      Try when you have extra paper Luke from mail or prescriptions and cut them up for scratch paper (when you're chill) then put the lil stack on the counter. That way paper is ALWAYS available. I make a list almost everyday. I don't do it all but making a list REALLY helps for refocusing. So does lions mane capsules from host defense, like SERIOUSLY 👍

    • @Darrana

      When it's too overwhelming to write a list, I usually speak out all the chaos in my head to an app like Goblin Tools and it helps to sort out the chaos. Or I speak all of this to another person and they help me to write a list.
      Also you can start writing something that is super urgent or right in front of you and go from there

    1. brain dump - write everything on paper
    2. cross out everything that you've written that is not in your control
    3. replace everything that is in your control
    4. circle one of those action that you can control and do that.

    When I re-wrote my list, I phrased each concern as something I am actively addressing which helped a lot. For example, first statement was "I worry I don't spend enough time with friends and family" and the second statement was "I am connecting with my loved ones in small meaningful ways" which is a true statement. It was a good reminder that I'm already working on the things I do have control over. I'm not doing nothing at all. Maybe I want to do more, but this was a good start. Thank you for the walkthrough!

    • @sandyhausrath
      @sandyhausrath 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @DaniqueEmiliaSteinfeld - I don't know whether you'll see this bc you commented a while ago, but JIC it helps someone:
      what I've found useful is recognizing that *all of those things are hanging over my head -- consciously or subconsciously -- whether I've written them down or not*
      so, yes, it's terrifying to see them all there on a page (lol who are we kidding, a couple pages), but they're THERE anyway. and at least now they're all written down where I can see them, and I can start to put them in some kind of order, or even mark some of them off as I get them done.
      it's like being afraid to go to the doctor bc you don't know what's wrong that's causing you to not feel good. it's scary to confront a diagnosis, but once you do, you might be able to start doing something about it ... and eventually start to feel better.
      hope things are going better for you these days!!

    I love all of your videos. You have helped me get my Anxiety and panic attacks under control, and manageable in the daytime, and I am doing fairly well. My question....what to do about night mare panic attacks? Yes that's right, I get panic attacks during my nightmares/ night terrors. I usually don't remember my nightmares but for some reason, probably because of the panic attack I remember last nights. I dreamed that I was walking my dog in the backyard...I live on a lake...and an alligator jumped out and grabbed my dog, I was helpless and had a panic attack. What a crappy way to wake up. Context=recently in the news there was a woman walking her dog near the water and attacked her and her dog, not far from where I live.

    Omg I love you so much right now! THANK YOU! ❤❤❤
    What you described feels like the missing piece of a puzzle.
    I've been journaling for nearly 30 years and find it immensely helpful when dealing with overwhelm. That overwhelm can be from anxiety but more often than not it's just that I have to many ideas and things that need to be done or or I want to have happen. Often times, just the brain dump is what's needed to relieve the pressure of just thinking too much on things that are disparate and need their own time and space. Although hopefully not at the same time as is often the case.
    Besides dealing with emotional overwhelm, I can see myself usng this technique and asking myself what can I do now, tomorrow, next week, etc. It's often a challenge to stay present and I can see this as a wonderful way to focus on the things I can control, today. ❤

  • @MP-gw5kw
    @MP-gw5kw ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This brain dump wasn’t too helpful right now as everything I wrote down IS in my control and reminded me that I have lots to do. 😭 I didn’t cross out one thing. And the things I have to do have competing priority and/or deadlines.
    It’s easier at the moment to procrastinate than to tackle the task but then I know it ends up being more work or stressful. My work life is what’s overwhelming. Thankfully, home life is not as stressful; busy with lots to do but not as stressful and definitely more rewarding. Maybe I just need to switch my jobs. I guess this exercise was helpful as it led me to this conclusion. 😁

    Something I don’t do well with is when taking apart my car’s engine to fix the head gasket I can’t help but get so frustrated at some of the attachments and the nearly impossible things that are necessary to complete the task. I find myself talking out loud and yelling over a dropped tool or nut or lost tool , at times I want to throw things when problems persists. I certainly need a way around this problem solving issue. Thank you for sharing!

    Good video! Writing it is so helpful! Just knowing it's there on paper helps to relax especially at night time and a good night's sleep goes a long way toward tackling things tomorrow if needed.

    I'm here because I'm subscribed to your emails, and the "You have so much to do and your brain just wants to shut down. So what can you do? You could curl up into a ball and procrastinate by watching cat videos" part made me... go look around for hidden cameras :)
    Thanks for these useful resources, Emma!

    I tried the brain dump listing it off. Turns out everything IS really in my hands and everything is up to me. I want to throw up. Or give up. I can't believe I did this to myself.
