@@lotus_flower2000 12? I can’t really say you’re wrong I haven’t watched in years but it’s hella rare to hear anyone say the seasons in the 2010’s were good
1:39 Thinking on it, he probably could get a job at that swanky Ship in a Bottle restaurant they show every so often. He’s a great chef. Even when it comes to playing the clarinet, we know Spongebob had water-warped his by using it to unclog a toilet. Meanwhile when he uses any other “new” clarinet, we see that he is actually either decent or good at playing. Even in the best day ever he has an entire concert hall giving him a standing ovation over his performance, so clearly he can be a great musician. One who, funnily enough, even set aside a VIP seat for Spongebob. For all his hatred of Spongebob, Squidward still had a special VIP seat set aside for him in the front row, as he was always so supportive of his playing.
I think the reason Spongebob got multiple jobs while Squidward got none was because of their personalities. Squidward is grumpy and lazy while Spongebob is energetic, hard working, and loves his job. Also, being the fry cook at the town's best fast food restaurant sounds better than being a cashier at that restaurant
Yep, especially since Bikini Bottom doesn't seem like a very large place. Everybody basically knows everybody. The patrons see a hardworking, if socially oblivious, sponge making fantastic burgers, they'll be willing to give him a shot since he clearly cares about his work. The lump of a squid who is doing the bare minimum to get by...yeah, not that many people would want to be around him, let alone work with him, or even hire him.
@@sage.81 Yep. There's a reason why a lot of job-search help videos emphasize the interviews. The episode where Squidward was living with Spongebob shows he's very lazy if he feels he can get away with it, and most interviewers are savvy about catching things like that. Also, networking is BIG for art-related jobs. You need to be advertising yourself 24/7 by defualt in that sort of field. Squidward hates interacting with anybody, and sadly is not competent enough to pull it off.
I think after all squidward’s been through I feel he’s accepted his place. He may still hate his job but it’s not like he’s tried something else, it just hasn’t worked out for him. So weather he likes it or not the job he has is all he’s got.
I believe that literally nobody else will hire Squidward other than Mr. Krabs because almost everyone in Bikini Bottom hates him. Pretty much proven in Can You Spare me a Dime.
Well it’s gonna be worse in recent years. I don’t want to get too political but now since Trump is president (in the United States). He promised to increase the economy but from my research and knowledge he never did. Especially soon he is gonna get rid of the main money making methods. Since a lot of people aren’t American.
The reason he only works at the krusty crab is because hes a horrible employee. We tend to forget this because of spongebob and mr krabs, but he's always sleeping on the job and being unfriendly to customers. Normally, he could get a job anyway, but he doesnt hide this either
He doesn't get payed enough. Might as well let him sleep because the bikini bottomers are terrible people themselves. Spongebob is a terrible neighbor, Mr. Krabs is a cheapskate. And he has gotten a job before but Mr. Krabs begged for him back because he has no one else.
Honestly, Squidward resonates with a lot of people because he's pretty much forced to work a job he hates since the things he loves to do aren't taking off and finding a job outside of his current one is either next to impossible or requires some kind of years of experience in something. I got fired from McDonald's for missing a single day that I wasn't scheduled for and have been struggling to find a new job ever since and it's been... 9 years.
I WAS SQUIDWARD FOR THE PAST 15 MONTHS -am german, so punctuality is sacred -5 before is late -15 minutes before is "on time" -yet due to personal issues, i often was consistently 5-15 minute late -yet they kept me around since they were 1.) understaffed and 2.) needed a punching bag and general scapegoat. :D it was hell, and i curse the families of the people involved
Why am I watching a 21 minute video essay on a mundane question answerable by literally anyone who works. He works cause he has to. He works THERE because it's close to him and although he has a boating license, he can't afford a boatmobile.
I think the first example can be explained by where he is when Patrick runs out. Squidward had no real intention of quitting. He knew Patrick wouldn't be able to stick around long and just did not want to be there for that period of chaos. He could have gone home to read his paper (or make art, I dont know why you say he has nothing better to do when we know he has a bunch of hobbies he likes..) but he stayed just outside the building. He was litterally just leaned agaisnt the sign post and reading the paper to wait for the Patrick nonesense to run its coarse.
