced by the era.
Devil's Rejects ended with FREE BIRD!
Love your reaction content!
I remember playing air guitar to Free Bird. This band had excellent musicians and singer.
Mama was spittin' facts
Great reaction. You can't go wrong with Skynyrd. I saw them in June 1977 at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia. This is such a meaningful song. I encourage you to check out Shinedown's version of this song. It's incredible. Thanks for the memory.
It's a gorgeous song. And I pronounce their name the same as you being British.
Great reaction
