    hi! so this comes with the 2-hole steam wand, would it make a difference in terms of frothing if i swapped it for a 4-hole or does the boiler power not enough anyways?

    Rocket Appartamento....If one uses filtered water, should one need to use the Rocket Water Filter? also since the boiler is copper, is it lined inside to prevent leaching of
    the metal into the water? Thanks!!

    Hi guys thanks for the advice - from your reviews I have recently bought an appartamento (awesome machine btw) and this morning when I switched it on it heated up and works as normal however the green light has stopped working ??

    I love the look of this machine, with the big valves. Are they sprung? It's a bit out of my price range (was looking at an Expobar Lever) but it does look nice. Do you not miss the brew head pressure gauge?

    I am beginning to serve nitro brew to my gym but would also like to get a nice little espresso machine to learn ok then move to a two group commercial type. Would this machine be able to hold up to maybe 5 or 6 people wanting espressos within 10 minutes?

    Does that copper boiler have lead??
    Also, now that it's been a year since you made this video, is there anything you'd like to comment on that could help in my big decision?
    I'm looking to for a Home Use machine, needing about 15-20 espresso shots per day. Thanks!

    +Seattle Coffee Gear How long does the Appartamento last? How long is it supposed to last. I am going back and forth between the linea mini and the appartamento and I would assume the linea will last longer. but if it is about the same I could go with a lesser espresso for 3,000$ less. Also does the appartamento come with a stainless steel portafilter? and if not can you buy one separately? Let me know if possible! Thanks!

    Been looking to replace my 14 year old Oscar. Yes 14 years. It has served us well and has been very reliable with only a few wearable parts and proper cleaning and maintenance. I decided to buy the Rocket Appartamento from you. Main reason is the ease of maintenance on the group head and valves. The timed pour of the Oscar was my hang up. Second reason Is the steam lever on the top of the Oscar. Third and final reason is it doesn't look like a Hamilton Beach product you get at Walmart.

    Gail,
    Does the pre infusion happen automatically when the lever is fully engaged?
    Also, I'm planning on purchasing the sette 270 or 270w when it comes out. Until that time, I have an encore to work with. Will it be good enough?

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Seung Wook Jeon The lever has a halfway point, which begins the pre infusion. Then you lift the level the full way to begin extraction. Your Encore won't work well with this machine. You might be able to pull a shot with really fresh coffee- but the Sette leaps beyond :D

    Hey ! Thank you for the nice video, after that nice review we got one ourself ! We just unpacked it, started it and after 5 or 6 espressi the pump stopped pumping water from the tank and is just humming all the time, and does not stop humming. Do you have an idea what to do ?

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds like it is trying to fill the steam boiler. Try removing the water tank and pushing it back down to see if you can clear the line so it can pull water in. If that doesn't solve it, give us a call and we can dig deeper and see what the issue is. Cheers! 866-372-4734

    how does it compare to Breville's dual boiler? That guy has a lot of bells and whistles, PID and stuff... but it looks like an appliance, a toaster, and not like a fancy machine, like a rocket. I am also not sure about Breville's longevity. Did you guys have a lot of customers bringing their BDBs back for repairs after a year or 2?

  • @tmywu

    heya, great review! so i bit the bullet and got this beast, but now, how do i use that pressure gauge to my advantage? is it just something i shouldn't pay too much attention to? i do the whole 20 min warmup (usually hits 1 bar around 10 mins in) and 5s cooling flush before every drink, should i just cover that pressure gauge with a piece of paper? i'm quite a noob, so i don't quite know what this pressure really means to me;\, everywhere i read, people talk about 8-9 bars, but why's this hovering at 1?
    thanks

    • @meestahwah
      @meestahwah 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The gauge on this machine is reading the boiler pressure. The gauge that you are reading about is one that reads brew pressure. 8 or 9 bar is the ballpark pressure for brewing.

