I bought a Miyoo Mini + because of this video, and I gotta say after the Onion set up process and rom transfer, I am in LOVE with it. Been feeling bummed out by modern gaming lately, so it's been great to go back to a simpler time when a game was just a game, not a storefront. Thanks for the recommendation!
Agreed. And I feel like such an "old" person saying this (29) but games truly were simpler back then. The game just released and you got the entire package.

I bought the rg35xx shortly after the video you made about it. After seeing the title I was worried I should've waited for this, then hearing about the price and the stock issues I think I'm thankful for my purchase.
That's the thing with these devices, there's ALWAYS a "new thing" coming out, it's super excessive. The trick is getting one that does what you want it to do, because a "new" and "better" one is bound to come out in three months.
Couldn't agree more, and I can't say I regret it. Very impressed with quality of RG35XX for price. Only complaint i have is my triggers rattle a bit but they function perfectly
@@PowerADAM423 You can easily modify the triggers to stop the rattle. I did it literally the moment I got my 35XX. I actually forgot they rattled out of the box.

I was in a similar situation as you. I purchased a 35xx and really like it. I wanted a Miyoo Mini but wasn't willing to pay twice the price for it from scalpers and other retailers

Truuuue. I agree the Miyoo seems really great. Unfortunately I just don't see the point in being interested in a device I can't get. Like deciding which personal jet company is the best. Never gonna have one so what do I care. What I'm saying is...I can't wait for the Anbernic personal jet 😂
It really did push me into getting an RG280V. Like everyone LOVES the Miyoo Mini, but that’s irrelevant and that praise is rather misguided at this point because the bulk of consumers can no longer get their hands on one. Advertising for the Miyoo Mini Plus is cool and all but its not a Miyoo Mini it’s a Miyoo Medium and for anyone who was into the mini form factor, this will no longer be as pleasing to them. Additionally, it really feels… pointless to advertise for these products building them up for the consumer just to find out that it’s unavailable. Miyoo stuff is respected but if it’s not available, it’s essentially time wasted. I didn't jump on the retro handheld train until this month in which the Miyoo Mini stock had been gone for months and the plus is not the size that I want.

Honestly you helped me out greatly by making this video (and previous ones about the mini and the anbernic). I've been trying to use my psp as an emulator console but it's age is really starting to show. The Anbernic seems like a great choice for my tastes
My friend picked up a Mini a year or two ago and i tried it but it was a bit too small for my hands to be comfortable, i have ordered a + and I hope it works better for me. Love your reviews, they're always a great help.
I love my miyoo mini, almost didn’t keep it cause i have an RP3 but now the miyoo is kind of my favorite. One handed RPG gameplay while bored waiting on something is really nice. Kinda reminds me of grinding Pokémon or whatever GBA rpgs on my GBA SP back in the day but a bit smaller and easier to play. The firmware totally makes the device too. The no sleep mode was infuriating at first.

Too late Miyoo, got the RG35XX and I'm super happy with it! I dealt with enough nonsense getting ahold of a PS5 last year, I don't need that for these little handhelds.
But man I love this stuff. A Game Boy Pocket that plays everything GBA and PS1 and Sega/SNES??? I love it! I missed out on a ton of games back in the 90's so this is absolutely wonderful.
EDIT: Worth noting the RG35XX I just got a few weeks ago doesn't have many D pad issues. I wonder if they fixed it.
Ikr. I'm not going to deal with artificial scarcity from Miyoo when I can get the RG35XX. Their loss.
The first one I bought had a much squirmier d pad. The replacement one was much stiffer. So there seem to be different batches.

@obvious_giraffe not really? Some are for sure, the miyoo mini is pretty solid, so is the retroid pocket 3+. Thooo gl with warranties with retroid unless ya don't mind diy

Its not that overwhelming, they all do the same thing. Just pick which one has the best formfactor for you, and maybe look up some reviews so you know what its capable of. If you dont know what to get, a great start is always anbernic, theyve got good selection and build quality.
I ordered the Anbernic RG35XX because I gave up on getting a Miyoo Mini. Then the Mini + became available and I put an order for 3 in. I wanted to give a couple out as gifts. Got my Anbernic and have been really enjoying it. Excited to Compare it to the Miyoo Mini +

@@ZZZer00 Personally I preferred the Anbernic. The Miyoo was harder to get a hold of, but I also like the feel of the Anbernic one more. Can't go wrong either way.
I got the rg35xx based off your previous video about it and It already feels a bit small for me, I can't imagine going much smaller. I've been loving the hell out of it though!

This video just made me appreciate and love my rg35xx even more for the fact that Miyoo Mini Plus is like you can only get in your imagination.
I love my Miyoo Mini, I'm very glad to have it. It really is the perfect device for me cause I been enjoying Pokemon Pinball all over again and whenever I'm waiting for renders or sitting in the drive through, etc it is just perfect to turn on play for a few minutes and then go about my day and I don't have to worry about it.
Miyoo Mini is so much more attractive than the larger sibling and clone. Glad I got one for my son last year.

