This and the last video changed my ranking of Rogal Dorn compared to the other primarchs. Before these. Rogal was near the bottom of my favorite primarchs. Now he is near the top. Close to Sanguinius. It is amazing to me how just 2 scenes can inject so much character and personality. Before he seemed like a simple obedient lap dog to the Emperor. Now he seems like a paragon of virtue. Before he seemed like someone who just hide behind walls. Now he seems like one of the greatest strategic masters. Kept close to home, like the Adeptus Custodies.
Interesting Series. You should do a video on Garro bringing news of Horus and the betrayal to Royal Dorn and his subsequent reaction to this. One of the best scenes of the Heresy Books. Another one you could do is Dorn disowning Sigismund.
When you think about it, my man Dorn is the ONLY loyalist primarch that scored kill on a traitor* primach. Curze being killed by assassin and Horus by Emperor. Let that sink in. *yeah I'm not going in to this debate about Alpha Legion, no thank you.
@@Ashtor1337 that’s not actually confirmed. Fun fact, The lost primarchs aren’t actually confirmed to be dead. Yeah, it’s hinted and implied but they are generally referred to as “lost”, not dead. Another fun fact: A new custodes codex revealed that there is a being in dark cells known as “Subject XI” or subject 11. With some other teases in the lore, it’s entirely possible the primarch of the 11th legion is actually being imprisoned in the dark cells
Rogal Dorn reminds me as being so similar to Judge Dredd. Maybe cast from a specific archetypal mold. Dorn is clearly a far nobler interpretation if so. Judge Dredd being more Grim-dark like Batman.

Repeating and bellowing the cries of the death of the hydras head. Stoking the flames of his resurgence.

Of his own volition no less... The Horus Heresy was truly a breaking moment for all involved.

I feel so bad about this. They shouldn't have fought. This feels so wrong. They are Primarchs. They stand so close and so far from each other. What a great book!
I have been an Alpha legion fan for years. I loved the idea of Space marines working like the CIA or Mossad. Thinking up all the crazy conspiracy's that Alpharius and the Alpha Legion might be up to. This book killed all my enthusiasm, it turns out that Apharius was just some shlep that got killed 10 thousand years ago. I guess no one was Alpharius.
@@jeremysiegel10 Sadly it was Alpharius. As fun, interesting, and in all actuality, good (seeing as how he was tricked into joining chaos in an attempt to destroy it), as Alpharius was, it was him and he died. There is the other half to this story from Omegon's perspective. Alpharius and Omegon were linked to each other to the point they could sense each other in some way. Before anyone in the Alpha legion knew what happened, Omegon knew that his twin brother had died through their connection. You read it from his perspective, so it's not just posturing picked up by one of the Alpha legionaries. When Alpharius dies Omegon realizes internally that he is, for the first time, actually alone. Their connection is not something they can trick or fake (and why would Alpharius want to?). So unfortunately it was Alpharius. Also, no one, but another Primarch could hold their own like that against another Primarch. The Primarchs where just leagues above even the best champions of the legions. I am a Lion fan, but Alpharius is hands down my second favorite Primarch. When I read this I hoped that he hadn't _really_ died, but then I read Omegon's perspective, which confirms it. On the other hand Omegon and Alpharius are kinda one and the same, so even though Alpharius dies, Omegon lived at least until he fought Bobby G (don't know if this is actually confirmed though and might be an actual fake out).
Hey don't be sad... He keeps up the I am alpharius for 10000 years. Rogal gets his hands chopped off and dies or hides for that time. Part of me wonders what Alpharius was trying to tell Dorn. Dorn, of course, couldn't risk a moment's hesitation so his focus and will had to be absolute. A bad calculation on Alpharius' part but still, why the risk? Was it worth it trying to reason with Dorn?
@@fmbrown8566 that doesnt sound like victory for humanity though. If that was what Alpharius wanted to say to Dorn then it would have been as Dorn never heard them at all.

