Retroid Pocket 3+ (Today I would buy 4 pro) Covers almost everithing I need in retro. Steamdeck for steam games. (Many retro / retro style games available on steam, you can run GOG on it)

My list is: Switch, Deck, PC, PS5. I agree you really only need 3, I would like to get a Miyoo Mini and probably will, but my phone does the trick when I have 'time', games like Dawncaster, Pawnbarian, and others keep me more than happy and sideloading Delta for some GBA games
RG35XXSP (or H if you care about N64 and Dreamcast that cannot run all the games) and Steam Deck best combo imo the Steam Deck is my favorite gaming system of all time, I wish it would be officially sold in my country to acquire the OLED. I can also use the Steam Deck as a streaming system replacing the Couch Device category completely.
When I was younger, I was one of "those" guys who actually carried a Gamegear in my pocket... I also had cargo pants.... My other cargo pocket had a spare pack of AA batteries.
My Trifecta: 1.- Miyoo Mini Plus, Anbernic RG Nano (I'm gonna buy those after watch so many videos) 2.- Nintendo Switch (thinkin in acquire an Steam Deck in the future or something similar) 3.- My Rog Asus Laptop and PS5 👋😃 Cheers
I bought a MM+ a few months back and won a logitech G cloud last month in a pringles competition and i have to agree. MM+ perfect on the go and G cloud just streams so well and the battery life is unrivaled
Your channel is a breath of fresh air in a Europa sized ocean of retro TH-cam channels. Mmmm, now i see that written down, i can see it's not actually the clever comment I thought It'd be. Anyways, I subbed - the "you should start a fire" line in the pocket S video still has me laughing 20 minutes later mate.
Just got an RG533v, and along with my PC and Switch OLED I'm set. Thanks for these videos! They are continually entertaining and educational! Totally my favorite retro emulation channel.
6-700 for a PC is wayyyy out of my price range, as much as I'd love that more than anything... So here's the 3 devices I use, that I got with some financial help from loved ones. 1. Retroid Pocket 2+ for that pocketable life, also double as an android "phone" for me. 2. Steam Deck 64gb for it's flexibility, also doubles as my main computer thanks to a $15 dock I bought years ago for a phone. 3. Xbox Series S for TV gaming when the Deck isn't quite powerful enough. It was very cheap at $250 and I only have a 1080p display I got for free anyway. Maybe someday I'll recover and heal enough to work again and I'll be able to afford to build a PC, but for now this setup has me covered for almost everything.
I'm not into retro, here's my trifecta: PS5 - play exclusives, couch gaming, no installation hassles Switch OLED - exclusives, portability, local multiplayer PC - flexibility, be able to play War Thunder
My killer combo line up is the Miyoo Mini Plus, Odin 2 Pro, a Laptop with Batocera, and Xbox series X. But if I was given to choose only one for gaming, I will choose my Odin.
How about a video on upscaling? A comparison video using a powerful enough handheld like the Odin 2. Side by side comparison between redream, nethersx2 and more.
That intro is everything. 😂by the way, you have now got me thinking about that middle device because I have something to cover the other ends. Thank you dweeb!
My combination is: 1. Anbernic RG35XX for games up to PS1 2. My own android smartphone (Galaxy S22) paired with the Razer Kishi V2 controller and Beacon frontend launcher for games up to PS2 3. A decent budget friendly but powerful PC, which is also used for emulation for games up to PS3 If you, like me, like to use your smartphone for emulation. I highly recommend using the Beacon frontend launcher. It keeps your whole library of emulated games, from various emulators you have installed, all in one place. Similarly on PC, I use Playnite to keep all my PC games and emulated games organized. I also have all of my emulated games nicely organized in folders on my external hard drive with a copy of playnite installer and playnite setup backup, so I can take it with me to my friends house and play on any PC pretty much instantly. I believe I have gone the cheapest route possible without compromising anything significant. Although, there was a lot of tinkering to get everything the way I wanted it. Which is something I love to do, but I know it isn't fun for everyone.