Squidward was promised his own krusty krab franchise to which he never gets. From both krusty using it as a lure to keep an overqualified employee around and squidwards self sabotage.
Glad you brought up that last point at the end, because the frustrating and depressing thing is, this kind of situation isn't remotely limited to the world of cartoons . . .
Have you been to America? It is either a crappy job that barely pays the bills, or homelessness. You can't simply just get a better job. I should know because I was forced to leave my job and have struggled finding a new one.
" It is either a crappy job that barely pays the bills, or homelessness." Too narrow. Start a business, have side hustles, etc. Get on gov't assistance.
Lets be real. Squidward has jorrible customer serivce, is lazy, rude, and always late. Mr. Krabs is actually being nice by keeping him. Hed never be able to work anywhere else
Well at least he is doing his job Stable and almost always without mistakes, i mean we all know krabs, he would sell squid and sponge for 2 Cents right away
@newyorkfan16 well also remember that the movie was supposed to be the end of the series. So squidward being chosen as manager wouldve been the end of his story. He was finally able to gain recognition
He would if he were a transgender woman or an outright woman. We saw THIS with Patrick being Patricia for a while. Which proves the demonstration of female privilege in society.
One of the few times squidward actually quits, he gets a job at another restaurant, also several of the times squidward quits, the krusty krab changes in significant ways, in some cases not being a restaurant anymore, it's possible that despite what he says he likes working at restaurants, maybe he's even hoping for a promotion of some kind
One thing I think you missed is Squilliam is many episodes Squilliam went out of his way to make Squidward life worse so I believe it possible the Squilliam pays the other business in bikini bottom not to hire Squisward so he be stuck at a job he hates
I think because squid ward is inherently lazy, shown in the episode where he mooched off SpongeBob. And the Krusty krab, while paying the bare minimum, allows squid ward to get away with many things without the consequence of losing his job
“Why would you work a job you hate” Me: Simple, i need money and no there are no other jobs in market and i got this job after 2 years of searching so yea
You know what is more important than money , heath My older brother had a job , and he got paid 18K a month, but he quit it because it was a mess He didn't eat or sleep , and he was depressed all the time So, clinging into the same job for 20 years without a raise or promotion or even finding a better or alternative career to make money makes you a bigger loser than already are Sure, everyone is struggling with economic issues, and finding jobs isn't easy, but just to hang into a job you hate for two decades just because you are broke or lazy is so sad
@Spot; you're forgetting Squidward's arch rival: Squillium; he was probably the real reason why Squidward can't succeed with people, because it would not be far-fetched to think that he spreads negative rumors about Squidward all across Bikini-bottom and also the fact that Squidward was tricked into unintentionally impersonate him in one episode; Yes, it might be coincidence more than anything but, this would add contribution to the Krusty ring around the rosy game that had become Squidward's life in present time; he shows up in every other episode where the personal issues with Squidward is involved.
I love your Spongebob videos but one point of criticism is you're repeating of certain words a lot of times. Otherwise, the quality of your content is amazing and id love to see more of what you're channel has in store for the future
I think Squidward secretly loved working at the Krusty Krab the same way he secretly fell in love with the Krabby Pattie. Spongebob just made it hard for him to admit it. And Mr. Krabs charging Spongebob and Patrick to work there is wild 😂🤣😂🤣 Very insightful, Great video 👍👍
8:32 in many episodes squidward is shown being trash at cooking patties. while i guess you can say he can cook in one or two episodes but in like over eight episodes squidward is so bad enough where he literally puts shoes in the pattys. still love the theory tho
Squidward being payed next to nothing doesn't add up because of his cost of living. We know Squidward owns his house, as we see he has the deed in skill crane. Even if he payed off his mortgage and doesn't pay taxes his house does still has full utility services. So we can deduce that Squidward is middle class if not upper middle class. So my theory is that while Squidward is being payed a good wage, He's still a good compromise of cost and security. For even if Squidward is getting a six figure salary this is still a low overhead for the Krusty Krab, as he's only 1 of 2 employees. Combine this with Krabs having the most successful restaurant in the known aquatic world and we're looking and Krabs being a multimillionaire. Squidward is also good at deductive reasoning, unlike most of bikini bottom residents