      Ya the knife is not great, interesting about the pliers. Obviously I mine didn’t, and why I wanted to do testing with it, but that is also why I emphasized light duty use. 👍

      @maxlvledc in your opinion is it better to go this route with a more proven name like Gerber or 1 of the many wave clones ? Maybe a idea for an video? I know a few of these as well as a multiforce .

      For me the pliers are really good. And just because a few people said it was broken, that doesn't count for me. Who knows what they used the tongs for. It's not a bolt cutter. with the wrong use I break every pair of pliers

    Good review! I keep one in my desk at work and another in a kit. I’ve kept one in my my pickup for things like opening packages and such, and it was great for that. They have always passed the coat hanger test with ease for me. I agree with your criticisms, and agree that it’s best to use one of these for lighter duty.

    Home Depot has it highlighted in store as of now as $29.97, but recently reduced from $39.97. That makes Home Depot currently in line with Amazon prices. I remember when I grabbed Leatherman wingman's for $25 on clearance from Menards when they got rid of all their leatherman's and replaced them with Gerber's a few years back. It's sad to see how much everything has inflated.

    • @maurolorenzotongco5521
      @maurolorenzotongco5521 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In the case of the Wingman/Sidekick, I think Leatherman raised the prices to make room for its other lower-tier pocket tools. Sad though, US$35-40 for the Wingman/Sidekick is fair for the toolset and the fit and finish but certainly not US$65+ as it is now.

    I removed the blade on mine and filled in the gap with washers. I also dulled the awl a little just to be safe. It is now my TSA compliant multi-tool. I’ve only been through two airports with it but made it through both checkpoints. They did have to inspect it in Indy but I got a quick thumbs up. I converted 3D philips into bit holder with magnetic holder (square-hex adapter with magnet). Some poxipol and it work as a dream ❤️
    Cons:
    - knife - should have better grind for this size
    - scissors - needed some work on them to cut paracord for example.
    What is good?
    - can opener - for me is the most wanted tool in multitool
    - cutters can cut 3mm nail 🙆‍♂️ (I do a test for myself)
    - locking mechanism is easy to operate
    - 3D philips

    Good review. I'm actually looking for a budget yet full size multi tool for my travels. It does make a difference if the customs officer or police confiscate your 45 or 120 dollar multi tool maybe just because they feel like it. This might be the right tool for this. Btw. You did use the can opener the wrong way. It's supposed to go in a forward motion and not backwards.

    I have been carrying one of these Suspension NXT's on a daily basis for about 10 months and I'm pretty convinced that it's the best bang for the buck out there. I have other Gerber's and a few Leatherman's and this seems to be the best overall in terms of price, form and function. Perfect for pocket carry due to the light weight and the large clip. My only major criticism is that it will occasionally open up in my pocket. It can be annoying but it's not a deal breaker. A locking mechanism would be a very useful addition. If I could also just add one tool, it would be a saw blade but it's not important.

    Any $10 multitool would be ultimately useful, but that's one area where I do have a minimum that I won't go below. I'd say $30 is an ideal starting point. I have a Leatherman Surge 2nd Edition that I paid about $70 for. I can't believe what they're selling for now. Worth it? They are the best, but $130 for a MT is steep. I picked up the suspension NXT at home depot a few months ago. Much like beer, I've never met a multi tool I didn't like. The NXT is no exception. It looks like it should be flimsy, but it isn't. I can squeeze the crap out of the pliers and the handles hardly flex. A lot of people complained about the "splay" of the handles, but it doesn't bother me. I can get a good grip. My hands aren't that big.
    I would have preferred a plain edge blade. I never cared for combination blades. I could do without the can opener/bottle opener. Maybe 40 or 50 years ago it would have been a useful feature. I can't remember the last time I needed a bottle opener and most canned food has perforated lids anymore.
    Mine also has a loose philips bit. I tried tightening the torx screw. I spent a half hour with a soldering iron trying to heat up any loctite. I ended up stripping the head on the screw.

    While the description says "tool only" it does come with one each of a bi-metal th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0vyBwjtx9GGOuiqUVT2sRoYqmDoNT_RI and HCS blade plus an adaptor plate for non-DeWalt blades. Wish I had known that before I bought the blade kit, but oh well. Since I already have a DeWalt drill, charger and batteries there was no need to buy more of those so this was a great deal.There is one other consideration. DeWalt does't sell the depth guide separately so you need to buy the three parts which make it up -- the N275350 block assy, the N275341 metal rod and the N278801 knob. Amazon does sell all three.

      @@gideonstactical I have to say the price is really stable. I got mine for just US$26.20 in 2018 and I'm still rocking it. Using a Maxpedition Entity Small Utility pouch for it since the clip on mine isn't usable (spring tension isn't enough) 😝 It's my go-to MT 90% of the time cause it's so lightweight and the tools are very usable.

    G'day Aaron, I'm sure I've mentioned before, I'm a Ranger 78, together with a smaller pair of linesman's pliers, guy, (away from the home workshop and vehicle toolbox anyway), ..... however;
    not bad for a light duty, and light on the wallet, model; it did do some decent work there.
    FYI; a mate picked up something similar, in fairness, with only a couple of locking tools, but with no discernible play, (as new), in the 5 AUD, (around 3 or 4 bucks USD), bin at a local chain camping store. Time will tell, but having handled and used it, admittedly only briefly, I reckon its on par with some @ many, many, times the price, (but no ...... sadly ...... not equivalent to Leatherman, lol).
    Incidentally, this particular item was not branded at all, could have come from anywhere/factory.
    Bottom line; like everything, there's an art to rewarding "budget buys". I reckon the main thing is to see and touch in store, or indeed be referred by a mate, perhaps an experienced and trustworthy reviewer ......... ; ) Certainly, not a solid strategy purely via Amazon spiel and the like.
    No, a can opener is not mandatory in the field IMO, if you do carry tins at all, (I do actually on occasion), but I'm surprised you found one without a ring pull. And yes they do break off sometimes and yes the Ranger 78 does happen to have a can, and bottle, opener, but plenty of other ways of opening both without a dedicated tool. So, if you've got one anyway, well and good, otherwise no great drama. Cheers Duke.

    I mean, it’s obviously capable and yes, Gerber‘s lifetime warranty is pretty good. But personally, if you can afford it, go with the Leatherman and support American workers especially in today’s political climate and the way the world is right now I think we need to support American workers as much as possible. Now again if you’re on a budget you’re on a budget I get it and I totally understand and this would be a good one if you’re on a budget but if you can stretch your wallet a bit further support American workers.
