A friend got me a Miyoo Mini+ while they were traveling without knowing I had been trying to get one for over a year now, I've been a huge fan of it with Onion OS

Once my baby is old enough to not choke on peanuts, I'm definitely getting him one of these. I'd MUCH rather him get introduced to gaming with one of these than a tablet connected to the internet
You should probably just give him a ds or something like that. These things seem too fussy for a toddler, plus those can be found for like, 30 bucks. Pop in an R4 with games, and BOOM. Perfect

The moment he says he never plays the Miyoo Mini but it's always in his bag is the foremost reason that you should get a Nano or a Pixel. Because having it in your bag is not as convenient as having it in your pocket. Even if the bag is with you constantly, having to bring it in front of you, rifle through it for the handheld, retrieve the handheld, close up the bag and then place it back in your shoulder is enough time that I would already be a minute into Dragon Quest 3 on the Nano. And when you only have minutes potentially to play, you end up leaving Mega Man in a perpetual frozen state, glad it's there is you ever get a solid half hour of free time but it's never convenient. I've finished A Link to the Past, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Symphony of the Night on the Nano, all with idle minutes that I'd normally just be on my phone instead. He made the argument better than I could. A Nano in the pocket is with 2 Miyoos in the bag.
As someone who owns an Odin Pro that can comfortably emulate most Gamecube/PS2 games, I tend to find myself playing my RG35XX waaaay more, given its much smaller size and effortless sleep functionality. Could not agree more with the statement of "the best handheld is the one you have with you".
Is Odin pro the one that has the windows on it Because Windows can't be slepped as far as I'm aware. Part of the reason I play my Steam deck so much is because you can put it to sleep.
@@bland9876Odin 2 is android. It's large enough that it's definitely past pocketable. It's expensive enough it begs the question, why not just get a Steam Deck? A RP4 Pro is more pocketable and less expensive than Odin 2, but Odin 2 has that SD 8 Gen 2 performance edge PS2 & GC level and more ergo.
I have a Funkey, dude this thing is mind boggling. It can run PS1 and even N64. The latter you need custom ROMs like for Mario 64 but the fact it can run it, wtf, this blows my mind as someone that grew up with tech like the NES.
I feel like that's part of the price point problem with the funkey s. 70$ is too much for something id buy as a gimmick and i cant imagine playing anything past gba without hating the experience. I love my OG Miyoo Mini. It's still my most favorite retro handheld out of all the devices I currently own. This thing sits in my bag all day with a case and it barely takes any space. Perfect for quick little gaming sessions 😄
This is why I love my retroid flip. Sure I'm worried about the hinge and it's definitely more pricey. But they've updated the hinges, and its way more comfortable than the Miyoo mini plus for me, and I can slip it into my pocket and always have it on me without fearing the screen breaking. Soon as that Miyoo flip comes out tho 👀
I just bought a 280v and a rg nano a couple days ago and while both are great I prefer the 280v handheld, even though it’s old by now it still holds up against newer devices and both are costs the same.
the 280v is my LEAST favorite handheld out of 10+. The ergonomics suck. The rg280m blows it away in comfort and is just as pocketable, solid build quality.
Just an update too about the Miyoo Mini. OnionOS 4.3.0 (beta) now has integrated Nintendo DS emulation that's runs great. Worth knowing if someone is looking for a smaller system like these, but wants the one with the ability to play more Pokémon games.
I have large hands, I beat every 2D Metroid on the FunKey S and had a blast. It's so tiny it's like an extra element of fun tacked on to whatever you're playing.
I didn't love my retroid pocket 2+ so I gifted it to my husband who had fun setting it up etc, and got a Miyoo Mini Plus which I am loving. Perfect size, I'm glad I went for the plus instead of the original size.
That last comment about the micro really speaks to me. Us big hand folk can't deal with the vertical tiny gadgets. Loving my RBG30 for this very reason.
One of the very best things with the miyoo mini (with onion) is definitely for me its compatibility with the plus model. Just switch the cards and you can keep gaming on either. (just got the "3 in 1" case for both, absolutely great especially for the mini classic; cheap and adds a LOT of comfort).
Just got the Trimui Smart and it made me sell my RG Nano, extremely compact, horizontal handheld and can kinda run NDS as well, with wifi and bluetooth its one of the best so far
5:23 perhaps the keychain could be used to hang it from a bag when traveling. it's so small it just looks like a random bag charm until you unclip and start playing Pokemon on it 😂
Funkey S is my favourite, I don't have to think about it... it's always with me and ready to go at a flip of a screen. Is it good for long play sessions? No but if I wanted that I'd use something like the switch or a handheld PC. I can also hide it in my hand while I play which lets me avoid weird looks when I'm out and about.
I settled for a rg35xx plus and I couldn't be happier. The stock OS is nothing to write home about sure but it works and with some fiddling I was able to replace some outdated retroarch cores and setup my own roms and now all games run great. Currently playing through some PS1 classics, can't wait to try the hdmi out as soon as I get a cable.
