Great review as always. I'd carry those blades with confidence , I like the fixed blade Kershaw. I just bought my first Kershaw Blur recently , I see now why they are one of Kershaw s top sellers. Thanks A.
I just bought the Kershaw Federalist…WOW! Very nice and on sale at $49. My first knife I bought when I joined the USCG in 1990 was the Kershaw Blackhorse made in Japan, used it in my 30 year career and still have it!
the federalist would be better to me if it wasn’t one of those super weak detent ball ‘slipjoint’ knives. i’d much rather prefer a normal backspring that wouldn’t close with the tiniest amount of pressure

Kershaw definitely has their finger on the pulse of the industry on the whole. Not just the small EDC community (as they like to think these huge companies should do what they say 🤣). The community gets their online-only exclusives at times, which is nice, but Kershaw is catering to the entirety of the knife-buying world. That's why this knife uses D2. Great steel for a budget fixed blade. I dig it, just wish it was USA-made (among other knives in their catalog). I guess if people made enough noise, they'd put out a USA-made fixed blade. But not likely this model, as they never suddenly switch manufacturing from China to USA on any one particular model; see: Iridium. Thanks GT 😎
My wife got me into Kershaw knives shortly after we met, this is the first fixed blade I've honestly considered buying and now it's thanks to both of you, great video!
I just wish they would use 14C28N Steel at a bare minimum... in my opinion it's the perfect budget steel that good for many situations.. I like D2 steel but I still think 14C28N is a better choice... it's not hard to produce and can be added to assembly line type of production fairly easily, and it's also cost-effective on the manufacturer side as well... and the end result gives you a better steel for your money... Just my opinion though 😎✌️
I’ve only bought one Kershaw knife in my life, I still have it to remind me to never buy another one, this video hasn’t changed my mind. It’s amazing how one end of a company can’t shake the cheap crap outlook, and the other end seems like pure quality though expensive. I have several ZT knives. And I’m in the low income bracket.
I like both besides the jimping on the Seppe because I never like jimping on any knife. But I think the Seppe would make a great backpackers knife. Just throw in your backpack as the 'just in case' fixed blade knife. I agree if you plan to use your knife a lot I would like a thicker handle but for occasional use the slim profile is perfect.

That fixed blade is a perfect size for EDC. I've been carrying something like that plus or minus a quarter inch, for years. Multiple brands. I have the Buck you showed, but I would prefer the sheath of the Kershaw. I carry mine scout or cross draw at the 9:30-10:00 because I carry my sidearm at 3:30. I don't like my fixed blade hanging vertical from my belt.
Nice video Aaron! I will check out the Grayl. The Roxon is awesome, as you know. I looked at the Cold Steel AirLite recently but decided to go with a drop point Civivi Sendy designed by Ben Petersen. As a SAK guy, I love it. Just a tad larger than a 93mm Alox, and the action is incredible with an in line back flipper design. Comes with toothpick, tweezers and Nitro V steel. As for pry bars, Lever Gear came out with their Edge XT to compete against the Gerber Prybrid X. Smaller than both the Prybrid and X, it's got a lot of cool features including a magnetized hex drive.

G'day Aaron, I'm really pleased to see Kershaw doing well ...... that's what can happen when you listen to the market. Seems to me, many brands think customers dont notice all the details that make up a good experience IN ACTUAL USE. Stupid really, knife dudes and reviewers, are rightly, gonna critique the hell out of it ; ) In fairness, I do think valid design decisions still often get lost between the drawing board/original design intent and the point of sale. Anyway, I'm always gonna go with belt high or low ride/dangler belt loops .... obviously not much good for concealment, though it does mean sheath dimensions and shape are far less of an issue, easy draw and of course no pokey pokey in the rib area, ....... f'k I hate that ; ) Incidentally, I wonder what the average, or most common, or range, of palm width is, finger length for that matter too ? ........ perhaps the glove makers out there can ...... lend a hand ...... with that ; ) Cheers Duke.
This fixed blade knife really got my attention . That is , until I found out the handle is rubberized . For me , that is a definite no sale . I've owned many products with rubberized coating . After a few years the rubber gets sticky and eventually gummy . What a mess ! I'll steer clear of this one .
I know exactly what you are talking about, but I believe that fate rests on specific polymers and not all rubberized items. Seems like it’s always something that requires a lot of contact, like a computer mouse, or a IR TV remote control! It is nasty. I haven’t found a way to deal with it, even after watching several YT videos claiming to have a “clean up” solution. That being said, it seems to happen to “rubber” that has a satin/soft finish to it. I do not believe this is that. Think of it this way. Have you ever heard of Cold Steel SRK handles getting gummy? Or Mora Craftline handles or Gerber Strongarm handles getting gummy? I don’t think that’s a problem here.
Spyderco Street Beat (micarta handle), way cool, stealthy, front-pocket carry. Designed for fighting by Fred Perrin; feels good in hand. Micarta handle model is discontinued ... bummer.
Has Kershaw gone back to the “No questions asked” warranty or are they still “reviewing” warranty claims? I was a Kershaw fan until they went away from the customer focused warranty policies, and that comes from someone who’s never broken a knife.
Can it be scout carry? Carried an Izula II for a bit and it got rusty. Been looking for something else that is more stainless than 1095, not that D2 is stainless but still. Any recommendations? $50-$100?
Looks like it can be scout carried one of 2 ways. Either take the clip off and mount it on the middle holes of the sheath, or using those lashing points and add a bit of paracord to make a spot for the belt to go through
@@chasewells5464 I’m in south Florida too and I have the 3 in S35VN and it’s definitely stainless . I pocket carried mine while swimming at the beach and it was fine .
If only Benchmade would take note on what a sheath is. Spent 200.00 on a little fixed blade and the sheath is useless. Knife cuts into it, everything about it sucks.
Big hollow on the tang created a critical weak point.. otherwise all good. The drop point flat grind d2 blade is a very nice jack of all trades design but the blade thickness is limiting. Overall as an EDC it does well in all but master of none Well at the price point it’s worth it enough
@@gideonstactical I’ve always been a fan of American owned companies that Produce here in the USA but not many actually are hitting quality and price any more… case in point Buck is not making much new and exciting or their prices are out of wack… and Case had quality issues
Is there any knives made for conceal carrying? Like inside the waist band and such. I know about the pocket carry fixed blades. But I don’t see too many.