who are portrayed as airheads. For he's the first person to discover plankton scheme in the first movie. This would be invaluable to Mr Krabs for when his restaurant is being assaulted by plankton and other thieves. Where Spongebob is the physical line of defense, Squidward is the logical line. Picking up on deception and underhanded tactics. This is likely why he was chosen as the manager for the Krusty Krab 2, for he's the only person Krab trusts with keeping his money secure. And since everyone hates Squidward Mr Krabs doesn't have to pay him anymore than he has to. For while Squidward is payed around 70-120k annually, anyone else as smart or smarter than hims would ask for about 200k+ (remember krabs only has 2 employees and has made hundred of thousands in a single day) so Squidward, despite hating his occupation, is currently working a job is designed for someone like him.
He probably gets some form of assistance, either that or he gets insane hours and makes as much as someone working a regular job while Basically living at work.
Bro nobody want a cashier of 17 years only another restaurant that’s gonna make you a cashier. Squidward was right if you have dreams to qualify for dreams, you can’t just have 17 years worth of being a cashier
I like this theory and two things that might actually help it There’s several episodes. I don’t remember which ones in which Mr. Krabs mentions Squidward contract Another thing is that SpongeBob might have escaped the whole forever thing in squid on strike because as far as we know from Pretty patty he may still own the Krusty Krab, thus giving SpongeBob leniency anytime he destroys the Krusty Krab. Yes Krabs probably still owns the rights to the franchise and all but SpongeBob at the very least owns the building as far as we know.
I think Mr. Krabs was just taking the opportunity to have a break from SpongeBob for a day so then Squidward and Mr. Krabs can feel a little less stressed. They are also the same people that left the bikini bottom for weeks to stay away from SpongeBob. Plus the rest of the Bikini Bottom residents joined.
I think it's seriously just plot not to be a party pooper but as an unfortunate reason! Or else, I'll call this the alternate timeline Squidward ACTUALLY escapes his job for peep sake. Hear me out! The Chum Fricasse episode clearly showed Squidward's ability to run the Chum Bucket to the point of outperforming the Krusty Krab and nearly make it nearly run out of business. But the episodic plot forced to use Squidward's arrogance as his downfall and makes things "go back to normal". He didnt cook his food for 24 hours for "his many fans" waiting in line, despite Plankton warning him, so Plankton just followed his orders. Basically served uncooked food (which to be fair was gross), and the unloyal customers went over the top "herd mentality social justice mode" (quite common in Spongebob episodes) to destroy the whole business and cancelling the whole Chum Bucket entirely for one mistake. How did they find out? It wasn't even like the health inspector came by and shut down the restaurant after realizing the fact...it was his grandma that called out Squidward IN PUBLIC. You could EASILY argue his grandmother could at least have the decency to tell Squidward in privacy...or else she'll tell everybody in public. If he ignored multiple warnings, I would understand Squidward's arrogance being his downfall here but we have to accept this bogus plot. It was poorly executed and it was crazy because both "losers" Plankton & Squidward were finally winners with no false trick, all skill (Plankton's resources and Squidward's recipe). So this is seriously the most optimal and boss way to leave his terrible job! And for the customers, they could have just been like "Don't make this mistake again! We like your food well cooked!" I'm saying this in particular because there are a few occasions where Spongebob himself sabotaged the Krusty Krab but "things went back to normal" thanks to the nature of these cartoons. One time was when Spongebob was acting "normal", and started printing krabby patties since it was more efficient and "normal". The customers realized it when trying out the food, then left entirely. Mr. Krabs forced Spongebob to leave until he becomes himself again but at this point, you can seriously argue EVERY customers could have left the Krusty Krab for good just like the Chum Fricasse. This one is a bonus: When Spongebob, introduced the "color pretty patties", Spongebob made his own business after being mocked, then business was booming, however it eventually caused health problems and customer outrage AFTER Mr. Krabs took over the pretty patties business (Spongebob became the owner of the Krusty Krab in return, employment pay problems are solved...yeah)! Things went "back to normal" because...it's an episodic cartoon. So right there, we have an alternate universe of Spongebob being an owner, no matter how naive, he easily could have Squidward and himself get paid really good salaries because Squidward would have ensure his pockets knowing about Krabs' precarious