    Lifesaver, simple fix for what I thought was going to be a shift cable replacement, initially thought the screws were tight but put a torx on them and they snugged about a turn each, now shifter feels like brand new! Thank You Jamie!

    Glad I found this before I took my F-250 apart further. I had to replace the shifter bushings and also changed the link on the end of the cable by the Range Sensor, but I still had issues going into Park. I was going to order a new cable and Switch, but a quick search and I found this video and it solved the problem. Thanks man, you saved me a ton of work.

  • @charlestackett7137
    @charlestackett7137 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thanks for the video. Tightening two Torx fasteners may only solve part of the problem. There are lots more Torx fasteners that come loose and other parts that wear out. Your solution will only fix one part of the problem and temporarily at best. For example, it's a common problem that the shift-tube bushings on the shift tube wear out and the shift tube brackets come loose (held in place by Torx fasteners). Can you say thread-lock? Drop the steering assembly column down ((eight nuts) and then it becomes pretty apparent that the shift tube is rising out of its bed. When the shift tube is flopping around in its carriage and it's supposed to be tightly held so that it rotates only, it will not apply enough torque to the shift cable and won't send the PRNDL selector switch fully into the Park position. The DIY parts will cost about 10 to $25 and it will take 1 hour to 1.5 hours. If your frustration tolerance is low, take it to a shop.
    Then, you can fix the parking brake MIL (indicator light) and replace the drum brake pads for the parking emergency brakes.

I tightened those two torx screws after putting a dab of LocTite on them and the shifter feels like brand new. The top screw was back out, but, the bottom screw was about ready to fall out. Soooo, does anyone have any idea what the part is called that the two T30 bolts screw in to??? I have searched everywhere and Ford dealerships and parts stores look at me like I'm crazy! Salvage yards have all year models except for 2001 in my area, and it appears that the way the linkage cable is attached to the gear shifter is specific to just the 2001? Older models and newer models either have that part above or below the shifter tube/steering column. Mine is offset to the side(driver's side of the steering column/shift tube. Mine looks like the one in this video. Anyone have any idea what the part that the t30 bolts screw in to. Not the bracket. The aluminum part with the thread holes. The thread hole closest to the shift tube broke/snapped on mine. So I'm driving around with only the fender side bolt holding my gears in place, and that's the bolt that backs out halfway. The other one fell out altogether and was just lying in the floorboard directly under the steering column, RT in front of the brake pedal.
