I googled this guy, and apparently this statement is not necessarily true; There was a child missing and Tarrare was accused of eating it, but they were never able to prove it.
Schnitzel_Stephan. Mate this guy ate a cat alive, a child would have been brunch. It seems very plausible that he would eat an infant due to lack of morals and self control. It’s extremely sad as he most likely had multiple diseases and his life sounds like living hell.

Apparently, he was cognizant, but not particularly smart. So he was probably of below avarage intelegence but still functional. You know, aside from the whole eating thing. Whether his issues came from cognitive issues or if he was just too distracted by his never ending hunger, i don't know

What I find to be the craziest about Tarrare is the fact that he ate that eel. Eel blood is extremely deadly (when raw, the poison is nullified when cooked) and causes your heart to stop even from very small amounts, and yet somehow he ate an entire raw eel and was fine.
Digestion destroys the poison, it's deadly when injected in your blood directly. But yeah in general eels aren't safe to eat raw.
Honesty it seems like his body didn’t actually absorb anything from the food and just passed it. Which would mean the eel blood never got into his bloodstream

For those who don't know, before he was diagnosed with advanced tuberculosis, Tararre told Doctor Percy that he believed his declining health was due to a golden fork he eat two years prior and believed was lodged inside him.

In all honesty he ate a eel,garbage,killed a cat by ripping it in half and tried to eat dead human bodies and was caught drinking human blood,so in all honesty I'm not surprised he ate a human child it would happen sooner or later and who knows what else he ate in his lifetime.
Some extra things left out in the video:
He apparently was always burning hot and would get hotter the more he ate, so much so that there were visible vapors reeking off him.
The skin around his torso apparently stretched so far that he could wrap it around his fucking waist like a goddamn skin blanket.
The surgeon-in-chief of the hospital, Baron Percy, stated this of Tarrares animal eating escapades: "The dogs and cats fled in terror at his aspect, as if they had anticipated the kind of fate he was preparing for them"
Apparently Tarrare died from eating a fork which they never actually found during the autopsy. Though this is just speculation on behalf of Terrare himself.
Also, his corpse rotted much faster than a usual corpse (not a big surprise) so much so that the surgeons at the hospital originally completely refused to perform the autopsy on that literal hellspawn.

He was considered sane, too. No indication that he was suffering from any real mental condition. Imagine just being fully conscious of how degrading and horrible it is to eat all that garbage and fight stray dogs for food but you literally have to do it because you are completely consumed by ravenous hunger and no matter how well you may know on a rational level that eating bodies is horrifying you still do it because you are just that hungry and you have no real choice.

Fun fact for those still discovering this video: at roughly the same point in history as Tarrare's life, a Polish man named Charles Domery was found to have a very similar upbringing, also became a Prussian war soldier, and had almost the exact same symptoms as Tarrare.
However, Tarrare's name was never confirmed to be his legal name, and the only proof of Charles Domery's existence is one medical journal from 1799 penned by Drs. J. Johnston and Thomas Cochrane.
Therefore, it's possible that Tarrare and Domery may have been the same person under different aliases.

Hearing about him, I want to know what caused the physical characteristics. The thought that a human could have an oesophagus wide enough to see into the stomach is terrifying, but was that from birth or just an adaptation from all the odd things he ate over the years?
Every time I remember this guy existed, I go online to see if there is anything that we know now about medicine that can describe whatever Tarrare had. We seem to not fully know still, but there's some that suggest he had hyperthyroidism and/or damage to the amygdala, resulting in extreme hunger and being constantly rail thin.
I think he might have had that one condition where his brain doesn't know he's full, making him constantly hungry and feeling like he needs to eat all the time. But I have no idea.
@@shadowdroid776 I’ve heard of those conditions, but I agree that such conditions don’t fit fully with what Terarre displayed. I can only hypothesise he had a few conditions and his body somewhat adapted to his habits, but I’m no expert in biology.

There was a similar man, known as Charles Donery/Donerz who was (supposedly) a Pole ser:ing in Prussian army.
The notable differences were that Donery started exhabiting symptoms at 13, was considered quite handsome, looked absolutely normal and was sweating mostly around the time of his sleep.
It is also worth to note that he claimed that his many siblings suffered from the same condition and that like them his father preferred raw meat and ate a lot (he couldn't exactly remember if it was as abnormal as in his case)
He most notably ate grass, candles, live cats (he killed them first if he wasn't particularily starving), rats and tried to eat a severed leg of his fellow soldier once but was stopped.
Other than that he was absolutely normal, liked to smoke tobacco and it seemed that he suffered much less than Tararre, because none of the accounts of him seem to indicate he was in particular distress due to his condition
Oh and he also fought in the war of the first coalition, just at the Prussian side

This is genuinely scarier than most horror movies.

Panicked whispers ensue, and then screams, and panicked loading of muskets. The figure gets closer, and shots ring out, but they are too late. Tarrare grabs a soldier and eats him whole. They fire more shots, but in vain. Tarrare eats the entire freaking army.

People really tend to overthink tararres anatomy, really its clear he was just born with an extremely abnormal and inefficient digestive tract. He could eat all he wanted but would never absorb very much for nutrients, so he would ALWAYS feel starving, no matter how physically full he was. He would have been in constant agony and starving his whole life, that kind of torture would make anyone crazy enough to eat anything.

@@sladefad755 They all had it horrible. Tarrare was incessantly, literally starving, and that desperation led to him going insane, then eating everything alive or otherwise. There was no way to help him back then which he went to that hospital for in the first place. If anything, he should've been killed years earlier, because there was seriously no other way to stop him without leaving him to suffer and starve to death or feed him all of the available food, starving everyone else. It's all morals and rage until people take at least ten seconds to think critically.

SEVERAL of said chemicals are found in meat, especially liver. Tarrare's favorite.) I also believe he may have had LTBP4-RELATED CUTIS LAXA, which is a rare genetic condition in which individuals have hyper elastic, stretched out skin (especially common on the trunk of the body) and widening of the esophagus, throat, stomach, and intestine. Also his facial features, the wide face and extremely large down turned mouth. Even just this combined with Prader-Willi would produce almost all of the symptoms he exhibited. The unluckiest genetic dice roll ever.
A Dr. Moore theorized him having an enlarged hypothalamus (the part of the brain that controls hunger and regulates body temperature) as well as pica (a disorder that makes people eat inedible things) and a parasite due to his low weight.

Like the stretchy skin, widened esophagus and intestine, his putrid smell, the profuse sweating, and strange facial features. Pica is usually a person compelled to eat just one or two inedible things like plastic or chalk. Tarrare would literally eat ANYTHING he could swallow, a classic symptom of Prader-Willi. Parents of children who have this have to keep all food, including the refrigerator, under lock and key. They also have to be constantly supervised or they will eat trash and even animals. Cutis LAXA also effects the body's ability to digest nutrients, in addition to the other EXTREMELY similar physical abnormalities exhibited by Tarrare. It would be really interesting to exhume his body and run genetic testing, but I understand that's impossible.