I can personally attest that the funkey nano is much more durable than it looks. Took about a year in my pocket to get some noticeable damage, and I walk quite a bit too (around 3-4 miles each day). Its attached in keychain form factor, to my personal keys too.
Man that cover is such a good idea for more grip. That should be something that is focused on with all these tiny pocket devices. Full protection and letting adults play that really are the main target audience. Also I’d like to see some single handed devices… obviously designed for RPGs like FF or pokemon. I remember jailbreaking an ancient iPhone and a gbc emulator had a button layout that worked perfectly for one hand.
I’m kinda starting to lean towards micro-handhelds over “pocketable” ones like the Miyoo Mini or RG35XX. If I wanna do any serious gaming in the go, I’ll take my RP2 or just bring my Switch. And for quick little bite size rounds of gaming I feel the RG Nano or the Funkey is way more convenient because it’s literally the size of a tomogachi. But things like the Miyoo or the RG35XX are to small for longer sessions and to big to be super convenient like the Nano or the Funkey.
@@caspay21 I think anything smaller than a switch lite in size is conveniently portable. That means it could fit in my glove box or my pocket pretty easily. My issue with the Miyoo Mini and RG35XX is less their size and more so their form factor and especially the delicate screen. They’re beautiful screens, but one good drop or to much pressure and they pop out or break. I’m not throwing something like that in my pocket or a bag without a case lol
i overpayed like 50% for my miyoo mini 2 (back when bots literally auto purchased all of them when the official store restocked) and dont regret it at all. Amazing device
So i have the RG35XX (thanks to your amazing reviews) running on Garlic, and I'm convinced there isn't sleep modes or suspending games exactly. But instead powering up a game from sleep/ suspension is just the handheld instantly loading a save state of the game that auto saved as you suspended it/ entered sleep mode and therefore isn't actually suspending games in the background. That might be why your mega man was still able to play from suspension after so long. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong c:
I really love my PowKiddy V90. It's shittier in many respects than every device you showed here, but it's normally between $30 and $40, occasionally a bit less. It's also a clamshell that is a comfortable size in the hand. And, while the firmware is nothing amazing, the MiyooCFW project (the name was less confusing before the Miyoo mini was released) has recently managed to put together a 2.0 beta that's completely open source instead of just mixing and matching binaries, which means it should be easier to support long-term.
I literally have the miyoo mini, Anbernic RG-Nano, FunKey S and I have the GKD Pixel on pre-order 😅 these are really my favourite form factor of retro gaming handhelds!
My only two of these retro handhelds i own at the moment are the OG Miyoo Mini and the RP2S. Honestly I find myself almost exclusively using the RP2S, its roughly the size of a GBA and ergonomics are just perfect. I love my miyoo a lot but I just don't reach for it as often
I'm loving my Miyoo Mini+ as well. I realize it's a wee bit bigger than the original Miyoo Mini, but the larger screen size makes a big difference for my 38 year old (and aging) eyes. It's the same width as my iPhone XR, albeit shorter and thicker, but still quite pocketable, I think anyway.
This is exactly what I've been looking for :D I've been looking at these because I've been getting into making Gameboy games recently and want to play on similar hardware. I already have an OG 3ds for portable gaming and i love it but it's super heavy sometimes and the battery leaves something to he desired.
"Best device is the one you have with you". Agreed. Might pick uo one of these pocketable devices, but I think a good pocket gaming option is using yout phone and that 8bitdo keychain controller. Getting more use out of apple arcade and the afterplay is really nice for emulation option for iphone.
Got my Miyoo Mini+ for christmas and it's my favorite thing to just have in my bag for whenever I have time for my pokemon run or kirby playthrough. Already beat 4 kirby games and pokemon emerald, so I would also recommend the miyoo mini+
As someone who has like not very big hands and owns a Miyoo Mini Plus I gotta say I couldn’t imagine using these things for longer than 2 minutes. The Plus kills my hands cramping wise so these seem like a nightmare.
i have a miyoo mini (original) but i never ever use it because i feel like it'd break if it ever falls from my lap or a table or anything. it looks and feels like an egg that will crack if you drop it, and.. ive seen that happen to a ton of people on reddit as well. how has yours held up for so long?
Agreed with the intentional thought on the use-case for these tiny devices. For me, they are perfect dedicated JRPG machines. I’ve been using an old tiny android phone for a similar use.
I ordered the Powkiddy V90 yesterday. My biggest issue is apparently the screen not being protected and having a case defeats the purpose of it being small. So hopefully it is perfect for me. Mainly play Gameboy Advance games anyway.
Man, Powkiddy is really sleeping on releasing a new device with that form factor. On the plus side, being such a veteran handheld means it is quite cheap to get nowadays. I don't think a case is needed for that one.
