True, Corswain was a very capable Astartes. The Lion did not leave him in command of a significant portion of the Legion for nothing. He probably misses out as the Dark Angels have two major stories lines (The Lion and the events on Caliban) already occuring. If you look most of the books about the Dark Angels (a trend started in Angels of Darkness which is a 40k book) they swing between two major plot points.

Curze, as programmed, is the 40k equivalent of the devil. His whole function is to punish and to do so in a way to become a deterrent for others.
The thing is that he can ONLY be used as weapon against a very specified target or group ( much like angrons world eaters) or else they won't know when to stop...
The tragedy of Curze was that he percieved himself and of one use only (because of his precog habilities) as being designed to bring nothing but pain and despair others. In a world such as 40k, filled with corruption as it is, who SHOULDN'T he punish? Look at Sevatar in the Prince of crows short story: he IS the embodiment of Curze.

The Lion may not have been a charismatic man. But he was a man of unshakeable principles and belief in his father's cause. As much as Chaos might have wanted to, there was no way they would turn Lion El'Jonson to their cause, because there were never any doubts or vanity for them to prod and pry at. Loyalty is its own reward.

Curze and the Lion turned out to be one of the most surprisingly enjoyable story lines in the HH series for me. In my opinion, the Lion has been elevated in a way due to his battles with the Night Haunter. At this stage in the game, 50+ HH books and counting, the Lion is now recognized as more than just a 'strategically-gifted primarch', but an absolute top-tier killing machine and key player in the storyline. Despite his mastery of established combat styles though, Curze inadvertently taught him how to fight against preternaturally unorthodox combat forms that disregarded ritualized, formal duels. Those fights further brought out the Hunter in the Lion; he would reflect on their fights and focus his skill set while honing his already razor-keen senses. This ultimately enabled him to go into the dark and break the Night Haunter in his own element. Two great characters indeed !

Such a great fight. Lion has the edge when he keeps his head. His fighting is perfect. But Curze has the advantage when things get emotional, personal... literally down and dirty. The pairing is great. Knightly justice juxtaposed against corrupted justice.

I don't know who else here had combat training or fight experience, but Demski-Bowden clearly doesn't.
Once the Lion Sword ran him through, Curze was done. He was not shooting past the en garde of the best duelist of the primarchs. It doesn't happen that way with experienced fighters.
The fact that the Lion took Curze by surprise is further testament to the Lion's supremacy.
The fight was terrible writing and nonsense. I don't mind the dialogue before, but the fight is nonsense.

Sad thing is, Konrad was right. The Dark Angels, and, though not as openly, their Primarch, do have their loyalty questioned because they were too late to arrive on Terra. And the whole Fallen problem and the unfortunate things the DA have had to do to keep it quiet, which they HATE having to do, only makes things worse.
I like that it mentions Konrad was both amused and saddened by his vision. Amused because, he's probably seen this vision play out again and again in his fits of madness and foresight, and saddened because, say what you will about Konrad, but he did ultimately want a just world. He wanted to be "the good guy." The fact that as soon as he savaged Rogal in his rage, he was weeping over his body, tells me, that he didn't want to hurt his brothers, but he couldn't escape the madness and destiny that bombarded his psyche.

The High Lords flat out refused to use any Dark Angels Gene-Seed during M33, they were heavily chastised for the massacres they performed on Minoria and the Black Templars never forgot that a lot of their brothers went "missing" after they found Cypher and the DA forced them to hand him over at gunpoint.

Ya, also in one of the books (can't remember which one) is shows flashes of all the primarchs that fall to chaos. It doesn't list them by name, but describes them and one of them that didn't fall to Chaos even though the Chaos gods apparently tried. The one that didn't fall even though they tried is heavily hinted to be the Lion. They threw him at a tainted planet, filled with warp tainted creatures and instead of giving in he basically _purged_ the entire planet of chaos spawn, and somewhere along the way learned to hide himself from the warp. This is why the Lion was able to hunt down Curze in the belly of his flagship, in the dark, without Curze being able to really sense/see him. The Lion learned how to hide his soul from the warp before he even knew basic language. The Lion really is the Bane to Curze's Batman. Just in this story Bane wins - entirely. No comeback story for Batman.

