Fun fact: in Nature wolves and raven are known to help each other. Raven show wolves big prey and the wolf open the ribcage and leave some meat for the raven. There are also several documented cases of lone wolf and raven forming long term bonds aka friendship
And in norse mythology allfather Odin leads the men in the battlefield accompannied with two wolves, Freki and Geri, and carrying two ravens, Hugin and Munin, on his shoulders. In the Ragnarok, the allfather will lead gods and men against chaos in the endtimes battle.
This is why I read the title and went "not really". Usually, when things in fiction are of 'totemic' in reference, they also will share a totems natural affinity for things. Another example, Hydra: regenerative, independently operating heads working towards the same goal. Each head is still self governed. Is it anywonder that then the alpha legion operates as a terrorist cell organization? Dragons value and appreciate finery. They are a volatile creature capable of extreme warmth and care or harbingers of woe. See salamanders; understand why the third company exists.

Lorgar was just having a normal day chilling with his Daemons when he noticed a group of ravens circling overhead, "When will he relent!?" he hissed. "When we bring you back to Father in pieces, little brother." Russ answered as he approached. Lorgar shat himself, as shadow and frost descended upon him.
lorgar:...oh no....RUN! cue lorgar and his daemons running the fuck away from basically a eldritch shadow creature and basically odin leman looks utterly baffled "i...did he seriously just run? huh. he learned. neat. anyway" cue lorgar and leman hunting the choir boy fuckhead
"They had no bff's relationship..?" When a brother shows enough respect that he is willing to drive what is left of his Legio into the teeth of a 4 legio besieging force. And your tattered battlebeaten legio is willing to follow you, once more into what could well be another Istvaan. Speaks volumes of the bond between the wolves and the ravens. Then that is more then respect. Its a brothers love. Blood for blood. Brother for brother.
Corax is just the best. Human personality, emotion, and a Primarch that almost everyone fears. I believe that Russ and Corax saw much in common with one another. In a way they both were used by the Emperor as executioners. Russ used against brothers, and Corax used against rebellious planets, individuals. Both had to do it in a very hands on personal method, and both reflected on their destruction in an emotional way. Can argue as well that Emps trusted no one more than Russ and Corax. They both may have felt some distinct connection there.
I agree Matt Russ and Corax are both two sides of the same coin the wolves are in your face to crush everything that resists and the ravens gather the best Intel and fuck up the enemy's supply lines and structure so put that together you have one of the strongest forces there is
It is such a good moment, when Corax decided to fight to live rather than die. He orders a retreat to the voidships under fire from the enemy, commenting something like; "We (the 19th legion) have had extensive experiences in last-seconds extractions." Nice understated dry humor.
The Wolf and The Raven the two Primarchs that are within the Warp, what an awesome tag team to put the smack down on Lorgar or any of their traitor brothers.
Space Vikings teaming up with Space ninjas. Now that is an absolutely deadly combo. The wolves make all the noise while the ravens sneak into vulnerable areas and decimate their enemies
A year later and this is how those 2 legions should have been cannon! It is the best combo of legions combining their strengths to create the ultimate engine of war! Add in some Sisters and that is a complete death sentence for any world via utter destruction of mind. Body and soul.
I think Corax and Vulkan would be a great duo as well. I saw a meme recently with yhe caption "Both Vulkan and Corvus hate bullying but Corvys is a bit more subtle" on the picture you could see Vulkan hugging the bullied kid whilst Corvus was on the other side attacking the bullies with his claws 😅
‘Is this channel secure? Can we be overheard?’ ‘Fully encrypted,’ replied Nasturi Ephrenia. ‘I am alone as you requested, my lord.’ ‘Call me Corax,’ he said. A promontory provided a convenient seat and he lowered himself onto it to gaze out over the bustle of activity below. ‘It’s been a long time since I used that name informally,’ said the controller. ‘What has been troubling you?’ ‘You were the first face I saw, Nasturi. Alone, confused, abandoned. Yours was the first face in that cold, hard place where I woke.’ She said nothing, understanding that it was not her place to speak. Not yet. ‘I have been thinking about that moment a lot. That instant where past and future became one. What would have happened if the guards had found me first?’ ‘I don’t understand, Corax.’ ‘Could I have become something else? What is rooted in me, and what was grown by the company I kept? What if I had been raised by oppressors, and not the oppressed?’ ‘That’s impossible to answer, Corax, and you know it.’ ‘So help me. Tell me something good I’ve done. Something objectively beneficial.’ ‘You saved my life,’ she said without hesitation. ‘That moment you are talking about? A second later, you killed the guard that had been my tormentor for as long as I could remember. You gave me his head as a gift. You never knew what that meant to me. I was so close to ending it. Even at that age, I was broken, without hope. I saw what they did to the others, what waited for me. Worse, if that guard had lived. I would have died soon enough, by his hand, or mine.’ ‘I... You never spoke of this before.’ ‘I didn’t have to. I saw you rip off the head of the man that had terrified and abused me since I was born, and then I knew that everything would be all right. I knew that we could fight back, that there was justice and it was clad in white skin and black hair.’ Corax suddenly remembered their meeting with such clarity that it hurt as much as the moment when it had happened, her pain writ so large on her infant features as the guard dragged her away by the hair. He had never seen it before in this way, but he could see it now - the absolute and personal terror she had felt in the grip of that man. And her laugh, a reaction of sheer relief and delight when the young primarch had torn off the guard’s head. His eyes searched the mustering army and settled upon Bjorn, who stood alone, watching the approaching enemy, the spear of Russ driven into the hard ground by his side. ‘We named you Corvus Corax for a reason,’ she told him. ‘The Saviour.’ ‘Thank you,’ he said, and cut the vox-link.
