One time, Cartoon Network used to do "Cartoon of the Month" or something. One month, it was Josie and the Pussycats. They sang this really good song and the commercial bumper weirdly included Dexter (from Dexter's Lab) looking with amazement. I only remember the second line from the song, sang by the blonde one.
So maybe, your cup of tea,
      A mystery (unintelligible)
      Only power power power Kitties!
I'm sure nobody has an archive of those bumpers. It might not even be an America thing, as I saw it on Philippine Cable TV.

If my information is correct, JBVO premiered in some capacity on 12/27/1999, with the actual "VO Show #1" premiering on 4/2/2000. The series likely consisted of 28 unique episodes, the last of these premiering on 1/14/2001. During the original run there were some reruns, including a JBVO marathon. There may also have been movies hosted by him on 12/10/2000. Nevertheless, reruns continued through out 2001, with the last airing of the show ever being on 8/19/2001. If interested in discussing this further, it would be better to talk individually!

From what I remember growing up, my local Cartoon Network had Toon FM and Viva Las Bravo over the years. There was also a Fosters’s Home-themed block hosted by Bloo and it was a similar concept like VLB where the host showcases a show that was voted on online, and there was even another similar show after that that was Ben 10-themed and had Grey Matter hosting.

  • @RabbitEarsCh
    @RabbitEarsCh 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Voting online to decide between three cartoons for a 2 hour block? That's interesting - Cartoon Network Latin America had that as a block called "Votatoon" for many, many years, at the VERY least from 1999-2005 (though they had it for 3 hours, not 2). I remember because Votatoon was the last time Corrector Yui was ever aired on Cartoon Network...I personally voted for it and everything!

The no I’m Johnny thing really existed. Cartoon Network was doing a sort of avant garde change and I remember they used a lot of surrealism around this time. The bumps became more adult swim like and weren’t bright, flashy and in your face as much. This is very interesting, and it sparked my memory of yet another Johnny Bravo-themed show called 'Big Bravo Breakfast'. I have an old recording from CN UK in 2004 which has a promo of the show, being described as airing on weekdays from 07:00 - 08:30. It doesn't specify what kind of show it is, but I assume it's similar to JBVO etc. in having Johnny talking in some (original?) segments with some cartoons as well. When I say 'original', I wonder if it was animation created specifically for Big Bravo Breakfast, or if it was reused from JBVO etc. I remember that I watched it as a kid, but I don't specifically recall what the show was like xD.

I remember Polish versions of all of those blocks. Basically in all cases it was just a handful of pre-recorded segments with very dry humour comments about the cartoon that was to be played next. There were also pre-recorded viewer calls - but again - only a handful and had dreadfully unfunny jokes. The whole thing got tired after less than a week. Nothing to be missed - at least if we're talking about Polish dub.