Right here’s my 4 PS5 (Main AAA) PS Portal (couch device) Switch (Nintendo exclusives) Legion Go (PC exclusives & on the go AAA) Also have a MacBook for work and the odd game that can be played on it
A hacked New 3DS makes for a fantastic pocket device. Lots of emulators, (standalone or Retroarch), natively runs 3DS games, DS roms, and GBA roms. You can install 3DS carts to storage, so you don't need to take them around with you. You can play some DS roms in true widescreen, (only stretches 2D stuff). Pictochat. You've got homebrew ports like, Quake 1 and 2, Diablo 1, 3D Space Cadet Pinball, Half Life, and... (checks notes) Sonic Mania, apparently? Oh, and Linux. There is a 3DS Linux distro.
I only have two type of devices. A pocket friendly and a couch device wich is also my main device. My pocked Handheld is the RG35XX-H! I just love the horizontal form factor and the H has enough power for some PSP and DreamCast. House of the Dead 2 is currently my main game if I'm in a line or in a hospital and don't want to think really. My all in device os the Switch. Yes, it can't play every game, yes the Eshop is a pain in the ass and YES it's under powered... But MAAAN there are sooo many great games on it. Doom, Xenoblade, Zelda, Mario, and of course indy games. Red Dead Redemption was just a perfect first time experience on it for me. I bought so many games on it, that currently I don't even want to buy a next gen Switch because of my backlog. And I can play it on my TV and on my couch or toilet.
Intro was awesome :D have a good time and lot of distance between you and some another frustrated guys! Not everyone gets your sense of humour I guess.
So what youre saying is you EDC a miyoo mini or miyoo mini plus lol I have a ROG AllyX and its perfect in so many ways! But its too large to carry with or pull out for short durations when traveling out day to day and waiting around. Thanks for the vid! I am thinking ill get a. RP2S and see if its pocketable for that slot. And i guess i have a solid desktop PC for my 3rd device. I hacked an old chromebox to running linux Bazzite for a retro game system on the TV for my partner. Was a fun project! Seems to be able to run up to Gamecube games mostly, but crashes for anything harder than that...
Currently just have a modded Switch for modern stuff, and a raspberry pi 400 for retro. It covers a lot, but it would be nice to have a gaming mini PC and maybe a small retro handheld. OTOH, time is always limited and I have an endless pile of other things I should be doing instead. It would genuinely be kind of nice to live in The Mom's basement with nothing I need to do but play games and see friends.
Great introduction and presentation, you have a pretty good comedic timing! I also liked the aesthetics of the scenario and the pop-ups on the screen, worth a subscribe! But what sold me is the fact that you sound a lot like Zach Hadel lol Jokes aside, keep up with your content style, its great!
Back in the day my combo was CFW PSP + PS3. Today, a decade later, I'd probably just go for my PC, and a CFW OLED PS Vita. The Steam Deck though... Damn, i don't want it. I need it.
For me it's: - Retroid Pocket Flip - all the retro plus some light Switch games (and also android ports - vampire survivor, Morrowind, Fallouts and similar). -Rog Ally - dock and handheld - pc games plus modern (and some older gen) systems - 3ds - for all DS and 3DS games that require both screens I have many more handhelds, but the limit here is 3 :)
You awesome dweebs love your vids. For me I like your Channel and retro game corps equally. You make me buy retro handheld my first is 35xx. After I watch your Miyoo mini I bought plus immediately, bcoz I can’t find Miyoo mini.
Yay! Love for the underrated G-Cloud. The battery life on that system is EPIC. Nothing compares. They just recently gave the system video out capability, which means you can use Xreal glasses or a monitor and have an even bigger screen!
I knew for sure the og miyoo mini and steam deck would be on this list but I am def very shocked to see the g cloud figured the 3rd one would be rp4 or odin 2
Great video TechDweeb! I'd love to see/hear your opinion on how you feel about Controller grips for Phones/Tablets. It seems a lot of grips don't fit if you have a phone case, and I wonder if it would make a tablet feel ridiculously large.