@@xSheila_a From the book "Corax". Raven Guard anthology book during the horus heresy, it's got some really cool moments in there especially if you're a RG fan
Great Choice of moment. Weregeld is such an underrated story. The 6th Legion is finally on the ropes. Trapped, cut down to a few thousands and surrounded by a force of every Legion with an axe to grind against them. And Corax is suicidal and depressed. He wants to die with Russ and end both Legions. Such a dramatic moment.
We've always thought that Leman went into the warp because he had a vision from the emporer. What if Russ actually went into the eye of terror because he had a vision of Corvus going into the warp alone, and he was chasing after to save him? Or if the vision was from the emperor, but it was telling him what Corax was doing, and telling him to go find him?
It should be mentioned that previously when Horus, Perty and Corax were going to rip each other apart that it was actually Russ that managed to talk his brothers down.
For all the bluster Russ cared for all of his brothers. Read thousand sons and prosparo burns. When Russ get above prosparo he believes Magnus is using a person as a proxy and call the proxy in. The asks Magnus to come peacefully and spare his son's. He offers to help. It's a great moment. Even after everything he and Magnus disagree about he still trys to being him in. It's only after that he does his duty and orders the slaughter as HORUS ordered. He was going to ignore that and being Magnus back for Big E to deal with buy Horus ordered the hut knowing it would injure the wolves and make the sons join chaos.
Rho you make ideas my tiny brain couldn't think off and I thank you for you're additions to the 40k community you created and know you are highly valued.
Spoiler! The anthology where they reunite has one of the saddest and most grimdark parts in it and makes my eyes wet even thinking about it now. And I really hope Rho is talking about this scene at some point. The epilogue of Weregeld made me outright cry I have to admit. The promising and remarkable Navar Hef was one of the first corrupted Raptos and absolutely loyal to Corax, Emperor and mankind. The moment when Corax finally brought himself to go to the prison level to fulfill his promiseto cleanse the galaxy of all creatures of chaos, was truly heartbreaking. His tainted, but loyal son was waiting for him in the cell. You can clearly see the unconditional love and understanding in Navar Hef's eyes just before Corax puts him down with tears in his eyes, because he has to fullfil his oath. I post the dialogue under this for the ones who want to read it.
Found it on Reddit: The epilogue to Weregeld in the Corax Anthology: Corax paced slowly to the first cell door on the Red Level. He paused for a moment, repulsed and driven on in equal measure. It had to be done. Inside, he found a creature crouched in the corner, its skin white beneath clumps of thick black fur, its eyes round, ebon disks that stared at him without any obvious intellect. Even so, he could not ignore the similarities - the pale flesh, and the dark eyes. They had fought the war, and they had won. Now was the time to put right the assertion he had made to the sorcerer Nathrakin, on the forge world of Constanix II. 'I have made several oaths in my long life, but I have been careful to swear only those I could fulfil - except for one,' he told the beast. He crouched next to the pitiful thing and it shuffled closer, comforted by his presence, though the sight of it broke the primarch's heart. 'One I now think may be beyond me. I looked into the face of our enemy, into the heart of the force that had corrupted them. I knew that, even if we killed Horus, that power could not be eradicated completely. Chaos will return with ever greater strength if we allow it, if we give it the vessels it seeks and feed the ambitions that drive the weak to it's embrace.' Corax recognised the adoration and trust that radiated from the Deformed Raptor. He laid one massive hand upon the former legionary's head, and the fingers of the other curled around his throat. The creature's mouth worked a few times, and drool dribbled over Corax's hand and fell to the floor in thick gobbets. 'I remember everything, and I remember my exact words before I sent that fiend back into the warp-vortex that had birthed it ...' Tears stung the primarch's eyes. 'I ... I promised him that I would destroy every warp-spawned, Chaos-tainted creature in the galaxy before I die ...' The mewling, groaning thing that had been Navar Hef met his gaze. 'And I have always kept my promises, my son.'
It breaks my heart, and it makes me angry. And for their part in it, I will always and forever hate, loathe and despise the Alpha Legion for what they did to the Ravens.
@@waynegoddard4065 I´ve re-read Deliverance Lost several times and everytime Navar get´s the treatment I hope against all odds that the outcome will be different this time. But it wouldn´t be grimdark without these tragic stories.
Some Astartes are born made to carry the Aquila!! Ohhh they're red, white and blue. And when the band plays "Hail to the Emperor". They point the cannon at you, Lord!!
Ravens and wolves are a big part in norse mythology and also the 2 animals help each other in the real world maybe russ and corax clicked and have a natural bond like in real life.
As many people have said, wolves and ravens have an understanding in nature. I very much enjoy learning about the greater depths of Russ' and Corax's relationship. Less formally, I can see Loyalist Rocker and Loyalist Goth meeting up over a pint or seventeen of snakebite.
Corax and Russ are both warriors to their core, even though having different preferred fighting strategies. However while one is more quiet and reserved, the other more loud and boisterous, they are both very similar in that they are blunt and forthright, they say exactly what they mean, and they both hold their honor in very high regard. When you look at the way that Corax and Russ are similar, it makes perfect sense that they share a good relationship with one another when the same cannot be said with some of their other brothers.
