In 1980 I was a freshman in high school watching this play out on the news and it was very nerve-wrackiing. Because, at this time, Iran's Leadership wanted to prove they were showing that the American Bully was weak and easy to stand up to. It didn't help that my dad was in the USAF and the base we were at were running alert combat and deployment drills during this time, in the event World War 3 broke out. My dad could not leave the house and had to be ready to go in the event the alert claxons went off on base.
Huh. Feels weird seeing a sponsor ad for something I actually use (though I got like a more basic sleep mask from them). Still love it though, and it kept me from having to mess with blackout curtains. Love watching you get little history lessons from Fat Electrician though, hope you can keep them up! Especially since he's started getting into things I already knew about and still manages to provide new info (like his latest video on Willis "Ching" Lee).
Radio frequencies have an interesting property; for any given power level, the lower the frequency, the further the signal will travel AND the more directional it becomes. Different "frequency bands" were defined based on the general properties and range. Advanced militaries (like the US) use MULTIPLE radio systems, each tuned to different "bands", to cover all the bases and remain in as much contact as possible.
Yes, as a US Navy Serviceman who served under Reagan, and other Presidents as well from 1984 to 2014, at the highest point of his US Naval Strategic Plan the US Navy had 600+ ships of various Combat and Non-Combat capabilities.... Sadly though the US Navy is no longer as large as it once was but now it's more focused on quality than quantity... though I do suspect, with the current events of the world, the US Navy will once again grown to a much larger amount of ships.
The 1936 Summer olympics was the first radio transmission with enough strength to leave the planet, and those radio waves are still bouncing around the cosmos today.
I never get tired of this story, but USS O'Bannon is my favorite video by The Fat Electrician. It's older, but it is the best three minutes on TH-cam that doesn't involve cats.
This was in 1988, and while there was a (pucker factor) there was also excitement, we were trained, primed, and ready to go. A lot of these sailors were ready to test their mettle in combat, especially the gunners mates. From my vantage point as port lookout l could see them jacking 3 foot shells and slapping each other on the ball and pointing at 3 Russian ships while they were getting supplies. Luckily the Captain was like no, no, thats not what we are here for.
Nic (The Fat Electrician) is effing brilliant. He has no bad or dull vids on his channel. Even the one rant about his wife buying single ply toilet paper (which should be a war crime) was seriously educational and hilarious. Dave knows this, but I say it anyway. 😀
Operations rooms is another amazing channel that has a really good detailed video with nice visuals that show exactly what happens on this event as well as many other historical military events and operations. Highly recommend them
Hey guys I just found your channel I'm the military veteran from United States I was in the US Coast guard I live in South Carolina I watch a lot of reaction videos and I really like your channel so far bad electrician has many hilarious and just the way he tell stories he's just for most people that just captivate you and makes you laugh and definitely go watch more of his videos cuz there's one about a guy who ate a whole stick of meth in the German army and went on a 250 mi crazy journey through the snow and didn't die he took a whole regimens worth of meth cuz that's what they were given the Germans and world war II his name's imo it's craziest story I've ever heard
Loved the reaction! Nic is funny AF, you should do one to his review of the USS Texas, the most gangster BB of WWII. Also, fun fact, the "Sammy B" FFG 58 was actually preceded by USS Samuel B. Roberts DE 413, aka the destroyer escort that fought like a battleship, at the Battle off Samar Island along with Fletcher class dd's Johnston, Heerman, and Hoel. Drachinifel's treatment of the story in his "Samar Island, odds? what are those?" Is absolutely hilarious.
I was deployed to the gulf the summer of 88. Our mission was to escort Kuwaiti tankers with US flags up and down the gulf. Was crazy during sand storms. The gulf gets rough. Being a QM I was on the bridge often. The best place to be in my opinion.
May I make one small suggestion to you folks. On several of Nic's videos he has extra content at the end of them. They are just as, if not funnier than the videos themselves. I always watch to the very end just for that.
You need to check out World War Tree 🌲 and Ramages Rampage both by the fat electrician. Really anything by him is awesome though, you can’t go wrong reacting to his content
They definitely had comms on the Iranian side. Amateur radio with a powerful enough antenna and good equipment can hit anywhere in the world. 100-200 miles is nothing for communications in 1988.
My grandpa had a cb base station and I believe it was a 1000 watt amp and on a clear day he said he could reach Australia, so on open water with no obstructions a cb type radio would easily reach wherever you wanted, I'm pretty sure even civilian ships and boats back then had ship to shore radios
BTW that's my favorite shirt! I got it extra large so I can sleep in it during the summer. It so well made, so soft and it's worth it. Just, wash it inside out to protect the designs... No, this isn't an advertisement, I just love his merch!
