I’m really glad you make these videos as I have model building and airbrush experience just no auto body or paint experience. I decided to help my daughter with a dent on her 21 Hyundai ELANTRA and yes made a number of mistakes! Now with your videos I will be able to fix them and look like a pro did it thank you so much.

You have my total respect - the care and steady-handedness you exhibit are remarkable. Wish I had gotten to see some of this in person many years ago !
@Paint Society Thanks Brian for all you do including enabling me to do my first paint job on a front end. One thing I came across was running paint at the base coat. I was scrambling to fix because you make it look so easy and we don't see things like this on the channel. ;) What is the possibility of a line of videos about "fixing" common mistakes. Thanks again for all you do!
My first full car respray was a Mazda Artic Silver metallic. I watched a lot of videos, including Paint Society to study & take notes from the pros & the paint job came out beautiful. My personal project is an '86 Si which I'm respraying in of course in a solid red. I have sprayed some parts already and yes, solid red is an easy, fun to shoot color for beginners! I can't wait to start spraying again
I'm a painter and decorator by trade here in the U.K and your knowledge has given me the confidence to take on the challenge of giving my van a respray in Nardo grey (with black wheels and roof) any pointers with this colour or base and clear coat as on this video 😀
Another nice video. I like how you mentioned how the area that was primered wasn’t as smooth to the touch as the other areas, but didn’t make a difference in the final feel after the clear-coat was applied. Most beginners, such as myself, would have panicked and maybe sanded it down unnecessarily.

Brian, just for folks that don’t paint much or perhaps first time, do a short video about what goes into paint to make something to spray and match. Of course this subject could be 3hrs, but slow it down, explain what starts with a paint code and the juices that go into the can. I mixed automotive Sherwin-Williams back in 1999 at UTI tech school to teach guys & gals how to paint. Your Red...starts with a little blue, a dab of white, touch of green, two reds and then the resins, binders & drying agents. I was service mgr at a boat dealer and little shops make two go-fast boats each year. You pull it into the sun, open 9 cans of gel coat and wipe a finger sample on the bow. Stand back and see the hues of “Nope” this one too red, little blue, some green, etc. Just a thought! It is the “Secret Sauce” episode! Of course gel coat wipes off with a rag and acetone with no damage as it is like colored thin body filler, just a different chemistry thinned with MEK and viscosity adjusted with monomer styrene. Chemistry = better living, better paint + some “UV” additives. Thinking out loud. ASE Master Tech Retired.
I love the way you de-mistify spraying paint. Some people treat it like Black Magic. I don't suppose you could do a vid on spraying cellulose paint for us home DIY'ers with classic cars?

Most paint comes with instructions on how to mix depending where you get it mixed. If you take it to a Auto paint shop they should help you. I live in the UK and my only issue is the price difference between a Spray Can and a Spray gun is a big difference e.g 500ml spray can costs £8 ($11) compare that 500ml of tinned paint is £20 ($27) i can buy 3 cans of paint for the price of 1 tin of paint this does not include Thinners, Activators etc. Primer and Clear are cheaper in tins. The cost of 2 500ml Cans is slightly more expensive then tinned

Hi Johnny, yes, it was the same for me but I’ve been using clear coat (in home garage) for a couple of years now and it certainly helps to provide another skin to absorb scratches etc but also with my family’s older cars etc it gives an easy way to blend in a fresh paint repair to the older slightly faded paint for instance…best regards.
@@philtucker1224 Phil, I've also only used single stage. Is a second gun required for spraying clear? It looks like recoat times don't give you enough time to clean and setup your gun.