I think it's safe to say that Corax and Russ are pretty close as brothers can be, considering that the Wolf King once tried to placate a very pissed off Raven Lord when the Warmaster Horus ordered him on a suicidal mission to directly assault Gate 42 in stark contrast to his style of warfare. Both of their Legions are pretty close as well, as the Space Wolves knew of the Raven Guard's dark secret as told in the Saga of the Weregeld, as the tale was known only to the Sons of Russ.
I honestly didn’t understand the complexity behind Russ before this week as i thought he was just werewolf primarch. But I’m happy to say that I’m excited to dig into the space wolves lore as there is so much more to their primarch.
If Corax and Russ meet in the eye of terror, they could seek a nice chat with Lorgar. But this time, Russ holds Lorgar in place while Corax can finally finish his talk with Lorgar
You could imagine their legions tactics meshing really well together. The Wolves getting really close in your face drawing all the attention while the Ravens circle around and flank, striking at weakpoints along the enemy lines to support the Wolves along the way. I could see Russ and Corax having a kind of epiphany moment after their first battle together like "oh shit this works REALLY well" Headcanon has them campaigning together for most of the great crusade
Imagine russ and corvus reuniting in the warp. Id Imagine it be something like. Russ and what little of his sons remained continued walking. The 'ground' had begun to turn white with snow, changing from the chared corpses of the daemons they had killed. Dead trees appeared, chared black from fire and wilted with age, but still standing tall. Russ assessed his new surroundings. Nothing but snow, trees and rocks littered the landscape. Further ahead, further than his sons could see. Russ saw a tower connected to a church. "We will settle there for the night." Said the wolf lord, pointing his axe at the building ahead of them. The vox chimed, his last remaining captain repeating his words to those who did not hear him. They continued walking. They would reach it by 'nightfall', Russ had no doubt. As Russ stepped over a fallen branch he heared a faint croak. He stopped, turned his head in the direction it came from. His sons, seeing they're father stop prepared for battle. Russ stared at the black raven that flew towards him. Judging it, seeking any deception or trickery. For many daemons had disguised themselves as animals to try and deceive him. After the third attempt, Russ had become adept at smelling the scent of trickery from the daemons. He could clearly smell the taint of the warp from this single raven. But it had no smell of the daemons that had tried to kill him, or any daemon for that matter. Russ prepared himself. Unsure of what to do. Russ watched the raven land on a frail branch. His sons had theyre bolters trained on it. Atleast those that had any bolter rounds left. The lone raven perched onto a large rock, its talons black, sleek and sharpened to a razor's edge. They moved frantically, rustling snow off of the boulder, they almost looked excited. Russ stared at the raven. Its head darting from side to side, allowing both eyes to stare at him inquisitively. Russ stared curiously at it. The raven opened it's mouth in a mimic of speech. But no sound came forth, even the raven looked confused that no sound came. Moving it's head side to side trying to fix its throat. "My lord?" Asked Ingdar. Russ's attention snapped to his son. "Should we kill it?" He asked. Russ looked back at the lone raven. He felt... familiarity with it. As though he knew this creature. Suddenly he heared another croak above him. He looked up. He expected to see another raven. Not a thousand. He and his sons didnt notice anything nor heared anything. His sons tensed further. Some turning theyre bolters upwards and other entering battle stances. Suddenly the raven perched at his feet made a sound. It sounded nearly like speech. The raven continued to make sounds that were vaguely words. Within a minute the raven was starting to sound out letters. As if it had not spoken words in millenia. One of his sons moved sharply. Startling the raven. It flew to it's brethren in the trees. Russ continued his watch. The raven was still practising letters. He also heard other ravens practising letters. Then words. Then sentences. The raven that first came spoke. Its voice is guttural and broken from millenia of disuse. "Hello... brother." End
I now want to see Corax hanging out of a Thunderhawk with a BIIIIG weapon (viewers choice), steely eyed and gunning down Traitor Marines while the ancient Terran song belts out from the voxcasters
There literally is a scene, I don't know where from though, where he is looking at a battle from a ship, and he looks at the marine manning the heavy bolter, goes over to him and just goes "give me this", tips the gun from its post and uses it like a f-king minigun. It was awesome
This makes me wish that maybe after Space Marine 2 we can have more amazing video games that may include the Primarchs as I would love to see them represented and respectively have their stories come to fold more. Imagine a heresy game where we can play as a Primarch or one of their sons fighting alongside them and seeing the same level of humanity on display like in the books. The Brother Primarchs hit me in the feels really well with their stories.
So, here is my speculation as to why their relationship was among the better ones. a. - this might be a bit counterintuitive, some might even call me heretic for saying it, but I wouldn't call Russ a warrior. I think he is a hunter instead. He is after prey his father marked for him, or after the prey he sees as worthy or in need of taking down, and that is it, he does not concern himself with things warriors do, and he is angry when someone steals "his" kill/prey. We also see this in 6th legion organization and behavior - they are basically packs of apex predators strolling through their hunting grounds, not a cohort of soldiers. Similarly, Corax too is more hunter then warrior. I hope this does not need any explanation :) So that is one common point - while different in approach, they share the hunter mentality. b. - They are both aware of their roles in the grand scheme of things, and they both accept it, because they share the same goal - uplifting humanity in accordance with Emperors plan. Knowing your goals align with someone elses goals is a plus, as far as relationships go. c. - They both see mortal humans as the core of humanity, someone they are duty bound to protect, and not just annoying weaklings - unlike number of other primarchs. That again, puts them into natural alignment, while showing they both have compassionate sides to them, which in itself helps in building friendship. d. - Now interesting thing is, I do not see any pronounced rivalry between them. And their differences would be one of the reasons for that. Russ do not see Corax as someone to compete with, simply because they are in different businesses I would say. Russ is a blunt force, weapon of mass destruction, so his rivalries are with others serving similar purpose. Lion being of course the prime example. Corax on the other hand, is a scalpel, precise tool for eliminating targets while the building needs to be left standing, so to speak. It also helps that Corax is not big on boasting and do not have a need to be the loudest one in the room. e. - I would say not being in direct competion also allows them to openly discuss their skills and problems without one of them hiding something in order to not give the other an advantage. This also ties to ability to freely express recognition of brothers skill. Both those things are parts of good relationship. f. - Also neither of them ever tried to force his views and doctrines on the other, which surely helps. Horus tried that (leading to massive bodycount for Raven Guard) and Corax hated him ever since. Overall, they share a number of traits, and sides of them that are different are complementary to each other, instead of being in direct opposition like in Russ vs Magnus case. So, yes it seems plausible to me, that they would be relatively close.
