    Should I do one of these for a self-tape that didn’t book? 😅

    As someone on the hiring side of this, there are soooo often such small reasons why someone isn't hired that I regularly feel bad knowing they're going to leave and invent things to feel insecure about. Remember, after you know the lines and the part 200% (no small thing in itself) then it's a random lottery of a million small things that are often meaningless in themselves, based on stuff you will never know and never realize how coincidental they were. THIS is the numbers game you're trying to overcome when constantly auditioning. Also, for parts with accents, I'd recommend you save the slate for the end, otherwise while you're speaking during the audition for a French barista (for example) if you have a believable accent they will believe it, but if you're from down-south Louisiana and sound like it, and have the slate first, without realizing it on some level they will be focused on how well you cover your accent and not how well you play the part. Also for a new TH-camr you're doing something right the way you're dealing with the algo- I only clicked on this because this video was recommended to me multiple times in the past few days. 👍

      Thank you for the lovely comment! And yes, I always try to put the slate at the end (unless they’ve specifically asked for it at the beginning) 😊
      I have no idea why the algorithm has decided to push this video now haha, I’ve been too busy to post this past month, so it’s probably trying to lure me back in 😅
      Working on more content today 🤓

    So often we are told to have a sense of urgency and keep the pace moving, but your tape and others that I have seen that booked took their time and didn’t burn through the moments. The silences need to be lived out truthfully and you did that. You were engaged the whole time, not just waiting for you cue to say your line.

    Quick top: Putting the slate at the end when doing a character with an accent that isn't your natural accent is HUGE. People will be more impressed if they "discover" your real accent after they see you perform as the character. If they hear your real accent first, then watch you as the character, their brain will subconsciously remind them that you're "doing an accent", and the preception of your acting will suffer.

    • @violetverigo
      @violetverigo  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This was actually an old temporary set up haha! I might do short video of the various set ups I’ve had before my current one, but you really don’t need much! Just a light source (which could be a window) and a plain background (I use a collapsible backdrop). Good luck with your tape!

    I’m an actor from Ghana,West Africa.
    Just subscribed to your channel and hit the bell as well. Imma recommend your channel to couple of actors down here. Meanwhile would you like to teach me a few things about how the system works up there? I mean; from agents to auditions and finally booking a jobs etc…will be finding my way up there soon. Would love if we could chat in your DM but how tho,please?
    Congrats on booking the job🎉❤

      In terms of learning how it all works, you can do some research (google/youtube), there’s lots of information out there. I’m also gonna be making more videos this week.
      But I would say film some monologues, do some student films to get footage for your showreel, then you can start applying to agents with that showreel, and they will submit you for bigger projects.
      Good luck!

  • @MajdSafia
    @MajdSafia 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The question is... how did you get TO audition in the first place? I think that's where people struggle the most.

    • @violetverigo
      @violetverigo  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      My agent gets me auditions.
      In order to get an agent, I did a lot of student films and short films (the first few I did for free to get footage and experience), and when I got a showreel together and had a few credits on my CV, I started applying for agents.

    Do you have advice for directing your reader? I dont have any actor friends to read with and i find my partner often has a hard time catching the vibe or understanding how to not over-act or have too much energy as a reader

    • @violetverigo
      @violetverigo  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It can be tricky with non-actor readers! My partner is not an actor either, and it took a bit of time, but we got there in the end haha!
      The only thing I can suggest is just “do less” and “don’t try to act”. Between over acting/misplaced energy and monotonous reading, I’d always pick the latter.
      I also always tell him to not rush and take a beat after certain lines where I need a moment.
      They’ll get better with practice, but start with the bare minimum. You got this!

    Can you suggest me some resources to find auditions please ?

    • @violetverigo
      @violetverigo  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Spotlight is where most legitimate professional casting calls are posted. That’s what my agent uses to submit me, and you can self submit if you’re unrepresented.
      If you’re just starting out, you can use websites like Backstage, Mandy and StarNow (all owned by the same company), they are a bit hit and miss, but you might find some nice jobs on there.
      Other than that, follow casting directors on social media, they sometimes post casting calls for specific roles.
      You can also try approaching your local film school to see if they need actors for their final projects, or join an am dram group near you.
      You can find all this info by googling it :)