Jamescawl I didn’t say they should, they definitely shouldn’t. I would continue to fight in their shoes. But that is a truth and a important one, because even if chaos manages to win in the end, they would have lost too. But that’s no reason to just let it happen, because there are other possibilities to defeat chaos
Alpharius has always been a weasel. Dorn, the exact opposite. Dorn wasn’t about to entertain his talk. Not a chance. This primarch fight was excellent, imo tied for the best with the final Lion vs. Curze fight.
Not a weasel Alpharius didn't want to kill Dorn. He wanted to tell him some extremely important. But Dorn is stubborn and inflexible to a fault and kills Alpharius before he can speak. I personnes believe he was gonna reveal the plan of infiltrating the traitors from the inside but Dorn fucks it up cause he's a rock brain
It feels like they had no idea what to do with Alpharius and they just threw him away. The Primarch of assassins and spies would easily have had a better end game plan than this, and would have known better than to try and engage Dorn in open combat. Alpharius deserved a much better send off in my opinion.
Chapter Master Marneus Calgar wouldn’t be the first time guiliman got a cheapshot by one of his brothers for a previous altercation. Monarchia ring a bell lord Calgar?
I think a reformed Fulgrim clone will get it. The regent's sword to the lord regent, the claw of the emperor to the falcon of the emperor. The two eagles of the aquila (Phoenician and "Roman") reforging the Imperium for a new age. I see Dorn's role as the man on the wall, the final line of defense against oblivion. When the throne falters, the gate will open and Terra will face an incursion of Chaos like none before. Make no mistake, Dorn will hold the line, not giving an inch.
Hey! super nice content, can you please put up a review on books, and what order to read them in etc, a compilation of good books, and please put up the books you reference from in the text for easier google searches.
I still have trouble believing that Alpharius would agree with the Cabal that the right thing to do was to sacrifice the entire human race in order to starve the chaos gods.
I think this may have been one of the first of your vids I found... listening again! I would love to see some flash back scene where alpharius and omegon fought side by side...
I can't help but see a few parallels between Alpharius and Dooku's death. Both lose their hands at the wrist and both lose their head, yes in different directions, but you gotta agree there's some similarities. Having played Dorn on the table top I know what a beast he can be in combat. My old friendship group used to play big 3 vs 3 battles and even did a Primarch-off to see who could take the most hits, and despite my usual fluffed to wound rolls, Dorn stood his ground against most of them. How I'd love for those days to return, though this time I may just have 2 Primarch's to bring to the table.
If you think about it, Alpharius put up a damn good fight against Dorn, considering Dorn's reputation. But the thing is, the Alpha Legion has twin Primarchs, if they ever fought together while Alpharius was alive they would have been unstoppable
Wolf Lord .... So Dorn took off Alpharius' arms/hand.... would it be a good theory to say that the Alpha legion have Dorn prisoner and that they left his hand behind as a message of vengance to his sons??
Regarding the block attempt, by Dorns wingman, it's quite obvious that it was written to convey two points: 1) The power of the Primarchs is well beyond him (the wingman.) He swung with all his might, and he recoiled as if struck by lightning. 2) Though he wasn't strong enough to even redirect the thrust, the energy that went into him, sending him reeling, is energy that didn't go into Dorn! Hence, his effort wasn't in vain, not entirely. Instead of the blow landing into Dorn with 25,000 LBs of momentum, it only landed with 15,000-20,000 LBs, etc.
Rogal Dorn is a very black and white primarch. If Dorn and Horus had changed places ie down been made the warmaster would things have turned out the same?
I have always thought that Alpharius was a bad a$$. Initially they potrayed him as less capable that his brother Primarchs, always fighting in the shadows, using tactics not in favor of others. It is true, the way he was is because he was designed that way. Well there is still one of the twins alive. Great video!
this book was weird. The character of Alpharius was not very consistent with earlier depictions in Legion. The book wants us to think that he can orchestrate espionage so subtle and intricate that it is basically anime evil genius level, yet he seems to have no actual plan when he confronts his brother at the end. As a big fan of Legion, i couldn't help but feel that the last quarter of this book was pretty disappointing. as cool as the fight was, Alpharius's plans seemed pretty crap. All the same story beats could have been achieved without making him a joke. When Fulgrim thought he could corrupt Ferrus, there was some kind of reason for him to think that. These two primarchs have no emotional connection really to play upon, so he is a fool to try the tactic he ended up using. He could have, say, rigged the whole floor of the room with charges to drop the entire temrinator squad several floors down and then rain fire on them in the wreckage from above. the confrontation would have made more sense, and Dorn's underling already on the station could have intervened to give Dorn an opening to strike him down when he had already thought he had victory.
Unless he planned to die. Alpharius and Omegon are smaller and weaker than the other Primarchs. They admitted as much when they stood before Horus. They were never ment to go toe to toe with their siblings.