I can’t help but agree with the comments I’ve read - everything from how the raven and wolf will pair in nature to how the modes of warfare between the wolves and raven guard, while so different, meld so well. I also think that Corax is one of the few primarchs that Russ truly respects. To have his legion destroyed and all that went with it to still taking those who were left behind enemy lines taking the fight to chaos. Not the way Russ fights perhaps, but I think he sees the true warrior within Corax, the loyalty to their father. Roboute, the Lion, Manus - they were all loyal yes and fighters yes. But not quite the combination of absolutely loyalty that he and Corax were. One thing tho too that I haven’t seen spoken about. Corax was torn by his guilt for feeling he had failed their father and his sons. Russ also feels guilt that he doesn’t show much - as the emperors executioner - he has had to end the life or restrain so many of his kin. What happened with the 2nd and 11th. Russ seems to feel guilt and regret at what he was forced to do. Knowing what Corax carried in him, I suspect Russ knew that Corax would have to change - either become more the man that Russ had become himself in dealing with what had to be when it came his brothers he had to end- or Corax would fall to chaos or death. In the end Corax did become something of the Emperors executioner in his change and his pursuit of his fallen brothers. People often forget Russ’ mind and the foresight he himself had in being able to anticipate outcomes. Call me crazy but I think Russ may have seen that in his later found brother.
The Vikings held Ravens in VERY HIGH REGARD. From Huginn and Munnin, (Odins Ravens that gave him precognition and past sight, and a whole slew of other Godly Powers) and REGULAR Crows and Ravens were seen fl flying above battlefields and armies believed that they could tell which army was going to win so they were favored as birds of war and sacrifices were already made to them. The Morrigan was also the lady of ravens as was Freya and while the Morrigan was the warlike aspect Freya was a goddess who would also considered the queen of the Valkyries so Ravens played a huge part in that culture and as the space wolves are basically space Vikings, they seem to go hand-in-hand and I absolutely love my space Wolf brothers! And as for what wolf Lord rho just said, I think that would be one of the sickest stories ever is that Russ and daddy corax meet up in the eye Terror and just start kicking her ass I mean he's already beaten lower Gars ass twice and now it says waiting for him to come out so he can beat the brakes off of them and I would love absolutely love to see the other demon primarch just get their asses utterly handed to them! Also I would love to see korax explain to rust how to channel his inner empirical demon cuz could you imagine a big demon raven and a big demon werewolf just tearing ass through chaos? It makes me giddy just to think about! LOL thank you RHO, for another good video as always appreciated my brother.
Authentic people without hidden, selfish, or otherwise negative motivations will always be able to connect on a very deep level. Personality traits don't really matter when your heart is pure.
So glad to hear the pup is doing better. I don't know why Corax seemed so conciliatory towards Russ, however, I do believe that his humility rather than seemingly arrogance of some of the other Primarchs lent heavily to Russ giving Corax much more respect. Sure, Corax ISa Primarch, but he didn't carry himself like the other Russ had encountered. I think a reunion between these two would fare very well for both and I would love for it to happen one day....sooner rather than later
There tactics may be different but they are allso both hunters and trackers. And they are both two of my favourite primarcs and legions, very cool that they liked each other.
I'm sure someone else probably has made a similar comment at some point, but seeing as how so much of the sons of Fenris' lore is so taken from Nordic mythology is makes sense that the Raven would be drawn to the Wolf. Both were known companions and servants to the All-father. I'm sure there is much more to take into account in regards to the actual 30k lore, but I just find the connection between the pair of them to be a semblance of those mythological relationships. Corax learning to speak his brother's first language just taking it a step further impov.
I think it’s just an opposites attract situation. They are extremely different. But that may be what bonds them together so strongly. My brother and I are best friends. But also very different in our approach and the way we act. But those differences often foster great affection from each other.
The Lion fell asleep, Roboute practically dies and the other living Primarchs have their thing but Russ and Corax both go on crusades into the eye. They should have some sort of bond. They may both meet up in the eye at some point.
In the real world, wolves and ravens in recent years have learned to become allied with each other.. The ravens help the wolves find food or prey and the wolves in turn protect the ravens.. This mutualistic arrangement has become close enough that ravens will even play with the pups of their host wolf pack and raven families with be "loyal" to one wolf pack throughout their bloodline..
I seem to remember a short story off russ and horus fighting horus wins and walks away from a broken russ horus says u lost brother but russ just laughs and then just as horus turns to face russ he hears a loud long howl from russ and says thanks you freed me to the wulfen and horror goes on horus face
Question: What actually happened to the mutant Raven Guard that Corax created? Were they loyal abominations or mindless beasts which were put down as soon as possible?