Not as a shining hero like sanguinius, not like an implacable soldier like Dorn, not like an enlightened statesman like Guilliman, not like a fanatic devot like Ferrus. He is a knight, who swore an oath to his emperor an to humanity. That's why he said "loyalty its his own reward". His goal is to respect that oath, nothing else matter.

Fun and Party There are a few Primarchs who could have been warmaster and would have done an admirable job. most of them on the loyalist side. My short list would be In order Guilliman, Dorn, Johnson, Sanguinius.
My reasoning, R&R had both ruled empires, there legions had their shit together ( no real internal conflicts)and they were generally open/honest in their dealings. Johnson, while their equal in strategy and leadship, his legion had issues that he really didn’t wish to deal with. this would bite him in the ass as warmaster.( how can you run a crusade when you cannot keep your own house in order?)
Sanguinius is last, because first he didn’t want it, he really didn’t want it, a job that important shouldn’t be done when your heart is not in it. second, the red thirst, this is a distraction such a job can’t afford.
All of these Primarchs are awesome. and the lines between then are razor close, but this would be my picks.

Is there any Primarch more loyal than The Lion? First is everything. Pride alone would not allow him to turn against his Father. Following the betrayal of Luther, I am sure the Lion has had his pride dented, in the same way Roboute has had his confidence knocked. However, on the back of that, woe betide any foe who dares face the Lion once he is brought forth from his slumber. His honour will not allow him to hide the betrayal, he will speak to his father, and with renewal born of forgiveness, the Lion and his Angels, free of their shame will rise again to lead the fight against the enemies of humanity.

ADB wrote this little short story badly as far as lore compliance and reality were concerned.
The Lion Sword dealt excruciating wounds that took primarchs WEEKS to heal and left scarring. This was according to Russ in his primarch novel.
Curze isn't shrugging it off because it isn't knitting up.
The combat scene is nonsense when Curze tackles him.
For anybody that has weapon or combat experience, it is not happening. "Lept at his brother with a howl".
Nonsense. He is not passing the Lion's en garde with a tackle, especially considering the Lion's speed, training, and combat experience.
It makes zero sense. It is bad writing.
I love the characters, the Lion, Curze, Sevatar, and Corswain. I love the dialogue, but ADB has NEVER had legitimate combat training or experience.

Konrad doesn’t really ever win through skill. He either scares the shit out of you or simply doesn’t let people guess his next move. Not to mention Konrad Is also noted to be unrealistically good at low blows. It’s not the best writing but I’ve seen worse

The more one learns of the Horus Heresy, the more the fall of the Primarch's seemed inevitable.
When Fulgrim was being Tortured by Lucius and the other captains, he said: "I am a demon. What do you think Primarch's are". I believe he might have been referring to the warp being part of their makeup and the reason for their power in comparison to the rest of Humanity. They were, for all intensive purposes, biological super weapons; imbued with powers that allowed them to perform feats that only 'Gods and Demons' can perform in the eyes of mortal men. Thus their corruption by chaos was not something that happened against their own volition; they wanted it. They saw their purpose in the Emperors eyes and rebelled against that.
    My take on it, anyway.
    Great video.

    • @fbussier80
      @fbussier80 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The primarchs are to the Emperor what Greater demons are to the Chaos gods. They are spawn from his essence, they are one of the MANY parts of him. All of them, like himself, are suceptible to the corruption of chaos if left uncontrolled. The Emperor, as the whole of himself, managed to not fall to chaos but clearly had some dealings with the chaos Gods. However, His sons being only some parts of him may have been some of the more "vulnerable" parts of him.

    • @tuor8087
      @tuor8087 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fbussier80 I agree.
All the Primarchs' possess idiosyncratic traits. The majority of Primarchs that rebelled against the Emperor and embraced Chaos, were, IMO, predisposed to their preternatural state of being. As much as their upbringings shaped their exterior, their substance was more of the warp than of the material realm.
I do hope that their creation and the Emperor's dealings with Chaos, are further explored in upcoming books.
      Nice conversing with you, brother.
