I love Invincible because on the surface it seems like yet another superhero show that says that the very notion of a superhero helping people is absurd, but when watching the show it makes you root for Mark when he becomes the heroic persona Omni-Man was merely pretending to be. It's not a deconstruction of the superhero genre; it's a reconstruction of it.

The best part about Season 1 to Season 2 is you see Nolan's reaction from the line of "You, Dad. I'd have you." There's no time jump. We get to see the torment that line sends him through as we follow him through space. He completely loses all faith in his cause because he realized Mark was right and that they'd still have each other to help each other through their grief of losing all their friends and loved ones and watching Earth turn to dust. It finally cracked Nolan's psyche and he almost kills himself because of what he did to his own son.

Even from the little bit of show we have seen, Nolan’s character is shaped by social conditioning that he begins to change as soon as mark is born. The special that shows Mark and Nolan early on, Nolan visibly shudders at the thought of harming Mark when he’s so young. Neural plasticity is heavily influenced by usage in cognitively normal individuals and can be improved in individuals with impairments. Earth being the first planet Nolan is used to conquer in the way it is all the way to his interactions with the bug people emphasize that.

Nolan and Mark have such an interesting dynamic with season 2. We've seen evil men turn good and our heroes broken, but having a father-son dynamic where each party is in pain. Yet, Mark capitalizes on his anger to shield him from pain, utterly unaware of how similar he is to Nolan, a unique storytelling device. I can't wait to see the second half of season 2.

Nolan doesn't completely lack empathy, though. There are a couple moments where he shows regret for his actions and how he's hurt the people around him. When Cecil tells him the the guardians were his friends, so he knew that Nolan didn't do it for the fun of it. And as he says this, he looks away and does the same thing when Cecil brings up debbie and mark. There's another moment when he thinks about attacking debbie, before snapping out of it and is disappointed and angry at himself for even considering it.

only minutes later, we see them slaughtered by other viltrumites
It was almost as if the show was asking if we feel the same empathy for a species that lives that short

I honestly feel like Nolan's speech to mark about how he'll outlive everything is just Nolan trying to convince himself that what he is doing is right. He loved Debbie, made connections with people and enjoy everything. But he knew what he had to do eventually at a certain point, it just sounds more like he's attempting to convince himself that it does not matter because its barely any of his lifespan and its so little that he thinks he just shouldn't care since the planet is doomed at the moment anyways.

Homelander grew up in a lab with no empathy or healthy relationships, before being put on a leash by Vought. Reverse Flash, meanwhile, spent so much time on studying the Flash that he never gave himself a chance to experience compassion or healthy relationships (the fact that Flash also humiliated him doesn't help either).

I think it's pretty clear that, from a thematic point of view, Mark gets his superhero name not because of his powers or winning track record (he does get beat up a lot) but rather from his human values. By holding on to his humanity and not giving in to the feelings that would make him more like a true Viltrumite. It's how he won the fight against his dad by attrition. 14:40 The difference is one heavily related to the themes of Invincible; Humanity. Immortal has lived _alongside humanity_ for his entire lifespan. He's had wives, kids, grandkids, brothers in arms and kings and subjects. He's _lived lives_ in all the human ways, and keeps doing so.
Whereas Viltrumites? They've only known Violence, War, Conquest, Might makes right, "If he was weak then he deserved to die". They've been so seperated from the human experience for so long that it's almost impossible to snap them out of it. It takes 20 years of love and humanity to make even one of them doubt themselves. Where Immortal has known all of the human experience, Viltrumites have known only war.

Plus the first part of this theory, when he compared them to humans and their brains not being able to create the same amount of synapses to when they were babies or young children is also unknown considering Viltrumites get stronger and increase in other ways as they get older basically opposite of humans. They could create even more as they get older because of this, or even because of their advances in medicine and their abilities to cure disease to change their brain chemistry and other things as the such.. who knows their story could of gone anywhere and could of made sense and explained in these types of ways..

Angstrom Levy seemed like a truly good person that wanted to help not only his world but many, many, many others. And when you think about it, he saved Mark's life when he took the helmet off. If he did not, the Maulers would have beat him to death. Even when he was in the middle of accomplishing his ultimate goal, Angstrom cared about someone trying to stop him enough to try and save that person's life. Now that he has the memories of all his alternate selves, combined with the pain and disfigurement he is suffering through, he now is consumed with hatred for Mark. Keep in mind that in most dimensions, Mark actually ends up siding with his father to take over the Earth, so Angstrom has a lot of memories of Mark doing terrible things.

Keep in mind, the 1.6 year estimate is based on a 3000 age estimate. If Nolan was any less then 3000 years, he’d probably not have saiid “thousands of years”. Three thousand is pretty much the bare minimum age. He’s probably much more than 3000 years old, and that 1.6 is likely to be a lot lower.

@anna.owo. Im pretty sure he is older than 3000, how? Because we know how Invincible looks after 500 years, he looks like a man on his twenties, why is this important? Because we know Viltrumites age slower the older they get, which means that in order to look like Omni Man, Mark will have to live much more

Desensitization of grief... That explains a lot about myself. I lost a majority of my ability to feel grief after the death of my best friend. When I come face to face with it now... I forget how to feel anything. I automatically jump straight to acceptance. I skip a whole 4 stages of grief in just a few minutes... Some would consider this ability a blessing, but it _terrifies_ me.

Here a fun fact: Viltrumites dont have adrenaline, yet Mark does. This is because viltrumites never had need for adrenaline because they are superhuman and never needed to evolve with it as a species. Since mark is part human and was born with the adrenaline DLC, He's able to overpower stronger opponents throughout a temporary surge in endurance.

I think its also worth pointing out here that the longer we live the more our perception of time changes and the fewer things we remember from day today. Only really retaining big moments, things that trigger a strong emotional response. So Omni Man would probably not even think about or remember most of his time on earth with the exception of those moments with his wife and son, even if the time with his wife is brief. Breif moments in time can still trigger a strong enough emotional response to create lasting memories for even the oldest of people. This is once again assuming that Omni Man's brain is similar to ours as the video does.

    • @FastForwardPlans
      @FastForwardPlans 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

That's actually a consequence of how our brains get less flexible and start to break down as we age, given how long viltrumites seem to live, and how they basically purged all weakness from themselves. I imagine time dilation via memory blanks is not a thing Omni man has to deal with, though his perception of what is considered a long time to do something would most assuredly be far different from ours.

But on topic, I actually experience (kinda) the Omni Man 2 years span. I work at a university, and my student workers who I see every day generally disappear forever after 1-3 years. The first 2 students that I "lost" to graduation I literally cried. I saw myself in them, tried to give life advice and such. Now several years later I can't even be bothered to learn most of their names or even tell them apart.