Great vids, one common question I got from watching most of your vids is how do you determine the air pressure to use for a particular part of the job {gun ,paint ,clear}, each video has different settings ?
Hi this is my first time writing in the comment section. I have been watching most of your videos and find them excellent, especially because I am not a body repair person. You make it look simple. I have a question. I purchased a 1978 Eldorado that had a new paint job about 5 years ago. The paint was great and the car was sharp. I had to use my garage so I pulled the Cadillac out and covered it with a tarp under a tree for about 3 days. The weather was about 85 degrees and it rained. When I pulled the cover from the vehicle I noticed that the clearcoat on the hood and the trunk area had huge blisters on it like the clearcoat separated from the paint. What do you think happened and how can I repair this without taking it to a body shop. The paint was not affected, just the clearcoat bubbled and now is flaking off. Thanks for any help I can get from you.
Hi Brian, Do you always use 70% overlap and do conditions change that? Agree with previous comment about trying single stage paint. Always great info. Dan
Been working paint matching pieces on my vehicle and have tried several cheap guns. HF purple, their pro model and have terrible orange peel. Deltron 3000 was recommended but the clear was pitted badly and I had to cut and buff a lot to get a halfway decent finish. I know it is mostly the guy behind the gun but am I just wasting time with some of these guns and just go 400lph orange cap and work with that? Don’t paint enough to need lots of guns but what is the best mid-range/high gun to eliminate equipment and focus on technique? Don’t mind spending the money if it’s worth it and just performs better. Thanks for any help!
Love your channel, all the details you give, and reviews! What would you recommend as the best gun to shoot base and clear, for a budget minded DIY’er? I’ve gone back and forth between several, and haven’t bought one yet. Would appreciate your opinion, thanks for the great content!
Hi I like your channel it very helpful. I plan to paint my son honda civic hood fender and bumper. So I check what compressor required and it around 13 CFM and that one only on compressor above $900. Is anyway DIY can save money because maybe only use that compressor one time so we can use compressor around $250?
Hey I really like your videos, and they' ve helped a lot with painting again. Even tho you work in a big bodyshop, your channelis right for do it yourselfers. I need to know about spraying clear over acrylic enamel.
How do you paint a car with just plastic cause we always put paper around the area where we need to paint? And what products you use to eliminate fish eyes?
It looks like you sprayed first coat and second coat back to back with no cure time. Is that correct? Great content. I always enjoy your vids. Makes me think I could do this on my own vehicle as well. Cheers Howard
Brian - have you sprayed any flat colors? I'd be curious how different the process is over a typical base / clear. Maybe you could show us on a junk hood as an example? At first I wasn't a fan of the factory flats, but they're starting to grow on me.
Hi, love your videos, great quality and great instruction, thanks. Very helpful as I prepare to DIY fix clear coat fading and some other paint needs for my car. Also located in Soflo, let me know if you have any recommendations for paint booths to rent (Live in an apartment building so no garage).

@Brian thank you so much for all your videos and advice it has really helped me alot i always wanted paint and your videos have given me the confidence to do it and ive had great results thank you again If i may ask could you do a cut and polish video for after painting perhaps as i have painted my vehicle now i need to assemble and cut and polish Also someone told me to do a 3 stage Compound with the polishing machine Hand polish after And a spray wax after that
Was wondering did you have to wet sand "orange peel" after the clear coat cured? If not any tips on how you clear coat a car without needing to wet sand it.
I’m new to painting and it looks like the clear is put on so thick I would be scared of runs, does the clear have properties in it to keep runs from happening??
I've used a lot of rattle can paint In my time. I've stepped up to gun. I've got a 77 dodge long bed P/U that I'm going to do mostly red with a 24-30 inch white stripe on the sides. The stripes will be down the side of the entire truck. I have two questions maybe 3. Being that the truck will be pretty much a daily driver. What Is the most durable paint (acrylic, urethane,???). How much paint should I get of the 2 colors. The last question I'm going to clear it but I'm going to use a ghost pearl from paint with pearls. What Is the best kind of clear for this. What I'm going to do Is add a red ghost pearl to the white and a white/silver to the red. This pearl gets added to the clear. I figured one decent wet coat of each then clear the entire truck with regular clear.
What's the difference between paint for car exterior and paint for home use? How many cans of paint would I need for a compact SUV? Would 4 layers be enough?

Is anyway DIY can save money because maybe only use that compressor one time so we can use compressor around $250?
Love this channel for learning....
Do you want to sand between paint and clear?
What kind of paint do you recommend for a classic car?
It looks like you sprayed first coat and second coat back to back with no cure time. Is that correct? Great content. I always enjoy your vids. Makes me think I could do this on my own vehicle as well. Cheers Howard
Can you do a review on the Walcom carbonio 360 HTE base?
Yes.
Good video, good advice.
Do a single stage Paint job tutorial!
how do you recommend sanding off old peeling clear coat with decent paint still on the car?
I’m in Las Vegas where do I buy paint? I did the rattle can paint and I was amazed but ready to buy a machine and gun for this
What kind/brand/spec respirator are you using? Good videos.
Brian - have you sprayed any flat colors? I'd be curious how different the process is over a typical base / clear. Maybe you could show us on a junk hood as an example? At first I wasn't a fan of the factory flats, but they're starting to grow on me.
Do you do anything with your gun between coats?
Hi, love your videos, great quality and great instruction, thanks. Very helpful as I prepare to DIY fix clear coat fading and some other paint needs for my car. Also located in Soflo, let me know if you have any recommendations for paint booths to rent (Live in an apartment building so no garage).

Hi Brian, how spray my sealer nice and smoon
What's the difference between paint for car exterior and paint for home use? How many cans of paint would I need for a compact SUV? Would 4 layers be enough?
