- Replacing the rotten upper rear shock mounts on a 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500. The bed was removed to allow room For the install. The replacement mounts were purchased from eBay. The 2x4 is used to recreate the proper shock angle. After the shock mount were installed the frame was sandblasted and coated with chassis saver.

i plan on replacing both the cross members the shocks mount too on my 2000 Sierra, glad I found this video as i will need to replace the shock mounts as well
Nice work, I put rear shocks in today and yea, it's paper thin.Removing the bed is the only way to go.

I got a 2002 Chevy Silverado 2 by 4 both cross members are gone I got to replace both of them that's the way to do it Wilderness new tabs on that's not going to last the cross members will rot out next and you'll be alright we'll be worse off than he was
Great vid, but my bed is rusted on and difficult to remove. Does anyone make a bolt-on shock mount, and then I could just run a couple of small MIG beads on the underside, where it's easy to weld????????????

Lincoln Electric K2278-1 Handy Core, was this used to weld the brackets?
so apparently a 2001 2500HD has a different frame assembly for the driverside rear mount. it's not tubular... it's more channel. hopefully the new bracket will still work

Planning on doing this on my old Jeep xj. Was gonna use a small personal welder that can weld up to only 3/16” steel and uses reverse polarity and a max of 120V… do you think this will be suitable to get the job done? Or should I pay to have a guy with a more expensive welder do it?
Edit: all I need is a decent weld I only do light to moderate off-roading
I used a 120v welder and it works fine you should be alright. Grind the edges of the bracket to a to a point to allow the 120 welder to get better penetration

Can their be done with the lower mounting brackets?
Yes this can be done on the lower mount. It’s a different bracket of course but should be much easer because you don’t have to remove the bed

It all depends on how much rot there is and they most likely will have to remove the bed so probably not cheap

our 2006 isn't, it's straight, we were wondering the same thing....that truck had an aluminum driveshaft...so made me think it was a Duramax, but the muffler was different, so confused as you are
@@mikekojima4935 i have a 2002 2500hd. One owner clean title. Never been abused. I have a 4 inch lift. The lift really shows the angle. GM did alot of weird things 99 - 06. These years GM put more money into product development then any other dealership ever had. If you include inflation it still is.

It does have to be perfect. The shock will bottom out before the truck's axles if the shock mount is too low. The shock is not intended to take the bottoming out on this vehicle as there are separate external bump stops between the frame and axle