Love this concept. For gaming devices, I'm going with Meta Quest 3, Galaxy Z Fold smartphone (with a telescopic controller) , a PC, and a Nintendo Switch. I cheated, that's 5 gadgets.
As a normie PC gamer I'll stick to my (android) phone, Steam Deck OLED, and gaming PC. The deck fulfills the fantasy that the switch promised for pc enthusiasts. The pocket emulator ones like the neo mini are interesting though, maybe pick one up later down the line.
I was not surprised by your choices, but in the best way. We seem to agree on some of these things. 1) has to fit in the pocket and have your minimum desired specs. It's the best it can be to fit your needs while STILL fitting in your pocket well enough to be your everyday carry (phone, wallet, keys, and handheld). 2) The gaming device that is portable, and powerful, but is more of a device you put into a bag. From RP3+ all the way up to the steam deck or ROG... This device is capable of playing ANYTHING from Atari&Arcade to modern PC gaming ALL the way up to streaming triple A's from your PC to your couch. And 3), whatever the MOST powerful gaming device you can afford fits here. Your console, your PC, or even crazy people like me building a server JUST for streaming high end games... This device should be able to play EVERYTHING you could want to throw at it. I have many devices too I have collected over the years... Miyoo, RP2/+, Steam deck, consoles, PCs... The devices I use the MOST are those that BEST fit those 3 use cases. I find that devices that do this job the best will get the MOST play time and be the most useful in my gaming life. Theoretically there are other combinations. Maybe you are on the road too much and you need more power. So maybe you have a steam deck or a gaming laptop. Maybe you are home a bunch and dislike the poor ergonomics of a small handheld. So you have a gaming PC and or a steam deck. Maybe you only have $60 to game and a PC is just too expensive... So you buy a Miyoo mini + or one of those other budget devices like the R36S... There is a solution out there for you. Do your research, and join us in the fun 😊 All that being said... I have an opinion and I'll share it with you... I think your first gaming device should play what you want to play... But I think EVERYONE should have some kind of PC... Mostly because I believe the PC to be the ultimate tool in the modern world.
For me,.I have two pocket devices, the RG35XX+ for most of my retro stuff, my hacked Vita for Vita, PSP and Ape Escape (I could play Retroarch on that too, but the RG I'd just a better experience), and then my plan is to round out the trinity with an as-yet-undecided handheld PC (I'm leaning towards the Legion Go for the screen and hardware versatility) to cover higher end emulation and modern games
Now that I have my steam deck I am so in love with PC gaming. I already was in love, but the steam deck really makes things so simple and it’s a great companion to my main rig
Here my 3 that i have - Desktop with 4070 - Odin 2 to play high end emulation , and streaming with the Xreal Air !!! Hello Cyberpunk 1080p 120hz on a big screen ( i have wifi acces 99% of times) - Miyoo mini as a pocket device
Android smartphone - pocketable, functions as a cell phone, web browser, pda, and gaming device. Picked up a clamp on controller that fits in my other pocket and its super comfortable to game on. It also plays everything up to ps2, dreamcast, wii/gc with no issues. I think a powerful android smartphone and a powerful gaming PC for everything else are the only two devices i need. However, i still opt to carry around my 3DS because someone has to be the streetpass beacon of their hometown.
When you did your intro I figure you would pick 3 by screen size ratio , Like 4:3 for retro games RGB30 square screen for PICO-8 and other square screen games, and 16:9 for modern games. But Nope I was far from right on this one. lol
My three combo now is the Switch Lite (because it has four of the best games ever in Loop Hero, Brotato, Into The Breach and Vampire Survivors), the RGB30 (mainly for Pico-8 and vertical MAME stuff) and a hacked 3DS because you can't really emulate it properly anywhere else.
Steam deck, tab s9 ultra, rp3+, and a desktop pc. Play anything, anytime. Always carry a slingbag with all the add on goodies too. Controller, powerbank, headphones.