It is not intended for hard use, but that cutout makes it weak, not enough metal there. Very nice blade though.
It looks like the Maverick from kershaw i really like the looks
G'day Aaron, I'm really pleased to see Kershaw doing well ...... that's what can happen when you listen to the market.
Seems to me, many brands think customers dont notice all the details that make up a good experience IN ACTUAL USE. Stupid really, knife dudes and reviewers, are rightly, gonna critique the hell out of it ; ) In fairness, I do think valid design decisions still often get lost between the drawing board/original design intent and the point of sale.
Anyway, I'm always gonna go with belt high or low ride/dangler belt loops .... obviously not much good for concealment, though it does mean sheath dimensions and shape are far less of an issue, easy draw and of course no pokey pokey in the rib area, ....... f'k I hate that ; )
Incidentally, I wonder what the average, or most common, or range, of palm width is, finger length for that matter too ? ........ perhaps the glove makers out there can ...... lend a hand ...... with that ; )
Cheers Duke.
I’m not sure what the current warranty policy is
Benchmade better be worried !
I want those in 14C28N. I prefer over D2
I am with you on that.
great kershaw
Can it be scout carry? Carried an Izula II for a bit and it got rusty. Been looking for something else that is more stainless than 1095, not that D2 is stainless but still. Any recommendations? $50-$100?
Get the Izula in S35VN
Looks like it can be scout carried one of 2 ways. Either take the clip off and mount it on the middle holes of the sheath, or using those lashing points and add a bit of paracord to make a spot for the belt to go through
@@gladeshunter8796 I thought about that one, is their s35 pretty stainless? I live in south Florida so even stuff like Nitro v gets some rust on it.
@@chasewells5464 I’m in south Florida too and I have the 3 in S35VN and it’s definitely stainless . I pocket carried mine while swimming at the beach and it was fine .
@@gladeshunter8796 okay sweet, thanks.
If only Benchmade would take note on what a sheath is. Spent 200.00 on a little fixed blade and the sheath is useless. Knife cuts into it, everything about it sucks.
what buck model is that he compares to steppe
The Alpha series, I did a video on that last year.
Can you do a review of the swisstech fixed blade walmart sells I was wondering if it is any good or if I should just go with this fixed blade instead
Yes, I’ve been looking into those. Hope to get some soon.
Big hollow on the tang created a critical weak point.. otherwise all good. The drop point flat grind d2 blade is a very nice jack of all trades design but the blade thickness is limiting. Overall as an EDC it does well in all but master of none
Well at the price point it’s worth it enough
I don’t understand why they would design a hole in the area where the knife needs to be the strongest 🙄
It is not intended to be a heavy duty knife . Will make a great starter knife for my kids .
You are not wrong....Kershaw seems to be one of the only companies listening to knife users and not resting on their heritage.
Very encouraging to see
@@gideonstactical I’ve always been a fan of American owned companies that Produce here in the USA but not many actually are hitting quality and price any more… case in point Buck is not making much new and exciting or their prices are out of wack… and Case had quality issues
0:22 what wood is that?
Pine
@@gideonstactical Thanks for a swift reply :)
Is there any knives made for conceal carrying?
Like inside the waist band and such.
I know about the pocket carry fixed blades.
But I don’t see too many.
Check out cold steel, Tkell, or Scallywag knife companies
There are some but good ones are pricey
cool
how about buck 684?
Nice design but whoever decided to put a huge hole in the biggest stress point needs slapped.
This was a 10 inch machete or 5 inch camp knife. I would agree for a 3 inch fixed blade totally doable.