  • @ScatterbrainPete
    @ScatterbrainPete 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Greetings from Poland!
I'm not sure if TOON FM aired in my country, but I am fairly certain that a block resembling JBVO did air in Poland somewhere between 1999 and 2002, but all I can remember from it is that it had a custom screen bug (that being Johnny's head) appearing next to the Cartoon Network one during shows it aired.
I definitely remember Viva Las Bravo more. It aired during summer of 2005 (July 25 - September 2) and 2006 (July 31 - September 3). It was pretty much how you've described it. We could vote online for one of three proposed cartoons and the winner would be shown all day the next weekday. And yes, it only aired on weekdays as weekends were reserved for Toonami KnockOut, which was the same thing but we voted for Toonami shows instead. That was the case for 2005. Can't say if I remember Toonami Knockout airing in 2006 but I know Viva Las Bravo did. As for any Johnny Bravo skits, I don't think there's much to talk about here. Poland and the rest of Central Europe didn't get as much fun stuff as USA, Latin America, Japan or even the UK.
However, there is one more thing that you could probably count as lost media as I doubt anyone bothered to even record it back when it happened. There was an event that in Polish was called "Akcja Animacja" (Action Animation, "action" as in "campaign"). It was basically a nationwide competition held between 2001 and 2006 in Poland, as well as Hungary and Romania. Kids from elementary and middle schools could take part in this and draw their own storyboards which would then be sent to Cartoon Network where they'd choose the best one in the age 6-12 category and the best one in the age 12-16 category, for each country separately, of course. Those two winner animation projects would then be given to CN's own animators to animate and finish them. The finished animation projects would be shown later in the fall of that year in a special CN event program called, you guessed it, Action Animation, which was hosted by Johnny Bravo (except for the 6th and last edition where it was hosted by Dexter, with Dee Dee occasionally dropping in to annoy him). I don't know how long the program was (probably an hour, maybe hour and a half long or so, not sure) but I do know that each edition aired on a Friday at 4 pm CET and was shown again on a Sunday of that same week at 9 am CET (for example, the 1st edition aired on September 28, 2001 and the 2nd one on September 27, 2002 - both dates are Fridays). Also, some of the editions had some extra stuff shown during them, for example:
    - the 3rd edition (which was shown on either October 24, 2003 or November 7, I can't remember), had the premiere of the 50th episode of the Powerpuff Girls (Keen on Keane/Not So Awesome Blossom) and the 66th episode of Dexter's Laboratory (4th season premiere, in other words) (Beau Tie/Remember Me/Over-Labbing)
    - the 4th and 6th editions (November 5, 2004 and November 3, 2006, respectively) showed the very first episodes of the Powerpuff Girls (Meat Fuzzy Lumpkins), Tom & Jerry (Puss Gets the Boot) and Dexter's Laboratory (Changes) - all 3 shown on both editions
    - the 5th edition (November 4, 2005) showed a sneak preview of Camp Lazlo, which consisted of the entire first episode (Parasitic Pal/It's No Picnic) and the first half of the 2nd episode (The Weakest Wink).
There IS a promo for the 2nd edition from 2002: th-cam.com/video/eeblgAMcuRw/w-d-xo.html
Also 2:45 seeing the Polish Cartoon Network website from back then brings back memories.

UPDATE: Someone found a VHS recording of a Polish promo of TOON:FM (which is essentialy the same as the Swedish one) and from the looks of it, the program premiered in Poland on April 8, 2002 and was broadcasted from 7:30 to 9 a.m. either everyday or Monday thru Friday. The promo suggests the program had a hotline which the fans could call and win prizes (and perhaps decide what cartoon to show next but I'm not sure about that one) and Johnny would also sometimes read the "mail" (I doubt it was actual fanmail, it's usually scripted in this type of internationally broadcasted programs) and give a so-called "Toon Tip"
      Here's the recording: th-cam.com/video/NDaSoFMDcV4/w-d-xo.html

I remember seeing the Johnny-Johnny block on Cartoon Network back in 2009 (I was a big Johnny Test fan at the time, so I watched it there, then decided to stay tuned to Bravo, not knowing it was an over 10-year-old cartoon at the time)! It was actually the first time I ever saw Johnny Bravo on television, since I was born in 2002, so I wasn't old enough to see the show when it originally aired on CN. Shortly after seeing Johnny Bravo on that block and it catched my interest, I started watching it on Boomerang, and I've been a fan ever since. I don't remember those bumpers you mentioned in this video, though.

I remember the European Johnny Bravo Talk Show Airing in German or Austrian Television. Its very faint but IIRC he was commenting and making jokes on short clips.
Somehow I am convinced that years later this was aired again with a big "DO NOT PARTICIPATE OLD RECORDING" disclaimer in the evening while some kids Sattelite TV Channel was off air in the later night hours. It looped from approx 21:00-06:00. But that might just be my imagination.
    TL:DR: Look for German Recordings.

About the Johnny/Johnny ads, I'm pretty sure they aired sometime around Christmas of 2009. If I recall correctly, they played "A Johnny Bravo Christmas" and "A Holly Johnny Christmas" around that time. I'm sure it ran before Christmas time, but that's when I remember it playing back in 2009.