My favorite handheld devices alongside my midrange gaming pc from 2020 are currently my DS lite + R4 Card and my homebrew modded 3DS XL, the latter one doing surprisingly good with emulation of most older systems
My 3 are GPD Win Max 2 (or Win 4 but WM2 services as a laptop better) KTR1 GKD Pixel WM2 crushes everything I throw at it including email and excel. It's my travel laptop. KTR1 is the best size to performance ratio on the market, imo, and has that 1080p, 3:2 ratio, high density pixel display. I love it. And the GKD Pixel is my "never leave home without it" device. It only recently replaced the Nano due to the extra 2 shoulders and the bigger screen. Although the Nano performs better, the Pixel is just easier to play on. Love the video, man. I'm happy to say that I have all three of these items. been happy with them for a long time too!
Ive recently got into retro handhelds and my Zazzbizzle is absolutely perfect for. You sir, are a retro inspiration for me.
Nice! Thanks buddy!
Just want to congratulate you for your content, it is funny, interesting, well mounted and your background has something really unique, every time a video pops out I click. For the wellbeing of humanity, please keep up your hard dedication, you deserve a ton, thank you so much!
Thanks buddy, will do!
My list is:
Switch, Deck, PC, PS5.
I agree you really only need 3, I would like to get a Miyoo Mini and probably will, but my phone does the trick when I have 'time', games like Dawncaster, Pawnbarian, and others keep me more than happy and sideloading Delta for some GBA games
RG35XXSP (or H if you care about N64 and Dreamcast that cannot run all the games) and Steam Deck best combo imo
the Steam Deck is my favorite gaming system of all time, I wish it would be officially sold in my country to acquire the OLED.
I can also use the Steam Deck as a streaming system replacing the Couch Device category completely.
Intro of the year!
That comment lol. I love it when peeps just don't get Da Dweeb.
My 3 are the Analogue Pocket, Switch, and Steam Deck. Pretty much gets you everything ever made with the highest accuracy 😁
When I was younger, I was one of "those" guys who actually carried a Gamegear in my pocket... I also had cargo pants.... My other cargo pocket had a spare pack of AA batteries.
This is great, it's like they say with cameras... The best one is the one you have with you
My Trifecta:
1.- Miyoo Mini Plus, Anbernic RG Nano (I'm gonna buy those after watch so many videos)
2.- Nintendo Switch (thinkin in acquire an Steam Deck in the future or something similar)
3.- My Rog Asus Laptop and PS5
👋😃 Cheers
I like when Tech Dweeb shoves his dongle into the USB A hole
Marriage vow: You will be the only person who can interrupt my flow.
I'll make sure to tell my future wife that at our wedding vows
I bought a MM+ a few months back and won a logitech G cloud last month in a pringles competition and i have to agree. MM+ perfect on the go and G cloud just streams so well and the battery life is unrivaled
Nice! Congrats!
Love this channel. My favourite are the hidden gem videos.
Thanks! More to come!
@@TechDweeb we need a neo geo video also
My setup:
Pocket size: RG35XXH and a Miyoo Mini Plus
Couch: bought a G Clould after watching this video
Modern gaming: my badass PC
Amazing combo! Enjoy your new toy 👍
MM+, RP3/4, Steam Deck, Desktop PC is the ultimate combo
I'm not into retro, here's my trifecta:
PS5 - play exclusives, couch gaming, no installation hassles
Switch OLED - exclusives, portability, local multiplayer
PC - flexibility, be able to play War Thunder
My killer combo line up is the Miyoo Mini Plus, Odin 2 Pro, a Laptop with Batocera, and Xbox series X. But if I was given to choose only one for gaming, I will choose my Odin.
You only need an ROG Ally. Beefy for gaming, also an entire PC
I love mine
Yea try whipping that out while waiting at the DMV 😂
@@netnomad47 Same as whipping out a Switch
"It has nothing to do with how many RG35XX pluses I have in my pocket."
"I have 3 btw"
Haha jokes on you! I have my classic janko pants on and im holding 3 steamdecks in my pockets
That's what she said
@@suhtangwong Lmaaaaao
Great video. I like seeing models that can fulfill various roles like this.
