In the 80's, my mother and I spent a month traveling through Hong Kong, China and Japan. I was in culinary heaven. My elderly mom found that most dishes had a spice, or something that she just didn't like. The tour guides would gather near our table so that they could "help" her finish her meals. Despite this, we had a wonderful time.
What do you think the spice was? I'm so curious now. How amazing you could make all these trips back in the 80s when it probably was not as touristy like now.
You made me nostalgic , I have been so many times to Japan and love everything about Japan , if you go to Narita visit kikuya Restaurant near the temple , it is an small restaurant over 350 years old , the Ishibashi family has had many generations running it. They are like family to us. Food is delicious and super fresh, you will love it . I live in Vancouver where are you guys from ?
Spicy Icecream feels very novel, I really want to try it! Eggs in squid are so special, the Japanese there are so creative! Every corner of Ryoan-ji looks like a postcard, so beautiful and zen-like! Kaiseki is simply the pinnacle of art, every dish is very exquisite, I love it! I never thought that Japanese desserts could be so attractive. Thank you very much for sharing such a elegant episode, super great job! 👍🥰🙏
Wow! This is one of my favorites, of your videos. ⛩ Japan is the number 1 item, on my Bucket List. Being 100% Japanese blood, it’s definitely a must, for me.
many new TH-camrs doing Tokyo/Osaka/Kyoto content especially “post” covid travel….. watching repetitive content takes away that ‘Japan Magical feeling’….i go Japan every year since 2010 except during their lockdowns.. was there earlier this year when they reopened but just didn’t feel as special anymore… heck even Ichiran taste average now As travel content creator perhaps this channel needs to follow the Legend Weins and do more on the unbeaten path to keep it fresh
Planning on going back to Kyoto next year and can't wait. Went there for the first time in 2010 and had yudofu at a restaurant by Nanzenji temple called Junsei. They also had a lovely garden to look at while eating.
Great video. I love watching these now and have been binging them for the past 2 days. Do you have any tips for someone who hasn't been to Japan before. I'm planning on visiting around November next year and doing a 3 week trip to as many places as possible. Thank you!
Enjoyed the episode, it brought back great memories. It was a pleasure bumping into you in Nishiki Market. My wife still wants to know if your hot sauce has been released yet ;) Cheers Steve
Hey Luke. Could you let us know when you went? May have missed it in the video, but my wife and I are heading there in early Nov. just want to gauge the crowds.
Video is good, just you eating shark fin a bit disappointed in you Luke, I am pretty sure you know the process of them harvesting that so I hope this was really worth it😢
The Kaiseki dishes looks gorgeous and delicious. I, too, would be hesitant about the sperm sac....and the shark fin.... so unlike "regular" food I eat. But I would try them. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
I'm fine with the idea of eating shark fin. It's just that any culture that eats shark fin as a delicacy, should eat shark meat regularly. Also no endangered sharks.
Also, I'm a die hard conservative in the US but you should have declined the shark fin soup🥹 Just because they exploit an animal for one tiny body part doesn't mean you can't make a difference in some small way🥹
@@perrietalley7360you can be fiscally conservative and socially progressive. A lot of people like to act like conservatives can’t stand for animal rights or other causes, but you don’t have to feel like you’re in two circles that don’t mix. Do what you think is right
Great video and thanks to you both. Mink looked stunning in the stripped sweater at the dinner - such a beautiful and graceful person. I really love your longer videos as it allows a great escape from a damp Toronto winter - sigh. I won't offer any comment(s) on your ''never eaten cod sperm sacks on camera". 0.o There is a channel of expensive house tours called Propertygrams that I watch. As they were touring a primary bathroom that had a giant shower you could enter from two sides the cameraman, Jaden, said, "Wow, I love double entry". I lost it laughing my ass off. Yeah...so I'll just let that go here. Regardless, thank you for the video and hope you both have a wonderful Christmas and New Year's break to spend some time without a camera and celebrate these good moments in life. Thanks for all the great videos in 2023 and may you both have health, happiness, and inner peace in 2024.
Sorry but you lost me with your eating and thereby condoning the eating of sharks fin. Please google that and educate yourself as to the cruelty of killing a shark just for the fin.
URGENT!!!! Guys, I just wanted to let you know that Jesus is coming soon for those who truly believe in Him and will bring them to safety in heaven. Jesus is our Lord and Savior. Believe in Him with a genuine heart before its too late. Time is running out. The world is falling apart. Please dont get left behind. JESUS LOVES YOU SO MUCH!
Fun fact: Nishiki Market was a real market for locals that got ruined by tourists pretending that they are eating street food. Sad to say that this is a tourist trap to avoid.
He’s at it again!! 5:12: Crab “lag.”😊😂

What makes your travel to Japan any different to those going now? As a local I think you’re just as bad as they are.
Thanks for using my track "Tokyo Highball" 🙏🏻

My 11 year old Chinese twins crushed those octopus quail eggs and loved them. Asian taste buds for sure. I’ll pass.

That background piano loop you add as background music is making it hard for me to watch this. Sorry.
👍😎
I'm sorry but I could not eat shark fin !! It's so not right
The way it's harvest
omg you should watch how imitation crab is made. yikes don't eat that again love your street tours though
Unagi (eel) 😂 I heard you say unago so many times lol.
Anago and unagi are two completely different types of eels you can eat in Japan
Unagi is freshwater eel. Anago, is saltwater eel. Completely different taste and texture.

what happened to your white girlfriend? You switched to asian now?