Serious question, is the miyoo mini worth it? I’ve been looking for something to play all GB games and was looking towards an advance sp. would games like Pokémon play exactly the same on the miyoo mini as they would on a GB. Or should I go with something like the rg35x?
Pretty much any handheld out there can handle GB/GBC without trouble and the ones you mentioned can do GBA as well. so pick whatever you think would be more comfortable. I don't think the og mini is still available without getting scalped, the plus and the xx are almost the same size (for comparison, the size of a standard filled men's wallet) so balance the features and price to pick one.
Has Wulff den done any videos about the everdrive? Debating whether to buy one and not sure if they are worth it or not. There are at least 3 everdrives I'd be interested in, the n64, gba, and snes everdrives. If he hasn't done a video on those yet I'd love to see one
I love the metal construction. If it wasn't such a bad grade and no CFW or possible upgrade later makes it really hard to recommend. If someone made a metal MM or MM+ shell that would be awesome. Lets look!
I have an Anbernic RG351v but have been thinking about getting the RG35XX instead because of the more recent chipset. I'm not even going to try to get a Miyoo mini 😅
I heard from other channels that the developer of mini ui is working on releasing it on this platform. If that happens then this thing is going to be real nice.
Have you ever talked about emulation on a switch lite? I see them used in my local classifieds for about $100 and I wonder if it’s better than saving up a couple more bucks and getting some other portable console that you’ve reviewed.
i have a mini but i had to get rg nano. 1:1 square display for neo geo color, gb and gbc and double the battery of funkey s in a metal shell with 3.5 audio support
I love the idea of these mini handhelds but i personally find even the miyoo mini plus to be just on the side of too small for me. Im waiting for a good version of a gameboy advance sp style handheld that can get as small as some of these while being a tad on the larger side when deployed.
This is approximately where I'm at. The Miyoo Mini Plus is about as small as I'm willing to go. Anything smaller and it's just painful to actually play on. These extremely-mini handhelds are interesting in a "Look! I can play DOOM on this postage-stamp-sized device!" way, but not to actually use for gaming.
@@chemicalburrito782 I wonder if a device designed to be used in one hand would be the answer, something with the design language of a tamagotchi or a digivice.
I have atleast 100+ games on both my fun key s and they are very fun and pretty comfortable for how small they are but my mind was blown when PlayStation games worked on them and the only downside is not all PlayStation or n64 games work if they need a L2-R2 or stick but other then that playing initial d and other titles are super fun.
I kinda wish there was something like a clam shell one that is easily pocketable but more processing power. Maybe even a clam shell controller for phones.
Who else spends more time watching videos about these handhelds than playing one?

Got my Miyoo Mini+ for christmas and it's my favorite thing to just have in my bag for whenever I have time for my pokemon run or kirby playthrough. Already beat 4 kirby games and pokemon emerald, so I would also recommend the miyoo mini+
Idk why Bob gets so much hate for ads. It's always my favorite part of the videos 😊
Right??? 😅 they’re always pretty hilarious too
Where does he get hate? This is like an astroturf comment.
People always say they love them in the comments
I do appreciate the effort. Find myself skipping them less than other channels.
I think the Miyoo Mini will hold a special spot in the gaming world for now on.
Fantastic device. On the go I play the Miyoo. At home, its Odin. Can't wait to see there Flip design coming out
Have a Funkey S and love it. Once you get the grip figured out, it's a lot easier to use. Even completed Super Metroid on it.
liked for the ad. another good one man
As someone who has like not very big hands and owns a Miyoo Mini Plus I gotta say I couldn’t imagine using these things for longer than 2 minutes.
What happened to the RG280V and why it isn't on the list :
RG280V : where the fuck am I
*RG280V gets violated*
Totally agree on the pixel. Looks awesome but its was expensive especially when the competition is great as well.
For pocketable gaming I go with either my Gameboy Macro or the OG Odroid Go.
The custom firmware for the Miyoo Mini is great. That's the reason I haven't bought any of its competitors.
Where can I get that 3D print file for the case? Love the idea!
for anyone else who forgets to eat, setting a phone reminder and having a stash of energy/protein bars helps me out a lot :--)
You should have actually gotten your mom to do the VO for the Factor ad
I heard from other channels that the developer of mini ui is working on releasing it on this platform. If that happens then this thing is going to be real nice.
One handed playing RPGs like Pokemon is pretty cool in these
Have you ever talked about emulation on a switch lite?
I got the MM+ and finally finished another Pokémon since I beat all of gen 1 on the Gameboy as a lil kid 😊
Cant wait for the next handheld video
I kinda wish there was something like a clam shell one that is easily pocketable but more processing power. Maybe even a clam shell controller for phones.
An updated V90 with the sleek aestethics of the newer handhelds would be great
@@gustavovm491 Maybe they can just do something like a 3DS with an improved CPU/RAM/IPS screen would be great.
