    Hi there from Greece! I love your r9m videos.fhe flex firmware looks very interesting! I have a taranis x-lite and an r9m module.(not lite). I am waiting for an adaptor to arrive so i can fit it. I was told that i should set it as ppm. Do you agree? Maybe because there is not an option for r9m full size in the x-lite firmware. So i guess that this will not work with flex firmware? I would appreciate your info. Thank you!

    I'm just doing this now, great tutorial, easy to follow, but I'm confused on the R9M firmware to choose. In the R9MM zip file it has the R9M firmware showing that you write to the module, but on the R9M flex firmware page it shows 180428 "Only firmware update for EU LBT mode" should I be installing that one or sticking with the version in the R9mm zip file ?
    I'm presuming to use the firmware thats in the R9MM zip file so the two firmware versions match ?

    • @TorbanDallas
      @TorbanDallas  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On the FrSky page you find the Flex Firmware on the module and the r9mm (V180926 447kb) i have chosen the sbus firmware. Both containing the Firmeware for the Receiver and the R9M. So yes you can use the files from the FW-Ranger9_Flex_Beta.zip file

    Great video! Does the nightly build warning at startup appear every time you switch TX on or only the first time after flashing? If it's every time any way to suppress that warning?

    • @TorbanDallas

      Hi, thank you! The warning appears every time when you switch on your taranis :D but it doesn't bother me. One click on your taranis and the warning disappears.

      With the flex firmware you can select between 10,100,500 and 1000mw output power and you even select the frequency of 868 or 900MHz

  • @pablofpv
    @pablofpv 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you know if its possible to flash the R9M with flex firmware without a Taranis?
    Can you use the FrUSB-3 (FUC-3) updater tool you can use on the receivers using s port?
    This would make it possible for anyone with a ppm out put TX( non Taranis) , to add the R9M module and then change the firmware to get all the benefits of channels higher power, but using EU 868 MHZ.

    • @TorbanDallas
      @TorbanDallas  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, you need opentx 2.2.3 for running the flex firmware on your r9m and your receiver.

  • @AlexRachok
    @AlexRachok 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So am i understand correctly that:
    - after installing this 2.2.3 Nightly build i will be able to select and use 868Mhz freq? i'm from Russia, so i can use FCC non EU version which is more powerfull BUT!!! we have our cell operators using the same 900 mhz freq. :( the only solution is to downgrade to EU version at 866 Mhz and 200mWtt ..
    so for me ideal solution will be to use max power but on EU freq, will this be possible?
    - and another question, will this 2.2.3 going to be released, so i'wont get this annoying warning "nightly releases are not safe to fly"! each time a start TX?

    • @TorbanDallas
      @TorbanDallas  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, yes you undestand it right! Update your radio to openTx 2.2.3 and update your R9M and R9 Rx to the latest flex firmware as well. Then you are flexible to use the Frequency (686Mhz,915Mhz) with every output power of 10mw, 100mw, 500mw and 1W.
      It think it will still take some time until opentx 2.2.3 will be released offically. There will also come a new R9m EU Firmware but that will still take some time, so for now it would be the best option for you to install opentx 2.2.3 and the flex firmwre. I also recommend to set the delay for stage 2 failsafe from 0.4 to 1 second and to set throttle yaw pitch and roll from auto to hold in betaflight to avoid failsafes caused of rssi drops. I also have upgraded my antennas as you can see in my other videos.

      @@TorbanDallas No, not anymore. It says has 868/915 with 10/100/500/Auto power output. I have not tested it yet though. Interestingly new flex fw for R9M/MM has hit the frsky website today.

      @@Rasgore4 stop thinking and start doing it correctly ;) The green LED indicates a bound Receiver. And it should turn to red when you switch off your Taranis. I think you did something wrong on the way from the receiver to your flight controller. Maybe you didn't solder it to the right Uart pads. Maybe you didn't set up it correctly on the ports tab in Betaflight or you selected the wrong receiver setting.

    What does 2.2.3 give you over 2.2.2 - more functionality or the ability to use the R9mm full stop ?

    • @TorbanDallas
      @TorbanDallas  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Conrad Taggart it gives you the ability to run the flex firmware on your r9m and r9 receiver - and as you can see at the end of the video you can set the output power and the frequency. If you are in the EU it is a big improvement. So you can run more then just 25mw with telemetry. With the non flex firmware and opentx 2.2.2 that isn't possible.

    Sorry im new at this maybe u can help please , When I create a new model it doesn’t allow me too chose between kwad airplane etc it just goes directly too the menu again and the model is there do you know why? And the version of the taranis is 2.1.6 and as soon as i turn it on it gives me a warning that says sd card expects firmware 2.2v0018

    • @TorbanDallas
      @TorbanDallas  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, your issue has nothing to do with the topic in my video, so when you're still on opentx 2.1.6 it's getting time for an update. Also make sure to download the sd card content. To be honest, i just have created a new model once, then i every time have copied this model. That's way easier than creating a new model.

      Maybe you have mismatching firmware versions on your r9m and r9 receiver, make sure to install the same version on your r9m and r9 receiver. Also make sure to install the right opentx version. If you're using EU-LBT Firmware check the EU Checkbox in companion.

    • @TorbanDallas
      @TorbanDallas  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dmitryn2889 mh maybe it depends on the firmware, on the R9Mini there's a RSSI Output on Channel 16 (Aux12). On my XM+ there's also a RSSI Output on Channel 16. Rssi Channel in Betaflight is set to Aux12. So i always get the RSSI of the Receiver with the stronges signal. But i never know which one is the active receiver and i can't see both Rssi Values the same time. Unfortunately the rssi on the r9mini is scaled wrong, so it doens't show the real value - i hope frsky will fix it on a newer firmware.
