I remember in one of your old videos where your son didn’t want to help yet and you said that he’ll be in there wanting to helping you one day and now look at him! He did great helping out!!
That’s so true I forgot about that
Hey been watching ya for a long time! Just now finally actually making a TH-cam account. Great knowledge and content! Pretty cool you live in Michigan as I do as well.
That’s the best part about being a dad.
Hello Josh. Let's see what's under the truck bed. There is a hole in a cross member. You're teaching your son what to do. I like the 2020 front end of the new truck.
Thanks 👍
That frame is pretty good honestly. Obviously if you live in Florida it's terrible, but we all don't have the privelage of having vehicles that are rust free and won't rust. I'm part of the rusted frame community lol
That koooo teach them young he will be exactly like dad
I just did the two fuel tank crossmembers last weekend. fun project. I’m glad my shock is actually attached now 🤣. i’m glad the rest of the frame didn’t look anything like those crossmembers.
2018 front end. I guess I am partial, looks exactly like my truck!
2020+ on the front end!!!
We are fixing a 2015 Chevy 2500. Had to replace the rockers, cab corners, and put a rust free bed on it In in eastern Ohio. Also use products from PSC undercoating in a can. Love you channel brother
Looking great! Nice work that was a ton to do in one video thank you for sharing your knowledge and info...great to see you and your son wrenching on the new build!
Josh the whole frame looks better than mine. Im struggling to keep mine alive. Pretty much have to because its my only rig
Love the videos Josh! I have an 05 that I’m doing a solid axle swap using a super 60 front axle aiming to do it this winter! I think you should change it up maybe a little and do an 01-02 HD front end on it, regardless I look forward to seeing this build! Thanks for your service as well, im a currently a Seabee at Port Hueneme.
Thanks for your service as well brother
being up here in Canada my truck looks identical this to this one. i just don't have a garage where im able to spend the time to restore it like this, but this will be my guide in the future! keep up the good work!
To be honest, I would for sure replace that cross member, it’s better in the long run, it’s pretty rotted. Love your videos man
Love these revivals. You have me scrolling for another cheap truck to do myself. I cannot wait to see the progress!
It’s just so expensive 😂👍
I know it 😂 I’ve done a LB7 and it hurt bad! I think I’m going to look for another 88-98 Chevy 3/4 or 1 ton gasser so it scratches the itch at a lower price point at least
For future purposes I’ve seen sand blasting kits for a pressure washer that’s shoot sand through with water for no dust and works really well for relatively cheap
I have one and used it once, stuff gets surface rust as soon as it dries and you have to come back with the wire wheel or flap disk. Really just adding to your workload
Definitely like the gmc front end better than the chevy front end by far
2020 plus looks pretty good
You should of saved all that rust scaling and weighed it. That weight is the metal that is now not reinforcing your frame. 👍🏻
A needle scaler would be your best friend with that one
Been making sure to watch right away once notified!!
Hope youtube world is staying good!
So far so good! Thanks
I have a truck just like this one. We use lots of salt in Winnipeg too. Two years ago I had the rust fixed. New front fenders, cab corners, rockers and repairs to the box .
I like the 2020 front end better
Josh on my LMM I put the Mishimoto transmission cooler in it. It mounted just below the factory transmission cooler so it still setting in its original place. I was considering hooking the two together for extra cooling of the transmission cooler. But should you try this and it works I'm right their with ya on help cooling the fuel down. In the summer time driving a semi, you couldn't put you hand on the tank due to the heated fuel returned back to the tank.
Great info thanks for the input
I like the newer GMC front end.
I also live in Michigan and have an LML. I am curious to see what the PPG cooler does.🤔
Nice job dude!!! Love frame restoration videos. Especially on older diesel trucks! Another pre emission Duramax saved!!! Thx man!!!!
😎
Frame came out great. I’m on round 2 on my 02 1500HD. First was done 5yrs ago with por15. Looked great at first but didn’t hold up. Well after a original cross member went bad I stripped it all back down and replaced 3 crossmembers, leaf spring hangers and shackles and unfortunately the leaf springs as well bc 1 broke when removing it. But I used corraseal first then the rustoleum tractor paint. It looks great and I’m hoping it last a little longer this time. I wish I could do what you did to the red giveaway truck a few years ago and strip everything down then rebuilding from ground up.
Glad to see you back 🎉
looking forward to the fuel cooler testing, been playing around with the idea of a secondary fuel cooler/a fuel cooler fan.
Good work saving a good platform for years to come.
Awesome video Josh 👍🏻
Just a side note express vans use the same cross member
I just bought a rusty LBZ off of marketplace and planning on doing a similar restoration. Thanks for the videos Josh, I'll be following along for ideas and examples.
Thanks
Omg the end was great & hear the wifey, in the background.
