    A big home run for this year's plantings at the college, Laura! Absolutely gorgeous! I also have to complement the caretaker of the gardens for a job well done! It takes a lot of care to get this kind of success and awesomeness from this kind of show of art in the gardens! Bravo! Well done to all who maintain these spaces and a big ovation to the creator! My hat goes off to you Laura! Well done!

    I love that you are exposing younger people to gardening, with the visual glory and lushness of this riot of colours. Many people never see a garden like this and will only walk past it in a public setting with no time to stop and check the display out. If I were a student there I’d be taking photos daily and dreaming of the chance to do the same thing one day.

    Beautiful job Garden Answer crew and Rosa. In my humble opinion more simplistic pots are more relaxing to the eye and the plants can really shine and not completely so much. Also, the sweet potato vine seems much more understated in the pots that are in shade. Less light keeps it in check with out the need to trim. Can’t wait to see next years beds.

    • @ritasicari7518
      @ritasicari7518 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that she puts too many plants and too many different plants in pots. I have found that, in order to do well, superbells need to be alone in a pot.

    The canna lilies look fantastic! They are perfect for the brutal heat and sun, as long as they get enough water! Cannas are a staple for summer landscaping in Walt Disney World because they are so well suited for the heat and sun! We love how they add a tropical feel to the gardens!

    • @LitlPoot
      @LitlPoot ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, love those cannas !!! and they are used a great deal around Atlanta too both in residential and commercial gardens ... now if we could just figure out how to get rid of the leaf rollers - UGH !!!! it's always something in gardening, eh?

    • @GardenHappy

    What a spectacular show Laura!! Please create an illustrated book with some of your favorite designs!! Have you ever considered doing something like that? Wow!!! That Beyond Midnight is out of this world!!I will find and use that annual in next years' plantings! Thanks for this awesome upload.

    • @l.m.4014
      @l.m.4014 ปีที่แล้ว

      Beyond Midnight (Sweet Potato Vine) is a Amazing plant on it's own! @ 29:50 > WoW. It doesn't 'need' anything else with it.
      A pot with just that in it > that's how I would plant it, in My yard. (Maybe a WHITE Canna in the middle ) (large pot / hanging basket / on a balcony)
      > Most of those pots/planters are too small, they don't need 4/5/6 Different plants, it's too much they all complete with each other too much and only the most aggressive plants win.
      Most of the other Flowering plants don't stand a chance with any of the sweet potato Vines....within 4 /5 feet of them. Less is more, in my yard.

  • @kathymorrow9951
    @kathymorrow9951 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Everything looks beautiful, as does everything you create! As gardeners we always see what we will do differently next time and I respectfully agree, less sweet potato vine. While beautiful, they have become the stars and not the backup singers!! (What about a lemon coral sedum (or two) in place of those sweet potato vines, at least at the front edges of the beds. Beautiful color but scale is better, so as not to overpower/dominate the flowering plants like the sweet potato vines do.) I always love to see what you pair together, you are an inspiration to this 35+ year gardener!

    The college containers would be the perfect opportunity to implement Aaron's one plant per pot approach. Either one plant in smaller containers, or one variety in bigger ones. I think it lends itself to commercial settings where two many varieties can look a bit messy

    Laura, if the college doesn't save the canna rhizomes/tubers, you might want to put a flag by the beautiful coral one with the yellow edges so you can save it in your root cellar for next year. That one is particularly beautiful! Except for a few issues here and there, the plants at the college look fabulous! 🤗💐🐝🦋

    Laura thank you! I am a new gardener, and had a bed of patunias. One day they all died! I googled all over and could not find any real advice as to why. I sit down to watch this episode, and Laura has my Garden Answer! You explained the holes and dropping and how to fix it. I went outside and there it was! Holes and droppings among my sad petunia patch. I will be treating them and hope for a few more blooms before the weather turns on us over here in Colorado! Thank you!!

    Hi Laura, the sweet potato vine is amazing, I am not a big fan of the supertunia. I live in Las Vegas, Nevada and have not had good luck with the supertunia. I have ordered the supertunia from Proven Winners for the last 2 years and have had no luck with them, it may be our heat but who knows. It has been 105-111 for the last 2 weeks.
    Thank you for all of your inspiration!!!! I have 2 limelight that are struggling in this heat as well, but they did bloom.

    Enjoyed seeing how the beds progressed! I grew cannas for the first time this year. Really enjoyed their vigor and display. How do you save the Canna bulbs to grow again next year? Thanks for all you and Aaron and your team do to educate and entertain!

      Very easy
      I’m in zone 7 NJ
      Dig them up
      Wash off rhizomes
      Let dry out a bit
      Store in box covered with shredded paper or brown paper for the winter in my garage
      I started mine on Valentine’s Day inside in dirt
      I was so excited to see the green shoots emerge from the planted rhizome
      It took a while with only water
      Then started to fertilize very weak at first
      Planted outside after mother’s day and what a show!! Enjoy

    I am loving the combination of the plants in the college welcome bed. I had great success with my supertunia vista jazzberry in my part shade containers with a Foxtail fern.

      I’m glad your jazzberry worked for you. After reading the comments, it seems several people have been disappointed with it.

    That first bed was absolutely beautiful Laura! I loved it that full with all the plants mingling together!

    So glad we got to see the roses. I was wondering how they were growing. I have one rose bush and all our rain and humidity this summer really did a number on it. I’ll just have to consider it a loss for this year. Can’t keep on top of the leaf fungus on lots of my plants this year. Our Supertunias never make it this late in the season. The campus looks awesome. I love the sweet potato vine, but maybe not as much in the pots.

    Wow everything is gorgeous! And I love the combination of the two colors of the canas. I think the yellow and the coral are gorgeous together.

    Love, love, love the area by the gym with the roses. It's not so stuffed. For me, I look at that area and find it more restful and peaceful versus other areas that are crowded with plants. All the areas are very pretty, you guys did a terrific job.