He knows this will then rebound on others, temporarily throwing them off and that is when he delivers the killing blow. In short when you finally think you have Dorn "beat" that is when you are in the most danger because he doesn't react the same as the others in a fight.

I always thought Malcador, Alpherius and Ormagon were working together. He truly wanted to say something. Something... important.
Mike Cat would not surprise me. Malcador is a master at espionage, and so are Alpha legion.
Very bittersweet for Alpharius.
Remember malcador playing out the heresy with the tarot and regicide game. If Dorn ever struck out with his legion from Terra the twins would turn traitor openly and take Terra.
@@Sumzja warp prediction is as unpredictable as they come, the Cabal made a prediction and they were a big group of perpetuals, and yet eventhough the Legion made its choice it didnt come true.
Eldars can see the future doesnt mean it comes true, Malcador and the Emperor made plans fir the Primarchs and never predicted Chaos would try to catch them.
The tarot is just a metaphoric heresy a possible future especially when Chaos was undivided
@@Freedmoon44 after reading the latest SoT, seems like the cabal either mislead or were completely fooled into thinking wiping the human race would save the galaxy. Because from what it sounds like, chaos wiping out humanity would birth another Chaos god; Malice? Like something the eldars experienced, wouldn’t they have known…
Dorn is a legit gangster for that entrance. Love it.
How not to hesitate
Alpharius: Brother!
Dorn: Swords not words!
Rest well Omegon. You were a loyal son of the Emperor.
This type of stuff makes me sad Ferrus died so early and got no spotlight to be badass
He had an epic spotlight. His fight with fulgrim is too epic. In the mix of all the carnage of the battle on Istvaan V the two closest brother fight. Obiwan/Ani fight level tragic.
Ferrus had to die early, if Ferrus had a chance to lead any actual offenses, he would have ended at least 2 traitor primarchs himself. The only chance the traitors had was to take out Ferrus in an ambush. I'd say that and what we saw of him before the Heresy prove his status.
@@xeonespydonum4995 could you elaborate or have books you'd recommend?
@@ryanpennington8108 Not only did the traitors stoop to an ambush, they were sure to pit Ferrus against Fulgrim, his closest friend. They needed him to hesitate, even without time to prepare. The Gorgon was a ruthless machine at eye's glance, ready to slay the worst the galaxy had to throw at him, even unarmed. However, he was far more human than his gleaming metal hands let on, and Fulgrim didn't need much hesitation. Sadly, there aren't many books on The Iron Hands, let alone in the Great Crusade era.
@@xeonespydonum4995 this makes me wonder considering Ferrus didn’t wear the full power armor gauntlets and fist around his arms and that he didn’t have his helmet on in his battle would his outcome with fulgrim be any different? We already know power armor and fibre muscle massively increase already super human astartes strength but for a primarch that especially has necrodermis? He could just bitch slap anyone even until his armor on his hands breaks
Dorn is the most awesome Primarchs in my opinion - the consummate soldier and general. No BS, No ulterior motive. He is what a space marine should be.
a mindless, and predictable warrior? not so awesome to be. He has one thing going for him really, whereas some other primarchs have what Dorn has to an extent, and much more
@The Old One , That's not saying much. Alpharius is physically smaller and weaker than the other Primarchs. They, Alpharius or Omegon, say as much when they stand before Horus. The real question is why would he go toe to toe with another Primarch. They have established multiple times the Primarchs can sense each other. Your smaller, weaker, slower and can not hide. . . Why fight?