🤣Brandon Herrera and The Fat Electrician walked into a bar in Texas with an AT4 Anti-Tank weapon and no one said anything to them.. Granted the bar knew that they were bringing it for a music video shoot, but no one else did. And no one said anything.
“What sort of distances” even during WW1 everyone had radios that could bounce signals off the ionosphere… civilians in the USA could receive random chatter from the opposite side of the planet. It’s safe to assume Iranian Navy had better radios than civilians decades ago. US ship and Iranian ship were able to radio each other from over 15 miles (24+km) away, at least. So somewhere between 15 miles/all across globe is everyone’s radio range.

i would lose my mind trying to sleep with that thing on my head. I can't even do VR, since I hate wearing things on my face so much. I stopped buying sunglasses because I realized that I was spending $200-$250 on something that I would wear two or three times, and then forget about.
love you guys! that was fun. thank you
the whole time he's telling the story I was picturing the Russian ship just following them just being paparazi in the middle of a battle 😂
TFE's delivery of a story is second to none - he's amazing.
I Love how she tries to hide that smile
This my friends is perfect pausing the video to add insight and actually React to what you're watching, this was one major criticism I had with the office blokes rarely adding anything to the video the possibilities are endless the fat electrician videos his second channel the fat files all have a gold mine a funny content Nick is his name he used to be an army combat medic who drove an ambulance but is an actual electrician now going to school to teach history I have followed the office blokes for a long time now and always loved you adding insight to the videos glad to see you guys sponsor keep up the great work like this and you'll do great my friend happy to see you doing well Dave best wishes from North Carolina
Your not fat, your big boned. -Cartman's Mom.
He was a medic in the US Army. Now, as a civilian, he's an electrician and he's thicker than we was in the Army
The Fat Electrician is such a great channel. Need a collab between him and MrBallen.
You might want to check out his video on the British unknown hero Sir Percy "hobo" Hobart
"Yeah. it's definitely gonna sink" is understating it. The frigate was halfway to the bottom of the Gulf.
I just found your page with this video (gotta love TFE) but girl. Your reactions mirrored mine and I love it.
Iran found out first hand what FAFO stands for.
We were in the med during this.USN
You should do some pitch meetings
You're the Ginger Electrician
I would genuinely try one of those masks.
I never get tired of this story, but USS O'Bannon is my favorite video by The Fat Electrician.
It's older, but it is the best three minutes on TH-cam that doesn't involve cats.
Notice on the decks of our ships it says "E=MC2". " FOR EVERY ACTION THERE IS A GREATER OR EQUAL REACTION!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Highly recommend them
"Proportional" responses are my favorite.
I didn't know Iran had a Navy until this video! I was 15 in 1980. The Fat Electrician is a great story teller and he's hilarious!
Donut operator demolition ranch and brandon Herrera are all friends
I'm our defense. Those boats are expensive.
I'M thinking of the naughty uses for that "blackout" sleep wear item. 😁
Hey good on you for having a sponsor
Don't forget this is only 2yrs since the Top Gun movie. Soooooo ya Navy Pilots are ready to play
The young lady's reactions are priceless.
I was deployed to the gulf the summer of 88. Our mission was to escort Kuwaiti tankers with US flags up and down the gulf. Was crazy during sand storms. The gulf gets rough. Being a QM I was on the bridge often. The best place to be in my opinion.
Manta Sleep masks are legitimately great.
World War Tree, operation Paul Bunyan.
Fat Electrician is a Veteran, one of the world's best storytellers, and a goldmine, for review channels.
I think they're trying to speak to me...
lol, did she say "redonkulous" ??? i didnt think anyone else really said that! XD
In case you are curious, the distance from Dubai to Maine by sea is over 13k miles around the tip of Africa
And a little less than half that distance through the canal and Mediterranean
My grandpa had a cb base station and I believe it was a 1000 watt amp and on a clear day he said he could reach Australia, so on open water with no obstructions a cb type radio would easily reach wherever you wanted, I'm pretty sure even civilian ships and boats back then had ship to shore radios
i laughed so hard at this
BTW that's my favorite shirt!
Anybody notice the "E=mc2" on the deck of the Air Craft Carrier??... 😐😊😂🤣🤣☠️
I loved your reactions and comments to "The Fat Electrition"❤❤❤❤
“What sort of distances” even during WW1 everyone had radios that could bounce signals off the ionosphere… civilians in the USA could receive random chatter from the opposite side of the planet. It’s safe to assume Iranian Navy had better radios than civilians decades ago. US ship and Iranian ship were able to radio each other from over 15 miles (24+km) away, at least. So somewhere between 15 miles/all across globe is everyone’s radio range.
Y'all are lovely. Love to see more Fat electrician content.
And the ironic part is the F4 phantom that the Iranians were using was originally an American aircraft we used them in Vietnam for close air support