    I use this machine with a eureka mignon grinder and it makes a delicious cup of latte. I make mostly milk base coffee but i have tried the espresso and it's smooth and flavorful and enjoy a long black occasionally. I pull 4 shots espresso for my 6 oz latte cup. My dose is 18 g grinds to 36 g coffee within 25 -30 sec. I use the VST 18 g basket. No problems with the both machines so far. Keep in mind it does take some time just to make one delicious cup of latte when u factor backflushing and cleanup . It's fun and rewarding when time permits

    Pardon my ignorance, but what's the importance of a boiler pressure gauge, in the context of pulling an espresso shot? It seems that nearly all machines in this price range and higher include *brew* pressure gauges, which is helpful in obtaining proper extraction, and I'm just curious as to why Rocket does not in the Apartemento's case. Thanks

    Nice video on the appartamento !!! but in comparison with the premium plus v3 and r58 how would you rate this machine ? does it perform the same as the other two machines and produce good shots like the two ?

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Long TianHao Excellent quality shots. This is a heat exchanger, without a PID. So when comparing it straight to the R58 and Premium Plus, we need to remember that. Because of the temperature control you get with the higher end models, in theory you will be able to pull a better shot. But it really depends on the barista! Thanks for watching!

    I'd heard that Rocket machines were going down the Fracino route and properly engineering their HX machines so they don't need a cooling flush to lower the temp of what would traditionally be flash heated water. Is this not the case with the Apartmento?

    I would stay away from Seattle Coffee Gear---bought a Rocket appartamento which failed after 6 months while still under warranty, they charged me to return the unit to Seattle, took nearly 5 weeks to get it back and it still had the same problem--boiler would not heat. They refused to exchange machine or offer credit, had to send back again this after multiple unreturned calls and CS runaround. While I apparently got a bad unit as Rocket seems to get overall good reviews I wish I had bought locally for from another online vendor, SCG experience has been BAD.

    • @RumbleFish69
      @RumbleFish69 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Randy Rich That is good to know. I was planning on ordering a Rocket or a Jura J90 (I'm still torn) from them so maybe I'll stay away and buy local instead. Customer service is huge for me and it sounds like you got a bit hosed. Sure, there are two sides to every story but even if you're exaggerating, you should have been taken care of if you were under warranty. Anyway, thanks for posting. I will stay subscribed and watch their videos because they are informative but probably will stay away from actual purchases.

      Exactly my experience with Seattle Coffee Gear TWICE! First time it was Saeco Auto. It failed in 6 months, I sent it for repair, got it back not working! Sent it back again, this time they've fixed it. It took a few moths to be done with repairs. Now I have exact same thing going on with Atom Eureka grinder. It started developing issues just after first 30 days. In 6 months it failed completely so I sent it for repair. Last week I got it back and IT DOESN'T START AT ALL!!! Now it's on the way back to them again. Way back I bought from them CC1, this one failed (some pipe inside had holes so it flooded with hot water inside) in under first 30 days, so I just returned it.
      Me personally, I'm done with SCG. Even with these videos as they don't tell the truth and all devices in their reviews are excellent and all coffee is great.

      Wow, maybe that’s why their store in Portland Oregon closed permanently. Not a good sign in a community that loves its espresso. Plus there are very few stores here that sell good machines and grinders so it would seem that something is very wrong at SCG. I bought a machine from the Portland store several years ago and haven’t had any issues but never had to have it repaired. Also, most companies that care about their image with the public would go out of their way to make customers happy and seeing these comments here that haven’t had a response from SCG is disheartening.