Pure entertainment and pure exactly-what-I-wanted, as always.
Good mix. Personally, I'd suggest RG35XX(+) (for bigger hands) / Beelink SER5 MAX dual boot win+batocera / Steam Deck (or RP4Pro for lighter / less worrisome carry)
This intro might be my favorite one so far, when you got all those rg35xx plus out of your pockets it was hilarious 😆
Haha thanks buddy!
been through a decent amount of devices and all i really use are my steam deck and 3ds love both of them
How about a video on upscaling? A comparison video using a powerful enough handheld like the Odin 2. Side by side comparison between redream, nethersx2 and more.
AMAZING suggestion!
@@TechDweeb love the upscaling on my Odin 2, brings new life to older games.
My personal trifecta:
The pocketable 4:3 - RG35XX H
The pocketable-ish 16:9 - RP3+
The unpocketable powerhouse - Steam Deck
That intro is everything. 😂by the way, you have now got me thinking about that middle device because I have something to cover the other ends. Thank you dweeb!
Just get a Steam Deck . Done and Done. GJ TechDweeb!!
My combination is:
1. Anbernic RG35XX for games up to PS1
2. My own android smartphone (Galaxy S22) paired with the Razer Kishi V2 controller and Beacon frontend launcher for games up to PS2
3. A decent budget friendly but powerful PC, which is also used for emulation for games up to PS3
If you, like me, like to use your smartphone for emulation.
Not me watching this on my steam deck....
Right here’s my 4
PS5 (Main AAA)
PS Portal (couch device)
Switch (Nintendo exclusives)
Legion Go (PC exclusives & on the go AAA)
Also have a MacBook for work and the odd game that can be played on it
Ever since i got into hand helds this has got to be my favorite channel
The intro was so based that I had to sub. Also cuz your voice sounds like Phineas from Phineas & Ferb.
Even though I don't use it much the Steam deck for the all in one device is spot on. My top 3 are the Switch, PS5 & Miyoo Mini. Thanks for the video.
Deck, Switch & 2 vertical Anbernic devices, since they all fit in my small Deck shoulder bag.
Hi! Just wanted to let you know that this is the first video of yours that I’m watching and I subscribed within the first minute of it 🫶🏻
Thanks buddy, welcome!
Intro was awesome :D have a good time and lot of distance between you and some another frustrated guys! Not everyone gets your sense of humour I guess.
0:13 OK now I am jealous! You ARE living the dream!
So what youre saying is you EDC a miyoo mini or miyoo mini plus lol
I have a ROG AllyX and its perfect in so many ways!
Since I don't live in Canada anymore that fridge full of root beer is what hits me the most with unfiltered envy.
My set up:
RG35XXH
Logitech G Cloud
Switch
Xbox Series S
Steam Deck
Perfect!
@@TechDweeb do you have any accessories recommendations for any of the items in this video?
Currently just have a modded Switch for modern stuff, and a raspberry pi 400 for retro. It covers a lot, but it would be nice to have a gaming mini PC and maybe a small retro handheld. OTOH, time is always limited and I have an endless pile of other things I should be doing instead. It would genuinely be kind of nice to live in The Mom's basement with nothing I need to do but play games and see friends.
The Raspberry Pi 400 is great! I love it! ❤️
Great introduction and presentation, you have a pretty good comedic timing! I also liked the aesthetics of the scenario and the pop-ups on the screen, worth a subscribe!
But what sold me is the fact that you sound a lot like Zach Hadel lol
Jokes aside, keep up with your content style, its great!
The deck is no joke. I finally bought my wife one after two years of trying to get her interested.
Back in the day my combo was CFW PSP + PS3.
Today, a decade later, I'd probably just go for my PC, and a CFW OLED PS Vita.
The Steam Deck though... Damn, i don't want it. I need it.
For me it's:
- Retroid Pocket Flip - all the retro plus some light Switch games (and also android ports - vampire survivor, Morrowind, Fallouts and similar).
