      When we talk to none anglers and they ask if we have caught anything and we say no sometimes we get a responce of why bother going fishing. I think that they don't realise that there is more to fishing than catching fish . Its probably a good thing that there are so few of us and we have the good life and some quiet days to enjoy our fishing Cheers Iain 🥃

    Hello again Iain. Great video mate when you started fishing by the bridge I couldn’t help but here all the birds singing in the trees behind you, Definitely fish there Iain but didn’t want to know the fly but you caught a few trout which was great to see. Keep them coming Iain, Tight lines. 🍷Steve. 👍

      There were 3 fish off that beat next day Steve . It shows that after the water drops and the temperature rises the chances improve . Bill is fishing there for the week and invited me for the day and I hope to get a good report from him next time we meet
      I hope that you are both well and you can get sometime at the river Cheers Iain 🥃

    Beautiful bit of water that Iain... Every one of those pools looked fishy! It looked like a lovely peaceful day with just the sounds of the river and wildlife... The only sound that was missing was your reel screaming! 😉👍 Hope you and yours are keeping well. Cheers James 🥃

      Thank you James I think that we all have days like this one ..... get up go fishing and then woosh its time to go home . There was some time to appreciate the world around and it was a great day to be out . I hope that you and yours are all staying safe in these dark days and still managing to get out and have fun . Cheers Iain. 🥃

    Another excellent video Ian. Looks a very nice beat in good water condition. It’s always a bonus when you know there are fish on the go but not very nice when you get the tell tale cold, wet foot

      Think that Bill was prepared with a spare pare of waders Andrew. Bill and his friends take the beat for the week and were kind to invite me for the day. I was so envious when I left to come home knowing that they would be there all week when there were fish about. I think on the Tuesday there were 3 fish caught . I will have to look forward to next day out Tight lines on your next trip

    Another great video Ian, love watching your videos, I started fly fishing August last year and have just bought my first fly rod for salmon, looking forward to learning how to Spey cast ect and what fly's to fish.

    • @IainSB
      @IainSB  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well done Paul A bit of advice don't put yourself under pressure to catch a fish and try looking at where you think a salmon would lie, take your time and try present the fly slowly over fish. lots of anglers stomp into water and rush to cast a fly and this can scare fish. salmon can be spooked very easily its part of the self preservation instinct try not to stand high on the bank if the water is low and clear . Tight lines Cheers Iain 🥃

      I t was a lovely day at the river . in the afternoon I had my jacket off and my gloves off . it was great to feel warm enough to fish without all those things that create a problem while casting. No fish again but that's not a problem it was a great day at the river

      30 years ago there would have been hatches of flies and the trout would have been bouncing about everywhere . I think with the planting of so many pine trees on the hills in the upper reaches has turned the water acidic and killed a lot of the fly life and that has reflected in food for the trout and salmon parr

The last few years your comments have enlightened me into the state of the rivers in your area and I am great full for that and hope at sometime in the future to visit. I hope that the pressures of work won't keep you away from your fishing. Tight Lines .

      @@IainSB Fishing for Salmon has been huge massive part of my life.Work lol hate it but have to do it,this the first time i worked for anyone since Easter 1990 norm to work for me self....i was in morcombe yesterday and got talking to hoose owner who was a shrimp,mussel,cockle,elver fisherman back in the day he has one of the very last Salmon licenses for the river Lune,which cant be sold but has to be passed down,he hasnt used it for years,Lunes a nice river flows from lancashire into cumbria almost Co Durham by a few miles and just misses North Yorks...used to read Falkus books as a kid and used to read arthr olglesby books used to bump into arthur from time to time they both said yes in 60s like most other rivers the spring runs were good but not a patch on North East rivers - for sized sea trout...back then tees tyne and all of yorkshire by the esk was polluted to death....but i understand what he meant by that ...anyways cannot wait to see ya first fish of season :-) always enjoy your videos pleasant and warming they are...not commercial like some...here on YT,i built a website a few seasons back a salmon fishing site a forum but nothing like the current one we have in place..covid stopped me from opening it but im thinking for 2023 if all gans well that is....so when / if its up and running il be looking for FAIR admins who dont use politics and wokeness so if ya interested not now let me know........

      I remember one of the times I met Arthur Oglesby . Was in a hotel just south of Walkerburn . he was sitting on a bar stool but not for long as he fell off it . I think that it had something to do will the contents of his glass rather that me walking in . I am afraid at the moment I am not in a position to take on any extra work and if circumstances were different I would have loved to assist . I wish you all the best with your project and hope that I may contribute in some way. let me know when it goes live

      @@IainSB ive met A.O on the rivers Tees & Whitby Esk... Tees he was watching and quizzing about the then 1983 Tees salmon making a comeback & on the Esk well well well dunno quite how to say it but if yer ever read that book of his when at the very end he says he has been fortunate to catch many salmon on fly and lure and many the 'Other Way' well Ruswarp now closed for salmon fishing on the Esk was what we call a place...it was closed for its lawless ness ... lots caught salmon here the 'other Way' ....Shame its closed as times and attitudes towards fish stocks have indeed changed since those days.Saying that all small fishing Towns with salmon rivers always get some stick with people fishing the Other way ;-) Arthurs other way was the big fly rod and fast sinking line not the spinning rod method.I was a very cheeky lippy 'Youth' whn i spoke to him lol

    • @IainSB
      @IainSB  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that big rods heavy sinking lines and lightly dressed flies were something that was deemed necessary while fishing a lot of rivers if you wanted to catch fish . when I first started salmon fishing I could not understand why anyone would want to impale a beautiful fish and after conversations with so many with a problem in proper catching it was obvious that they were quite intelligent but had a mindset that it was the only way to catch fish as the would not eat or take a fly once in fresh water

      Hi again Finlay I think that I would benefit from going to the casting clinic at Upper Delvine as over the years I have picked up some bad habits and should really get some tuition . I am afraid that at the moment I only manage to get out fishings sometimes and excursions are curtailed . I hope that in the future that I may manage to get back to help out at the Gamefair and attend the casting clinic. I hope that you can go and benefit from the experts that are on hand and also enjoy the BBQ .

    Fishing on these Scottish rivers...I just can't get excited about it....a total rip off and you need about 10 visits probably to even get close to a Salmon...not to mention you can hardly even keep a fish nowadays....River Dee and Don is Catch and Release and they STILL charge a rip off amount..AND you can't use the damn spinner!! A joke

    • @IainSB
      @IainSB  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andrew. I suppose to the visiting angler some fishing can be expensive. There are many angling associations. I am a member of one and most of my Tay and tributary fishing is covered by annual fee of £220 or for OAP the cost is £180 Juniors are free if accompanied with an adult . At the moment I don't make full use of the opportunity's to go fishing through the P&D AA and I am sure that I could go fishing every week through out the season for my money. As for catch and release a fish is allowed to be kept after the end of June quite a few rivers but the recommendation is to return fish. Spinning is allowed on a lot of rivers depending on the beats and their recommendations on river levels. Cheers Iain 🥃. Tight lines where ever you end up 🎣
