I have not used the SQT tools but I do carry a Bibury almost exclusively now. The two biggest selling points were the standard bit driver and it's cost. The quality of the clones has just reached a point where I can't justify spending $150 when I can get ALMOST the same thing for $30.
Honestly I want them to clone the smaller ones. ie the Squirt, the Juice S2. :D I find the smaller ones more useful for EDC. Or if some nut makes a Gerber Dime in magnacut, I'd totally buy it.
This.. I have an ES4 and a couple of the PS4 models and I was planning on getting one of the Juice Models until they discontinued them and then the 2ndry market price gouge wars. I won't buy another Leatherman because they are a lot more money then I can justify without a direct need for one.
My Surge was stolen and I bought a titanium 19 in 1 Rocktol-another Chinese clone. Very happy with it so far. Very similar to a Wave at half the price.
I once read a comment that said “I don’t care about american made, i’m not american” as a rebuttal to someone complaining about these flagrant clones, i realized.. It’s not at all bad if clones are getting good. The consumer wins from the competition, always.

Almost lost another charge in the forest. Now the wave stay at home, the charge stay in my EDC bag as backup because it cost north of 200$. I carry these with me now because they cost only 15-20% of the LTM, and do the job all the same. I really don't give two shit about supporting American brand. Especially when they have already made a really good profit on the original design over past decades

My SQT came in yesterday and it's pretty solid all the way around! Everything locks in place & I paid $34 on Amazon so you can't beat that! I also pulled the trigger on my very first Leatherman "Curl" for only $76😮👏🏽 with the bit set for $15 both will be a nice Powerhouse!! of tools
I own a clone, a Rocktol, and the issue I have with it is that the handle of the pliers twist when pressure is applied in a circular manner. The same thing happens when you try to tighten or unscrew some bolt or screw. Also, since I saw you play with the handles and they have some play, the Rocktol also have that kind of play when the two handles are aligned together, though it's a bit less than the SQT. I don't know if Leatherman also have that kind of play that you showed in the video. I guess I'll go ahead and buy a Swiss Tool from Victorinox in the future bc I'm seeing that all these clones have the same design and quality control.
all these multitools (bibury, sqt, daicamping, etc.) are made in one factory (maybe even roxon, gerber and sog?). You can make your own multitool brand and order a batch of whatever you want from them with your own logo brand on it.
Dom: 1) Does anyone make a diamond file that will fit in the standard blade slot in the Buybury w/serrated/pull cutter blade? 2) What bit do you need to take that one apart? 3) Would the Serrated/pull cutter blade, work in the Free P2?
While looking them up I found their version of the Surge, T-shank adapter and all. Including 2 saw blades, bit kit and spare wire cutters for like 44 bucks. Guess what I'm getting if only to throw in an outdoor bag.
When you do the teardown, please weigh & test the "titanium" scales to check if they aren"t just titanium coated alloy. If you use a dremel on the rear of the scale and there's a LOT of white sparks it's true titanium. The SQT box does say "titanium alloy" though. ...
Quality issues for some of you probably because you’re fixing cars or farm equipment or door latches on airlines. I’m just using as an EDC. After 2 leathermans (at $100 a pop) stolen at work when I layed it down for sec I’m happy to buy these. Just bought 2 with your links. Thanks brother.
After watching your video, I picked up the Titanium coated model and I am pretty impressed with it. I do not think anybody is going to mistake it for a Charge though. It sort of reminds me of a 15 in 1 Workpro Multitool I picked up years ago that looked like a Surge. It was not sold for very long and was a monster of a tool at over 12 ounces! The other one you show there looks like the Shall tool I bought a few weeks ago. The scales may look like a P4, but it is nothing like a P4. As far as being legal or ethical, I do not see a problem with these "Leatherman Inspired" tools as long as they are not exact copies or are counterfeits with the Leatherman name on them. This is nothing new as companies have been making multitools like the Gerber Suspension for many years and look how many knife manufacturers (Chinese and American) made knives like the Buck 110.
I dont know what constitutes the "rigorously" standard but I carry a budget multi-tool and use it numerous times a day as an aircraft mechanic. I've had zero issues with mine in the 4 months (ish) that ive had it. I quit carrying my leatherman in favor of it actually. Im not going to be upset If i break it.
Theres no problem with people making clones as long as they are not marketing them as the genuine item and there is nothing companies can do about it if its not violating a patent and even then winning in court against a chinese company wont mean much since chineses companies change names like there going out of style
Exactly, it would be nice to put them all on the table like the older video budget tool 2 years ago ? I just saw this one on the Hvac budget video but you showed 2 models, Interesting ! The free one style mixed with the charge is blatantly curious, i wouls go for the titanium version. Nice vid as usual, keep it up Dom !

