The last point on transcendence reminds me of the lacanian/psychoanalytic perspective of acceptance and association with the symptom.
This entire video reminds me of... A certain text...

Hey there Frugal! Another great comment as always. Could you expand a little bit on acceptance/association with the symptom as well as which text you are referring to?
I am just heading out the door to buy groceries but just wanted to briefly write that Maslow was in the humanistic tradition & his works helped lead to the growth of the positive psychology movement. Freud viewed human nature to be largely negative whereas Maslow was much more optimistic and emphasized the human desire to grow and to achieve this esoteric concept that we all recognize: our potential. While it isn't really something tangible, we all know what is meant when someone tells you "you are not living up to your potential!"
Also, Maslow was heavily influenced by Zen Buddhism, Eastern Philosophy & Alan Watts in particular and his later idea of Self-Transcendence (we might consider Martin Luther King Jr, Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi, or the monks who self-immolated to protest the Vietnam war to be examples of self-transcenders) were particular influenced by Eastern ideas of awakening & self-realization.
I will have to read a little more on Lacan when I get home!

No worries Sarang, thanks for commenting my friend! I believe it is very important for our growth as human beings to clearly define our aim in terms of the positive qualities and characteristics which we wish to develop in ourselves that will make us happier & healthier as well as our friendships, families, communities & planet.
I will do more and more videos along these lines in the future!