situation and Spongebob would get extra money if Mr. Krabs was attempting to re-buy his business back. I'm missing more examples but you get the idea of the first one using the same strict judgment of the Chum Fricasse episode to any other failed business plans of the Krusty Krab that have similar implications. And the 2nd idea is showing us that alternate timelines exist in Spongebob! Even if you obviously knew, as much as I hate to say "plot" because we all know it's "plot" but this is so egregious, this has to be pointed out! Squidward should have been escaping his job at the very point of the Chum Fricasse episode in that alternate universe of Spongebob. Some of these Spongebob theories should seriously consider alternate timelines due to the nature of episodic cartoons.
He’s not qualified for what he wants so he’s forced to settle and he’s the only one in Bikini Bottom that’s emotionally numb enough to most of the time put up with Mr Krabs’ mistreatment of him wether he likes it or not.
Not to mention though he xoukd absolutely benefit from lessons to get better at his true passions like art and music, he’s too narcissistic to accept that so he’s never going to be able to work on his career until he works on himself first which is easier said than done.
Technically The SpongeBob movie takes place at the end of the ENTIRE SpongeBob series As in It takes place when the Series comes to the end Steven hillenberg even has gone on record to say that it is the finale of the series
For me my first job was almost impossible to quit, it took me 3 years to finally leave. I hated going there and I wouldn't have any problems to survive 2 years on my own, but I just couldn't. The fear of something new, the fact that I didn't want to think about getting a new job when I came home, or even write the resignation was just too much. I think squidward represents this state of mind, and I'm sure that there are many more people that have the same problem as him.
Interesting topic for a video....but you're really forcing us viewers to fill in a lot of blanks for you in the first 5 minutes of the video... for one: Squidward didn't ACTUALLY quit on the moments where he "came right back", he kind of knew the situation was temporary and only quit for the day. Hence him waiting outside and walking back in when the issue was finally gone. 2. He doesn't really "Hate" his job. He just prefers to do something bigger and better, but a job is income and this is kind of the best he can do. He admits several times he loves his job and only really quits when he feels he has a better opportunity (and is seriously convinced) or when something (Spongebob usually) annoys him so much he feels being homeless is better than putting up with the issue, but again, once the issue is gone, he goes right back. He actually thought Spongebob wouldn't be qualified when he was first hired and was pretty buddy buddy with Mr Krabs. 3. The "Work forever" thing... Mr Krabs said "Until you make up the cost to fix my restaurant, you will work for me forever!" That's not him hiring him for good, that's him suing them for destroying his restaurant. Once it's fixed (which it usually is by next episode) the "debt" was repaid and now they're just regular employees again. It's not unheard of for the terms of a lawsuit to result in someone who destoryed someone else's home or livelihood to have to "work off the damages" and the wages they would make are garnished out of thier paychecks by the courts to pay for the damages. Not to be taken literally. I was going to say something about the desires, but you mention that unlike Spongebob who not only is a LOT more popular and charismatic (two important traits to getting a job), but also will settle for a lot less, Squidward has high hopes and dreams and likely is aiming really high, like jumping from cashier at a restaurant to the head waiter at a prestigeous gala. He's not applying to places like "mascot at a children's fair" and likely not looking for a position that is the same as where he is like cashier at a grocery store. Plus he knows Mr Krabs and is a friend of his, so it's likely Krabs pays him decently enough and treats him well enough that he knows he can always get work there. Again, interesting topic for a video..... but... try to focus more on evidence and less on repeating the points you already made over and over, especially if the points are incorrect or unsubstantiated (again the "Work forever" thing was pretty agregiously false.... to literally assume he said that while ignoring the "In order to make up for all this damage to my store" part...meaning it's a debt, not a paycheck. and again, not every time he "quit" was him resigning, it was just him leaving for the day until the annoyance was dealt with. Only a few times did he actually resign and in those, he genuinely thought he had a better job lined up.) and you'll have some fine videos. Just a friendly tip.
I also love the scenes where Squidward is still loyal to SpongeBob even though he’s an annoying to deal with at times. I’m sure we all have co workers like that lol.

