Downers Grove Golf Course is one of the best public courses in Chicagoland. In 1882 this course became the first 9 hole course in the USA west of the Allegheny mountain range and the very next year in 1883 DGGC became the first 18 hole course in the USA. Years ago the grounds were made into a 9 hole course. The ground's crew is excellent and the course is wonderful to play. Since 2004 My friends and I play it 5 to 6 times each week and we always look forward to playing.
Thanks for the comment Bill and for the history! DGGC is no doubt one of the best stories and hidden gems of the suburbs. On one hand I want to keep it that way (selfishly!) but on the other there is nothing like the history and quality of the course. I’ll see you out there ;)
@@Karstenhultgren In 1884 the same investment Group built the Chicago Golf Club located a few mile away in Wheaton IL and it is the second oldest 18 hole Golf Course in the USA. Wikipedia is in need of correction because the Chicago Golf Club is older than the course Wikipedia published as the first and oldest golf course in the USA. The Chicago Golf Club is private, very beautiful, and is still operating as an 18 hole course.
It is also noteworthy to know the train depot located only about 1.5 blocks south of the front entrance of Downers Grove Golf Course was built there to attract and accommodate Chicagoans to play at the course.
Really pumped to play this course after your review. What history. Thank you for bringing this course to my attention. I have lived in Chicagoland my whole life, and had no idea about this course.
Oldest golf course!! WOAH! Had absolutely no idea it was just down the street. You got yourself a new subscriber after this video. Love the channel. Going to breaking out a NEW putter for an OLD course!!

@@Karstenhultgren I thought twice about writing because I truly would like to keep this course a secret.