@@sajadhoxhaj6603 They were formidable in combat, Corax had every intention to find a cure for them. Wolf Lord Rho,just thought I'd let you know, its thanks to you that I now have 40 wh40K AND primark audio books on amazon audio.a steal on the BOGOF offer and also the £3 specials.and not forgetting the Humble Bundle books too.cheers mate.
Those videos are what make me interested in W40k. Thank You for you good work. I know that for veterans of 40k it may be a stupid question. But is there a list of where to start reading 40k books in correct order?
It's actually not at all an easy question because there's little linearity between 40k novels. If you want to start the Horus Heresy series, it's a good background for the 40k world but be aware that it's a LONG series - 58 books long plus the siege of terra series which is 8 books and is the conclusion of the Horus heresy. If you want to dive into 40k directly, many recommend the Eisenhorn series starting with Xenos. But I actually dove right into a standalone book as I had a decent amount of general world understanding, The Blood of Baal. So really the key message is that there is no order. They're all standalone books and series. If you want the prequel/background, go Horus Heresy. If you want an intro into the world of 40k including humans, inquisitors, etc, go Eisenhorn series. Otherwise choose a faction or topic and just dive right in.
It makes sense that Russ and Corax would be friends if you stop to think about it, you have to remember that they do have similar values, even though they had very different upbringings. Corax was raised by slaves and led the revolt that freed them, Russ was raised as essentially a Viking. These are very different backgrounds but, both would likely instill an appreciation of the value of liberty. Corax was a liberator, and Russ lived a life of true liberty, they would both understand and value freedom and self determination above all other things, one because he knew what it was to live without it, and the other because he could conceive of no other way to live. Different paths to the same conclusion, but the same conclusion nonetheless, and those who share values make quick comrades.

Their relationship was a good one because that is how The Emperor intended it to be. Some of the Primarchs would get along, others would not. All in The Emperor’s plan. The end game after the great crusade. Highly recommend you listen to First Lord of The Imperium on audible. It’s an amazing audio drama and a eye opener.
The Therion Cohort had to die to make this meeting possible. So who really gave Marcus Valerius his Visions? Who wanted Corax alive and who wanted the Space Wulfs saved? I think Corax wrongly punished Marcus Valerius. Or did the Chaos led Corax and teh Ravenguard escape from Istvaan V? I really want to hear Wolf Lord Rho talk about this ;-)
@Wolf Lord Rho Heres what you missed out ... Wolves & Ravens always had a strong symbiotic relationship.. and this mimics that same strong bond between 2 animals
The Imperium really needs those two badass primarchs. We have Guiliman but he is a tactician not a warrior ( I mean he know how to fight ) and we need a pure blood warrior. Corax also needs to return to help Guiliman deal with the enemies ( Lord of Ultramarines cannot be everywhere ). Hope they will return to us in one piece.
So is the fight between Lorgar and Corax in The First Heretic? I've been avoiding listening to it because I'm not much of a fan of the traitor legions but the more I hear about it I think I should. Also now think I need to buy Coraxs primarch novel.
What if Corax and Leman are together in the Eye. Trying to find the Khan, and Lorgar. I would hate to have both of them on my trail. And isn't Lorgar moving in Imperial Nihilis
I'm surprised that the primarchs aren't closer. Like, there are no other beings like them, even the Emperor is on another level. Sure, they have their personalities and differences, but they have more in common I think.
Vulkan, Corax and the Wolf King are all rather human people. This is reflected in the actions of thier legions. The actions of thier sons stem from thier gene fathers. Acommon thread of moral and social decency runs through them all. I wonder how are the interactions of the sons of these primarchs with humans? Also the interactions of these primarchs with humans as compared with both loyalist and traitor legions??? Is it natural or manipualtive or what? Is it because the primarchs vulkan, russ and corax are at ease with themselves that they can simply 'be' amongst one another? Tell me a buddy cop novel named The Wolf and The Raven would be amazing? To answer your question: these two are the most human of all the primarchs save maybe Vulcan. A big and little brother with huge hearts and massive chainswords.
Reunion? Didn't they have a tiff when the wolves were getting hounded by alpha legion after prospero and the wolves asked Corax for assistance and instead of fighting they left until they found out wtf is happening first (thus the fight or die questions is more promentant) then Russ met him above terra before attacking horus and it was tense. Or am i mistaken
Maybe Russ felt the connection between him and Corax because they might share one special purpose the others don´t really have to this extend . Russ is the Emperors executioner, Corax does kind of the same in the shadows. His Primarch book depicted him as this avenging force if I remember correctly. At the end of the book (spoilers) he goes after the main villain of the story, even when he was scalded by most in the Imperium because of tactical reasons. It was hinted that the Emperor still approved Corax´ behaviour to go for the kill, because this guy had to be punished and his execution was also a message to other rebelling elements I guess.
Corax meets Russ in the Eye Russ is horrified about what Corax has become Corax assures Russ that he is still loyal to the Emperor Russ breaths a sigh of relief and ask him how he become "that" Corax says to him that he only accepted his true power Russ is confused Corax offers him to teach him they both hunt Lorga down and then search for the tree of life together Seriously now how wood be a demon loyal raven and a demon loyal wolf be together in the eye destroying everyone in their path

That's honestly very awesome.

When a brother shows enough respect that he is willing to drive what is left of his Legio into the teeth of a 4 legio besieging force.
Honestly, I think he may have trusted Rowboat even more.