Does anyone know it saw blades and other tools from a supertool 300 would fit in these to swap out mostly wondering about the hole size and locking or if another leatherman saw would fit.
I mean the different name, steel type and a couple different tool placements does make it distinctly different regardless of the other 98% "inspiration".
Honestly, same with everything on temu. It's scary but how can anyone argue with the current economic climate here in the USA. I can't afford a 230 dollar multi tool rn
Most of the Chinese multitools are heavyweight tanks and not pocket friendly. They’re good for your car or camping or a fishing trip, (places where you might lose it). As long as the tools are good, let the world have all the multitools, (it doesn’t matter where they’re from!)
I would be curious to hear someone at LM say they don't worry. LM also has quality issues in their line up so it's not like they are protected by the quality gods. I have ordered 4 of these clones now and not a single one has had a quality issue that I needed to return it for. I have carried a LM daily since 2003 and their products served me great in that time. These clones really have reached a point where I am fully confident carrying a clone as my EDC. (and I do) LM is probably a bit worried in the long term because of that. I had zero desire to spend $230 on the ARC and that's because these clones have got that good recently.
My take: multitools are not proper tools, they're not supposed to replace one. So if they are good enough in "emergencies", I'll go for the one that doesn't require me to financially plan for, no matter where it comes from. Moreover, nowadays a device that costs ten times more (in Brazil, at least) will NEVER be ten times better than the "alternative".
@maxlvledc : Question: I bought a 'ARC' from Ricks and the Diamond File was Worn Out and had no Bits in it, (thinking it was returned), is there any way to get a new File for it???
I'm more surprised by your surprise. Face it - multi-tools aren't very complicated in their manufacture (they're closer to low-tech really) and China builds some very high-tech products.
Made in China just took another level ! I dont want to piss anybody here but yiu know what.. keep sleeping leatherman, the quality is almost there soon.
I hope they put out a ratchet bit driver clone. I am tired of leathermans games. No reason they cant put the drivers out after almost 2 years, except for B.S. limited releases.
Hot topic yes. Legal? Most likely yes, there are enough differences that they can't be considered clones, even the one with the Leatherman Free style markings on the handles. Ethical? That's debatable. The market is already oversaturated with cheap and mostly crap multitools from China made by a handful of factories under a thousand different brand names and styles. But, throwing some more into the mix that a casual observer might mistake for a Leatherman could be an ethical issue. Either way I still prefer the real deal. I have been a Leatherman user going on 30 years now and have never had one let me down once. I doubt I could say the same about these SQT things.
These SHOULD be cheaper than the originals. They don't have any development costs they need to recoup when you take someone else's design and send it overseas to be replicated. It's one of the more frustrating things with global retailers lately and there doesn't seem to be a way to police this. Some OEMs try to sue, but that costs them even more money to protect their products from being undercut by unethical competitors. This is not a case where the market controls pricing based on competition. This is theft. Buying these from Aliexpress is double theft. One company stealing the design and another stealing your personal data and credit card info.
Didn’t the patents expire? It’s not theft that’s how the system is designed. You get the patent time to make back your development costs, then we all benefit by having the tech open up. I mean thats what pushed leatherman to release the magnet stuff. That’s how it works. Patents expire so you can’t sit on your butt forever.
😂😂😂 as a consumer I go for quality vs price and make decisions. Who care copy or original. The stronger china become, they better for world consumer. Westerners also copy gun powder and compass from the east. I also no problem 😂😂😂😂
Patents last for 20 years. Are you saying you haven't seen blatant rip offs all over the place and you believe these are all expired patents? @@afoolishman12
I cant wait for a Free P2 clone since leatherman cant be asked to keep them in stock. Leatherman is falling behind in the space in the same way Verizon did. Theyve been the best for too long and their offerings have suffered from not needing to compete.
Get a break. My Leatherman charge plus is not perfect. I have a wiggle on serrated blade. I don’t think Chinese tools can be worse…. I think they can be easily better
To tell you the truth the bit driver is better. 2D is not the way to go. I know a certain other company has thrown in with those the few i have used are not worth carrying
They need to be good, not “good for the price”, since you’re implying they either can’t be used to their fullest or if so you’ll have to buy three of them for when they quickly break. That being said, if Leatherman wouldn’t have stupidly kept raising their pricing to crazy amounts in the last few years we wouldn’t even be seeing these clones.