In your opinion yes, objectively? Not even close, cuz u kinda just described jakatai khan, he has pretty much overcome every battle he's fought, made the right decisions nearly always, definitely alot more than other primarchs, he has some of the best if not the best lines of any primarch in terms of wisdom and he is also the only primarch to actually approach the idea of "loyalist primarch" in the most reasonable way, as far as no bs, no ulterior motives, all around great general goes? yh thats the khan

Honestly the news of isstvan via the astropathic choir, I believe in Outcast Dead, was a more epic news event in it's presentation.
When you think about it, my man Dorn is the ONLY loyalist primarch that scored kill on a traitor* primach. Curze being killed by assassin and Horus by Emperor. Let that sink in.
*yeah I'm not going in to this debate about Alpha Legion, no thank you.
Russ has killed 2. Confirmed by Russ and Magnus. That is his and the wolves purpose. To kill the others of they get out of line.
Well read and great commentary. Dorn is fast becoming my favourite Primarch.
Such a grand video, Rho. Your work is so very appreciated. Thank you for the quality content.
Wow that was freaking Awesome. Great Narration.
Rogal Dorn reminds me as being so similar to Judge Dredd. Maybe cast from a specific archetypal mold. Dorn is clearly a far nobler interpretation if so. Judge Dredd being more Grim-dark like Batman.

The very pinnacle of precise, practical, and imaginative writing.

Anzu Wyliei i don’t think dorn was goaded at all. The way it is written is that they had to attone for their sins and this was the way to do it. Bwahahahaha! This is marvelous. Everyone keeps saying, making very specific note, of how dead Alpahrius is.
The sheer level of Alpharius's deception knows no bounds. No limits. It even permeates through the 4th wall into the minds of writers and therein, coiled into the mindsets of all who look upon their works. Repeating and bellowing the cries of the death of the hydras head. Stoking the flames of his resurgence.
2 years later and this is still epic!
I just imagine Dorn going through the fight in his head like Sherlock Holmes in the Robert Downey Jr movie

Your narration of a specific segment of primarchs has you up there with other TH-camrs. ItalianSpartacus for one! Plus the only feeling that I had from the entire battle was just sadness.
Sadness that Rogal was forced to steel his emotions as he killed his brother even if they never got along. The with Alpharius since he believed that what he was doing was beneficial to mankind, as shown when he faced Dorn and said that he was willing to give him the victory here.