This is half true. He used to be good, but spongebod ruined his hearing so he always plays slightly out of tune

Laws are different in Bikini Bottom, maybe felonies don’t exist.
@ Exactly. I think Squidward assumed his experience would be enough to get him a job, ignoring the fact that personality is a big factor
@@sage.81 Yep. There's a reason why a lot of job-search help videos emphasize the interviews. The episode where Squidward was living with Spongebob shows he's very lazy if he feels he can get away with it, and most interviewers are savvy about catching things like that.

At first I didn’t like squidward, but then when you grow up you find Squidward as the most relatable character.
I think everyone works a job they hate at some point and sometimes things outside our control prevent us from leaving them
I think the first example can be explained by where he is when Patrick runs out.
Glad you brought up that last point at the end, because the frustrating and depressing thing is, this kind of situation isn't remotely limited to the world of cartoons . . .

Well at least he is doing his job Stable and almost always without mistakes, i mean we all know krabs, he would sell squid and sponge for 2 Cents right away
Is that why he gave him the promotion of the manager position of the Krusty Krab 2 initially besides Spongebob being immature?

In recent episodes he says that "he works there ironically."

One thing I think you missed is Squilliam is many episodes Squilliam went out of his way to make Squidward life worse so I believe it possible the Squilliam pays the other business in bikini bottom not to hire Squisward so he be stuck at a job he hates
He can't because his name is Squidward not Quitward
"Why would you work at a job you hate?" Bills gotta get paid

10:06 i mean even mr crab doesn't remember the formula.
If Squidward would Meet Grim from Billy And Mandy they would relate to each other
Take a shot every time he says squidward quits his job
@@docsavage4921 or their very little taxes or were over thinking this

“Why would you work a job that you hate?”
Everybody does what they hate for money, then use the money to do the things they love.
Rip the bong everytime he says job, squidward, SpongeBob, work, mr krabs
I like this theory and two things that might actually help it
There’s several episodes. I don’t remember which ones in which Mr. Krabs mentions Squidward contract
Another thing is that SpongeBob might have escaped the whole forever thing in squid on strike because as far as we know from Pretty patty he may still own the Krusty Krab, thus giving SpongeBob leniency anytime he destroys the Krusty Krab. Yes Krabs probably still owns the rights to the franchise and all but SpongeBob at the very least owns the building as far as we know.
We are talking about Spongebob... Your background music makes me feel like it's a mystery crime thriller!
So Squidward is Bikini Bottom's Vincent Van Gogh.
Technically

1 minute in.
Had already 9 shots.
Not sure I will survive.
Because Squidward is a Self-Absorbed Narcissist, who is just self-aware enough to know no other boss will put up with his BS and hates that fact.
2:53 Squid will quit his job again in an upcoming episode "Upward".
Somehow, I guessed the events of "Sweet & Sour Squid" & "Krusty Koncessionaires" & didn't even know you added them to the vid!! XD
This just tells you just how evil Mr. Krabs really is to his employees. Then again, he’s been greedy since the very beginning. Interesting video.
The things we hate sometimes is the thing that's helping you.
I'm all grown up now and I really understand how Squidward feels when he has to work in desperation. I can't believe I hated him when I was a kid.