    Hey SCG! You guys are so cool! Thanks for the great reviews you make, you are so knowledgeable.
    Based on this review I bought the Rocket Appartamento (in Copper!!!) and it's a fantastic machine, I love it! I have one issue with it though. The boiler pressure never goes up more than 1 bar. It sits somewhere between 0.9 and 1 bar. I can see the green zone is between 1 and 1.5 bars and I would like to have it set somewhere in between... maybe 1.2?
    Do you know how i can do that?
    I can see a screw on the pressure stat when you take the machine apart. Is that what I need to adjust?
    Thanks a lot,
    Victor

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! Congrats on the copper Appartamento! Woohoo! That screw on the pressure stat is what you will adjust, but do so in very small increments. It is OK, for your machine to be at .9 bar, but if you want more steam pressure and hotter brew water, adjusting it up to 1.1, 1.2 would do that for you. Hope that helps! Cheers!

      Depends on how often you brew.
      Rocket does not recommend leaving the machine on for 8-10 hours since it is only made for home use.
      I would say 20-30 minutes, the longer the better. I don‘t do less than 15 min with my Appartamento

    Do you think they left out the boiler insulation to keep cost down? I always thought that was a premium feature and was surprised to see it left out in this video.

    How are you able to steam and brew at the same time? My understanding of the HX machines, is you could only do one at a time. Thanks. Really great channel.

    Thank you for such an in-depth review, Gail. I have decided to purchase the Apartemento! For me, it's all about that feeling of direct connection with the machine. Rocket has enhanced this connection by the use of the lever and not a brew button. Oh and did I mention it's absolutely stunning!
    My only suggestion is that they add a pressure gauge at the group head. I understand it is their entry level model but I don't think adding another gauge would be too expensive. Knowing pressure at the group head is also helpful in seeing if there is an issue with your extraction. Although I suspect perhaps there may be an issue with placement on such a compact machine. oh and I'm totally on #TeamCopperCutOut :-)

    how do you maintain this? does it have a auto cleaner, or notice to add descale solution?

    • @hitechespresso

      NO AND NO.

    • @silvioniklaus701
      @silvioniklaus701 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No auto cleaner, just do it every 2 weeks depending on how much you use it.
      I would not descale the machine, I have a bag in my water tank that keeps it clean.
      Descaling should only be done by professionals in my opinion.

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear

      It is a heat exchanger. A little different than a single boiler. Check this out: www.seattlecoffeegear.com/blog/2009/03/01/heat-exchange-vs-double-boiler/

    does this is a good choice for a new coffee shop, i mean a commercial use ?

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Eduardo, we would not suggest this for a coffee shop use. It is not NSF certified, and is not built to handle even light commercial use, so it will encounter more issues than if it’s used in a standard home setting brewing 2-5 drinks per day. Feel free to contact our commercial department to figure out the right machine for you - 866.372.4734

    • @johntheaccountant5594
      @johntheaccountant5594 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This machine is only good to make 2 - 5 drinks per day ? That is all ? That means this machine is a lot of money per cup of coffee. I thought these were light commercial machines and could be used in ssmall restaurants coffee shops.

    I own a small bar and we are looking for a small coffee machine that can handle making estimated 50 cups of coffee a day. Space is a premium so if this machine could handle that it would be ideal. Do you think this machine is suited to that low volume commercial use?

    • @turbothrottletrouble4217
      @turbothrottletrouble4217 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is actually good for home use just for yourself. But if you are opening a coffee shop it's best to get a decent one you see in most coffee shops. I am no coffee expert but I am a partial enthusiast and I think investing in a good one will be worth it

    • @sebastianodriscoll9286
      @sebastianodriscoll9286 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@turbothrottletrouble4217 thanks for feedback. Is not a coffee shop to be honest, it's a bar and bottle shop so beer is very much the main offering. The current machine does about 30 coffees a day, 10 for staff and about 20 for customers who are with their beer guzzling friends but not partaking. I wouldn't expect numbers to increase by much in the near future. As such I'm wondering if a full on commercial machine is over kill, both with space and cost.

  • @aidanmiller4947

    Previous rocket machines have some sort of insulation on their boilers. Is there a reason why the APPARTAMENTO doesn't have that.
