    Thanks for the video intel. Headed to Catholes and Delvine the second week of March, so I really appreciate seeing the river and how you worked it. I’ll be throwing tubes that I tied so if I get a tug I’ll be happy, to land a springer would probably make my head explode. On Skye now chanting, “I love the wind, the wind is my friend”. Thanks again.

      Thanks for watching Mark and glad you found it helpful. Have a look further back in the videos there's another two or three on Catholes and Pitlochrie, good luck, hopefully there's a springer there for you 👍

    Enjoyed that, thank you 👍.
    Can't wait for the season to start here, I've got big plans, maybe drive up to Normandy to fish with a friend for salmon, never done that before, 🤞.

      Thanks for watching Corto. I didn't know they had salmon in Normandy. What's the name of the river? I'd be interested to have a look at it.

    I had a wonderful fresh 26lb spring salmon on the same beat in a full flood many years ago ,had a very traumatic fight to land it . Fantastic memories.

    cracking bit of water, only fished it once, but fished above at burnmouth a few times thanks to mike smith and jordy the ghillie, had a few fish also, stunning place at anytime of the year, even without catching👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🎣

      Hi its definitely a lovely part of the world and your right a fish is a bonus. I've only fished burn mouth once for a few hours on the bank. Bot much character to it but it can be deadly in the spring. 👍

    Have you ever thought of feeding a little line as you upstream mend? I fish a lot of salmon/steelhead and started using this method to allow the fly to fish in the zone longer without being bopped around from mends. And last, is January really Spring in Scotland, where is winter?
    I am buying my first little jet this summer and want to swing from the boat, seeing how you anchor and continue to let rope out really helps. I was wondering if I should be resetting my anchor more often and this helped answer that.
    Awesome vid. Thank you.

    • @scottishoutdoorlife
      @scottishoutdoorlife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi thanks for watching. Where I wanted it to hang was after the mends. I like to mend it as it helps the fly and line sink, so when it starts to tighten up its at a lower depth and straight so swing into the zone at the correct depth and speed. Where I was mending was too fast for a spring fish.
      Yeah we call them springers from 15th January but the majority come in March-June hence the nick name. January is definitely still winter.
      If you can tie the rope to different points on the boat you can make it sit where you want it within reason. I could have moved it about thirty yards across or most spots in between by using the different tie points on the boat.
      Thanks for the comments, glad you enjoyed it 👍

    The Tay is one of my favourite rivers and, in places almost, rivals my River Dee for beauty.

    • @scottishoutdoorlife
      @scottishoutdoorlife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Colin thanks for watching. There a certainly some spectacular beats although I do love my trips to the Dee. I always feel confident, maybe it's because it a much more manageable river. Where do you normalfish on the Dee?

      @@scottishoutdoorlife low down, Park and All Trees. I had fishing with my shoot on Blairs but there were no pools and so no salmon. Fine for Brown trout though I used to be given fully ghillied days at All Trees for helping them with their foxes. Early season springers, arriving to a warm fire in the old bothy and a bacon roll. Really great days out and well worth it just for having a go at the foxes now and then, too.

    • @scottishoutdoorlife
      @scottishoutdoorlife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not so bad for having a bit of fun with the foxes. I used to be in the Tilboiries syndicate for a couple of years. I fished Borrowston for a long time. It's a great beat.

      @@scottishoutdoorlife I was very impressed with your casting. Effortless. They are few and far between that cast like that from a boat, sitting or standing.

      Thanks it should be like that after nearly 30 years I suppose. Don't do much out of the boat, i like being on the bank but it's a nice change every now and again.👍

    Too early nowadays. No where near the same amount of fish that could justify an early opening. But the proprietors want their money I suppose

    • @scottishoutdoorlife
      @scottishoutdoorlife  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd agree. They could make it February but then the beats won't generate income and ghillies less tips etc. Plus it's nice to get a cast in January. Stops the shakes.

    • @raymiebhoy100
      @raymiebhoy100 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scottishoutdoorlife that's exactly my point. More about generating income than giving value for money. Why not wait until there is a greater chance of catching a fish. In your vid you fished all day and didn't even touch a kelt. That would have been unheard of years gone by. But the customer is still being asked to cough up. But listen, not having a go for you trying. Just think that the system need to address the issues of the time and give more consideration to the fish and the folk that keep the jobs alive. The people who rely on them will be out of a job if theirs nout to catch. Punters being asked to spend hard earned money for the chance to cast into the tay just to sustain someone's job is not the reason people want to fish the tay. But as I said. Money money money

    What's that...80 or 100 quid for the pleasure of throwing in a lure into the Tay with about 1% of catch a fish. Absolute disgrace these scammers charge tax payers to fish on their own damn rivers.

    • @scottishoutdoorlife
      @scottishoutdoorlife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andrew I think we've been down this road before.

    • @andrewshepherd1579
      @andrewshepherd1579 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scottishoutdoorlife But you keep walking down the road...you spent what 100 quid to fish in a river where the a) chances of actually catching something are so slim and where you probably have to put the fish back and b) it should be completely free and funded by the government.

    • @scottishoutdoorlife
      @scottishoutdoorlife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And again. It's up to the individual to spend it if they want too. I could go and join an angling club today for 150 and fish nearly every day thereafter. Its available to everyone too. I choose not to and fish somewhere else but pay for it.
