  • In today's video, Nick is going to determine whether the original paint of this 1998 Chevy S10 can be restored or not. Years of harsh elements and lack of paint protection have scorched and damaged the paintwork, leaving a dull finish. Watch as we walk through the steps to achieve the best finish. After washing the vehicle, decontaminate the pores of the paint using the appropriate clay bar before polishing the clear coat. Micro-abrasives refine scratches and swirls to reveal fresh clear coat, leaving a mirror gloss. After desired level of shine has been reached it is crucial to protect the paintwork from fallout by applying a ceramic coating, glaze, sealant and/or wax.

I love your products, and have come to know what products will get me the results I'm aiming for. I'll tell you one thing, the V38 is the best finishing polish hands down. Generally I'd do a chemical decon first... clay will damage the paint. Disgusting clay will damage the paint even more. By removing contaminants with an iron remover, acid, whatever the product, you're limiting the damage to the paint that will come from claying. Limiting because it will still damage.
    For those who don't know, any contact is bad contact. Clay with extreme lubrication will still add micro marring. With a 20 year old clearcoat, though you will be polishing and protecting it afterwards, you want to cause the least amount of damage so you have more clear to work with.
    Nice video though guys!
    Salutations from Montreal, Canada.

    @CG what kind of polish/wax do you guys recommend? I have a 2019 RAV4 in which I never used any clay. Do you guys recommend the VSS that you guys carry or your line of V34 through V38.

    • @ChemicalGuys
      @ChemicalGuys  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! If the paint has light to moderate scratches or swirls then VSS would be a great one step solution. If the scratches are much deeper or have heavier amount of swirls then that's when the V-line might be a better option since you can go more aggressive if necessary.

    1. We first sort those deep scratches (preparation,sanding, painting, polishing), then do the full paint correction of whole car...
    2. We do painting of deep scratches mid way of full paint correction... (after wash...iron and tar decontamination and clay bar decontamination)
    3. We do all the steps of paint correction and before applying ceramic coating we focus on sorting those big deep scratches

      In most cases it would be best to remove old layers before applying new ones unless it is a routine detail where wax was recently applied.

I see you never used it. Is that because you used the clean slate as a strip wash. Also you used Clean slate in the bucket and Foam Cannon correct.

    Can you clay with foam? Instead of lub

    • @henanren
      @henanren 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Many of the businesses that sell clay bars also sell detail sprays so they encourage you to use the sprays. I use car wash soap to clay customers' cars and it works just as well although it may cause the clay bar to degrade quicker. I've had good luck with mothers speed clay 2.0, so check that out if you want claying to be easier.