-Rog Ally - dock and handheld - pc games plus modern (and some older gen) systems
- 3ds - for all DS and 3DS games that require both screens
I have many more handhelds, but the limit here is 3 :)
One thing I like in this videos it's when you guys put on the names of the games that show up. Sometimes they look great and I don't know them 😬
Haha I'm the same! That's why I do it. I hate not knowing what game I'm looking at on the screen :P
My List:
* Metal PiBoy DMG
* SteamDeck
* Laptop
* Gaming PC
Using a metal PiBoy to play old gameboy games is incredibly cozy
You awesome dweebs love your vids. For me I like your Channel and retro game corps equally. You make me buy retro handheld my first is 35xx. After I watch your Miyoo mini I bought plus immediately, bcoz I can’t find Miyoo mini.
Thanks for saying so buddy! The MM+ is a legend, you're in good hands
Yay! Love for the underrated G-Cloud. The battery life on that system is EPIC. Nothing compares.
They just recently gave the system video out capability, which means you can use Xreal glasses or a monitor and have an even bigger screen!
Here is a list of all of my emulation handhelds so far
SF2000
R40S PRO
Miyoo Mini+
Retroid Pocket 2s
Solid list!
@@TechDweeb the addiction is getting worse😭I CANT STOP BUYING THEM
I knew for sure the og miyoo mini and steam deck would be on this list but I am def very shocked to see the g cloud figured the 3rd one would be rp4 or odin 2
Yeah I'm surprised too. I never expected to love the cloud as much as I do but I would definitely choose it over the rp4 or the odin, personally.
You've hurt my feelings with that intro! So jealous! 🥺🤣✌️
For me it's Console/PC, Odin 2/Powkiddy X55, Anbernic RG35XX.
Great video tech dweeb love your production quality and content!
Do your research, and join us in the fun 😊
All that being said... I have an opinion and I'll share it with you...
I think your first gaming device should play what you want to play... But I think EVERYONE should have some kind of PC... Mostly because I believe the PC to be the ultimate tool in the modern world.
Well said GP! Well said.
Miyoo and deck are enough for me. And a laptop - for work and for rare rts/boomershooter occasions.
The intro made my morning 😂😂😂
Here my 3 that i have
- Desktop with 4070
- Odin 2 to play high end emulation , and streaming with the Xreal Air !!! Hello Cyberpunk 1080p 120hz on a big screen ( i have wifi acces 99% of times)
- Miyoo mini as a pocket device
I have almost as much as you but 35XX H, pixel 6 with Gamesir g8 for comfort and x2s for portability and steam deck Oled is working well for me.
Steam Deck + Odin 2 + miyoo mini plus
YES!
When you did your intro I figure you would pick 3 by screen size ratio , Like 4:3 for retro games RGB30 square screen for PICO-8 and other square screen games, and 16:9 for modern games. But Nope I was far from right on this one. lol
0:34 Its the fridge of root beer. Would have thought that was obvious
Personally I'd go for a PS Vita and a Steam Deck.
I've had these 2 for years now, so reliable and versatile...it's a great time to be a budget gamer.
It's a good time to go back to retro gaming. Enjoying my Anbernic RG 35XX H.
Have you checked out Unicorn Overlord? I got it on the Switch since it's not out for the PC. It one of my favorite games on the Switch.
Steam deck, tab s9 ultra, rp3+, and a desktop pc. Play anything, anytime. Always carry a slingbag with all the add on goodies too. Controller, powerbank, headphones.
This guy is ‘GREAT’ !
My favorite handheld devices alongside my midrange gaming pc from 2020 are currently my DS lite + R4 Card and my homebrew modded 3DS XL, the latter one doing surprisingly good with emulation of most older systems
My 3 are
GPD Win Max 2 (or Win 4 but WM2 services as a laptop better)
KTR1
GKD Pixel
WM2 crushes everything I throw at it including email and excel.
From another 40ish year old to another, never grow up.
The KTR1 is awesome! I love that it is 3:2 as well.
