- This go around we have an 03 Duramax 2500HD. The customer already sand blasted the frame so it went much smoother than usual!

Glad I saw this video. About to do the shackle mounts on mine. I was going to cut a x in the head of the rivet and air hammer them out. Might just torch them out now. Looks like it will be much easier. 👍
My round one was rusty on bottom like that one but i just cut out the bad part took some thic walled exhaust pipe and welded it in. Because rest of it was good shape. 9:46

Thanks for the super awesome videos. I am getting ready to replace my 2001 2500hd spare tire cross member. But i noticed that my frame rail is pretty rusted in between the two cross members, right where the frame gusset is for the axle bump stop. Do they make repair kit for that part of the frame? Or How would you suggest that repair? I was thinking about having a 3/16" plate, 8" x 16" welded on the outside of the frame.

Very happy to come across your videos. Just bought an 01 gmc 2500hd crew/long box for what I think is a good deal, 279k and paid 5800$. Used market is super thin here in Eastern Canada and thinner for good trucks. I need to replace the tank brace and I'm a welder by trade, so this looks do able myself. I was wondering where I can order that kit from that you welded in( the tank one with the shock and exhaust hanger). Thanks, love your videos.
I got an early 05 duramax that is absolutely rusted out... thanks northeast salt😅, I have a funny feeling once I dig into it i'll have to do this. Got it for $3500 it is an LLY so I may have to start a channel and shout you out once I do this 🤣... these videos have been life saving, been working on my gasser 2500 for a bit... started with the rear diff then the frame. Sadly the gasser isnt even worth reselling so I'll work it till it is beyond repair 🤣

Where did you purchase the rear crossmember
How much does a job like this cost? I am debating on whether I want to do this myself and save money (I’m a welder) or have somebody do this for me. I bought my truck (2005 Silverado 1500 reg cab long bed 4.3l w 5 sp man and 4x4) and for $2k and it has bust cab mount brackets in the rear and needs a lot of rust repair work.

When you put that long brace in did it come with the braces where you connect the shocks? Or did you put new ones?
It comes with the shock mounts.

Love your video. SO I have a 1500HD, can I add the 2500 rear brace? Is it worth it to do that? I use it to tow a car hauler, but not a lot.
The 1500hd Frame is smaller than the 2500hd. The brace from the 2500 won’t fit.

Why don’t you do the frame, on one side it look bad or rusted.
Should invest in some kindof camera holder with a heavy duty magnet, could've stuck the camera on the rear of the cab facing the bed, we could've seen everything and camera would've been out the way

Can you install a 8' bed on the 6'.6" frame without any modifications?

No ? Does that mean it cannot be done ? Does no mean I have to extend frame with extension kit or other ? Is it extended behind the rear axle or in front of it? Have you done or are aware of a video on this procedure ? Thank You, John
@@johncranley6508 Hey John. The frames are different. The 8' bed has a longer frame, Different rear axle placement, fuel tank placement, and a host of other things including a longer wiring harness. Converting to an 8' bed would be a nightmare unless you can get a frame and swap your cab and drivetrain into it.
@@MorFabIndustries I actually have a 3500 dually 2wd cargo van that I bought solely for the cargo box. It has a 350 with only 32k of mileage and I am selling the motor and other salvageable parts, leaving me a frame, dual axle, gas tank, drive shaft, and other components. The van cab is short and I'm not sure it can be used? Obviously, wheel base length and length of truck extended cab will be crucial. Is there anywhere I can find out if it can be used and is it worth the time and effort? I would have to install duramax 6.6 L front drive axle etc. can it even be done?? John

OH, and how do you feel about POR 15 on the frame to make it last from the North East Ohio winters.
Por15 is great provided the metal is prepped properly.
Thank you. Is there anything else you suggest. I want to get 10 more years from the truck. Chassis Saver? POR 15? I was gonna use an Eastwood stripper and get the frame as clean as I can.
A wire brush, and a good cleaning with soap and water. Then dry it and use por-15 metal ready and follow all the steps. You will have amazing results and it will last quite some time.
