FIXED. PS3 Slim Green Light of the Death (GLOD). No video/No audio/No controller sync

- PS3 Slim 320GB model, won´t show video(either HDMI or AV), audio and won´t sync any controller.
On start, PS3 Green light comes up but nothing happens. No sound or video.
Insert game or any disc into the slot, blue blinks and again nothing happens.
Try to assign wireless controller, nothing happens.
Try restart the console, unplug it for a while, or keep it on for long time again does not solve the problem.

FIXED: I solved the problem putting 4 pennies covered of thermal compound arctic silver over the headspreader of the RSX to push it to the motherboard.

WORKED FOR ME!!! LIKED!!! Except put 4 pennies on both chips so that way you don't have to worry about it again. Tried this on a 160GB slim CECH-2501A and works perfectly and have had no problems since!!!

OK so I got a different GLOD it happens sometimes in game or I hold down PS he button and I say yes exit game and it stays on a black screen for a long time so I go to the ps3 and press the button and it makes 3 beeps and the green light is still on but the TV screen is completely black its on but then I have to unplug the ps3. Please help me I don't want to lose all the memory on the system. The ps3 is only 5 yrs old....
I have something to add to this. If you go through the trouble of buying arctic silver and opening the machine, just replace the old thermal paste on the GPU and CPU chips and increase the tension on the clamps by bending them more. That's essentially what is happening with the pennies pushing the GPU to the board more flush. I bypassed the pennies by bending the clamps a bit and it worked perfectly! LOL, you beat me to it. The pennies are just pushing the processor into the board. Simply bending the clamp is the same thing.

you have to put the pennies on the top of the RSX. If you clean the thermal compound before, it´s written on the metal which one is the RSX and which is the CPU.

yes, I´ve tried with another tv and I also have change the power supply. Finnaly I solved the problem putting 4 pennies over the headspreader of the RSX to push it to the motherboard.

I fixed mine by smashing it. This pissed me off more than anything!
It's not a GLOD it's because your video settings were set wrong. Holding it down once reset it already...

I tried this. It worked ! Now I have pictures. However, the the CPU runs 175 F and the RSX runs 134 F. I think the uneven pressure is causing this. I try to put penny on the CPU, but no picture again. lol

This problem happed to me the other day I replaced my hard drive and it's working like a champ!
Fixing a broken BGA connection applying extra force from the top. As soon as that connection is broken again (oxidation on the surfaces of the cracked ball) your PS3 will GLOD again.

THIS WORKED WHAT THE DERN HECK O MUH GAWD. If yours doesn't beep twice, just hold it down and let it power cycle a couple of times. Worked for me. Peace love and crabs.
American pennies are now something like 95% Zinc and coated with 5% Copper.
You got to go back to the early 80's to find mostly copper pennies.
My nephews PS3 has black screen of death but also does not recognize the controller when plugged in.

the ps3 is on just make sure your cords are tighter in the tv this is not a problem the
ps3 slim 320 gb version does NOT get the yellow light of death and the ps3 super slim does NOT get the yellow light of death either

I’ve just got this. Starts and then you can hear the fan stop and the green light flashes. Hopefully it’s just the thermal paste and nothing too serious. Just as long as I manage to get it working again to save my saves I’ll be good.
@Ahmer Huaasin Yes temporarily. Used thermal paste and then transferred data to a usb and I have a new ps3 now

yes, It´s under the fan, take off all the screws and you have to remove the old thermal compound of the RSX (RSX is written on there). Just put the pennies over it covered by thermal compound :)

No you need to replace the cable that connects the power and eject button thingy
Maybe you got a loose hdmi port or broken hdmi cable.

When I hold down my power button it turns green for a few seconds and then shuts off as if there is now power
no i never did i jut took out my hard drive and threw the ps3 away (the reason i did was becasue i got it on sale for $150 and it would cost me more than i paid for it to fix it

Tried that, doesn't work. I did the penny fix, but now my PS3 is as loud as a hairdryer, I might try changing the heat paste under the RSX with arctic silver.
The red light on my PS3 won't show up preventing me from turning on my PS3 and yes the cords are connected and i'v tried blowing in the plugs but it still won't work

if someone have ps3 its best to put the ps3 in glass cabinet where is dust free and you wont have this problem
you can buy it in ebay, just make sure it is "arctic silver 5" and you can apply it with a credit card or something similar.

He didn't actually put pennies in the ps3, that would be dumb. What he meant was he put penny sized amounts of thermal paste on the CPU and GPU on the motherboard so they don't overheat. I've done this recently and my ps3 stays cooler than ever.

It's not a problem it happened to my slim just put cords tighter in the tv or unplug them and wait them put them back in and the ps3 slim 320gb does NOT Get the yellow light of death and the ps3 super slim does not get the yellow light of death either

yes they are good for a a little more time but actually the video processor heats up very hot and than the your chip will melt the connection to the motherboard Sony made a cheap cooler and even the ps4 is heating up so hot i think they will have the same problem small heatsink with a small fan

It would actually be better to do the copper shims fix on this because it provides less of a gap between the gpu and heatsink.

Yea, guess what, it didn't. Now I think I also damaged something on the 12v circuit, now all I get is a red light for a few seconds and then shutdown. I bought me a working Slim, might try a few things on the dead one and see if I get it working again.

Dude, this thing happened to me, but wasn't because of motherboard, was a hard drive problem. I advice sometimes you take off your HD and try if PS3 system works, after that then use so drastic solution.

How simple is this process because I don't trust myself to do much for fear of breaking something.
I have the same symptoms but the thing is my controller syncs fine tho, and the HDD light indicator is flashing when I turn on/off my console. Also my TV screen is flashing when I turn the console off. Any Ideas?

Dooley Boy Mine too at least im not alone mine happen when i tried loading gta 5 and it said i needed to update system but i was fully up to date 4.80, and i had to go to the playstation site to get the update link, so i put the update on my usb then put the usb in my ps3 then it said hold select and start together and so i did it and it found the update and downloaded it then right after it installed, after it installed right after 100% it went to a black screen and i tried to turn it off and it wouldnt unless i hold the power button, and when i turn it on nothing shows ,my controller wont sync ,ps3 wont turn off till i hold the power button and now im stuck with this untill i send it to sony to repair it ,and i have a super slim btw

Ha I was just given a slimline PS3 and had this problem. Was working fine before I tried it......and DJHeroMasterPro123 is dead right. Just hold down the power button when switching on until it beeps a second time (about 5-6 seconds). Dont tear it apart for YLOD situation......

There's no such thing is "glod"... These models don't really get any "lights of death" especially a green one..lol
But I'm glad you fixed it, usually it's a simple heating/ventilation problem fixed by cleaning out all dust inside and reapplying thermal paste.

i didn't know there was a green light of death. I got the same problem, but i have the feeling my ps3 starts when the top of the case is removed. This happened after todays fw update (again), so i guess the a/c is going to hot.
Have you tried hold the power button down till you get a second beep to make sure its not a video setting malfunction.
