Thanks man for posting this. It was your video that saved me having to get towed and pay a mechanic. The head of my bolt on the unit actually sheered off! I found it on the floor, I could not shift out of neutral and without your video I would not have been able to solve the problem because it’s not possible to see the head of the screw. Thanks again
i just fixed a 2001 e350 work van found the old bolt in the non removable crossbar. i used your harbor freight setup it worked great.. wasnt easy to get the bolt started. thanks for the help

Will this be the case too if the truck won’t go fully into gears like reverse, drive, 2,1? It’ll act like it wants to but it just won’t fully grip the gear. If you get what I’m saying.
Used this on my 01 Excursion just now. It's been acting up, no crank/no starts, not going into park, and today it tried to leave us at the store. Neutral started it, and tightened it up in the driveway back home. Hopefully this solves my problems!
Maybe remove one screw add a little blue loctite to the threads then reinstall. Remove the second screw, apply loctite then reinstall so the screws never back out again.

you hit the nail on the head THANX, I have been hunting for gears with the lever for months and cussing ford, typical chickenshit ford engineering, no lock washer or Loctite, engineered to send owner to ford shop to pay $200 for 15 minute repair 3 or 4 days later if you are lucky

Transmission guy tells me to warm it up and put in reverse and I should feel it act like its trying to go backwards. I got nothing. Others I've asked think it's the TV / detent cable. What do you think ? Could linkage issues cause this ?
Your issue is in a Ford box turck. I have this same problem, exact same wo'nt go into Park and starts in Neutral, but mine is with a Buick Century 98 how do I find that spot you were at?
This was very helpful on a 97 E150. It had only one machine screw left which was loose. Works fine now. Can anyone tell me exactly what size machine screw this takes? know the Torx bit obviously. I was able to do tighten one still there with normal long extension. Can feel the second one is missing so just need size of this to buy replacement? Working now with only one machine screw that is tight.

My mechanic ended up moving away and closed his shop. Any advice or suggestions?
mytimeistoday1 I wish I knew what to tell you on that. It might be good to check yourself just to make sure that they are tight. The linkage probably wouldn’t be the easiest thing to switch out.
Chad Ross definitely sounds like transmission going out, but could be a clogged filter. Cheapest start would be changing fluid and filter. We just had to replace our transmission on this box truck, after we replaced still didn’t shift out of second like it should. Ended up being a bad new accumulator regulator.
So I have this issue however the part that the screw threads into that has the counter threads snapped in half any suggestions on how to fix this cheap?
Are you saying the shift tube snapped in half? If so, you'll just have to replace it. I think I paid around $50, but I got mine from a Ford dealer. I'm sure they're even cheaper online. You'll probably have to drop the steering wheel and whatnot, but it's not too difficult a job to replace one.
My 2008 super duty has this issue and I'm just gonna replace the whole linkage and the linkage clip it has so much slop causing issues with flickering indicator.
Then you steal a landscaping rock from a parking lot that is big enough to block your tires. Had a 1970's Jeep wagoneer that had a bad transmission. That's my fix and it's free!
You didn’t show how to tighten the screws! Your camera went outside the truck and when it got in the car it was already done! I think you should redo the video! Sorry.

How to tighten loose shifter not ADJUST, there's no adjusting here in this video.
When I tightened it it adjusted the linkage. Which fixed neutral being neutral and drive being drive again.