I am an European with access to Cartoon Network in the year 2005, and I can assure you that Viva Las Bravo and Johnny/Johnny absolutely did exist, I distinctly remember at least the promos for them. In fact, if it weren't for you mentioning these, I would have completely forgotten about them. The footage that you showed for Viva Las Bravo is also very similar to how I'm remembering it.
Also, as a side note, the Cartoon Network HQ website _was_ that hard to navigate at the time, especifically for Europe. This was before Cartoon Network used separate domains for the countries where it is broadcasted.

I think the reason why Cartoon Network was trying so hard with these Johnny Blocks is because at the time they were airing, I believe the Nicktoon Summer Beach House blocks that ran during the summer were really popular. I think they were maybe trying to catch some of that appeal, Nick always seemed to have more success with afternoon blocks, at least from my perspective. I can't blame them for trying their own hand at it.

Viva los bravo I believe was aired when I was a kid.
I remember going to a summer club “planet action” near me and every time we stopped for lunch they played Cartoon Network.
It was the only time I every got to watch this channel as we never did and still don’t have sky.
They played shows like Ed, edd, and eddy, Johnny bravo and more and I was always in Ore as never got to watch this sort of cartoon at home.
I explicitly remember the 3 headed girl.
If it helps I’m 29 now and this was when I was in ruffly year 5-6 (I’m one of the youngest in my year too)
I don’t know if this would help but I guess I never now.

Quartzer but it does sound about right , I mean I can remember still fitting in one of those plastic out door kids houses, which was indoors upstairs in the lunch hall room that we all sat in to eat. There was 2 TVs on the wall / hanging from the ceiling. And that’s what kids tv was on we only got to watch it for about 1 hr whilst we ate, and different shows where in each time we sat down to eat. Then we went off to do different sports like trampolining/ tennis etc...

Toon FM seems to use a lot of recycled animation from Brak presents the Brak Show Starring Brak (which is also practically lost) but Brak standing on the cliff and the Brakettes, three headed girl, are recycled from that that. I also remember that Godzilla being from something but I’m not sure. Possibly from the pilot.

Also, the Cartoon Network HQ site looks like it just took you to another version of cartoonnetwork(.)co(.)uk. I was actually looking around there the other day to find stuff from Toon FM, and it DOES work in English if you enter that url... But the problem is that once you get to around 2004 everything just goes to this "page not found" error from like 2011 for some reason. Also around 2004, the site switches to this big flash thing which I can't get to work, which might have to do with that. Sorry if you actually have looked around there before, wouldn't be surprised but wanna make sure.
ALSO also, not as important but the three headed character in the Toon FM promos is/are the Brakettes from Brak Presents the Brak Show Starring Brak

    • @stevenray9229

not that helpful, but, the wayback machine isn't perfect as is well known. it probably tried to find the closest error image it could to the one that was shown at the time. if you're not talking about the WB machine, it might be the same principle. 2004 is before people really put care into proofing their websites. "can it tell you to watch the show and play flash games? that's good enough for me"

I definitely remember seeing Viva Las Bravo, back in the day. However, I completely forgot how terrible that Johnny Bravo impersonation was. I know that getting Jeff Bennett to voice new lines for each block would be impossible, but couldn't CN Europe get someone that sounded more like him? I rarely watched CN myself (and I'm probably too young to have experienced Toon:FM anyway), but a quick look at the Dutch Wikipedia page for Cartoon Network tells me that Johnny/Johnny probably didn't air in Europe, since European Cartoon Network ran a different style for its bumpers in Europe in 2009 (it used red arrows rather than blocks with text and the arrows with the "up next: xxx" text were in the bottom left of the screen, according to Wikipedia). that said, just because the footage we have is from American CN doesn't mean that the European equivalent doesn't exist.

is it just me, or is the camera really off in the Johnny Johnny bumper? it’s so snappy and jittery that it makes me wonder if there was stuff between it. At 8:14 when it’s playing really slowly, it kind of looks like there’s movement missing? Even if I’m way off, there’s no denying that it’s really strange.

I was sick for about a week when the Johnny / Johnny block aired and it was only really used as a transition. I didn't pay much attention to the clips but I know they were arguing about which Johnny is the real Johnny and usually still images were just used with the two Johnnys facing each other back to back. I could be wrong though since I was 8 when the block aired so I don't really remember that much about it
