Even better.....order a set of yamaha raptor 50 shocks. Used 75.00 for all three shocks. I did this for my daughter's first cheapo atv. The used Japanese shocks were smooth and soft as butter.. night and day difference...she loves it now. .soo much flex. Remember. The 50cc size shocks are designed for kids weight...those China springs are ridiculously over sprung. And they have zero dampening
Thomas J awesom!!! I want to see the finished product and how everything worked. Thinking about doing this mod!! Also what about wider wheels? I’m ordering the 10 tooth sprocket to give more torque. With this suspension mod wider tires and sprocket mod this bike should be cherry!! 🤙🏽
Its been a year. Lol. These are coming up on my project durations. Now I need to film my 110 suspension rebuild. I'm gonna cut my arms and sleeve them for extension. I'll cut some tracks along the new sleeved extensions so I can get welds all the way over the laps. I think would be more simple than your approach. Let's race and see who finishes sooner. Lol.
@@DuneMoose5 Hah, funny thing is that I actually recorded it 2 years ago and still haven't got around to uploading... I'm not much of a TH-camr, apparently.
Yeah they are everywhere on amazon and eBay, you can also get them in 280mm length, I installed them front and rear on our 3050c. www.ebay.com/itm/1pair-11-280mm-Motor-Rear-Shock-Absorber-Air-Suspension-For-Honda-Yamaha-BLK-GD/383591824596?pageci=fea479ec-76e8-4aeb-bbd2-7a392a2b76fc
Terrance Thomas I believe it’s both cheap and easy. The rear shock cost only about $50 shipped, and that’s in Canada which is generally far more expensive than the US for things like auto parts. If you can’t weld, either find a friend who does or just prep the upper mount and stop by a small fabrication shop with a 6 or 12 of beer.
Where can I order this strut? Can it be done for both front & back ? I just bought my son the same 4-wheeler and he is the same age as yours. The suspension is definitely very stiff and I’d like it to absorb a little more when he rides
Kacy, I will dig through old videos and see if I can find something to post. It may take me a couple of days... FYI this is the strut that was used in the video: www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0105RMILQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Notice the clevis end. Life would be easier if it was eyelets on both ends.
James, I wasn't able to find anything with a spring rate that would actually soften the ride. The factory springs have 2 issues: 1) The spring rate is FAR too high for the machine, and 2) they have no damping. The aftermarket shocks available help with problem #2, but none really solve problem #1 without changing the geometry of the suspension. If you have found a suitable shock for a 50 pound child that is a direct bolt in, please post a link to it for others!

Did you ever finish this? I'd love to see the finished product!
Sorry guys, I haven't been around for a while due to life events. I'm back, and phase 2 (the front) is coming soon!

cant wait to see
Phase 2!! Phase 2!! (I haven't been waiting 3 years, but I think it's time! :D)

That is a project, look forward to see how it turns out.
I'm having trouble with my bathtub drain it won't even go down the drain even though if I open it
Wish those came with longer front arms. There’s no room for increased travel.
Sorry one more thing have you found this size shock in the “eye-to eye” thanks

I need a stiffer back spring for myself. Could you post a link to one. I’d appreciate it.
I think you mean you need a softer rear spring?
Cheap? Hardly, Easy? Not at all, anytime you gotta weld something easy and medium difficulty are skipped

I was waiting for the easy to happen....
Actually not true

eBay. They come in multiple colors and multiple lengths for around $48 a shock

Also, could you upload a video of a before and after of your son driving it to visibly see the riding difference?

Would have been so much easier to just change the shock out. I did mine and it made a big differance in how it rides. No need for all that fab work.
What shocks did you use front and rear ? What lengths?

So. That probably isn’t a great place for the battery. Just a suggestion.
Trav, what is your concern with the battery location?
