      Absolutely agree! I could almost hear the narration of epic proportion as the music played.. just another day, little did Laura know that as she planted more perennials she was nurturing a hope for tomorrow that reached across a divided world, and a love of gardening that would be shared around the world.... Garden Answer the movie 🙃

    Morning Laura! Hope you and yours are well. You asked about how to give direction to parking, the house, and the Hartley. The first thing I thought of were 💡 lights in a stone column made with same brick 🧱 or pavers that you are using or on posts. I’m thinking like the gas flickering lights.

  • @joymarks4174
    @joymarks4174 ปีที่แล้ว +130

    For the entry walk : why not have some stone pillars on either side of the start of the brick walk to add a sense of formality to indicate the beginning of entry walk and being stone they could marry the color of the flagstone to the entry.

    • @corron168
      @corron168 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      My thoughts too! Could add some black metal/iron gates to the pillars and leave open toward the Hartley and the house entrances

    • @ShannonSaundersXO
      @ShannonSaundersXO ปีที่แล้ว +8

      This was my thought as well. Brick or stone pillars with either a planter on top or a light.

    • @rksoo91
      @rksoo91 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      My thoughts too.. make like a landing area just inside the pillars/arches and then have the path fork one to the main house and the other to the Hartley 🤍🤍

      Brick columns

    • @kristywhited8857
      @kristywhited8857 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, I had same thought....columns, lights?.....could help clearly identify the primary entrance. As far as transitioning the paving materials from parking gravel to hartley and main entrance though? I'm a bit lost on that too.

    Just had a mindful moment.
    I have watched G.A since 2016! (Omg that's been so long)
    In that time we had a rental home so the garden was annuals and pots I longed for Garden of my own. My mum trained as a horticulturist at Kew gardens in the UK, and the love has been passed down like Laura and her mum.
    And to see how much this garden changes in just months and years gives me hope.
    So that that we have our purchased home and the garden we have been dreaming of just I too can now see leaps of progress and have the confidence in knowing that gardening is magic ingoea from dirt to green and beautiful in no time.
    It's true to garden is to believe in tomorrow ❤️🌹

    If you want guests to go toward the house, I would bring the brick walkway all the way out to the parking area, so they just follow the brick path. The entrance to the flagstone patio could be along the path, maybe through an arbor or just a break in the hedge. I can't wait to see the end result, but enjoying the long drawn-out journey just as much. Always something to look forward to!

    • @maibereal2212

      In Addititon the brick path needs to have some sort of grand feel, so one knows that it is important.

    • @nef4588

      I thought the same thing, the floor could tie the areas in together and be natural. Adding the arbor is just genius. That sounds like it could be soooo nice

    • @leegalloway9508
      @leegalloway9508 ปีที่แล้ว

      i like this idea but i would accentuate the entrance with possibly the urns you took out of the formal garden recently. an arbor could also be nice, but you can have too much of a good thing and you already have several arbors scattered about. i would want a bolder statement. like taller evergreen topiaries or something structured. awaiting the result also!

    • @loloholmes2793
      @loloholmes2793 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't like the flagstone, it doesn't fit with the formality of the brick. She needs to pick a style & stick with one because while this mishmash might appeal to the eclectic, it doesn't match with the formality of the Hartley & the brick. Hiring a professional Landscape Designer would be a huge help to "button up" the hodgepodge that's going on.

    It has been such a huge journey for you all, but everything that you are doing is worth it! It’s so exciting watching your beautiful garden projects take form; each one so different, but yet all have a unified design that suit your lovely home. Why don’t you put a large, stunning archway at the main entrance to your house 🏡 Perhaps you could give your property a beautiful name and have it etched into the wood, or maybe a big black or white metal archway with a hanging plaque? You could grow some sort of striking blooms or roses up the archway. 🌺 You could always have a smaller but similar, less grandiose archway lead to the green house. Your property is really looking beautiful. All of your trees, shrubs and perennials have so much. 🌳🌻🌲🌷

    • @vzeimen
      @vzeimen ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree, rather than trying to make the entrance obvious with the pathways, mark it with an arch, trellis or other structure. I also think if you want it to be obvious as an entrance, the bushes at the corners in that area need to be removed and replaced with something shorter and more open.

    Merging the flagstone and brick walkways: I can see a small fountain or statue in a circular flower bed encircled with a soldier border of the bricks. It will be a natural meeting of the flagstone and brick paths. If it is centered with the front door, it will be a beautiful view coming and going from the house. A circular structure in the center enables a good flow to each pathway and creates a lovely experience to move through the spaces. I have a similar structure in front of my house. I watch each video with a notebook because you share so much information about each plant. We have so much landscaping to do and it is fun dreaming about what a finished product can be.🌺🌺🌺🐝🐝🐝

    I’m glad you went wider with the walkways, it will look more proportional to the grand property. I love the drone shots! Looks so pretty with the curving grass path. Secret space with bistro sounds so nice, can’t wait to see everything evolve.

    I think planters on either side where you want to direct traffic is an easy way to visually show people where to go. An arbor would work too. Great job Laura. Your will inspires me to keep working on projects in my garden!

    Oh my gosh!! So exciting for the brick sidewalk getting started. Loving the over head shots on this video! Love the red twig dogwood I have one in my garden and as soon as I planted the deer ate it down. Everything is looking great! I wish I could have my space looking so beautiful like yours.

    Woohoo, love the progress…not that everyday there is something great happening in your garden. In regards to your question, It might help in creating a direct view to the actual working door…the one to the kitchen and the one it seems you use the most. There might be a lot of rearranging but currently your eyes go to that door to the end of the hydrangea path. If someone gets to that point they need to make a decision of where to go. You can still have the path coming from the garden but from the guest parking area your choices will be…Hartley or home/kitchen. Does it make sense? Wish I could draw it :)

    It’s so fun to see the progress. Remember you mentioned yesterday in the video - getting out of our comfort zone is a good thing- change is good. We grow and learn.

    For the entrance to the house, have an archway or a gate! Gates always symbolize an entrance to something.

    Could you extend the flowerbed into a triangular shape? It would do two things: 1- separate the flagstone from the brick and 2- it would create a forked path from the visitor parking area going to the house and to the patio area. You could put a few stepping stones where the irrigation boxes are so they're accessible and anyone going from the house to the patio could cut right through easily but that wouldn't be visible from the parking area. You could put a smallish tree like a crepe myrtle in the triangle. You'd be able to see around the spindly multi-trunk of a myrtle to the rest of the beautiful garden.

    A fountain would be lovely with that bistro set location. The sound of water would add a lot to that area and gives the birds and pollinators a water source. Love what you’ve done.

    Great video, sometimes you just need to see the first step before you can move on, but I would be tempted to either edge the flag patio in the brick or use the brick in between some flags to create a pattern or use gravel to bridge the gap, you are already using gravel as material so it’s a good transition matrial

    It’s looking so good! I think visually you need to be able to see the entrance to your house from the parking space, so your eye is drawn towards the entrance. That may include removing some larger plants and extending the brick pattern from the walkway all the way to the parking area.

    ❤️ the drone footage today!!! My suggestion on Laura's question: The Artisan fabricating your beautifully curved handrail (great idea, Laura!!) could fabricate matching arbors to highlight the two entrances. They may also have suggestions for creating one-of-a kind garden sculptures to aid in designating traffic flow. I'm thinking pieces that Benjamin & Samantha will find interactive or represent them. Interesting pieces that draw the visitor to go down that path. Hope it helps. At any rate, it will look Amazing like all your projects turn out to be!!!