You should try using a needle scaler to clean your frame up. I live in Mi. As well . Dealing with that rust seems like a never ending battle . Lol. Great video !!
Thanks 🙏
I did the same kinda frame resto. But the back was rotted and welded in new pieces on the bottom and made a support where the spare tire was. I learned to always put a blanket over the rear window when the grinder is out. Even when I thought I could risk it. I lost lol. I put pits in the window
Wtg Matthew helping dad !!!
Man Josh I gotta give you props we don't have rust here in socal as you know I bought my first Duramax last year 08 lmm it's mint the frame still looks brand new not kidding that truck would be in the junkyard here I paid $_30,000 for it the truck is like brand new I wouldn't take less than $35,000 for it great channel love the content thanks
Thanks Ed
Great project 👍
Nice clean up💪🏽
Completely replaced my crossmember last winter on my LBZ. It had a big hole in it also
Looking good Josh. I’ve been looking for a decent priced lbz. Would like to do the same thing.
Bruh…… they make a siphon fed sandblaster that fits on the end of your pressure sprayer. Found it after I did my frame ( That’s always how it works) ….. put on a rain suit….boots … pull the trigger. Works pretty good. Worth checking out. 👍
Thanks for the tip
Looks good
Looks good, i used the can stuff before, but it was professional version of it and it worked good. But i noticed the cheaper can peeled off and sprayed like a brown color.
Thanks brother good hearing from you
It looks good
Did you check the HD crossmember? They like to rot against the frame..I just replaced the fuel cross on mine.
I live in Michigan as well my 2003 lb7 had the same cross member replaced
I would cut the bad chunk out, if it’s in straight part of the cross member. Then weld in a new piece of pipe
I’m currently doing all the rear crossmembers on my 04 1500, I also gotta fix some rust on my rear cab mounts on the body side an they give ya zero room to work
Looking fwd to the next videos in the series.
Thanks!
Oh I’m doing that trans cooler/ fuel cooler!!!
I like the 2018 front look
Great video, hey I'm looking for a 07-14 gmc 2500hd 8' bed. Was hoping you might have connections somewhere. Thanks
man when you paint your frames use john deere bliss black it’s amazing
Thanks
What have you had the best luck with? I am very very picky when it comes to prep and have had better luck with other things than POR15 so I have given up on it. What products are you using?
2021+ front end fo sho
Both are cool
What primer and black spray are you using? Need to get mine done on my 06 mega cab this weekend thank you! 🙏
Thanks! It’s high gloss black rustoleum
And I’m a journeyman climber in the ibew union local 17 in Michigan, on our off season rn back home in Fl, bought my mega cab in Grand Rapids for $6000 cash!! Clean title n all, it’s a 2006 dodge ram 3500 Mega cab Single rear wheel 4wd 5.9 all stock everything, tan interior not the grey interior, heated leather tan seats, sunroof, dual zone climate controls n I love it!!! You inspired me to get this truck actually lol from buying trucks that need some love and turning them into bad ass rigs I had to get this one. It needs a bed from the rust other than that it’s in damn great condition. Frame needs some love but it’s not bad no holes or major flaking. It’s that dark tan metallic color oem paint I’ve put 20k miles on it traveling from Michigan to Minnesota for different contracts then drove her all the way home. Getting her some much needed attention while I’m off n doing it with my son he loves it as much as I do lol 😅couldn’t have found this truck without you n your channel, everyone is overpaying for these trucks when we can go buy them cash 10k or less and put a few grand into them if that n make them just as nice. Wifemax n your other trucks have way more in them but I’m js ya know lol 🤷♂️
@@TruckMasterand 10/4 getting some cans of it tomorrow!
@@TruckMasterthanks man!
Its wild that fuel is used to cool the FICM.
I would recommend to spray woolwax on your trucks and car and it stops the rust and you only have to spray it on every 2 years it will save your vehicle
Ok
Are you going to do a video on repairing the jumped timing engine? Hope so. I think my 07 has that issue. I got a water in fuel message, then it started missing. Wanted to get it down out of the mountains so I kept driving it about five miles to get it home. Now it won't start, or even fire. Already drained the fuel and added fresh. Anyway, I think it would be cool to watch someone check the timing on a 6.6 duromax.
I’m not sure yet I might play it by ear
Yes sirrr
Where about in Michigan is Mr TruckMaster? Heard area code “313” in a previous vid. Which is my old area code
Oxford Mi here.
Duramax fan myself - love the channel.
Best wishes to 2024!
Don’t patch it just do it right the first time and replace it. I was always told do it right so you only have to do it once.
I would weld the cross member. It will not be seen and it will be stronger than it originally was.
There are better ways to treat a rusty frame without all of that work. I use "Rust Bullet." It encapsulates, purges any air and moisture, and doesn't allow the rust to continue. Another option is "Rust Guy." It actually chemically changes the rust into a protective coating.
