    Why not do the upgrade with the TX connected "Power Off", then it updates the bootloader at the same time...

    • @TweetFPV
      @TweetFPV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I didn't realize that it would do that. This does make things a bit easier. Thanks for the tip!

    • @barrycole8378
      @barrycole8378 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@johnd.ingleson799 Basically the same as the video, but when you do the actual updating from companion, you plug the USB cable in with the Tx turned off. That way it updates the bootloader at the same time.

    This was an outstanding tutorial. I got my taranis 2 days ago, pure virgin to any of this. I got though it nearly flawlessly with this video. I bugged out a bit because my bootloader .bin file icon was different, but when I followed the instructions everything seems to have worked. Now to set up for DRL (real flights to follow on trashcan after I feel comfortable) Big thanks!

    If you actually flash with the radio totally turned off (without turning it on in bootloader mode), it will automatically upgrade the bootloader at the same time when performing any firmware upgrade.
    BUT, you must be sure that the DFU drivers are installed correctly in order to perform the firmware upgrade with the radio turned off :)
    Have a great weekend and keep on flying with OpenTX 2.2.3 firmware ;)

    1. I believe that the firmware is supposed to go in the folder Firmware. Just looking at the readme.txt files for EEPROM and FIRMWARE seems to indicate that. But it worked for in your video so apparently it doesn't make any difference.
    2. Although not copying the sound file has worked for me, There does need to have one folder in the SOUNDS/en/ folder (substitute the language of your choice for en) that dose need to be copied. It is the SOUNDS/en/SYSTEM folder. It contains the units for announcing "12.3 Volts" or "42 meters" or any other telemetry or lua values...as well as several other announcements used by OpenTx (like hello.wav and bye.wav.)
    3. The Power off method works fine when the correct USB driver is installed, but Windows sometimes dose updates that change it to a driver that dose not work. Then you are in what is known as ZADIG hell. ZADIG is a program to install the correct driver.

    nice video. you explain things pretty well, so keep it up. your channel will grow. about the R9 stuff though, I'm still confused as to which firmware to use on it. I originally was trying the flex version (because of the active power output adjustment), but couldn't get telemetry working. after doing research, it seemed that flex was primarily used in the EU and not the US? I have since switched to the standard FCC version which appears to also have the active power output adjustment feature. I am now able to get telemetry working too, so I think I'll just stick to the FCC version. Not sure what benefit, if any, there would be to using the flex version at this point. What is your take on this? Thanks.

    • @TweetFPV
      @TweetFPV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree the flex seams to be more lbt oriented. But recently with the full release of opentx 2. 2.3 I jumped on the flex fw and have to say it is working quite well for me. Frsky change log info is very poor to say the least.

    Do you know what ATC Battery low warning is? Ever since I upgraded to the latest I have this warning on screen 1st thing. My main pack is fully charged though and still lasts a couple hrs.
    Thanks for the vid. It helped me a lot.

      Yes it's the little coin cell in the radio that holds the eeprom. It's a 1220 lithium battery. alofthobbies.com/1220-lithium-cmos-battery.html very easy to fix.

      I had the same thing happen when I updated.it was either coincidental or the older fw didn't monitor the eeprom battery. Either way pop in a new one and all is good.

    I have Open Tx 222 on my computer and my X9D Plus radio. 222 does not have the simulator. Open TX 219 did have it and it was a nice feature. Does 2223 have it back as a part of the program?

    Great vid. Question, if I don’t check the heli option as you did would the Taranis X9D plus then have a wizard for helis? I just got a taranis same one and it doesn’t have a heli option and it’s freaking me out since I’m new to helis. Fairly.

    • @TweetFPV
      @TweetFPV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have collective pitch heli you need to select those options. I don't fly helis just multirotors so I don't use those options. Basically it give me one less menu in the model setup on my taranis.

    • @deveshbudhram120
      @deveshbudhram120 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      TweetFPV I think I understand. So with what you said I’m gonna guess that yes it will give me a heli option when creating a model. And just to confirm, I still select the same options you did just do the opposite with the heli yes?
      I have a raptor 90 nitro and trex 600E...both are flybar and I’m sure is collective pitch.

    • @TweetFPV

    I would like to know if, to update the SD Card, is better to delete all files first and then paste all files of the new version instead to copy and replace.

    • @TweetFPV
      @TweetFPV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends. I typically just overwright what's there minus the sound folder.

    • @fernandow7763

      @@TweetFPV my doubt is because I already updated a lot of times and was afraid to have trash files on the SD cards. For example, on Eppron paste, I have 2 files and the boatloader is V2.2.0. I gona delete them and update it. I updated to V 2.4.0 and the lua script is not working well..

    +1👍 i've done this before, but don't understand why we have to write the file from the UI *_AND_* write from TX to update bootloader. seems like software should do both. (i have xLite)
    Thanks Tweet!! i intend to purchase/upgrade to r9m at some point also.

    • @TweetFPV
      @TweetFPV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure why either. My guess is because opentx works on a large range of radios and when you select all your options in the beginning that is custon to your model of radio. Still it seams like it should just do everything with one push of a botton. I bet the tango does everything all at once.

    • @nerdCopter
      @nerdCopter 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@@@TweetFPV Thaks again, just wanted to state that on my xLite, the bin didn't say "flash bootloader" if i put it in "eeprom" folder, but did work from "firmware" folder. storage position should not have mattered, but did.

      There are 2 different kinds that i have used in the past they are made by a company called G-force. I have a video on the one i prefer. th-cam.com/video/uBebB8s2-jE/w-d-xo.html
      i like this one because it is lower profile. alofthobbies.com/g-force-stealth-neckstrap-balancers-for-taranis-x9d.html
      this is the on the x9d in the opentx2.2.3 video. alofthobbies.com/g-force-balance-bar.html
      the second one is easier to install but the first one is a much more solid and lower profile.

    Do you need to save anything first before doing the updates such as models/settings?

    • @TweetFPV
      @TweetFPV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You shouldnt need to but it's not a bad idea to do a backup in opentx companion before you start.

    I flashed 2.2.3 a few weeks ago without checking the R9 box, and I just received an R9 module, do I need to go through the same process again with it checked or can I just go into radio setup in open TX and check it?

    • @TweetFPV

      If you intend on using the R9M flex firmware then yes you will need to redo the opentx firmware update process.

    When copying new sd card contents, my previous models will be erased?

    • @TweetFPV
      @TweetFPV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They shouldn't. Your models are saved to the radios eeprom and not the SD card. However it's a good idea to make a backup of your models using the opentx companion software before you start the upgrade process.

    I'm using Open-Tx 222. I basically followed your steps. There were two files, one called EEPROM & one called Firmware. I saved those files from the Taranis H drive copping them to a folder on my desktop. I copied a third from my computer thru Companion to my desktop. I also saved that content which was from the SD card & it had a different name: models. I changed the one called models to Opentx222. I put the SD card in a reader and placed it in my computer. I cut and paced that file to the EEPROM folder, put the SD card back in my Taranis. Confusing haa. Anyway, when I turned my radio back on, went to page 2 of 9, selected EEPROM, the file I renamed was there. I selected it. the only choices it gave me were copy, rename and delete. Flash boot loader was not there. My boat loader still shows 2.1.6...... What have I done wrong.?
