Kou Lei played so phenomenally in this match. So glad he got his revenge for the last 2 tournaments, can't say the same for Lily and I'm so sad for her. But man, Jinbao has been the only USATT player to beat Kou Lei, giving him his 2nd and 3rd official losses ever in the US just the past few weeks too.

I share the same feeling for lily. I met her for the first time and she is so absolutely filled with positive energy that I have faith that she will bounce back and overcome her recent losses to Amy.
I'm also glad Kou Lei has some serious competition and I hope MJB learns from this loss here.

Kanak Jha should be at least slight favourite against Kou Lei I imagine have they played yet?

@@LosAngelesTableTennis I'm so sad for Lily, she didn't even come claim her gold doubles medal. Amy's been beating her in the last several tournaments, and Lily was so close... 10-7 :(

Good job Kou Lei. He’s avoiding Ma’s forehand and then placing it back to Ma’s forehand to surprise him later in the game. Ma’s backhand may be his weakness at their level of play.

Why is Jinbao calling Kou Lei's name every time he scores a point? 😙

Usually quiet Kou Lei chooed a lot this time. It shows how badly he wanted to win this match.
Ma, on the other hand, has improved a lot. He even reached quarter final in the recent ITT star tournament in China Lanzhou where most top 20 players including all Chinese elite players played. Ma's strength is his consistency with spiny shots. He doesn't give easy points. Ma is still quite young and likely will claim the top spot for US table tennis.

well, Kou Lei resumed using reversed pendulum serve all the way. I don't see him using forehand serve during the whole match. Ma seemed a little rushed, trying to use forehand to over power Kou Lei but then left a big space at forehand side - he obviously is aware that he doesn't have much chance if he doesn't utilize a lot of his forehand power loop.