Gullimen is more dedicated to order and humanity than the Emporer, making him a good backup.
I agree Matt Russ and Corax are both two sides of the same coin the wolves are in your face to crush everything that resists and the ravens gather the best Intel and fuck up the enemy's supply lines and structure so put that together you have one of the strongest forces there is
I've been a fan ever since istvaan when he stated he could kill both Logar and Conrad but would be caught by the advancing army if he did.
There's a bit of a reference to Odin from Norse mythology there who has both Wolves and Ravens by his side.

It is such a good moment, when Corax decided to fight to live rather than die. He orders a retreat to the voidships under fire from the enemy, commenting something like; "We (the 19th legion) have had extensive experiences in last-seconds extractions."
Nice understated dry humor.
The Wolf and The Raven the two Primarchs that are within the Warp, what an awesome tag team to put the smack down on Lorgar or any of their traitor brothers.

Look up bro trip 40k
During the GC ravens, salamanders and iron hands were frequently deployed together as they found that their strengths complemented each other.
Circus’s humanity touched Emps so much it convinced him to give the template for the incomplete primaris to Corax.
Corax and the raven guard are so underrated and don't get enough love in the lore. They are my favorite chapter in the imperium.
The best of all of them doing the hard parts that no other can do they also keep the others in line
Corax is a beast in combat and he just has so much humanity that you can't help but love him.
‘Is this channel secure? Can we be overheard?’
‘Fully encrypted,’ replied Nasturi Ephrenia. ‘I am alone as you requested, my lord.’
‘Call me Corax,’ he said. A promontory provided a convenient seat and he lowered himself onto it to gaze out over the bustle of activity below.
‘It’s been a long time since I used that name informally,’ said the controller. ‘What has been troubling you?’
‘You were the first face I saw, Nasturi. Alone, confused, abandoned. Yours was the first face in that cold, hard place where I woke.’
She said nothing, understanding that it was not her place to speak. Not yet.
‘I have been thinking about that moment a lot. That instant where past and future became one. What would have happened if the guards had found me first?’
‘I don’t understand, Corax.’
‘Could I have become something else? What is rooted in me, and what was grown by the company I kept? What if I had been raised by oppressors, and not the oppressed?’
‘That’s impossible to answer, Corax, and you know it.’
‘So help me. Tell me something good I’ve done. Something objectively beneficial.’
‘You saved my life,’ she said without hesitation. I would have died soon enough, by his hand, or mine.’
‘I... You never spoke of this before.’
‘I didn’t have to. I saw you rip off the head of the man that had terrified and abused me since I was born, and then I knew that everything would be all right. I knew that we could fight back, that there was justice and it was clad in white skin and black hair.’
Corax suddenly remembered their meeting with such clarity that it hurt as much as the moment when it had happened, her pain writ so large on her infant features as the guard dragged her away by the hair.
‘The Saviour.’
‘Thank you,’ he said, and cut the vox-link.
From what book is this?
@@xSheila_a From the book "Corax". Raven Guard anthology book during the horus heresy, it's got some really cool moments in there especially if you're a RG fan
Great Choice of moment. Weregeld is such an underrated story. The 6th Legion is finally on the ropes. Trapped, cut down to a few thousands and surrounded by a force of every Legion with an axe to grind against them. And Corax is suicidal and depressed. He wants to die with Russ and end both Legions.
Such a dramatic moment.
I love corax lore. Easily my second favourite primarch, just behind Vulkan.

He lives no more thanks to GW copyright….
Corax and Vulkan are awesome, been a fan of them ever since the old 3rd-ish edition White Dwarf Index Astartes. Very humble, very human.
Vulcan lives
We've always thought that Leman went into the warp because he had a vision from the emporer. What if Russ actually went into the eye of terror because he had a vision of Corvus going into the warp alone, and he was chasing after to save him? Or if the vision was from the emperor, but it was telling him what Corax was doing, and telling him to go find him?
Now that would be hell of a reunion.
When was that ?

Rho you make ideas my tiny brain couldn't think off and I thank you for you're additions to the 40k community you created and know you are highly valued.
Always liked the Raven Guard.
The Heresy really brought them into a cool place.
Found it on Reddit:
The epilogue to Weregeld in the Corax Anthology:
Corax paced slowly to the first cell door on the Red Level.
Chaos will return with ever greater strength if we allow it, if we give it the vessels it seeks and feed the ambitions that drive the weak to it's embrace.'
Corax recognised the adoration and trust that radiated from the Deformed Raptor. He laid one massive hand upon the former legionary's head, and the fingers of the other curled around his throat. The creature's mouth worked a few times, and drool dribbled over Corax's hand and fell to the floor in thick gobbets.
'I remember everything, and I remember my exact words before I sent that fiend back into the warp-vortex that had birthed it ...'
Tears stung the primarch's eyes.
'I ... I promised him that I would destroy every warp-spawned, Chaos-tainted creature in the galaxy before I die ...'
The mewling, groaning thing that had been Navar Hef met his gaze.
'And I have always kept my promises, my son.'
It breaks my heart, and it makes me angry. And for their part in it, I will always and forever hate, loathe and despise the Alpha Legion for what they did to the Ravens.
Navar Hef is easily one of the most underrated characters the Horus Heresy novels have thrown at us. Very moving stuff indeed.
@@waynegoddard4065 I´ve re-read Deliverance Lost several times and everytime Navar get´s the treatment I hope against all odds that the outcome will be different this time. But it wouldn´t be grimdark without these tragic stories.

