I had the same issue on Saturday with my 2001 F150, I could not put it in park and the bolt was laying on the floor. Thank you for the video. Got it done today.
No fucking way man, spent hours trying to figure it out.... saw your video, spent 3 minutes just trying to find the right tool and fixed it in 30 seconds. Thank you bro.
I did as you explained, problem solved. I thought "hmm, parking pawl?" Just like yours, those screws loosened up. I even just skipped applying new loctite! My rustbucket probably won't see the day when those screws get loose again. Sidenote, scews are T30. Thanks man!
My stress level went up when my truck started rolling back. I thought wrh. I went in the store and googled and found your video. I looked on the floor and saw that torx screw in all it's glory. My stress level went back to normal. Thanks a heap.
When the telescopic tube for shifting your gear for a Ford brakes always look at the underneath of the truck because of the cable system might be compromised in some way
Glad I found this before I took my F-250 apart further. I had to replace the shifter bushings and also changed the link on the end of the cable by the Range Sensor, but I still had issues going into Park. I was going to order a new cable and Switch, but a quick search and I found this video and it solved the problem. Thanks man, you saved me a ton of work.
Excellent video ! It solved my issue. Past couple weeks my 2003 F-150 had to be "slammed" in to Park or it would roll. I tightened those two torx screws after putting a dab of LocTite on them and the shifter feels like brand new. The top screw was back out, but, the bottom screw was about ready to fall out. Now I'm going to order my TH-cam Cerified Mechanic decal.
Just wanted to stop by and say tyvm for taking the time to share your experience I was ready to start taking things apart when decided to look up here ty bro you save me the hassle 🙏
Jamie, Great Video ! I love that you get right to business. No half-ass funny jokes, no wasting our time showing us how to remove a phillips screw. Another thing I hated about other videos is the really poor lighting and shakey phone camera--You gave me the perfect solution for my 98 F-150--even the T-30 Torx head advice was perfect !! Thanks for showing everyone how it should be done !!
Thanks for the video. Tightening two Torx fasteners may only solve part of the problem. There are lots more Torx fasteners that come loose and other parts that wear out. Your solution will only fix one part of the problem and temporarily at best. For example, it's a common problem that the shift-tube bushings on the shift tube wear out and the shift tube brackets come loose (held in place by Torx fasteners). Can you say thread-lock? Drop the steering assembly column down ((eight nuts) and then it becomes pretty apparent that the shift tube is rising out of its bed. When the shift tube is flopping around in its carriage and it's supposed to be tightly held so that it rotates only, it will not apply enough torque to the shift cable and won't send the PRNDL selector switch fully into the Park position. The DIY parts will cost about 10 to $25 and it will take 1 hour to 1.5 hours. If your frustration tolerance is low, take it to a shop. Then, you can fix the parking brake MIL (indicator light) and replace the drum brake pads for the parking emergency brakes.
Do you know the name of the part that the 2 torx go into??????? The guy in video doesn't fully explain. I was having this problem and found 1 torx bolt and a piece of the part the bolt goes into broken laying on the floor board. Thanks
No nonsense let's get it frickin fixed video! Buddy, you are a bright light among the late da repair videos of guys who just like to hear their own voices while spewing their infinite wisdom. Good work, good to go.
Soooo, does anyone have any idea what the part is called that the two T30 bolts screw in to??? I have searched everywhere and Ford dealerships and parts stores look at me like I'm crazy! Salvage yards have all year models except for 2001 in my area, and it appears that the way the linkage cable is attached to the gear shifter is specific to just the 2001? Older models and newer models either have that part above or below the shifter tube/steering column. Mine is offset to the side(driver's side of the steering column/shift tube. Mine looks like the one in this video. Anyone have any idea what the part that the t30 bolts screw in to. Not the bracket. The aluminum part with the thread holes. The thread hole closest to the shift tube broke/snapped on mine. So I'm driving around with only the fender side bolt holding my gears in place, and that's the bolt that backs out halfway. The other one fell out altogether and was just lying in the floorboard directly under the steering column, RT in front of the brake pedal.
Lifesaver, simple fix for what I thought was going to be a shift cable replacement, initially thought the screws were tight but put a torx on them and they snugged about a turn each, now shifter feels like brand new! Thank You Jamie!
nice post...fixed my problem in less than a minute....took longer to get the tools out of the box and find a flashlight....feels like a new truck. oh forgot to mention, this works for Excursions as well. at least it did on my 2000. Thank you.
"Whatever the F*** they call this here lever" LOL. Same problem on my 2001 Mazda B3000, same mechanism as Ford Ranger, same damn loose bolts. Guess they didn't want to spend a fraction of a cent on some goddamn loctite.
Man thanks for the video, the min you said your screw was on floor, there mine was! Holy shit thanks so much
same kinda of issue but on f150,2013. where to start? center shifter says park but actually in reverse.ans then locks down