Been playing some GBA on the Anbernic for a week now. Did the electrical tape mode for the D-pad & plays great... Love It... Didn't need it, but again Love it's portability!
I love the laugh in the ad, like we all know it's a skit. But that character break is real, it adds a level of authenticity that makes your word more genuine than the average scripted ad.
And that Bob puts effort into his ads. Each is a skit. I never skip his ads 😆

It's funny, I got an RG35XX for both myself and my girlfriend (because, hey, they are in stock!), and we agreed that if this were any smaller we wouldn't like it. I'd try a Miyoo Mini Plus just to compare, but I don't want to go through the headache of trying to secure one.

Great Video....I learned a lot about all of them, and looking forward to the customization video.
I will say, I recently got myself an anbernic, and you can fix the dpad issue by putting a bit of tape on the center contacts of the dpad's board, leaving just the outer contacts open.A bit cumbersome, but worth it IMO.
I just bought the Miyoo Mini + and the store i got it from already installed Onion OS newest version , it works smooth as hell. Best retro handheld ever!!

Unless Miyoo can get the supply issues sorted out, it's a no contest. They really need to do something about scalpers just grabbing all the devices before anyone else though, it's pretty ridiculous.
No one should have to stay up all night just for a chance at ordering one of these devices.

I’m a big Anbernic fan and I had to get the Miyoo Mini Plus after all the hype. I really like it. It’s a great handheld for on the go and that screen is so crisp and clean. 👌
I'm new to emulation devices and I'm getting this one! It looks like it has an active community. I learned about pico-8 and I'm excited to play. Wifi and other app features are cool too.
I bought my anbernic a couple of days ago and put garlic OS onto it with loads of games and im loving it so far

I am loving the anbernic a lot. I don't care to mess around with emulation too much but this comes stock, locked and loaded with pretty much anything I want to play except Mario games. Everything I have played doesn't have any weird issues either. I have the Mario games ready to play in other ways, so this is great for me. Thanks Bob for the first video on it. I literally bought it the day I saw the video and don't regret it.

Got the anbernic, I love it. I will say, being a novice at this sort of thing, putting Garlic OS on it hasn't been as pain free as I hoped. It boots but doesn't recognize my roms yet. In the right folders and everything.
I followed techdweebs guide to a T as im new to all this too, and it works flawlessly. I used retrogamecorpse guide as well if you haven't gotten it working yet or checked their guides out go check em out

Managed to order one from Keep Retro when they first dropped pre-orders. This will be my second emulation device. The Ayn Odin will remain my primary driver and the Miyoo will mainly be for portability.

I’ve just ordered 2 of these for my kids for Christmas - we have switches but my 10 year old has been asking me to get a DS and the older Pokémon and Zelda games but it’s soo expensive. My 7year old will like to play one or 2 of the Pokémon games and trade with her sister over wifi but she will love the older Mario and yoshi games :)

I was about to buy the rg35xx, but decided to wait for the drop they just had a few days ago and managed to snag one. Can 100% agree that Miyoo really is losing a ton of sales because of their stock issues. If I hadn't had managed to be one of the lucky ones, I already had the rg35xx sitting in my cart on another page. Hopefully with the plus using easier to obtain screens, we'll see better stock, but it's not looking good so far.

@@Admiral-but they have sourcing issues. If they can't meet demand then they are losing money. And poeple may not even bother checking they have stock because it's gotten so bad.

Just got in the midol mini plus and so far I’m loving it, only down side is if I’m wearing polarized sunglasses, you can’t see anything on the screen

I got one for my wife and I, I am the most excited to be able to netplay together with it. We occasionally hook up the retroid pocket 3 + with some blue tooth controllers and play games together that way. We often though want the tv for our favorite shows as background noise, so having a couple of little cute as fluff devices to play together sounds great. Hopefully it will make her not spike the controller when she can’t stop dying in metal slug. Like just get better at metal slug betch!!

As I recall when a lot of these roms were being released the numbers in their file names were the release number by the people who were ripping them. So the numbers aren't exactly arbitrary, they're just not in a sensible order for a curated library, made years later especially if you don't have the full set from a specific group.
I just got the black model on Temu for less then $70 including shipping and I'm hoping that its totally worth it. The stock issues seem to have been fixed almost entirely, but I'm not sure if I just got lucky. (This is not a promotion for either companies mentioned, just my own experience)
Solid review! I own a Miyoo mini and RG35xx. Both are solid enough for me to pass on this device. I don’t get what Wi-Fi will even be used for. Also, out of curiosity I looked for availability on a Miyoo mini + on the official store. The price was at $132……. WTF! They some expensive Wi-Fi! The RG35xx has faster shipping time and at that price buy two and imagine your playing together!