Wish I had your knowledge. I just found out i have a cracked water jacket in my LLY. Truck is amazing but now this. Not sure what to do because $ is very limited on a Cops income. Have so many engine mods an upgrades an now this. Hope you have better luck than me Josh
Wow! That’s a true “ rust bucket”. That cross member needs to be changed for sure. Good LUCK
🔥 RANCH HAND PLEASE
That would be cool
Looks good maybe the key way?
He used a trans cooler as his fuel cooler didn’t think something like that was possible
Patch that crossmember hole.
Woul you donate that bed to me? Lol its a million times better than mine.
I’ve got a hood from an 06 Silverado HD in pewter. Im parting the truck out for another project and you can have it. I’m north of Saginaw let me know if you want it. Has a little rust but overall in decent shape.
Can you email me? joshua.albrecht2@gmail.com thanks 🙏
@@TruckMastersent
I'm surprised it was just the cross-member since they usually rot out in the drop section of the frame at the front of the fuel tank
I was wondering if there's a way I can get ahold of you offline I have a few ideas that I did on my LLY that boosted MPG also
Iiked my 2019 but now i like my 2023 lol
Where I’m from that’s a solid truck you should see some of the stuff I have worked on it would blow your mind
I wouldn’t be shocked I’ve worked on way worse
not sure what undercoating product you are referencing but we use undercoat here in nh i am actually a installer of it and we have no moisture trapping issues. 80 percent of vehicles around me get it coated every year
It’s hard to believe, I’ve seen 100’s of trucks come through the shop with trapped rust on the frames it’s a shame
i had a 6.4 power stroke and ford had did the fuel cooling system and i got terrible fuel mileage
Don't waste your time and money with a fuel cooler. Your cp4 is compressing the fuel to 35000psi and the injectors are releasing it at close to a vapor state. Precooling by a few degrees is going to yield no results. If that was the case, driving in the winter would double your power and economy.
I think both those GMC front ends look extra af. Can we make it any harder to see over the hood?
2018 for sure
Who's 2020, is it? Like where you going with the new build.
It’s a buddy’s truck im working on
@@TruckMaster that's an awesome looking truck. Upgrades?
If those factory flare are in good shape I would take them......
Will it be easier to used the old frame wife max
I sold it a while ago and im kicking myself for it
Which frame was worst between this truck and the Wifemax 🤔🤔🤔
They were about the same
I have 2005 chevy slverado 2500hd im repairing the front end on myself
How would you go about fixing the bubbled out piece inside the frame above the bump stops? My frame is clean other than both of those and my spare tire carrier. I'm about to just buy another frame and film the build for TH-cam.
You can drill it out and weld plates
@TruckMaster I never thought about that, i'll keep that in mind! Keep up the awesome content man, I'm looking forward to seeing how your new lb7 turns out!
The bunp stops in the c Channel bulge out because of rust starting in between the frame and the bump stops. I torched snd cut mine out. You don't need them if you have a lift.
@lebro6253 that's not the part I'm talking about. The part I'm talking about was put there from the factory
@lebro6253 I would post a Pic of what I'm talking about but it won't let me. If you look on the inside frame rail about the bump stop you'll see a piece that's bubbled out. It's skinnier at the top and gets wider at the bottom. That part on mine is rusted out
Safe t caps is your friend for crossmembers
2022 front end is better
Do you want to replace my cross members for me.... Lol
Yes 👍
@@TruckMaster how can I reach you?
How much did this truck cost? 5k? Fun project!!
You should put a flatbed on it!
Yes 👍
I have a rust free 8ft bed 14-18 body style in upstate ny $1350
At 9:40 sec let's talk about your walk through the non existing frame .....
How much over spray on the white car next to you? lol
😂 none that I seen
2019
Josh how often do people clean the fuel cooler when they was there trucks cause on the friend of yours that had the truck shut off on him while towing a camper trailer the cooler looked plugged up in the cooling fins the ppe transmission cooler looks two times thicker than the stock fuel cooler and about the same surface area when you do the test loop the loop has to be the same road for 12on 2 separate days the temperature has to be within plus or minus 1 degree if the temp is 80 degrees the first day the second day it can be 79 or 81 degrees the humidity has to be the same or plus or minus a percentage point and using the same fuel pump at the gas station and weighing the truck if it’s the 2018 Denali your doing this on if stock is 14 mpg and you get 24 mpg that’s a extra 360 miles per tank bringing the range to 864 miles per tank that’s a 35-40 percent increase in fuel economy then for curiosity if you put new injectors in and gain an extra 5 percent you could see 900 miles per tank
If I see results like that this would be a big deal 👍
@@TruckMaster for 120 miles 60 miles each way
Ppl talk shit about California, but at least our vehicles don’t turn to rust like that. That’s crazy