I mean the different name, steel type and a couple different tool placements does make it distinctly different regardless of the other 98% "inspiration".
I so wanna see a black baby surge with a deep pocket clip. The one company whos abble to put that up will make so much money !
Already ordered that beauty:)
Honestly, same with everything on temu. It's scary but how can anyone argue with the current economic climate here in the USA. I can't afford a 230 dollar multi tool rn
Thanks for sharing.
I was gonna grab someone a birthday present. Its between a leatherman bond or a chinese titanium charge knock off im not sure of anything anymore.
Hmm, bond imo
@maxlvledc agreed the files on the knock off look as useless as the free p4 one.
Most of the Chinese multitools are heavyweight tanks and not pocket friendly. They’re good for your car or camping or a fishing trip, (places where you might lose it). As long as the tools are good, let the world have all the multitools, (it doesn’t matter where they’re from!)
Some people are collecting, some need the flag there are also quality issues so leatherman won’t worry.
This or dai camping dl30? This Is the question
Are the pliers, springloaded?
Nope
01:00 no, you can clearly see they stand closed.
Well since leather man have m made them really expensive, here we are!
SQT or Harbor Freightt?
My take: multitools are not proper tools, they're not supposed to replace one. So if they are good enough in "emergencies", I'll go for the one that doesn't require me to financially plan for, no matter where it comes from. Moreover, nowadays a device that costs ten times more (in Brazil, at least) will NEVER be ten times better than the "alternative".
Fact
@maxlvledc : Question: I bought a 'ARC' from Ricks and the Diamond File was Worn Out and had no Bits in it, (thinking it was returned), is there any way to get a new File for it???
No, send it back....that's woerd
As in no driver bits?
@@GeertSawek Yeah, no bits and used up Diamond File.
I'm downloading aliexpress right now because of this video
Plz use PayPal or similar...put something between your credit card and them just in case
What is the name and model of the one with the hook cutter?

Can somebody please help me find a pocket clip for the SIUPRO multi tool. Thank you
try a Nite Ize hip clip

Aliexpress here I come! If the pricing was closer I might make a different decision lol
I'm more surprised by your surprise. Face it - multi-tools aren't very complicated in their manufacture (they're closer to low-tech really) and China builds some very high-tech products.
Facts
Made in China just took another level ! I dont want to piss anybody here but yiu know what.. keep sleeping leatherman, the quality is almost there soon.
They are trying to... oh wait... even the box is very close. Come on China... you could change the box colors.
At least ship it in a Funk Suede looking red box.

I hope they put out a ratchet bit driver clone. I am tired of leathermans games. No reason they cant put the drivers out after almost 2 years, except for B.S. limited releases.

If these guys could use a decent blade steel, these would be a lot more enticing.

Wish someone would clone my Juice S2. My original is nearly worn out.

Lol
That is what scares me
To tell you the truth the bit driver is better. 2D is not the way to go. I know a certain other company has thrown in with those the few i have used are not worth carrying
China, please stop getting better and better... i cant offort more and more clones 😂
I can't make the first claim...without any quantitative testing
Simple. Just do a real honest test in durability between them. These Chinese pirate clones and the Leatherman brand. Then let us compare feelings.
Part of me is scared it will kick the shit out of Leatherman...my heart can't take it.
@@maxlvledc just wing it if project farm can do it you too can
Didn’t Leatherman blatantly rip off Tale of Knives on their leather holster ? I mean I guess you get what’s coming
Oooo, carma...
I didn’t know this
How long before leatherman goes to bankrupt ??