I also camped on the launch of this device but didn't make it. I refused to buy in Keep Retro though after hearing some reviews so I just went and bought an RG35XX from another site instead because it's readily available. It has better build quality, plus it doesn't have a battery cover to worry about losing and it has twice the RAM that the Miyoo Mini has

Bought a miyoo mini + and I'm excited, brand new to handheld emulators, goit it to get out of my house and still play games when I'm bored, also I love emulator's, all these consoles are older than me and I wish I was born early enought to play them in prime, but I'll take what I can get
You forgot to mention one of the main reasons to have wifi on the device is for online play and retro achievements. Sure some people sont care for it but its a cool little bonus for going back and clearing old games seeing your score build up and having something to work towards. If it wasnt for the wifi would be a no brainer for the anbernic
So I love my Miyoo Mini and I have since I got it last May.
Had I not gotten it then, I probably would have picked something completely different. Stock issues are the reason it's bad now.
So glad I got my miyoo mini v2 before it doubled in price and went out of stock.

Man, I’d really love to pick one up but I don’t know if I have the patience to wait for them to come back in stock, and that anbernic dpad issue is a deal breaker for me. Luckily It seems like another one of these mini emulation devices is always right around the corner so I doubt I’ll have to wait long for an alternative
I have an Anbernic and the dpad issue is not as bad as you may think. It IS there, but I've never had it cause an issue in any game that I have played on the device. And fixing the issue does not look to be difficult to do at all with a bit of black electrical tape. Just need to have the right security bit to get the device open.
There is an easy fix for the dpad, just add tape. It's on YT
Anbernic has millions of alternatives, honestly dont know why people dont just recommend the rg351
Honestly you can just get an Anbernic 351P if you have a bit more budget. It has the screen size of a GBA, has a more powerful chip and bigger RAM so you don't need to tweak any settings until PS1.
It also has a few mature OS to choose from. It can also play some PC ports because of DOS and Scumvvv emulator. The dual joysticks are really useful for those especially on FPS games like Quake,Doom,Duke Nukem 3D. It can play Shovel Knight and a bunch of newer games that is not graphic intensive and a lot of point and click games. You can also play some arcade games on it.
The only thing that makes me want to buy the Miyoo Mini Plus and Anbernic 35xx is they are Gameboy looking devices. Other than that it's a downgrade from the Anbernic 351P.
I've been playing GBA Pokemon on my anbernic for about a month and had no issues whatsoever. It's a GREAT device, I'm super happy I got it

I have been completely happy with the Analogue Pocket and aside from missing PS1 games, it is perfect for me. Being able to play carts as well as emulation, with a super easy setup and interface, and slick as Hell aesthetics, it is the best handheld retro IMO. It immediately replaced my Anbernic RG35X, and I play it all day, every day.
"Arbitrary numbers" are actually ROM catalogue numerical references, very useful if you know what they are.

My wife gifted me a Miyoo Mini and an Anbernic 280V for Xmas and I actually prefer the Anbernic because is more comfortable.
Wish there was gba layout device from one of these companies without analog sticks and that looked as nice as the miyoo
Honestly, I was trying to decide between getting a Miyoo Plus, or the RG35XX. But, the fact that the RG35XX doesn't have wifi kinda kills it for me. Wifi's not a MASSIVE issue, but I like RetroAchievements, and I like being able to FTP games over in the off chance that I don't feel like removing the SD card. The D-Pad issue on the Anbernic one also bothers me. I've seen like, three different videos talking about the iffy D-Pad on that one now.
On the other hand. The Miyoo looks great, but I'm mildly concerned it's gonna be too small for me. I have fairly big hands. I'd imagine the extra "chin" on the Anbernic would be more comfortable. I still find the original Game Boy DMG to be comfortable. Though, I can enjoy a GBC too, which is a bit smaller than the DMG. So maybe the Miyoo won't be as bad as I feel like it's gonna be.
I actually already have a Retroid Pocket 2+, but there's two things about it that bother me. One, is simply the D-Pad placement. It's so low (and offset from the face buttons), that my thumb cramps up when trying to use it. It's not as comfortable to play old retro games as it should be. The other issue, is that it's running Android. I kinda like it having Android because I can use Android frontends for my emulation, and I can use Android apps and games. BUT, the whole thing just feels impersonal. Like, I already have that "impersonal" feeling a bit when it comes to emulation, where I don't have a huge concern for my saves, because it feels more like I'm just loading a file than actually booting up a game. But, that's made even worse on the Retroid, where it feels more like I'm emulation on an old low-end Android phone with a controller attachement. I feel like if I use a device like the Miyoo, that's running an OS entirely dedicated to emulation, as opposed to an OS that's for a ton of different things and can also run emulators, would just...feel better.
And, despite having the Retroid, I kinda want a vertical handheld to give me that old Game Boy nostalgia.

I have the 35xx - I love it for GBA on the bus, this I find the dpad issues make most PS1 games unplayable. Probably gonna pick up a RP3+, but I think the mini+ is cute, and I kinda want it despite no meaningful new use case.
You won't even look at your RG35xx after you get a RP3+ or an RG505. If you are like me, you might even stop looking at new devices because it just simply does everything you *actually* want a handheld to do.

I have an original miyoo Mini, which I love...also have a Anbernic RG353V, that's great for playing N64 and Dreamcast games..the scene is just fantastic...my Xbox and switch are slowing dying on my shelf