Reminds me of that Hellraiser music video between Ozzy osbourne and Lemmy Kilmaster.
Sanguinius and his PTSD blood angels were always my favorite, but you're doing a lot to convince me that I may be a Russ fan instead
Post traumatic sanguinius disorder
I think it's safe to say that Corax and Russ are pretty close as brothers can be, considering that the Wolf King once tried to placate a very pissed off Raven Lord when the Warmaster Horus ordered him on a suicidal mission to directly assault Gate 42 in stark contrast to his style of warfare. Both of their Legions are pretty close as well, as the Space Wolves knew of the Raven Guard's dark secret as told in the Saga of the Weregeld, as the tale was known only to the Sons of Russ.
Yep, in terms of kinship, Space Wolves and Raven Guard are sworn brothers (as they are with Imperial Fists and Salamanders)
I think Russ would have a beer while watching Corax beat Lorgar from pillar to post again.
This channel is best for Emperor and Primarch Lore
I'd love to see a reunion of the two as well. Nor to mention them returning to the setting in general.
You could imagine their legions tactics meshing really well together. The Wolves getting really close in your face drawing all the attention while the Ravens circle around and flank, striking at weakpoints along the enemy lines to support the Wolves along the way. I could see Russ and Corax having a kind of epiphany moment after their first battle together like "oh shit this works REALLY well"
Headcanon has them campaigning together for most of the great crusade
interactions between primarchs are always interesting. Thanks for the video!
Corax is my favorite Primarch, thanks for putting some respect on his name.
"Hello... brother."
End
At this point in time, I can only think of one other Primarch his Wolves would have left him alone with, let alone in his comatose state: Sanguinius.
I now want to see Corax hanging out of a Thunderhawk with a BIIIIG weapon (viewers choice), steely eyed and gunning down Traitor Marines while the ancient Terran song belts out from the voxcasters

"I love the smell of promethium in the morning" ... Corax, probably.
Hell yeah! My two favorite primarchs bonding and being their usual bad ass selves.
I love your storytelling!
I hope this does not need any explanation :)
So that is one common point - while different in approach, they share the hunter mentality.
From Huginn and Munnin,
(Odins Ravens that gave him precognition and past sight, and a whole slew of other Godly Powers) and REGULAR Crows and Ravens were seen fl flying above battlefields and armies believed that they could tell which army was going to win so they were favored as birds of war and sacrifices were already made to them.

Yay! New video 😀
I think it’s just an opposites attract situation. They are extremely different. But that may be what bonds them together so strongly. My brother and I are best friends. But also very different in our approach and the way we act. But those differences often foster great affection from each other.
FANTASTIC!!!!!
Just got done reading this book, really enjoyed the Ravenguard.
The Lion fell asleep, Roboute practically dies and the other living Primarchs have their thing but Russ and Corax both go on crusades into the eye. They should have some sort of bond. They may both meet up in the eye at some point.
Yay for healthy pupper!!
From the experience iv had I find that the only people who really hate russ are people who haven't read past the burning of Prospero
Dammit, someone give Corax a hug already!
I suddenly hear the deep thudding noise of Vulcan running
I seem to remember a short story off russ and horus fighting horus wins and walks away from a broken russ horus says u lost brother but russ just laughs and then just as horus turns to face russ he hears a loud long howl from russ and says thanks you freed me to the wulfen and horror goes on horus face
Have GW stopped you reading out the passages from the text, or was it a personal choice? Great video as always.
Question: What actually happened to the mutant Raven Guard that Corax created?
Were they loyal abominations or mindless beasts which were put down as soon as possible?
They were loyal, but after time mutation were getting biggers and bigger and Corax had to kill them to give them peace...it was a sad scene
But did they see any kind of combat or were they immediately mercy killed?
The Raptor project
@@sajadhoxhaj6603 they saw a lot of combat under Commander Branne they were the raptors
@@sajadhoxhaj6603 They were formidable in combat, Corax had every intention to find a cure for them. But as the campaign progressed so did the degradation of their minds, and Corax perception of them - Initially they were locked away. But for the most prominent Raptor, this was his faith:
Corax paced slowly to the first cell door on the Red Level. He paused for a moment, repulsed and driven on in equal measure.
It had to be done.
Inside, he found a creature crouched in the corner, its skin white beneath clumps of thick black fur, its eyes round, ebon discs that stared at him without any obvious intellect. Even so, he could not ignore the similarities - the pale flesh, and the dark eyes.
They had fought the war, and they had won. Now was the time to put right the assertion he had made to the sorcerer Nathrakin, on the forge world of Constanix II.
‘I have made several oaths in my long life, but I have been careful to swear only those I could fulfil - except for one,’ he told the beast. He crouched next to the pitiful thing and it shuffled closer, comforted by his presence, though the sight of it broke the primarch’s heart. ‘One I now think may be beyond me. I looked into the face of our enemy, into the heart of the force that had corrupted them. I knew that, even if we killed Horus, that power could not be eradicated completely. Chaos will return with ever greater strength if we allow it, if we give it the vessels it seeks and feed the ambitions that drive the weak to its embrace.’
Corax recognised the adoration and trust that radiated from the deformed Raptor. He laid one massive hand upon the former legionary’s head, and the fingers of the other curled around his throat. The creature’s mouth worked a few times, and drool dribbled over Corax’s hand and fell to the floor in thick gobbets.
‘I remember everything, and I remember my exact words before I sent that fiend back into the warp-vortex that had birthed it...’
Tears stung the primarch’s eyes.