That's what they want you to believe :D
Joel Craig I fully agree with you. I didn’t like this book for this L Nigh shamilan twist
I don't think it was actually alpharius
And after all the sweet spy nonsense alpharius did and the fact he's a twin did you not think they were gonna kill him or omegon? Part of me wonders what Alpharius was trying to tell Dorn. Dorn, of course, couldn't risk a moment's hesitation so his focus and will had to be absolute. A bad calculation on Alpharius' part but still, why the risk? Was it worth it trying to reason with Dorn?
K S alpharius knew that humanity dying meant chaos dying, so if humanity loses, so does chaos. I’m pretty sure the emperor knew this too
@@fmbrown8566 that doesnt sound like victory for humanity though.
If that was what Alpharius wanted to say to Dorn then it would have been as Dorn never heard them at all.
Jamescawl still the truth tho
@@fmbrown8566 But do you expect that Dorn and Loyalists would just then lay down their arms waiting for death?
It is "A" truth, but there are many truths during the Horus Heresy and humanity doesnt need to listen to the xenos interpretation of truths.
The Galaxy was wide enough for Dorn and Alpharius.
I wonder why the alpha Legion wasn't rushing Dorn after he cut his arms off
Because they aren't space wolves of course!
Because they are Alpharius, so one Alpharius dying makes little difference. Just have two more Alpharii take his place.
I think by the end of the year if you keep this up you might have 50k subs maybe 100 crazy to think man.
Love your page man! Keep it coming
It feels like they had no idea what to do with Alpharius and they just threw him away. The Primarch of assassins and spies would easily have had a better end game plan than this, and would have known better than to try and engage Dorn in open combat. Alpharius deserved a much better send off in my opinion.
Sorta random. But if Rogal Dorn does return do you think he will be gifted the emperors power claw?
If he does return he's going to punch Guiliman into the ground because of what happened to the Imperial Fists Chapter during the War of the Beast

Alpharius seriously under-estimated Dorn. everyone under-estimates Dorn
Perturabo didn't though, he played Dorn like a fiddle before he ascended to Demonhood.

johan smifthelry that book was amazing, Dorn and Alpharius BOTH underestimated each other in that.
I think this may have been one of the first of your vids I found... listening again! I would love to see some flash back scene where alpharius and omegon fought side by side...

Yeah that’s an amazing scene.
the thing is dorn can be reasoned with, people often say he can't be when they're offering what is antithetical to reason to him as if it were reason.
"Fire" *chills*
I can't help but see a few parallels between Alpharius and Dooku's death. Both lose their hands at the wrist and both lose their head, yes in different directions, but you gotta agree there's some similarities.
Having played Dorn on the table top I know what a beast he can be in combat. My old friendship group used to play big 3 vs 3 battles and even did a Primarch-off to see who could take the most hits, and despite my usual fluffed to wound rolls, Dorn stood his ground against most of them. How I'd love for those days to return, though this time I may just have 2 Primarch's to bring to the table.
That's one OP chainsword.
Storm's Teeth is a primarch killer
If you think about it, Alpharius put up a damn good fight against Dorn, considering Dorn's reputation.
But the thing is, the Alpha Legion has twin Primarchs, if they ever fought together while Alpharius was alive they would have been unstoppable
I think there's a reason Omegon didn't help Alpharius 👀
That what doesn't make sense. Alpharius knew he was smaller and weaker than the rest of the Primarchs. Him trying to go one on one is just stupid...
This video made me truly appreciate Dorn and his stoic nature.
Wolf Lord .... So Dorn took off Alpharius' arms/hand.... would it be a good theory to say that the Alpha legion have Dorn prisoner and that they left his hand behind as a message of vengance to his sons??
What is that song in the background!!?
Regarding the block attempt, by Dorns wingman, it's quite obvious that it was written to convey two points:
1) The power of the Primarchs is well beyond him (the wingman.) He swung with all his might, and he recoiled as if struck by lightning.
The old Jorah Mormont tactics from game of thrones. Tank the superior combatant when he looses his weapon then spank him...
Rogal Dorn's Colossal Chainblade, the book.
I'm going to ask in every video of yours lol they're fantastic to listen to but I must know where Did you obtain the background calming music?
One of the few Primarchs to kill another primarch. Dorn had that position fortified AF. Always thought Alpharius was kinda lame. This proves it.
He came to die to reveal the flaws in Dorn's fortifications.
Pretty sure based on the recent book called Head of the Hydra that it turns out that my brother Omegon met his end here.
Climbing up a space scythe through the chest to rip a primarch's head off with bare hands seems slightly more badass.
I think based off the armor it's actually Omegon and Alpharius is brooding for 10,000 years being a secret loyalist.
Can you do some perturabo videos? You very good at reading this all out. Love your videos