‘I... I promised him that I would destroy every warp-spawned, Chaos-tainted creature in the galaxy before I die...’
The mewling, groaning thing that had been Navar Hef met his gaze.
‘And I have always kept my promises, my son.’
Makes sense on a few levels. Vikings and Ravens, mythology.
Wolf Lord Rho,just thought I'd let you know, its thanks to you that I now have 40 wh40K AND primark audio books on amazon audio.a steal on the BOGOF offer and also the £3 specials.and not forgetting the Humble Bundle books too.cheers mate.

He didn’t need to hear him to know what’s going on. They’re bonded by choosing to stay united with the imperium.
Clorox doesn't have an ego. That's what I find. So great about him
Those videos are what make me interested in W40k.
Corax... the only Primarch that made beating another Primarch look easy.
Surprised you glossed over Russ admitting "I failed!" To Corax as he wept.
Rho doesnt like to throw shade at his favorite 😄
@@Ireland609 that wouldn't be throwing shade tho every primarch failed sanguinius is dead,

I really want to hear Wolf Lord Rho talk about this ;-)
Sangunius is probably the only other primarch the wolves would let near Russ in such a weakened state
@Wolf Lord Rho Heres what you missed out ... Wolves & Ravens always had a strong symbiotic relationship.. and this mimics that same strong bond between 2 animals
I wonder if Black Library is ever going to come up with a "Great Crusade" series with stories and interactions of the Legions before the heresy.
I suspect the Wolf King has ambushed, or at least snuck up on Corax a couple of times.
Is there a part of the lore where the space wolves, (in particular Bjorn,) fight along with the Emperor?
So is the fight between Lorgar and Corax in The First Heretic? I've been avoiding listening to it because I'm not much of a fan of the traitor legions but the more I hear about it I think I should. Also now think I need to buy Coraxs primarch novel.
Yes that fight does happen in that book. Although one big issue in it is how Custodes are represented.
BRING ON THE FLYING WOLF TAG TEAM!!!
Didn’t Russ learn both High and Low Gothic on the trip from Fenris to Terra?
Took him a week to learn high gothic, but kept a pretty decent conversation with Horus after only 4 days
I take it this takes place before Vukan shoves and locks Corax in the engine of woes.
hey rho this is everyone
What if Corax and Leman are together in the Eye. Trying to find the Khan, and Lorgar. I would hate to have both of them on my trail. And isn't Lorgar moving in Imperial Nihilis
I'm surprised that the primarchs aren't closer. Like, there are no other beings like them, even the Emperor is on another level. Sure, they have their personalities and differences, but they have more in common I think.
Goddam we love you Corax.
List of the coolest primarchs:
1. Corax
(8 Miles of Bad Road)
2. Leman
3. Everybody Else
4. Screw Lorgar
Primarchs (1) Lion El'Jonson: Lacks emotional and social intelligence
Primarchs (2) The Lost and Damned:
Primarchs (3) Fulgrim: I've no idea how he was before he got that sword
Primarchs (4) Perturabo: a bit too serious, head up his arse
Primarchs (5) Jaghatai Khan: Sound when you get to know him
Primarchs (6) Leman Russ: Very human
Primarchs (7) Rogal Dorn: rigid strong moral fibre
Primarchs (8) Konrad Curze: proper mentral
Primarchs (9) Sanguinius: would be interesting to see this gent mix it with russ and corax
Primarchs (10) Ferrus Manus: don't know anything other than his engineering
Primarchs (11) Angron: proper mentalist
Primarchs (12) Roboute Guilliman: rigid af
Primarchs (13) Mortarion: proper mentalist
Primarchs (14) Magnus: nice guy who got miss led
Primarchs (15) Horus Lupercal: CHAD
Primarchs (16) Lorgar Aurelian: OH JEESE
Primarchs (17) Vulkan: VERY HUMAN
Primarchs (18) Corvus Corax: very human
Primarchs (19) Alpharius/Omegon: DIFFICULT to get to know, might be good blokes
Tell me a buddy cop novel named The Wolf and The Raven would be amazing? To answer your question: these two are the most human of all the primarchs save maybe Vulcan. A big and little brother with huge hearts and massive chainswords.
Yes there are both very different but both brothers should realize how effective each other's way of life/warfare is. It's a yin yang kinda thing
Or am i mistaken
than was the Khan.
@@FoxHound-ut1hu Ah thats right :D lol thank you :)
I think vulkan and Russ could of had similar meeting without SW pissed cause vulkan always been chilling and even gave Russ a weapon
Is this from a book? And if so, which one?
Maybe Russ felt the connection between him and Corax because they might share one special purpose the others don´t really have to this extend . Russ is the Emperors executioner, Corax does kind of the same in the shadows. His Primarch book depicted him as this avenging force if I remember correctly. At the end of the book (spoilers) he goes after the main villain of the story, even when he was scalded by most in the Imperium because of tactical reasons. It was hinted that the Emperor still approved Corax´ behaviour to go for the kill, because this guy had to be punished and his execution was also a message to other rebelling elements I guess.
Corax is the ayrton senna of the 40k world
Corax meets Russ in the Eye
Russ is horrified about what Corax has become
Corax assures Russ that he is still loyal to the Emperor
Russ breaths a sigh of relief and ask him how he become "that"
Corax says to him that he only accepted his true power
Russ is confused
Corax offers him to teach him
they both hunt Lorga down and then search for the tree of life together
Seriously now how wood be a demon loyal raven and a demon loyal wolf be together in the eye destroying everyone in their path
